Open manualFrequently Answers and Questions
How do I adjust the gate to control the volume of material being spread?
To adjust the gate, locate the gate handle. Moving the handle down will increase the volume of material being spread, while moving the handle up will decrease the volume. Tighten the wing nut when you have achieved the desired volume.
What type of fuel should I use in my DownEaster Salt Spreader?
Use clean, fresh, lead-free automotive gasoline with a minimum of 77 octane purchased from a reputable supplier. The use of gasoline containing alcohol is not recommended. Do not mix oil with gasoline. The Briggs & Stratton Operator/Owner Manual included with your spreader provides additional details.
What type of oil should I use in the gearbox?
Use gear lube EP 80-90 weight oil. Fill the unit to the level plug. Check the lubricant level before the unit is put into service and periodically thereafter. Change the lubricant after the first 100 hours of use, or 30 days of operation. Thereafter, normal change periods of 1000 hours or 12 months should be observed. It is recommended that the lubricant be changed at the end of each season of use to remove moisture and corrosive contaminants.
How do I store my DownEaster Salt Spreader when I'm not using it?
Repair or replace all worn or damaged parts. Lubricate all grease fittings and chains. Wash the spreader to remove all residue and salt. Clean the engine area. Apply primer and paint to areas where finish has been chipped or abraded. Remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry, and safe location. Refer to the Briggs & Stratton Owner's Manual for storage requirements of the engine. Store the spreader in a dry, protected place, off the ground. If storing outdoors, cover the spreader with a waterproof tarp.
