Reporting

Service

CARS™ is a integrated

Road Survey system, with internal GPS, that will automatically record and determine recommended safe curve speed along with the curve radius and super elevation. This system will allow a driver to continuously survey miles of roads over hours of driving in a day without stopping. Road telemetry is recorded to the tablet as a permanent record for later analysis.

One pass each direction, with traffic at any speed - get the job done safer, faster and

FHWA MUTCD compliant.

Accurate, Safe and Efficient

Based on the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) guidelines on how to determine safe curve speed, our new system allows the operator to simply drive as many miles of road in a day as needed, even stop & go rush hour traffic! Review and analyze individual curve data after a road has been surveyed, or anytime on any computer. No need for constant speeds or manual data input, making the job safer, faster, and under budget. Automatic calculation of the Safe Curve Advisory Speed to meet MUTCD requirements.

Liquid Capacitive Inclinometer

Sensor with Full 0° to 360° measurement range.

Description

The NG360 is a liquid capacitive based inclinometer used for measuring the tilt angle of any object with respect to gravity within a 0 to 360° range. This inclinometer features an integrated 16-bit single chip microprocessor, which provides for linearity and temperature compensation. The basic sensor consists of four separate sensing elements whose outputs are combined to provide a highly accurate linear output over a complete 360° tilt range. An inclusive EEPROM stores the calibration data and dynamic control functions. The embedded software virtually eliminates total errors by compensating temperature drifts and sets the sensor dynamics for specific customer applications. It provides a very accurate

360° angle output with a RS485 interface. When used along with the SC485B (RS232/RS485) converter the user has the possibility of connecting up to 78 units on the same communication line.

Two computer programs are included along with the

NG360, “Get Angle” and “NG360 Setup”, for viewing the measured angle real time. These programs run on Intel compatible PC’s under MS Windows 95/98. Although the

NG360 can be operated on any half duplex RS485 interface, we recommend the Rieker Electronics interface converter SC485B for problem free operation.

INSTALLATION AND MOU N

STEP HARDWARE PREPARATION

The NG360 inclinometer will need to be mounted on a vertical mounting plane. The SC485B (RS232/RS485) adapter can be mounted on either a horizontal or vertical mounting plane.

To mount the NG360, prepare a vertical surface with two tapped holes 2.283” apart for the supplied M4 mounting screws. Refer to Figure 1 for the NG360 outline dimensions.

To mount the SC485B adapter, prepare the mounting surface with two tapped holes, tap for either M4 or #8-32 screws. (Screws are not supplied.) Refer to Figure 2 for mounting hole locations. Note all dimensions are in millimeters.

Mount the NG360 to the mounting surface using the supplied mounting ring and M4 mounting screws. Ensure the unit is oriented so that the writing on the label appears horizontal and upright when looking at it straight on. This is the approximate zero position. To zero the unit, loosen the two mounting screws and rotate the sensor within its ring until the output reads zero. Tighten screws when satisfied.

Remove the 4 screws from the SC485B adapter lid to lift the cover.

Route the NG360 cable through the SC485B adapter port and connect the wires as shown in Figure 3. Refer to

Figure 4 for the NG360 and RS485 Bus diagram.

Mount the SC485B adapter with two M4 or #8-32 screws. Replace cover.

Connect the 12VDC adapter plug to the SC485B adapter and the other end to 110VAC wall receptacle.

Connect a 9-pin D-Sub male connector and cable to the PC com port.

STEP SOFTWARE PREPARATION

To display the measurement results and configure the sensor the following programs are used. These programs require a PC running Windows 95/98 or Windows XP. Although the NG360 will operate from any half-duplex RS485 port, we recommend using the SEIKA interface converter SC485B. NG360 programs should be copied to the hard drive before running them!

Load the enclosed software NG360Setup.exe and GetAngle.exe onto a PC.

