1 Presentation of the PL7-MMI 17 software
1.1
Introduction
PL7-MMI 17 is a station tool for developing man-machine interface applications which will be used to control automated systems from CCX 17 type industrial operator panels.
Several methods of communication enable the PLC application and the man-machine interface application to be synchronized.
PL7-MMI 17 stores the man-machine interface application in the operator panel
• Requests to display messages and execute commands are prompted by writing variables to a PLC data zone (this zone is called the mailbox). The CCX 17 operator panel periodically reads the data in the mailbox and executes the associated commands.
The advantage of this method lies in its simplicity (communication between the PLC and the operator panel is totally transparent and does not require any special programming).
• Requests to display messages and execute commands are prompted by sending text function blocks containing the numbers of the messages or of the groups of messages to be displayed.
This method enables the variables displayed on the operator panel to be refreshed slightly faster because there is no periodic scanning of the mailbox.
The messages and commands are sent on an ad hoc basis to the CCX 17 by the
PLC, using function blocks
All the messages reside in the PLC memory. This should be sized accordingly.

4 Communication principles
4.1
General
To establish a dialog between the PLC and CCX 17 operator panels, a number of commands for the operator panels must be set up in the PLC application. Two types of
exchanges can be used for this purpose :
• exchanges via a mailbox : The messages to be displayed and the commands to be performed are transferred to the CCX 17 operator panel via a PLC memory zone allocated to exchanges between the PLC and the operator panel. This zone can be accessed in both read mode and write mode.
Wi
• exchanges via text function blocks : The messages to be displayed and the commands to be performed are transferred to the CCX 17 operator panel via text function blocks.
TxTi
The principles for using both these types of exchange are described later. Examples of applications using communication both via mailbox and text function blocks are provided in sections 7 and 8.
Both types of exchange can be used in the same application.
___________________________________________________________________________
4/1
Depending on the bus used for communication, (FIPIO or UNI-TELWAY), data exchanges are performed in different ways :
On the FIPIO fieldbus
Exchanges are performed :
• by a memory zone reserved for periodic exchanges specific to FIPIO, in which case the CCX 17 can access 8 words in read mode (ROW) and one word in write mode (RIW). This zone is automatically reserved in the PLC memory, and is extended to 78 ROW for the CCX17-A.
• by UNI-TE exchange requests
(communication via mailbox or by text function blocks).
The principles of communication on FIPIO
(ROW and RIW word management, etc) are described in section 4.5.
On the UNI-TELWAY bus
Exchanges are made by UNI-TE requests
(communication via mailbox or by text function blocks).
___________________________________________________________________________
4/2
Communication principles 4
4.2
Exchanges via mailbox
4.2-1 Mailbox structure
The mailbox which is reserved for exchanges with the CCX 17 operator panel is a zone in the PLC word or (on FIPIO) ROW memory. It contains a command table with the following structure :
Wi Status of indicator lamps
Wi+1 Number of message group to be displayed *
Wi+2 Number of 1st status message to be displayed
Wi+3 Number of 2nd status message to be displayed
Wn
...
...
Number of last status message to be displayed
* If the number of the group to be displayed is 0, the CCX 17 displays the messages whose number is contained in words
Wi+2 to Wn. If the number of the group to be displayed is not 0, only the selected group is displayed.
The start of this table, together with its length, are defined by the user when the application is created using PL7-MMI 17 (see section 5.2-2).
Note: To redisplay the same group, the corresponding mailbox word must be set to zero then reset to the group value.
4.2-2 Executing commands
The CCX 17 operator panel periodically scans this word table and executes the commands originating from the PLC application in the following order :
• Read then display the status of operator panel indicator lamps (read word Wi).
• Read the number of the message group to be displayed.
- if the number of the message group to be displayed is zero (Wi+1 = 0), the operator panel scans the contents of the following words in the table (Wi+2 to Wn), then displays all the status messages whose corresponding number is not zero. The word must be set to zero before changing the number of the new message to be displayed.
- if the number of the message group to be displayed is not zero, the operator panel only displays the status messages contained in the corresponding group.
Example :
Display of message number 10 (End of cycle) and message number 3 (Oven ready).
Mailbox zone
Wi = 0
Display messages number 10 and 3 Wi+1 = 0
Wi+2 = 10

Communication principles 4
4.2-4 Managing acknowledgments : error processing
Monitoring the display of messages and possibly the entry of a variable is configured when the application is created using PL7-MMI 17 (see section 5.2-2).
The CCX 17 manages two types of acknowledgment :
• read acknowledgment,
• write acknowledgment.
Read acknowledgment
When this type of acknowledgment is required, the CCX 17 indicates in a PLC internal word table that the commands have been performed by the operator panel (lamps, messages displayed, etc). This word table is adjacent to and structured in the same way as the command table.
Example
In the example below, the application program only asks for status message number 10 to be displayed (End of cycle). If acknowledge on read is required, after message number
10 has been displayed, the CCX 17 operator panel automatically updates the corresponding word (Wn+4) in the table reserved for acknowledge on read.

