Server-Based Video Motion Detection for ACC and MPEG-4
The VideoEdge Network Video Recorder server software provides a unified server-based Video
Motion Detection engine that supports ACC, MPEG-4 and M-JPEG video codecs. For some legacy M-JPEG devices, there is support for a custom motion detection configuration page that utilizes the device’s motion detection API:
• JVC
(VN-A1U, VN-C10U, VN-C11U, VN-C205U, VN-C625U)
• JVC
(VN-C655U) models)
• Panasonic
• Sony
(SNC-CS3N, SNC-RZ25n, SNC-RZ30n, SNT-V501)
• Vivotek
(IP2111, IP2112, VS2101, VS2402)
Software Registration for Licensing
The VideoEdge Network Video Recorder software products will need to be registered in order to generate a valid software license. The VideoEdge Software online registration form is available on the American Dynamics web site
( http://www.americandynamics.net/VideoEdgeRegistrationForm/VideoEdgeRegistrationForm.aspx
).
Once the form is completed correctly and the required information is provided, the appropriate software license file(s) will be generated and emailed back within one normal business day.
• VideoEdge NVR Server Software will be installed with a 15-Day Temporary License which will support 16-cameras and majority of the features.
• VideoEdge NVR Management Suite will be installed with a 5-Day Temporary License.
Note
All applications will prompt the user with instructions on how to register your product along with the number of days remaining. Once the temporary license period has expired, the application will no longer operate and will require the permanent license to function normally.
To receive your purchased software license, the online registration form should be correctly completed for each of your unique software serial numbers (located on the jewelcase label).

Known Limitations and Issues
VideoEdge NVR Server Software
The table below highlights known limitations or issues associated with the latest release version.
Description
The current version of VideoEdge NVR does not yet support the Dell PERC/6
RAID controller.
The current version of VideoEdge NVR does not yet support the Intel ICH9 (or higher) storage chipset.
The current version of VideoEdge NVR does not yet support iSCSI storage.
Suggested Work-Around
When selecting a Dell system, please use the PERC/5 (or earlier) RAID controller. The VideoEdge NVR Bundled
Servers all come with the PERC/5 as standard.
When selecting a system with Intel chipset, please make sure that it uses an ICH8 (or earlier) chipset.
Unable to get the optimum recording performance on my VideoEdge NVR.
Unable to configure storage for additional cameras after a successful
VideoEdge NVR camera license update.
Automatic switching to backup storage depends on the response times of the attached storage device.
To ensure backwards compatibility with legacy systems in the field, the NVR will maintain record of up 2614 alerts per day.
Support for Snapshots is only available for M-JPEG (search, email attachment, etc.).
Support for Active Content Compression
(ACC) video codec is designed for use on Windows XP only.
Use directly attached SCSI RAID and/or Fibre RAID for extended storage.
When setting up the storage, the volume size being presented to the NVR must be 2TB or smaller, with recommended optimum performance achieved with 1TB.
Also, if there are many cameras on the NVR, it is recommended that multiple storage sections be used to achieve parallel recording performance across different volumes or physical disks.
After successfully updating the NVR camera license, the storage section reconfiguration is required. Please go to the
SYSTEM-STORAGE CONFIG page to SET the number of
Storage Sections (1 to 8) to optimize the use of available storage volumes for each camera group. All camera slots will be accessible after the reboot.
When the NVR is configured for Level 1 or 2 Backup, it will generally switch over immediately or within a few minutes after recognizing any failures on the Primary Storage.
However, some devices may not respond accordingly, which requires a reboot to invoke the switchover to Backup Storage.
To support a larger number of alerts, it is recommended that you use the Cx Alert Console Software that allows the user to set the total number of alerts to maintain before rolling over or exporting. In addition, the Cx Site Manager Software uses a SQL database to store all the alert metadata from all its NVRs centrally.
To view frames for ACC and MPEG-4, please use the STEP playback mode in Vx Client, Vx Player or Cx Alert Console application.
On Windows XP platform, please use Internet Explorer
6.x/7.x, or any of the VideoEdge Management Software (Vx
Client, Vx Player, VMx Agent, Cx Alert Console) to view Live and Recorded ACC video.
Under some rare circumstances, when configuring the VideoEdge 4-Channel
ACC Encoder, it may occupy more than
4 slots on the NVR.
If this occurs, delete the excess camera slot that is being occupied by the duplicated port.
When adding supported cameras and encoders, the NVR will use either the default “admin” or “root” user account.
If these default user accounts do not exist, they will need to be generated.
Newer firmware versions of Arecont Vision now support login, so create a Password Group for them.