NG360Setup.exe: This program can be used to change several parameters of the NG360. These parameters can be read, modified and then saved permanently in the NG360 EEPROM. This does not affect any calibration values.

Run the executable file, NG360Setup.exe to setup system parameters. Parameters that can be reconfigured are data filtering with regards to filter type (Bessel, Period, Butterworth, or Tschebychev), filter order (either no filter, first, or second order), and filter frequency (0.1Hz, 0.5Hz, and 1Hz). The sensor address can also be set and changed if more than one sensor is connected. Refer to Figure 3 for connecting multiple sensors. PC COM port assignment is also accomplished with this program.

The following screen should appear when NG360Setup.exe is executed. The PC COM port shows in the bottom left hand corner and the current sensor address in the bottom right hand corner. If only one sensor is connected, the default address of

177 (hB1) #00 will enable the software to output sensor angles. If multiple units are connected, address 177 (hB1) cannot be used!!! The reason being that all sensors are programmed to respond to the base address of

177 (hB1), in the event of multiple units, a bus conflict would result.

Each individual sensor on the bus will need to have a unique address.

Once a sensor address is selected, the corresponding sensor can be probed for its current parameter settings. Click on “read variables”. This will read the current filter settings and sensor address and display them in the appropriate fields. The variables can be modified by selecting on the drop down menus and then permanently written to the

EEPROM memory by clicking on “write variables”. The variable V064 “delay for serial port” determines the time delay between the individual data bytes transmitted by the sensor. This value can be increased for slower PC interfaces for safer data communication. Default value is 500.

GetAngle.exe: This program displays the angle of one or more NG360, which are connected through a RS232/RS485-

Converter (i.e. p/n SC485B) to the PC. The serial port COM, the sensor address and the display speed (averaging of several measurements) can be adjusted. Additionaly, measurements can be saved to a logfile in regular time-intervals, for further processing i.e. with MS Excel.

Now run the executable file,

GetAngle.exe. This program displays the measured angle for each sensor queried on the RS485 Bus. The following screen should appear.

Set the correct Com port and address. Note address 177 (hB1) #00 can only be used when one sensor is connected.

Clicking on Start will show the sensor output real time. If you want to change the filter parameters go back to the setup program.

NG360Scan.exe: Use this program to identify every NG360 sensor connected to a serial PC COM port through a

RS232/RS485-Converter. The program scans the whole range of possible NG360 addresses and displays the angle values send by each connected sensor.

Program NG360Scan.exe is also supplied on the disk. This program will determine which sensors are active on the bus and then allow continuous reading of multiple sensors. The following screen will appear when executed.

Select the Com port and click on Scan. The program transmits an inquiry to all 78 possible NG360 addresses and waits for a response. If a sensor answers, the received measured angle is displayed over that sensors address. Click on Start reading to obtain continuous angle measurements from the active sensors. Press Stop reading when finished.

NG360Example.exe: This directory contains an example program for programmers, with complete MS Visual

C++ sourcecode. This open source example program developed using MS

Visual C++ 5.0 provides some information how to develop interface software for the RS232/RS485 converter and the NG360 sensors.

The NG360 sensor is RESET automatically at power on by a defined sequence of operations. The timing for the power on sequence is important for the correct function of the internal microcomputer. The starting edge of the supply voltage should be as short as possible for correct operation.

A supply voltage with a slow rise time or one that bounces can lead to the internal microcomputer program to crash. If this occurs, the sensor will give the impression that it is defective and no longer working. This can normally be fixed by shutting the power off and restarting the process over again making sure the proper input conditions are met. Similar problems can occur if the operating voltage drops below 9V. With the correct input voltage the actual sensor life is unlimited.

Description

The (RAD) Remote Angle Display is a precision instrument designed for line array speaker positioning – allowing the sound engineer to quickly establish optimum position of the PA system during installation.

Available as a single line display reading one sensor at a time (RAS2, see Photo B) or a dual line display to measure two sensors at the same time (RAD2, see Photo A), multiple sensors can be used interchangeably with one display box to coordinate multiple stacks.