4/5
Write acknowledgment
When this type of acknowledgment is required, the CCX 17 indicates in a PLC internal word table that the operator entry required has been entered. This word table, which is adjacent to the acknowledge on read table, is structured in the same way as the command table (if acknowledge on read is not required, this table is placed after the command table).
Example
In the example below, the application program requests the speed of the motor to be entered when status message number 22 is displayed (Speed = 60 rpm). If acknowledge on read and write is required, after message number 22 has been displayed, the CCX 17 operator panel automatically updates the corresponding word (Wn+3) in the table reserved for acknowledge on read. When the operator enters the required value, the corresponding word (Wm+3), is updated in the table reserved for acknowledge on write. The value entered by the operator is written into the PLC data zone via a UNI-TE request.

4.2-5 Managing alarm messages
A PLC bit or word memory zone, periodically scanned by the CCX 17 operator panel, is assigned to managing alarm messages. These messages are managed using word bits for TSX 17-20 and TSX 47-20 PLCs, whereas the other PLCs can use both a bit type zone and a word type zone. Each internal bit or each word bit of this table represents an alarm. The table structure is as follows :
Management by internal bits Management by word bit

Both the start of this table and its length are defined by the user when the application is created using PL7-MMI 17 (see section 5.2-2).
Alarms are managed by the CCX 17 operator panel in one of two ways :
• The alarms are memorized in the operator panel while waiting to be displayed and acknowledged later by the operator. In this mode, status messages issued by the process can continue to be displayed.

Exchanges via text function blocks
4.3-1 Displaying a message (or a group) without operator entry
The CCX 17 operator panel memory contains the application created using PL7-MMI 17.
This application comprises several types of messages :
• status messages comprising text (with or without operator entry),
• alarm messages,
• groups of messages, each group consisting of lists of status messages.
When the PLC application wishes to display a status message, a group or an alarm message on the CCX 17 operator panel, it indicates the number of the corresponding message (or group) in a text block transmission table. In all cases, the PLC receives confirmation of the exchange. If an error is detected, the first word in the text block reception table contains information to help identify the cause (see section 8.2-1).

Reminder :
The CCX 17 operator panel can display several messages at the same time (up to 32 messages for a CCX 17-30 and 16 for a CCX 17-20).
These limits are valid for entry and refresh modes. The messages are positioned when they are defined either by selecting line and column or by defining whether the messages should be centered or aligned to the right or left. The user must therefore select the correct geographical position of the messages in order to prevent any overlapping.
The appendix to this manual contains grids which may be helpful for programming messages.

4.3-2 Displaying a message with operator entry
When a displayed message includes a value to be entered by the operator, the entry can be fed back to the PLC in two different ways :
• operator entry neither checked nor synchronized by the PLC application,
• operator entry checked and synchronized by the PLC application.
(a parameter at the start of the text block transmission table defines which method is selected) :
Both examples are discussed later.

4.3-3 Request to display an alarm message
The CCX 17 operator panel contains the alarm messages in its memory (generated using PL7-MMI 17). An alarm message from the PLC application program is displayed by transmitting a text block containing the number of the alarm message.
Alarms are managed by the CCX 17 operator panel in one of two ways :
• the alarms are memorized in the operator panel while waiting to be displayed and acknowledged later by the operator. In this mode, status messages issued by the process can continue to be displayed.

4.3-4 Managing the operator panel indicator lamps
On the front panel of the CCX 17 operator panel there are three indicator lamps. These lamps show the results of the self-tests during operator panel power-up, then once the self-tests are complete, they are made available to the user. The status of the indicator lamps (on, off or blinking) is modified by transmission of a text block containing the required values.

