Read these safety instructions carefully.

Keep this User Manual for later reference.

Disconnect this equipment from any AC outlet before cleaning. Use a damp cloth. Do not use liquid or spray detergents for cleaning.

4.

For plug-in equipment, the power outlet socket must be located near the equip ment and must be easily accessible.

5.

Keep this equipment away from humidity.

6.

Put this equipment on a reliable surface during installation. Dropping it or letting it fall may cause damage.

7.

Do not leave this equipment in an unconditioned environment where the storage temperature is under 0 equipment.

 The power cord or plug is damaged.

 Liquid has penetrated into the equipment.

 The equipment has been exposed to moisture.

 The equipment does not work well, or you cannot get it to work according to the user's manual.

 The equipment has been dropped and damaged.

 The equipment has obvious signs of breakage.

CAUTION: The computer is provided with a battery-powered, real-time clock circuit. There is a danger of explosion if the battery is incorrectly replaced.

Replace only with the same or an equivalent type recommended by the manu facturer. Discard used batteries according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions:

(1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and

(2) This device must accept any interference received, including interference.

CAUTION: Always completely disconnect the power cord from your chassis whenever you work with the hardware. Do not make connections while the power is on. Sensitive electronic components can be damaged by sudden power surges.

CAUTION: Always ground yourself to remove any static charge before touching the mainboard, backplane, or add-on cards. Modern electronic devices are very sensitive to static electric charges. As a safety precaution, use a grounding wrist strap at all times. Place all electronic components on a static-dissipative surface or in a static-shielded bag when they are not in the chassis.

CAUTION: Any unverified component could cause unexpected damage. To ensure the correct installation, please always use the components (ex. screws) provided with the accessory box.

(1) This equipment is not suitable for use in locations where children are likely to be present.

CAUTION: Improper installation of VESA mounting can result in serious per sonal injury! Use suitable mounting apparatus to avoid risk of injury. VESA mount installation should be operated by professional technician, please contact the service technician or your retailer if you need this service.

CAUTION: Repair of the device may only be carried out by trained service per sonnel. Advantech recommends that a service contract be obtained with Advan tech Service and that all repairs also be carried out by them. Otherwise the correct functioning of the device may be compromised.

CAUTION: Do not modify this equipment without authorization of the manufac turer.

(1) Please take a rest for 10 minutes after using 30 minutes.

(2) Do not let the children under 2 years old watching the monitor (or display).

For children over (including) 2 years old, do not watch the monitor (od display) over 1 hour each day.

CAUTION: If the user does not follow the user manual to use the equipment, it will have risk to cause the bottom side opening of the equipment.

Cet appareil est conforme à la section 15 du règlement de la FCC. Le fonctionnement est soumis aux deux conditions suivantes:

Follow these simple precautions to protect yourself from harm and the products from damage:

To avoid electrical shock, always disconnect the power from your PC chassis before you work on it.

2.

For the sake of the equipment, disconnect power before making any configura tion changes. The sudden rush of power as you connect a jumper or install a card may damage sensitive electronic components.

3.

Electronic components are also vulnerable to damage by electrostatic dis charge. An electrostatic charge can build up on the human body, especially where the air is dry. At minimum, dissipate potential body charge before han dling any electronic board by touching a conductive surface on the chassis.

Only then remove circuit boards from their anti-static bags. Handle boards by the edges or mounting brackets only; do not touch components or connecting pins.

Product Warranty / 产品质量保证 / 產品保固

Advantech warrants to you, the original purchaser, that each of its products will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for two years from the date of pur chase.

This warranty does not apply to any products which have been repaired or altered by persons other than repair personnel authorized by Advantech, or which have been subject to misuse, abuse, accident or improper installation. Advantech assumes no liability under the terms of this warranty as a consequence of such events.

Because of Advantech’s high quality-control standards and rigorous testing, most of our customers never need to use our repair service. If an Advantech product is defec tive, it will be repaired or replaced at no charge during the warranty period. For outof-warranty repairs, you will be billed according to the cost of replacement materials, service time and freight. Please consult your dealer for more details.