The dual line RAD allows the installer to view to line arrays simultaneously and is typically sold as a set (ie (1) reader matched to (2) remote sensors).

For maximum flexibility, the single line reader works best for production companies needing to permanently install the remote sensors into various bumpers or rigs, while maintaining a smaller number of readers on the shelf. No more worrying about cross compatibility issues, especially when setting up multiple venues.

The RAD system has two sensor options (see Figures 2 & 3). A typical configuration includes one LCD Reader box with a number of matched sensors; typically 2 or 4 sensors. Both sensor and reader use standard type XLR connectors.

Custom angle range scaling available. For example, a ±70° sensor can be scaled to read +50° to -90°. (Typical V-DOSC configuration).

Over Early Warning System

Description

The RDI provides single or dual axis inclination sensing in a rugged environmentally protected housing. This is a semi-custom unit where all subassemblies are stock but specific functions are customized. A modular design allows the customer to select the measurement range, output type, and temperature compensation that best suits the individual application. Standard input ranges ±10°,

±30° and ±70° are available for both single and dual axis models – these can be scaled to specific ranges

(ie: ±45º) per axis. Special single axis ranges up to

±90° are available. Non-symmetrical (or scalable) ranges (ie: -10° to +90°) are available for applications that only tilt in one direction.

The RDI can be supplied with multiple output configurations: Digital LCD Display, Analog Voltage output, Digital Serial RS232 output, and up to four

(4) Open Collector Switch Outputs providing maximum functionality.

The LCD displays angle in degrees “º”, or optional percent grade “%”, or inch per foot rise with either

0.1 or 0.01 degree resolution. The display models come standard with 3 built in LED’s (1 green, 1 yellow, and 1 red). These can be activated to trip at predefined angles within the specified measurement range - providing the operator a bright visual warning signal - field adjustable trip angle settings optional.

Most all RDI packages are powered by external 8-

All RDI LCD display models provide a Relative Zero and a

Minimum/Maximum Angle function as a standard feature, certain options selected may be substituted. The Relative Zero (REL) allows the operator to temporarily zero the digital readout to obtain relative slope changes. The operator will always know when the device is in the REL mode by the (*) symbol that is displayed after the angle. The Minimum/Maximum Angle (MIN/MAX) function provides the smallest and largest angle the device has sensed since the last reset.

RDI Model Types

RD LCD Inclinometer

Examples of LED programming:

For leveling applications - the LED function is set so the green LED turns on when level then switches to yellow or red when out of level;

For indication of safe and unsafe conditions (such as preventing vehicle rollover) - the green light would indicate the vehicle is within the safe operating zone, the yellow light would indicate a warning zone, and the red light would indicate the vehicle is on a slope that exceeds the recommended safe operating zone - giving the operator a bright visual immediate danger signal to return to more even ground.

RDI Optional Features:

RDR LCD Remote Inclinometer

Temperature Compensation can be added depending on the required accuracy over temperature (recommended based on operating temperature). For applications that require remote angle measurement (the sensor unit is mounted separately from the

Display box) we offer remote display inclinometer packages.

0..5VDC analog voltage (0.25…4.25V) output is available - a 12 bit digital to analog converter is used to perform the conversion.

RAD Remote Angle Display

RS232 digital output is presented in decimal format in degrees, percent grade, or inch per foot rise. The output is formatted one reading per line for single axis units and two readings per line for dual axis units. The first reading for a dual axis unit represents channel 1 (typically side to side/roll) and the second reading represents channel 2 (typically front to back/pitch). The dual RDI can also be configured with both channels reading along the same axis for double redundancy.