Communication principles on the FIPIO fieldbus
Reminder :
A CCX 17 operator panel connected to a FIPIO fieldbus can communicate simultaneously :
• via mailbox, as shown in section 4.2,
• via text function block, as shown in section 4.3,
• by using the FIPIO periodic message handling system. This communication mode is demonstrated below.
Principles
In order for a CCX 17 to be able to exchange information via FIPIO, it must be configured using the XTEL-CONF station tool (for more details about using this tool, refer to the corresponding document).
___________________________________________________________________________
4/16
Communication principles 4
XTEL reserves a memory zone specific to data exchanges shared between the PLC bus arbitrator and each CCX 17 configured on a FIPIO fieldbus. These exchanges occur periodically without intervention by the PLC application program.
This memory zone is composed of :
For the CCX 17 family :
• eight words (ROW) written by the PLC and read by the CCX 17,
• one word (RIW) written by the CCX 17 and read by the PLC.
For the CCX17-A family :
• 78 words (ROW, ROWA, ROWB, ROWC, ROWD) written by the PLC and read by the
CCX 17,
• one word (RIW) written by the CCX 17 and read by the PLC.
Note :
The only configuration possible for the CCX 17-A family is as a CCX 17 in its basic
V2.2 version.
ROW ROWA... ROWD
RIW
___________________________________________________________________________
4/17
Syntax
A CCX 17 can display status or alarm messages containing ROWs or send information to the PLC via a RIW word.
For the CCX 17 family, the syntax of these words is as follows :
• ROWi,j,k where i corresponds to the CCX 17 connection point (from 1 to 62), j = 0 and k corresponds to the position of the ROW to be read (from 0 to 7).
Example : ROW3,0,5 to read the sixth ROW word assigned to the CCX 17 connected at connection point 3.
• RIWi,j,k,l is used by the CCX to send the control button status to the PLC automatically, i corresponds to the CCX 17 connection point (from 1 to 62), j = 0, k =0 and l corresponds to the bit position of the RIW
(for more information, refer to section 5.6-1).
For the CCX 17-A family, the 78 words can be addressed in the following way :
• ROWi,j,k where i corresponds to the CCX 17 connection point (from 1 to 62), j = 0 and k corresponds to the position of the ROW to be read (from 0 to 15),
• ROWAi,j,k with k from 16 to 31 inclusive,
• ROWBi,j,k with k from 16 to 31 inclusive,
• ROWCi,j,k with k from 16 to 31 inclusive,
• ROWDi,j,k with k from 16 to 31 inclusive.
Attention
The ROW and ROWA variables are not consecutive. On the other hand, ROWA,
ROWB, ROWC, ROWD are consecutive.
Examples : ROWA5,0,16 to read the seventeenth ROW word assigned to the
CCX 17-A connected to connection point 5.
ROWB5,0,17 to read the thirty-fourth ROW word assigned to the CCX 17-A connected to connection point 5.
Important :
It is strongly recommended that these elements are used instead of standard words or bits in order to improve display and PLC dialog performance : the timesaving is from a factor of 5 to 10 depending on the dialog applications.
___________________________________________________________________________
4/18
Communication principles 4
Managing RIW/ROW in PLC tasks
It is possible to manage RIW/ROW in one task and ROWA...ROWD in another. These elements will always be updated at the rate of the task in which they have been configured.
Selection is made when the CCX 17 is configured using the XTEL-CONF tool and is only possible for the CCX 17-A family.
Task modification is accessed via the Parameters button in the screens below :
___________________________________________________________________________
4/19
Maximum number of devices
The maximum number of devices which can be connected depends on the type of
CCX 17 operator panels and how they communicate on the FIPIO fieldbus :
• If no CCX 17 is sending messages, the maximum number of CCX17 which can be connected is 7 for the CCX 17-A type and 25 for the CCX 17 type.
• If the configuration has only one PLC with several CCX 17 sending messages (wordtype variable, exchanged bit), the maximum number of CCX 17 is given by the formula :
Max no. =
1
2 x CPU scan time
This number is divided by 2 for the TSX 47-455.
The PLC scan time is expressed in seconds in this formula.
Example:
For TSX 67-455 to TSX 107-455 type PLCs with a scan time of 50 ms, the maximum number of CCX 17 is 10.
The maximum number of CCX 17 is 5 for a TSX 47-455 PLC with the same scan time
(50 ms).
4.7
Optimization rules
Certain rules must be observed to ensure optimization :
• The objects must be of the same type,
• The difference between the object indices must be less than certain values depending on the object type :
For internal bits (Bi), the maximum difference between index values is 480.
For word bits (Wi,x), the maximum difference between index values is 59.
For internal bits (Wi), the maximum difference between index values is 59.
For double words (DWi), the maximum difference between index values is 29.
Optimization examples :
It is possible to send a single request (by object type) to access the following objects :
• B0, B100 and B480.
• W0,0 to W59,F.
• W0, W1, W2 and W59.
• DW0, DW10 and DW29.

5/2
Using PL7-MMI 17 software 5
5.1-5 Changing type of operator panel
The type of operator panel can be changed provided the new operator panel has more extensive functions (eg changing from a CCX 17-20 to a CCX 17-30).
The operator panel can also be changed for one with less extensive functions if the following points are respected :
• The maximum number of status messages, alarms, message groups and configuration of the command keys must be accepted by the new operator panel.
• The line numbers of the status messages must be accepted by the new operator panel.
• The number of messages and the numbers assigned to the message groups must be accepted by the new operator panel.
• The length of the command and alarm zone must be accepted by the new operator panel.
• The number of the group displayed by default must be accepted by the new operator panel.
If these conditions are not satisfied, a message indicates the type of error. Changing from one operator panel to another is therefore impossible. The user must consequently modify the application in order to change the operator panel.
It is not possible to change a type of operator panel with a FIPIO application (CCX 17-
20F / 20FPS 20L / 20LPS / 30L and 30LPS) to an operator panel which does not accept
FIPIO (CCX 17-20LW 20FW / 30 LW).

Configuring the application
5.2-1 Configuring the operator panel
This function enables the parameters of the CCX 17 operator panel which will receive the application to be configured. It is divided into two parts :
• configuration of general parameters (operator panel setup language, date format, etc),
• configuration of "protected" parameters (type of protocol used, etc). This data can only be accessed once a password has been entered.
Configuring the general parameters
The configuration screens are accessed from the initial program screen by selecting the
Application/Configure/CCX 17 Operator Panel function.
This screen shows the type of operator panel being used and offers the following modifications :