If you think you have a defective product, follow these steps:

1.

Collect all the information about the problem encountered. (For example: CPU speed, Advantech products used, other hardware and software used, etc.) Note anything abnormal and list any on-screen messages you get when the problem occurs.

2.

Call your dealer and describe the problem. Please have your manual, product, and any helpful information readily available.

3.

If your product is diagnosed as defective, obtain an RMA (return merchandise authorization) number from your dealer. This allows us to process your return more quickly.

4.

Carefully pack the defective product, a fully completed Repair and Replacement

Order Card and a photocopy proof of purchase date (such as your sales receipt) in a shippable container. A product returned without proof of the purchase date is not eligible for warranty service.

5.

Write the RMA number visibly on the outside of the package and ship it prepaid to your dealer.

When you open the carton, please make sure that the following materials have been shipped:

 Chassis

 User Manual

 Warranty Card

 Accessory box with a package of screws (for fastening the motherboard, optical disk drive, other disk drivers, riser card, ears and handles, etc.), a stub copper, fan extended cables, Hard drive cables, GPU brackets and a pair of ears and handles.

If any of these items are missing or damaged, contact your distributor or sales repre sentative immediately. We have carefully inspected the product mechanically and electrically before shipment. It should be free of marks and scratches and in perfect working order upon receipt. As you unpack the product, check it for signs of shipping damage. (For example, damaged box, scratches, dents, etc.) If it is damaged or fails to meet the specifications, notify our service department or your local sales represen tative immediately. Also, please notify the carrier. Retain the shipping carton and packing material for inspection by the carrier. After inspection, we will make arrange ments to repair or replace the unit.

The HPC-6240 is a 2U short-depth high density chassis. It can support 4 x Full-

Height/ Full-Length expansion slots, 4 x Full-Height/ Half-Length expansion slots, 4 x hot-swappable HDD Bays in short-depth length 20” length 2U chassis.

Featuring the latest in industrial design, the HPC-6240 represents a breakthrough from the traditional, rigid concept of industrial PCs. HPC-6240 can adapt only with proprietary server board ASMB-62 series to implement the feature of eight PCIe expansion slots. Four of them can support Full-Height/Full-Length expansion cards with PCIe x16 signal; three of them can support Full-Height/ Half-Length expansion cards with PCIe x8 signal; one of the them can support Full-Height/ Half-Length expansion card with the PCIe x4 signal coming from the PCH.

These enriched expansion slots can fulfill almost all expansion possibilities of 2U chassis demands in both the IEM and AOI field. For example: four PCIe x16 can be used for GPU Card/Accelerator cards; four PCIe x8 for Frame Grabber Cards/ NIC

Cards and one PCIe x4 for RAID card/ IO cards etc.

HPC-6240 also supports 4 x hot-swappable HDD Bays and has a powerful 1+1 redundancy 1200W power solution.

The following procedures instruct users on how to install a motherboard, a riser card, add-on cards, and disk drives into the chassis. Please also refer to “Appendix A:

Exploded Diagram and Parts List” for detailed parts of the chassis.

下述步骤指导用户如何在 HPC-6240 产品内安装母板、附加卡和磁盘驱动器。有关产品

组件的信息，请参考附录 A 的分解图和组件列表。

Removing the Cover / 移除顶盖 / 移除上蓋

To remove the cover, please proceed as instructed below:

1.

Unscrew 5 screws in top and 2 screws in side.

2.

Slide the top cover backwards and then lift it up (see Figure 2.1).

Figure 2.4 shows the stub copper location for attaching the specific ASMB-62 series motherboard. Users can find the motherboard screws in the accessory box. Lock the motherboard screws into the correct location and then rotate them counter clockwise to fasten it onto the chassis (See Figure 2.5).

Connect two 4-pin +12 V power connector with HDD BP power cable to the

HDD BP.

Connect six 4-pin +12V system FAN and one 8-pin system FAN connectors with the system FAN.

Connect one SFF-8643 connector to 4 port SATA cable and to HDD BP.