Non-Display Output Only

Open Collector Switch Outputs (up to 4) can be factory set to switch at a predetermined angle anywhere within the selected measurement range. The switching function can be configured for either Normally Open for out of range indication or Normally Closed for in range indication. The outputs can be used to drive an external buzzer, horn, lamp, solenoid, or relay allowing for audible and/or visual warnings and equipment shut down control. Delay option -

Each switch output can be delayed from 0 to 16 seconds to help eliminate false triggering. Available in both display and non-display models, with a display model the outputs are tied directly to the

LED’s on the front panel and are configured to indicate when switching occurs for the open collector switch outputs.

The RDR Series is a Complete Remote Display of Angle Monitoring and Roll

Over Early Warning System

Description

The RDR Remote Inclinometer Package is an extension of the RDI Digital Inclinometer series. The package is supplied as a calibrated set featuring an environmentally sealed inclinometer (single or dual axis) and LCD. The RDR has the same features as the RDI including user defined inclination ranges, multiple outputs combinations, and adjustable switch output trip angle settings.

±30° and ±70° are available for both single and dual axis models – these can be scaled to specific ranges per axis. Special single axis ranges up to ±100° are available. Non-symmetrical (or scalable) ranges (ie:

-10° to +90°) are available for applications that only tilt in one direction.

The RDI can be supplied with multiple output configurations: Digital LCD Display, Analog Voltage output, Digital Serial RS232 output, and up to four

(4) Open Collector Switch Outputs providing maximum functionality.

The LCD displays angle in degrees with optional percent grade or inch per foot rise. The LCD comes standard with 3 built in LED’s (1 green, 1 yellow, and 1 red). These can be activated to trip at predefined angles within the specified measurement range - providing the operator a bright visual warning signal.

For leveling applications - the LED function is set so the green LED turns on when level then switches to yellow or red when out of level;

Temperature Compensation can be added depending on the required accuracy over temperature (recommended based on operating temperature). For applications that require remote angle measurement (the sensor unit is mounted separately from the

Display box) we offer remote display inclinometer packages.

0..5VDC analog voltage (0.25…4.25V) output is available - a 12 bit digital to analog converter is used to perform the conversion.

RDR LCD Remote Inclinometer

RAD Remote Angle Display

Non-Display Output Only

Open Collector Switch Outputs (up to 4) can be factory set to switch at a predetermined angle anywhere within the selected measurement range. The switching function can be configured for either Normally Open for out of range indication or Normally Closed for in range indication. The outputs can be used to drive an external buzzer, horn, lamp, solenoid, or relay allowing for audible and/or visual warnings and equipment shut down control. Delay option - Each switch output can be delayed from 0 to 16 seconds to help eliminate false triggering. Available in both display and nondisplay models, with a display model the outputs are tied directly to the LED’s on the front panel and are configured to indicate when switching occurs for the open collector switch outputs.

Interface cables sold separately, special connectors available upon request.

RS232 Serial Output: connects directly to your PC laptop

Description: The RDS7_BB model was specifically designed for determining safe curve speed of horizontal curves and road signing without the need for a passenger or observer.

The standard digital ball banking unit has a single line LCD display showing angle or slope in degrees. It has a built-in buzzer that is set to alarm at ±10° of angle, which is the limiting angle used by most traffic engineers in the US - however please verify this with your state DOT.

The display has 3 built-in LEDs (GREEN, YELLOW, RED), only the GREEN and RED are activated for this unit. The Green

LED will light when the angle is within the ±10º range, the

Red LED indicates when under or over the limiting angle

(>±10º). Note: this angle can be adjusted if required by your

DOT (either at the factory or by the operator with the adjustable trip angle option).

As you drive through a curve, the microprocessor records the largest positive and negative angles measured since the last reset. The most negative angle is recorded as a left turn and the most positive angle is recorded as a right turn, which would allow the operator to drive an S curve in one sweep.

Once the driver has finished going through a curve, the driver presses the MIN/MAX button once - the left angle is displayed - driver presses the button again - the Right angle is displayed - driver presses the button a third time to reset the display.