"Protected" parameters can only be accessed by entering a password.
Password
This screen is used to enter the password, which must contain four numerical characters. The default value is 0000 (or enter).
The numbers do not appear on-screen when the password is entered (asterisks confirm the pressing of keys). If the password is not valid, the screen opposite is displayed. Entering the correct password provides access to the screen below :
This screen summarizes the selections already made and offers the following modifications :
Default group No
This item enables entry of the number of the group whose messages will be displayed by default when the operator panel is powered up or the application is started. If the user does not want the message to be displayed when the operator panel is switched on, this field should contain the value zero (or should be empty).
___________________________________________________________________________
5/5
Refresh period
Exchange zone period
This item is used to enter the read frequency of the command mailbox.
There are 9 possible choices :
None / 400ms / 800ms / 2s / 4s / 8s / 32s / 1min / 5min.
The "none" value means that the CCX 17 never consults the command mailbox.
Inhibit keys
This item is used to enter the update rate of the variables displayed on the CCX 17. Ten values are possible :
Fast / 400ms / 600ms / 800ms / 1s / 2s / 4s / 10s / 30s / 1min.
The "fast" value means that the CCX 17 reads the variable value as fast as possible.
The CCX 17 sends one request per time unit : therefore a value of
1 second means that the CCX 17 will wait 1 second before reading the next variable.
For example, if the CCX 17 is displaying a Wi word and the time and if 1sec is configured, the time will be updated every two seconds.

5/6
Protocol
Using PL7-MMI 17 software 5
This function, accessed from the initial screen, authorizes modification of the operator panel - PLC data link parameters.
Operator panel protocol
This enables the operator panel protocol to be selected :
• Unitelway slave : the operator panel is configured as a slave of the
UNI-TELWAY bus (which is the most frequent case),
• Unitelway master : the operator panel is configured as the
UNI-TELWAY bus master (this has to be used when the operator panel is connected to the terminal port of a TSX 17-20 micro-PLC).
• Fipio : the operator panel is configured to be connected to a FIPIO fieldbus.
When changing the protocol, the software checks that non validated addresses for the new protocol do not already exist in the status or alarm messages (a ROW is for example not allowed in a UNI-TELWAY protocol). If this is not the case changing the protocol is not allowed.
Unitelway protocol
This item enables the parameters of the UNI-TELWAY link to be selected :
• Speed : communication speed must be between 300 and 19200 bauds (the default speed is 9600 bauds). All devices connected on the same bus must have the same communication speed.
• Time-out : the time-out corresponds to the response time of the PLC application to a request sent by the CCX 17 operator panel. This must be at least equal to 10000 ms. If this is not the case, an error message is displayed.
• Slave address : this field, which can only be accessed when the protocol for the operator panel is specified as "Unitelway master", enables the slave address which will communicate with the operator panel to be selected.
___________________________________________________________________________
5/7
FIPIO protocol This item enables the connection point of the CCX 17 operator panel on the FIPIO fieldbus to be selected.
Printer link
When changing the value of the connection point, all the ROWi,j,k type variables included in status or alarm messages are automatically assigned to the new connection point if they are symbolized in the station database. If this is not the case, changing of the connection point is denied.
The CCX 17 must be configured on the new connection point in XTEL-
CONF.
This item enables the printer parameters to be selected.
• Communication speed : choice of bit rate, values can be between
300 and 9600 bauds,
• Parity : corresponds to the type of link parity (even, odd or none),
• Data : corresponds to the number of data bits (7 or 8 bits),
• Stop bit : corresponds to the number of stop bits (1 or 2),
• Log print-out : Confirms or inhibits the continuous printout of operator panel messages.

Password entry Modification of the "protected" parameters of the application is controlled by password. This item enables it to be changed.
Reminder :
• The password, containing numerical characters only, must include four digits. It must be entered twice for security reasons.
• The numbers do not appear on-screen when the password is entered (asterisks confirm the pressing of keys).

5.2-2 Configuring the Data Link
This function enables the tables required for mailbox communication to be configured.
It is accessed from the initial program screen by selecting the Application/Configure/
Data Link function.
This screen is divided into two parts :
• one part reserved for the report,
• one part reserved for mailbox exchanges. This part is divided into two zones :
- dedicated alarm zone,
- dedicated command zone.
PART RESERVED FOR THE REPORT
Report variable and Report symbol
The CCX 17 operator panel generates a status word (at the end of its self-tests) which is written into an internal word of the PLC memory.
This internal word must be symbolized in the station database. The user specifies either the variable (eg W100) or symbol (eg St_12) when entering this word. Details on this status word are given in section 10.1-
1.
If the symbol for this word has not been defined in the station database, the following message is displayed on the screen.
___________________________________________________________________________
5/10
Using PL7-MMI 17 software 5
Once the message has been confirmed, the terminal asks if the user wants to run the station database in order to assign a symbol to this internal word.
Alarm acknowlegment
The selection of this function enables the CCX 17 to return the number of the alarm message acknowledged by the user to the PLC. This value is written to the word following the status word reserved for the report variable (for example, if W100 is the report variable, the word dedicated to the alarm acknowledgment is W101).
PART RESERVED FOR THE ALARM ZONE
This zone is divided into three zones which must not overlap :
• Zone 1: The first alarm zone is used to define a table used for alarm communication via shared memory between the PLC and the panel. The length specified corresponds to the number of words or bits (depending on the variable).
Start variable or Start symbol
These fields are used to enter the variable or symbol for the first object in the table which is specific to the type of station used :
• For a TSX 17 or TSX 27 station, the variable must be a word; each word bit represents an alarm which should be displayed.
• For other types of station, the variable can be a bit, word or ROW.
Comments
When a bit (or a word bit) in this table changes to 1, the alarm message corresponding to this bit is displayed on the operator panel. As with the other parameters where a variable has to be entered, the first internal word (or bit) in this table must be symbolized in the station database.
When data is entered, the user must specify either the variable (eg
B10, W200, etc) or the symbol (eg Alarm_4) of this bit or word. If the symbol is not defined in the station database, a message enables, as for the status parameter, the station database to be run.
If no variable or symbol is selected or if the length defined is zero, the
CCX 17 operator panel does not use this type of exchange for the alarms.
For TSX 17 or TSX 27-47 type stations, the variable must be a word.
___________________________________________________________________________
5/11
Start
This field is used to define the number of the first alarm message for zone 1.
Length
This field specifies the length of the table.
For a TSX 17, TSX 27 or TSX 47 type station, the maximum length of the table is 10 words for a CCX 17-20 or 15 for a CCX 17-30.
For other types of station, the maximum length of the table depends on the type of variable used :
• bit : the length of the table is limited to the maximum number of alarm messages (150 for a CCX 17-20 or 300 for a CCX 17-30)
• word : the length of the table is limited to the maximum number of modulo 16 alarm messages (10 for a CCX 17-20 or 19 for a
CCX 17-30)
• ROW type : the length of the table is limited to the maximum number of modulo 16 alarm messages and to the type of family used
(CCX 17 or CCX 17-A)
Overflow is not possible between ROWs in different functional units