Network Video Management System Release Notes
After adding a supported ACC or MPEG-
4 device, live video cannot be viewed with the browser.
When setting up server-based video motion detection for ACC or MPEG-4, no live video is displayed in the motion detection grid.
When setting resolution and frame rates for ACC, the NVR will use the same settings for both viewing and recording.
When viewing ACC devices from the
NVR browser, there is a slight latency or delay in live video.
Even with the pre-requisite plug-ins (ACC: Sensormatic
NvrVideo ActiveX controls 1.0.390.201+, or MPEG-4: Apple
QuickTime 7.2-7.5) and appropriate browsers being used, you must make sure that ports 5554 to 5681 are open on the network firewall for ACC and MPEG-4.
The motion detection recording mode must first be enabled before live video for ACC or MPEG-4 video will be displayed on the motion detection page for setup.
It is recommended that the desired frame rate for ACC should be set under general settings which will be the same settings used for recording.
The browser is generally slower than the client software application, so it is recommended to use the Vx Client software for improved performance; or improve network performance, or reduce the number of concurrent connections.
Highlight the target area you wish to digitally zoom into when using ACC. You can repeat this as many times as needed.
ACC supports a one-time drag-to-center digital zoom for live video from fixed or
PTZ cameras.
When setting up an ACC optical PTZ tour, the live video may display a black solid image when executing the Return
Home Preset command.
When viewing MPEG-4 devices from the
NVR browser, there is a slight latency or delay in live video.
When setting resolution and frame rates for MPEG-4, the NVR will use the same settings for both viewing and recording.
Changing resolution and frame rates on alert is not supported for MPEG-4.
MPEG-4 video used the QuickTime plugin, so there will be a couple of seconds latency on video and sometimes the “Q” logo is displayed when using the browser interface.
From within any supported browser, if the MPEG-4 video pane is clicked, it will automatically spawn a new QuickTime window and display live video from that device.
When using Firefox, MPEG-4 video will not play back from the browser.
After reconfiguring a camera from
MPEG-4 to M-JPEG codec, video will not play back quickly from the browser.
When viewing M-JPEG devices from the
NVR browser, there is a slight latency or delay in live video.
When setting up presets, be sure to configure the Preset 1, which is the “home” position.
The browser is generally slower than the client software application and requires QuickTime plug-in to load, so it is recommended to use the Vx Client software for improved performance as QuickTime is not required.
It is recommended that the desired frame rate for MPEG-4 should be set under general settings which will be the same settings used for recording.
It is recommended that the desired resolution and frame rate should be set under general settings which will be the same settings used on alert for MPEG-4.
When the static QuickTime logo appears on the browser interface, it is recommended that the page is refreshed to reestabilish the live connection to the MPEG-4 video.
Due to the behavior of QuickTime, there is no work around for this behavior; it is recommended that the client application be used to execute Click-to-Center or Drag-to-
Center for optical PTZ MPEG-4 devices.
Use Internet Explorer or Safari browsers or the client software to play back MPEG-4 video.
It is recommended that you either wait a short period of time to play back from the browser after switching codecs, or use the Vx Client application for play back.
The browser is generally slower than the client software application and requires JAVA plug-in to load, so it is recommended to use the Vx Client software for improved performance as JAVA is not required.

VideoEdge Management Suite Software
The table below highlights known limitations or issues associated with the latest release versions.
Description
VideoEdge Management Suite applications are designed to run on
Windows XP, therefore they are not compatible with Vista.
Any of the VideoEdge Management
Suite applications are unable to discover any local and/or remote VideoEdge
NVRs which are online and accessible.
ACC supports a one-time drag-to-center digital zoom for live video from fixed or
PTZ cameras.
When viewing video, the screen may flicker causing an undesirable operation.
When playing back video at 3x or 4x speeds, the buffering message may be displayed causing some stop and go behavior.
Playback speed may be slower than normal for ACC when PAUSE and then
PLAY is pressed.
Unable to play back audio with any of the client applications.
Suggested Work Around
If you require support for a different platform, use the Thin
Client (web browser) with the appropriate plug-in installed for
ACC, MPEG-4 and M-JPEG to manage and view video. See chart below regarding tested browsers, plug-in and codec support.
Depending on the local network configuration, ports may be blocked, so please try to change the communication settings for discovery and/or communication to encrypted mode to overcome this network issue.
Highlight only the target area requiring digital zoom. Repeat as many times as needed.
Reduce the hardware acceleration setting under the Display
Properties > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot section for the video card.
Reduce the playback speed or improve the connectivity speed between the client and servers.
Press STOP and then press PLAY for ACC to play back in normal speed.
Since the audio (AAC) decoder is currently not incorproated into the client applications, the browser is used for live and playback of MPEG-4 Audio/Video streams from VideoEdge
NVR supported devices.