Mounting: The RDS7-BB can be mounted on any surface that is within 10 degrees of level. To determine if the surface is within the appropriate level, power up the unit and place it on the desired location. If the unit displays less than 10 degrees then the chosen location is fine. Once the mounting location has been determined, wipe the surface clean with a cleanser such as Windex and then apply one of the supplied strips of Velcro. Apply the remaining strip of Velcro to the bottom of the unit. The RDS7-BB is ready to attach to the vehicle’s surface. With the vehicle on a relatively level surface, power up the unit and look at the digital display to determine if the unit is reading 0 degrees or level. If the selected mounting location is level the unit is ready to begin ball bank operation.

Power Supply: The RDS7-BB has two power options - standard 12 Volt cigarette lighter style cable connection or 8-30VDC non-regulated input via the DSUB15 connector if the vehicle does not have a standard cigarette lighter socket.

Auto Leveling (RELATIVE ZERO): If the unit is not level, but within ±10 degrees, press and release the REL button. The display will read “REL ON” for one second then revert to normal with the unit reading zero. If after pressing the REL button and the display reads “OVER RANGE” the unit is not within ±10 degrees from level. The operator must re-position the unit then repeat auto leveling.

When the unit is in REL mode you will see the (*) symbol displayed indicating that the relative zero

(REL) function is active. Please remember that the unit should be auto leveled using the REL button while the vehicle is on a flat surface. Auto leveling with the REL button must be performed whenever the unit has been powered off.

Operation: Once the RDS7-BB unit has been auto leveled, the operator is ready to go to work. Before driving the stretch of road with the curve that will be evaluated, press the MIN/MAX button slowly three (3) times: The first press will display “LEFT” for one second, then freeze the (-) side reading. The second press will display “RIGHT” for one second, then freeze the (+) side reading. The third press of the

MIN/MAX button will display “RESET”, then immediately go back to normal function.

When in the act of determining safe curve speed, the

MINIMUM reading corresponds to left hand turns and the MAXIMUM corresponds to right hand turns. The

RDS7-BB unit comes factory set to sound an alarm at

±10 degrees, allowing the operator to safely drive through the corner - eyes on the road, not the unit. If the system determines the vehicle has exceeded ±10 degrees, it will sound an alarm, which indicates to the operator to press the MIN/MAX button to display the highest value achieved – providing the necessary information to determine the safe speed for that curve.

RS232 Output: If a laptop computer will be used in conjunction with the RDS7-BB, the appropriate

Rieker power cord will be needed to provide RS232 output. This modified power cord splits to provide a serial port connector as well as the cigarette lighter adaptor.

To install: First, insert the cable’s single-end serial connector into the RDS7-BB’s serial port then attach the computer serial port connector to the laptop’s serial port. Finally, insert the cigarette lighter adaptor end into the cigarette lighter socket of the vehicle – the unit and computer can now be switched on.

When power is supplied to the unit data will begin to flow to the laptop. The data is recorded by a program called HyperTerminal, which is available on PCs running Windows (95, 98, 2000, XP). A single column of numbers will appear on the screen with a (+) or (-) sign to distinguish between a left or right turn. The output provides a continuous stream of readings - one reading per line at approximately 250mSec per reading. The unit is configured for 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit.

Pressing the MIN/MAX button will stop the flow of data from the RDS7-BB. We recommend you press the MIN/MAX two (2) times in order to display the

“MAX” reading, specifically so that the unit is not outputting data to the computer. When driving and ready to start recording data press the MIN/MAX button one more time to reset the unit and it will resume sending data. Once you have completed the course that you want to record press the MIN/MAX button again to stop the flow of data.

Over Range: The RDS7-BB has a total range of 60 degrees (±30°). When this range is exceeded the display will read “OVER RANGE”. While this will probably not occur during normal use it can occur when mounting the unit or when using the REL button for auto leveling. If you are mounting the unit on a surface that is out of level by more than ±10 degrees the display will read “OVER RANGE”. If this occurs, simply re-position the unit to within ±10 degrees of level.