Start variable or Start symbol
These fields are used to enter the variable or symbol of the first monitored error bit, for a given type of diagnostic OFB (for example,
EPON0,ERROR). During operation, when the monitored error bit of a
OFB changes to 1, the corresponding alarm message is displayed on the CCX 17 operator panel.

Length
The value entered in this field is used to define the number of the start alarm message, for zone 2 or zone 3.
The value entered in this field specifies the length of the table allocated to the alarm zone; in other words, the number of the OFB to be monitored. This length can be anything up to 60.
The 3 alarm zones (zones 1 to 3) share the same space without any overlap between the different zones.
OFB alarm zone variables screen
This screen can be accessed via the Screen/OFB alarm zone
variables command and is used to display all the diagnostic OFB error bit type variables associated with alarm events. The function is only active when the OFB status management mode is validated in the Data Link Configuration screen.

DESCRIPTION OF THE COMMAND ZONE
The command zone is used to define a word table which is used for communication via shared memory between the PLC and the operator panel.
Start variable or Start symbol
These fields are used to enter the variable or symbol of the first object in the
PLC table where the operator panel will read the commands. This must be an internal word (W) or ROW and must be symbolized in the station database. When entering data, the user must specify either the variable (eg
W150) or symbol (eg Table_2) of this word. If the symbol is not defined in the station database, a message enables, as for the report parameter, the station database to be run.
Length This parameter specifies the length of the table reserved for the command zone. For a TSX 17 or TSX 27 type station, it is limited to 12 words, for whichever type of operator panel is used :
. one word for commanding the operator panel indicator lamps,
. one word for the number of the status message group to be displayed,
. up to 10 words for status messages (one word per message).
For the remaining types of station, status message words are limited to
4 per line on the operator panel. The length of the zone is therefore limited to18 words for a CCX 17-20 (one indicator lamp command word, one word for the group number and 4 lines x 4 words for messages) and to
34 for a CCX 17-30 (one indicator lamp command word, one word for the group number and 8 lines x 4 words for messages).

Write acknowledgment
When dialogue is via shared memory, these check boxes enable the use of :
. the response to a display zone (read acknowledgment), and/or
. the response to an entry zone (write acknowledgment).
Depending on which type of acknowledgement has been confirmed, the
PLC must have a memory space which is twice (one type of acknowledgement confirmed) or three times (both types of acknowledgement confirmed) the length of the command zone.
___________________________________________________________________________
5/16
Using PL7-MMI 17 software 5
For a ROW-type command zone, management of acknowledgements
(read/write) uses 6 RIW-type words :
. RIWi,0,1 : acknowledge alarms,
. RIWi,0,2 : acknowledge indicator lamps in read mode,
. RIWi,0,3 : acknowledge the group number in read mode
. RIWi,0,4 : acknowledge messages in read or/and write mode,
. RIWi,0,5 : acknowledge messages in read or/and write mode,
. RIWi,0,6 : acknowledge messages in read or/and write mode,
. RIWi,0,7 : acknowledge messages in read or/and write mode.
Example
• The operator panel used is a CCX 17-30L.
• It must write its report word to the PLC internal word W250 (symbol Table_8).
• The alarm zone starts at internal word B200 (symbol Alarm_2) and has a length of
10 bits.
• The user wishes to display up to 20 status messages, thus the command zone has a length of 20 + 2 = 22 internal words and starts at word W100 (symbol St_12). The acknowledgments on read and write are requested. The total length of the word table used in the PLC is thus 66 words (3 * 22).

