The RoadLink™ Module
9 June, 1998 LAND SURVEY
Trimble Confidential
A Module of Trimble Survey Office™ Software V1.1
The RoadLink module in Trimble Survey Office software V1.1 acts as an interface between third party road definitions and Trimble’s Survey Controller™ software V6.5.
The RoadLink module allows you to enter road definitions, view the data graphically and the edit the definition. The road definition can then be transferred to the Survey Controller software for stakeout.
In addition, the RoadLink module allows for cut and fill earthwork volumes to be calculated between the road design and a surface model defined using the DTMLink™ module of Trimble Survey
Office software V1.1.
Yes, the RoadLink module is an integral component of Trimble Survey Office software V1.1 and is installed as part of the Trimble Survey Office software V1.1 installation. The RoadLink module is accessed from the Survey menu.
Yes, data from Trimble Survey Office software V1.1 can be exported for use in the RoadLink module. Often there are fixed positions on the ground that relate to the road definition you are staking out. These points can be surveyed and exported to the RoadLink module allowing for the horizontal alignment location to be checked.
The four aspects supported by the RoadLink module are:
• The Horizontal alignment including spiral/arc/spiral, spiral/spiral and circular curves
• The Vertical alignment including symmetric parabolas and circular curves
• Templates defined as a single design surface including side slopes
• Superelevation records to the AASHTO and AUSTROADS standards
The RoadLink module provides two methods for entry of road definitions:
• Automated conversion of horizontal and vertical alignment files provided by supported thirdparty design software, combined with manual entry of the templates and superelevation records.
• Manual input of the complete road definition including the horizontal and vertical alignments, templates and superelevation/widening records.

What 3 rd party formats are supported by the RoadLink module?
A number of 3 rd below:
party formats are supported by the RoadLink module, some of these are listed
• SDMS
• Softdesk (DCA)
• Inroads
• MOSS
• CLIP
Please refer to the RoadLink module Users Guide for a complete list of all 3 rd supported.
party formats
Yes, the centerline only can be staked out either in two or three dimensions. By defining the horizontal and vertical alignment of the centerline, the road definition will consist of the centerline defined in three dimensions. By defining only the horizontal alignment of the centerline, the road definition will consist of the centerline defined in two dimensions.
Yes, the RoadLink module has an option to calculate the earthwork volumes from a surface model created in the DTMLink module.
Yes, the RoadLink module will interface with the Sokkia SDR31/33 data logger. Both a file of the road definition for stake out and a file with the road coordinates can be exported to the SDR31/33 data logger.