4…20mA output signal - allowing a 2-wire system; and a separate highly stable power supply for the sensor. The amplifier contains a low-pass filter for upper frequency limitation, with noise suppression filtering and a diode bridge for the unipolar current-loop operation. Both sensor and amplifier are galvanically isolated from the housing - further reducing susceptibility to outside noise. Specific response time constants and maximum current output limitations are additional options.

For a higher degree of accuracy, an NG-type sensor can be integrated into the SB1i box, which considerably reduces temperature drift over the entire temperature range. Add a strong metal PG cable fixing combined with the 2-wire current-loop output the SB1i provides a high-quality system for use under many types of harsh working conditions.

Applications

The SB1i is used where inclination or acceleration measurements need to be combined with a 4…20mA current-loop output: especially where noise and/or distance to source are a concern. Typically used in building and bridge construction, mining, radar alignment systems, pitch and roll, agricultural equipment, and all types of process machinery.

Single Axis Inclinometer + Switch Output

®

Rugged, all weather housing with integrated sensor & signal amplifier for Analog

0…5 V output.

Includes (2) Open-collector

Switch Outputs.

Description

The SB1S sensor package is for measuring acceleration or inclination along a single axis under harsh operating conditions. Its pressure die-cast Aluminum IP65 rated housing protects an integrated sensor and signal conditioner - providing Analog 0...5V output with a separate, highly stable supply voltage that can be used externally as a reference point.

The signal conditioner also includes an active low pass filter, whole upper cut-off frequency / settling time can be tailored to suit the measurement task, and a noise voltage filter to guarantee the EMC.

Interference signals caused by unwanted ground currents are eliminated by electrically isolating sensor and signal conditioner from the housing.

In addition to the voltage output, the SB1S has two open-collector switch outputs. Two helical trim-potentiometers enable the adjusting of two trigger thresholds within the measuring range, the exceeding of which causes the corresponding output switch to trigger. Optionally at time of order, the state transition can be set to be either off to on or on to off. The switching hysteresis can be adapted to the measuring task.

The SB1S accommodates the N and NG sensor types, the larger NG type has a higher measuring accuracy. A special electronic temperature compensation system significantly reduces the temperature sensitivity of the implemented sensor.

Applications

Suitable for applications requiring precise inclination or acceleration measurements under harsh circumstances, returning of a 0.5 ... 4.5V output signal and the availability of output switches.

Areas of successful implementation include construction, mining, agricultural machinery, transportation and conveyor systems, ships, operation and automation technology as well as general mechanical engineering. The output switches have their application in safety surveillance systems and direct process control.

Open-collector Switch Output Options:

Version (L): upon exceeding trigger threshold conducting - offers the possibility of connecting both opencollector outputs to one line (wired OR), thereby activating the control signal (e.g. siren) if either of the trigger thresholds is traversed.

Version (N): upon exceeding trigger threshold non-conducting - offers greater security in the activation of an alarm, since a transmission line break or supply voltage failure causes a traversing of the trigger threshold (principle of quiescent current).

FIGURE1: Cable Connections

Since the supply voltage of the SBL1 feeds off the loop current (the SBL1 requires 3mA at the most), a voltage of 9V across the SBL1 terminals must be guaranteed to ensure correct functionality even for the maximum loop current of 24mA (maximum voltage drop across transmission line and load resistor).

Mechanical overload resistance

Low pass filter with optional choice of cut-off frequency for suppression of interference frequencies

Description

In addition to the sensors, the housing contains one signal conditioner with 4...20mA output and one signal conditioner with 0...5V output. These include active low pass filters, whose upper cut-off frequencies / settling times can be adjusted to fit the measuring task, and noise voltage filters to ensure the EMC. Interference signals caused by undefined ground currents are eliminated by electrically isolating sensors and signal conditioners from each other and housing.