5.2-3 Configuring the device
This function enables definition of the devices (the PLC and two others) which can communicate with a CCX 17 operator panel connected on a FIPIO fieldbus.
This function is accessed from the initial program screen by selecting the Application/
Configure/Device function.
This screen enables entry of :
• the name (maximum of 10 characters) assigned to the PLC device,
• the names of two other devices which can communicate with the CCX 17,
• the connection point of each of these two devices on the FIPIO bus.
• the length of requests supported by the device with two predefined values (128 and
32),
• the possibility of optimizing requests (the device supports 36H and 37H requests to read / write word string, bits or word bits).
When creating status messages, alarm messages or when assigning the command keys, the user must indicate the name of the device with which he wishes to communicate in the Device cells of the relevant entry screens. In this case, only the PLC address can be used to identify a variable.
Devices connected on FIPIO must include a UNI-TE server to process V5 requests, to be accessed directly by the CCX17.
___________________________________________________________________________
5/18
Using PL7-MMI 17 software 5
Rules for optimizing requests
If the CCX 17 has to display several messages each containing a variable, these variables are read as a single request. The same type of processing requires several requests to be sent if optimization is not requested.
It is possible to send a single request (per object type) to access the following objects :
• B0, B100 and B480.
• W0,0 to W59,F.
• W0, W1, W2 and W59.
• DW0, DW10 and DW29.

5.3
Creating status messages
5.3-1 Principles of data entry
After starting PL7-MMI 17 software, click on this icon or select the Screen/
Status Messages function. A window is displayed containing a spreadsheet in which all the status message parameters of the application can be described :
As not all of the parameters to be entered can fit on the screen, a horizontal scroll bar enables those columns which are hidden to be accessed. This presentation has the advantage of displaying data relating to several messages on the same screen, but does require that the spreadsheet be moved to be able to see the entire message.
Entering data
Data is entered field by field.
• The active cell is surrounded by a rectangle.
• The entry cursor is a blinking rectangle.
• The arrow keys, the TAB key or the Enter key as well as the mouse can be used to move from one field to another. The cut, copy and paste functions can also be used.
• A space or double-click on a field places the cursor at the end of the entry field.
• Clicking on a field and then entering characters deletes the line and confirms the entry.
• Pressing the Esc key when entering fields cancels the modifications.
If an error is detected in a field, a message indicating the cause(s) of the error is displayed at the top of the screen.
Position of the message text
The position of a message on a line is defined by selecting its display column. It is therefore possible to use the Screen/Message Position function to center or align the message to the left or to the right. This function is accessible after having selected the
5/20
Using PL7-MMI 17 software 5
Comment :
Fields are usually entered one after the other according to their position in the spreadsheet. Moving from one field to another automatically confirms the previous selection. Depending on the type of status message requested, one or more errors may be flagged to the user if not all the data relating to the status message is entered. Moving from one message to the next is only possible if no error has been detected.
Fast entry
A dialog box, which can be activated by double-clicking on the number of the status message or by pressing the Ctrl TAB keys (the cursor then looks like a magnifying glass) enables all the status message parameters to be entered and displayed. This dialog box is used in the rest of this manual.
Entering data in each of the fields is simplified by pulldown menus detailing the various choices available for the parameter selected.
Data is entered field by field. The TAB key or the mouse can be used to move from one field to another.
Unlike the presentation on the previous page, moving from one field to another does not confirm the last entry.
All parameters entered are taken into account when the screen is confirmed. This is the point at which any error messages are displayed.
This screen can only be confirmed when all errors have been corrected.

• RKB : Used with mailbox communication, this parameter indicates to the CCX 17 operator panel that a value must be entered by the user.
• PMH : Sends the status message log to print.
• PAM : Sends the alarm message log to print in chronological order.
Defines the type of parameter field (entered or displayed) associated with the message. The possible choices are :
• NON : No field is associated with the message displayed.
• BIT : The message is associated with a bit type field.
• ANA : The message is associated with a 16-bit integer field.
• LNG : The message is associated with a 32-bit integer field.
This type is valid for ROW. Two consecutive elements are read in the
CCX 17.
• STR : The message is associated with a word string or to a floating point number (see for example section 5.3-7).
• LST : The message is associated with a word type index.
• DAY : The message is associated with the current date.
• HOU : The message is associated with the current time (the date and time are periodically synchronized to the PLC).
Specifies the name of the device to which the variable to be read is assigned. The devices which can communicate with the CCX 17 are defined by the Application/Configure/Device function. This function is only available when the CCX 17 is connected on a FIPIO fieldbus (if it is connected on a UNI-TELWAY bus, it can only communicate with the master).
___________________________________________________________________________
5/23
Variable
Symbol
Specifies the address of the variable already associated with the message. When communicating with the PLC, if the symbol associated with the variable exists in the station database, it is taken into account automatically when the screen is confirmed. If not, the terminal suggests running the database in order to update it. The variables are as follows :
• bit objects (internal bits Bi, word extract bits Wi,j in read only), ROW bits,
• word objects (internal words Wi or internal double words DWi),
• OFB elements (OFB constants, OFB data, input or output parameters, etc.)
• ROW objects specific to FIPIO communication.
Specifies the symbol for the variable associated with the message. If the symbol entered is not defined in the station database, the terminal suggests running the database in order to update it. If the symbol already exists, the variable associated with the symbol is taken into account automatically when the screen is confirmed.
When communicating with a device other than a PLC and when a database is not available, this field cannot be used.
Comment
Type
Displays the comment for the variable associated with the message
(for information purposes only). It is defined in the station database.
Specifies the message display format :
• N : None.
• A : ASCII format.
• D : Decimal format.
• B : Bargraph format (the user must define the display limits of the bargraph).
Sign Specifies whether the variable to be displayed is signed.
A signed internal word has a value between -32,767 and +32,767, otherwise it is between 0 and 65,535.
An signed double internal word has a value between
-2,147,483,647 and +2,147,483,647, if not it is between
0 and 4,294,967,295.
Length / Decimal places
If the display format is Decimal, decimal places specifies the number of digits to display after the decimal point. If the display format is
ASCII, decimal places is replaced by Length and specifies the number of consecutive words to be read.
Display limits Provides access to a dialog box which enables the range of authorized values for the variable to be determined.