5.

Connect two 8-pin +12V power connector to GPU card cable and to GPU card.

Module

1.

Unscrew 2 screws in the top and slide the IO Module bracket backwards (See

Figure 2.6).

2.

Assembly the IO Board together with IO Module racket.

3.

Lock 4 IO board screws into the correct location and then rotate counter clock wise to fasten it onto the IO Module bracket. (See Figure 2.7).

4.

Insert IO Module back to and tighten the 2 screws on the top of IO Module bracket. (See Figure 2.6)

1.

After the first step, attach the LR Riser Card into Riser Cage-1 with 4 screws in location H1, H3, H4, H5. Use two stub coppers on the UR Riser Card and two stub coppers on the bracket. (See Figure 2.10)

ODD Installation

HPC-6240 provides 1 internal slim ODD module. To install the ODD module, please refer to the following instructions.

1.

To install the slim ODD module, please release the screws on top of the slim

ODD brackets. See Figure 2.24.

2.

Insert the slim ODD module into the proper location in the bracket and secure them with the screws provided.

3.

Return the slim ODD module with brackets into the original position and fasten it with the screws.

4.

Connect the suitable SATA cable and power cable from the motherboard to the slim ODD module.

HPC-6240 支持 1 个光驱模块, 请参考以下指示安装光驱模块

1.

安装光驱时, 请卸下光驱支架上的螺丝 (如图 2.24 所示)

2.

将光驱插入支架上的相应位置, 并使用提供的螺丝固定

3.

将光驱与支架放为原位后使用螺丝固定

4.

将光驱与主板上的讯号线与电源线相连。

HPC-6240 支援 1 個光碟機模組, 請參考以下指示安裝光碟機模組

Installing HDD in HDD Trays /安装硬盘于硬盘托盘

1.

Press the key latch on the top of the HDD tray, then pull out the HDD tray from the HDD bay (See Figure 2.25).

2.

Slide the 2.5” disk drive into the proper location in the tray and fix it with 4 screws (See Figure 2.26).

3.

Return and push the HDD tray to the chassis until the handle on the tray can move back.

4.

Repeat Steps 1 to 3 if the second 2.5” HDD/SSD needs to be installed.

1.

按下硬盘抽取托盘上方的固定按键后将硬盘抽取托盘拉出( 如图 2.25 所示)。

2.

将 2.5”硬盘固定于硬盘抽取托盘上并透过锁附四个螺丝固定( 如图 2.26 所

There is a pair of ears and handles in the accessory box. If you need to install them, please refer to Figure 2.27 to simply fasten them to the front-right and front-left mounting ears with the screws provided.

Slide Rail

1.

Release the inner rail from the outer rail.

Attach the inner rail to the chassis.

Press the release rail against the chassis, lift the clip (A) and slide the inner rail toward the chassis rear (B)

Attach the outer rail to the rack.

Lift lever, aim the rack mount pin to the rack post and push forward.

Lift lever, aim the rack mount pin to the rack post and pull back.

Mount system in the rack.

a.

Be sure the ball bearing retain is locked forward.

b.

Pull the middle rail out of the outer rail until locked.

c.

Push system into the rack.

The Front Panel / 前面板

The HPC-6240 front panel features six LED indicators, two USB3.0 type A, one power switch, one reset button, one ODD bay and four 2.5” hot-swappable HDD trays.

Momentary Power switch: Press this switch to turn the system power on or off.

Please use system shutdown or press this switch for few seconds to turn off the sys tem ATX power.

System Reset button: Press this button to reboot the system.

Six LEDs are placed on the top of the front panel to indicate system power and LAN activity. Refer to Table 3.1 for the LED definition summary.

The Rear Panel / 后面板 / 後面板

The compact design of HPC-6240 offers multiple expansion possibilities. There are four FH/FL expansions on the left side, two in the middle and two on the right side:

HPC-6240 comes with a modularized motherboard IO design and a 1200W 1+1 redundancy power supply.

There are eight PCIe slots in the riser cages (See Figure 3.2)