The voltage output of the SBL1S has two switch outputs, each with a safety relay. Two helical potentiometers allow the setting of two trigger thresholds within the measuring range, at which the corresponding relay triggers. Each relay output has an independent opening and closing contact. The switching hysteresis can be adapted to the measurement task.

The SBL1S - with a double securing ON/OFF safety control system with both current and voltage outputs combined with special electronic temperature compensation significantly reduces the temperature sensitivity - provides a very stable and strong tilt measuring system for utilization under harsh circumstances.

Applications

Recommended for use where precise inclination measurements must be taken where an added level of vibration damping is needed. Industries include construction, mining, agricultural machinery, transportation and conveyor systems, civil engineering (bridge applications), operation and automation technology.

SBS1U

Single Axis Servo Inclinometer Package

Highly sensitive ±1º, environmentally sealed servo inclinometer with ±5 Volt output signal

Description

The SBS1U sensor box is packaged in a solid and compact pressure-cast aluminum housing (IP65) with an integrated sensor for highly sensitive single axis inclination or acceleration measurements.

Within the box are 2 sections: a voltage amplifier with a

±5 Volt output signal and a separate highly stable voltage regulator that supplies power to the sensor.

The amplifier also contains an active low pass filter to suppress interference signals and transient suppression to ensure conformance to EMV regulations. The sensor and the amplifier are galvanically isolated from the housing to avoid interference from signals generated by undefined earth currents. An asymmetric 0 to 5V or a symmetrical

±5V analog voltage signal, each mutually inverse, can be measured on both signal outputs.

The tightly sealed PG metal cable connector and the compact dimensions of the 100% metal sensor housing enable this high quality measurement system to be used under severe operating conditions.

Applications

The SBS1U is recommended for use where extremely precise inclination and acceleration measurements must be taken under difficult conditions and harsh environments.

Typical applications include stability monitoring in the building, machinery, and construction industries as well as inclination monitoring of bridges, dams, towers, tunnels, slopes, and of all structures where there is risk of earthquakes or collapse.

SlopeAlert

TM

Tilt Warning System Specification Brochure

DESCRIPTION

SlopeAlert is a reliable, low cost solution for determining inrange and out of range tilt conditions. Originally designed for off-road, in-motion vehicles and equipment that operate in high vibration/shock, rough terrain environments, it is well suited for any application where tilt angle needs to be limited.

Two of the most common applications for this warning device:

1) to help prevent vehicle or equipment rollover on steep slopes; and

2) to aid track vehicles that need protection for over rotation while in motion, especially in rough terrain.

Connected to a lamp, horn, or solenoid relay, this compact single or dual axis unit can indicate both safe and unsafe conditions as well as provide a control signal to help prevent equipment over rotation.

Trip settings are factory set based on customer specification, with trip points indicating side to side and front to back or two points along the same axis. For example first trip at 10º would be the “caution getting close” alert, the second trip at 15º would be the “danger possible roll-over condition” alert).

Description

The XB is a pressure, seawater, and corrosion resistant stainless steel sensor enclosure that is perfect for extreme environment protection and underwater use.

Available as a single or dual inclinometer package, the XB offers a housing option to the SB

Aluminum housing sensor packages. Sensor specifications and outputs are exactly the same as with the SB sensor packages.

Power input and sensor output would be provided by a cable (optional) that attaches via a liquid tight cable grip fitting (PG9 VA) or an underwater quick disconnect patch cord. The SubConn

Underwater connector adds flexibility to the sealed environment.

Applications

The XB can be used in any extremely rough environment where exact inclination or acceleration measurements must be obtained in aggressive media or below sea level under pressure load.

Typically used for platform leveling or boom angle monitoring of off shore drilling platforms, construction and mining equipment, as well as sea going vessels. It is particularly suited for offshore applications where the use of an underwater patch cord allows sensor connection underwater.