Type
Entry limits
Specifies whether the variable contained in the message must be updated periodically when it is displayed.
Specifies the type of data entry associated with the variable :
• N : None.
• I : Incremental entry (the user must define the increment value and the entry limits). On the CCX 17 operator panel, a parameter value is modified by pressing the left and right arrow keys.
• L : Normal entry using numeric keys.
• V : Entry of predefined values.
Provides access to a dialog box used to select :
• the entry limits and the increment value for an incremental entry,
• the entry limits for a Free style entry.
Predefined values
Gives access to a dialog box in order to predefine a list of possible values (this choice is only possible for entering Predefined Values).
These values are arranged in ascending order. 16 values maximum.

5.3-3 Request to display a message
If the user simply wishes to display a message containing alphanumeric characters, only those fields relating to the display need to be filled in (text, attribute, size and position) and, if required, a command assigned to the message.
Example :
Data :
• "End of cycle" message displayed in reverse video, double width and double height on line 4 and starting at column 13.
• The message must be accompanied by the clear line command.
Parameter selection :
• As the message must be accompanied by the clear line command, the Command field is therefore CLL.
• This message does not need any particular data from the PLC, nor any intervention by the operator, thus the field type is NON : None.
The screen corresponding to this example is as follows :

5.3-4 Request to display a message comprising a variable
To display a message comprising a value issued by the process, the user fills in the fields relating to :
• the display (text, attribute, size and position) and, if required, a command assigned to the message,
• the characteristics of the variable to be displayed (displaying a floating point variable is described in section 5.3-7).
Example :
Data :
• "Oven 4 Temperature = xxx.xx
°
C" message displayed, where xxx.xx represents the temperature value (the value must comprise five digits with two after the decimal point).
• The temperature value is shown in the PLC word W110 (or ROW).
• The display is in normal mode and standard size on line three starting at column one.
• No command is assigned to the message.
Parameter selection :
• Since this message requires data from the PLC, data relating to the field type must be made available.
• The message text must include an indication of the field size of the value displayed.
The conventional method is to represent each expected character by an underscore
"_". Thus, in this example, the message text must include six underscores (five for the number itself plus one for the decimal point).
• The field type is ANA (16-bit word) and the variable is updated periodically.
• The display format is Decimal with two digits after the decimal point (decimal places = 2). If, for example, the contents of W110 is 12345, the display on the operator panel is 123.45.
The screen corresponding to this example is as follows :

5/27
5.3-5 Request to display a message with entry of a process value
To display a message comprising a value issued by the process and which needs to be modified by the operator, the designer fills in the fields relating to :
• the display (text, attribute, size and position) and, if required, a command assigned to the message,
• the characteristics of the variable to be displayed,
• the entry format.
Example :
Data :
• "motor rotation speed = xxxx tr/mm" message displayed, where xxxx represents the rotation speed of the motor (the expected value must therefore contain four decimal digits).
• The rotation speed of the motor is specified in PLC word W55.
• The display is in blinking mode and standard size on line 2 starting at column 6.
• The entry made by the operator must be incremental (in steps of 100 rpm between
1000 and 3000 rpm).
Parameter selection :
• Since this message requires data from the PLC and an entry by the operator, data relating to the field type and the entry format must be made available.
• The message text must include an indication of the field size of the value displayed.
The conventional method is to represent each expected character by an underscore
"_". Thus, in this example, the message text must include four underscores.
• The field type is ANA (16-bit internal word).
• The refresh option must be selected.
• The display format must be Decimal with no digits after the decimal point.
• The entry type must be incremental.
• The entry limits must be 1000 for the minimum limit and 3000 for the maximum limit.
• The increment value must be 100 rpm.
Note :
When mailbox communication is used and the message comprises an operator entry, the Command field must be RKB.

5.3-6 Request to display a character string
To display a character string issued by the process, the user fills in the fields relating to :
• the display (text, attribute, size and position) and, if required, a command assigned to the message,
• the characteristics corresponding to this string.
Example :
Data :
• "Parameters = xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" message displayed, where xxx... represents a character string (the string is 10 words long and starts at PLC word W60 (or ROW)).
• The display is in normal mode and standard size on line one starting at column one
(no command is assigned to the message).
Parameter selection :
• Since the display of a character string requires data from the PLC, data relating to the field type must be made available.
• The text must include an indication of the field size of the value displayed. The conventional method is to represent each expected character by an underscore "_".
Thus, in this example, the message text must include 20 underscores (two characters per internal word).
• The field type must be STR (String).
• The display format must be ASCII.
• The length of the character string must be 10 words.
• The refresh option must be selected.
The screen corresponding to this example is as follows :

Using PL7-MMI 17 software 5
5.3-7 Request to display a floating point value
To display a floating point value issued from the process, the user fills in the fields relating to the display (text, attribute, size and position) and, if required, a command assigned to the message.
Important :
• The floating point values must be seen by PL7-MMI 17 as an integer value displayed in decimal. The floating point value from the application must therefore first be scaled to remove the decimal point then converted to an integer (eg, for a value with 2 digits after the decimal point, DW0 * 100 → DW2; FTB(DW2) → DW4).
Example :
Data :
• "Measure = xxx.xx"
°
C message displayed, where xxx... represents the floating point measurement scaled and converted to an integer.
• The display has two digits after the decimal point in normal mode and standard size on line one starting at column one.
Parameter selection :
• Since the display of a floating point value requires data from the PLC, data relating to the field type must be made available.
• The text must include an indication of the field size of the value displayed. The conventional method is to represent each expected character by an underscore "_".
Thus, in this example, the message text must include 6 underscores (five significative digits plus the decimal point).
• The field type must be LNG : 32-bit and decimal type display format.
• The number of digits after the decimal point must be 2.
• The refresh option must be selected.
The screen corresponding to this example is as follows :

5/31
5.3-8 Request messages using a word as an index
It is possible to use a word as an index in a pre-stored message. The operator panel displays the message whose number is contained in the designated word (only the text of this message is displayed). To do this, the user must fill in the fields relating to :
• the display (text, attribute, size and position) and, if required, a command assigned to the message,
• the characteristics relating to this string.
Example :
Data :
• "Color = xxxxx" message displayed, where xxx... is a message pre-stored in the operator panel. The number of the message to be displayed is contained in word
W124. If W124 = 18, the text of message number 18, containing, for example, the text
Red, is displayed after "Color =".
• The display is in reverse video and standard size on line 4 starting at column 10 (no command is assigned to the message).
Parameter selection :
• Displaying an indexed message requires data from the PLC, thus data relating to the field type must be made available.
• The text must include an indication of the field size of the value displayed. The conventional method is to represent each expected character by an underscore "_".
Thus, in this example, the message text must include five underscores.
• The field type must be LST (Message).
• The display format must be ASCII.
• The field length does not need to be filled in.
• The refresh option must be selected.

Type
Signs
Specifies the name of the device to which the variable to be read is assigned. The devices which can communicate with the CCX 17 are defined by the Application/Configure/Device function. This function is only available when the CCX 17 is connected on a FIPIO fieldbus
(if it is connected on a UNI-TELWAY bus, it can only communicate with the master).
Specifies the address of the variable assigned to the alarm message.
When communicating with the PLC, if the symbol assigned to the variable already exists in the station database, it is taken into account automatically when the screen is confirmed. If not, the terminal suggests running the database in order to update it. The variables are as follows :
• bit objects (internal bits Bi, bits extracted from words Wi,j in read only, ROW bits
• word objects (internal words Wi or double internal words DWi).
• ROW objects specific to FIPIO communication.
Specifies the symbol for the variable assigned to the alarm message.
If the symbol entered is not defined in the station database, the terminal suggests running the database. If the symbol already exists, the symbol assigned to the variable is taken into account automatically when the screen is confirmed.
When communicating with a device other than a PLC and when a database is not available, this field cannot be used.
Displays the comment for the variable assigned to the alarm message
(for information purposes only). It defined in the station database.
Specifies the display format of the alarm message. The following choices are available :
• N : None.
• A : ASCII format.
• D : Decimal format.
Specifies whether the variable to be displayed is signed.
A signed internal word has a value between -32,767 and +32,767, otherwise it is between 0 and 65,535.
A signed double internal word has a value between
-2,147,483,647 and +2,147,483,647, if not it is between
0 and 4,294,967,295.
___________________________________________________________________________
5/35
Decimal places / Length
If the display format is Decimal, Decimal Places specifies the number of digits to be displayed after the decimal point. If the display format is ASCII, Decimal Places is replaced by Length and specifies the number of consecutive words to be read.
Comments :
Unlike status messages, not all parameters are used for alarm messages, such as :
• Line : alarm messages are automatically displayed on the second line of the screen.
• Column : alarm messages are automatically displayed on the left side of the screen.
• Attribute : alarm messages are always displayed in normal mode.
• Date and Time : alarm messages are automatically time-stamped.
• Refresh : the variables displayed are never updated in an alarm message.
• Field attribute : this function is invalid because an alarm message can neither be entered nor displayed as a bargraph.
Two examples of alarm messages are given later :
• An alarm message containing text only
• An alarm message displaying a value issued by the process.
Of course, it is possible to have alarm messages which display a character string (STR type field). The display principle is identical to that described for status messages.

5.4-3 Request to display an alarm message
If the user wishes to display an alarm message containing alphanumeric characters, only the fields relating to the display need to be filled in (text, size and type of display).
Example :
Data :
• "Emergency stop" message displayed in double width and double height.
• The message must be displayed on the operator panel screen.
Parameter selection :
• This message does not require any particular data from the PLC, thus the type of field is NON : None.
The screen corresponding to this example is as follows :

5/37
5.4-4 Request to display a message comprising a variable
To display an alarm message followed by a value issued by the process, the user fills in the fields relating to :
• the display (text, size and type of display)
• the characteristics relating to the variable.
Example :
Data :
• "Overheating Oven 4 = xxx.xx
°
C" message displayed, where xxx.xx represents the temperature value (the expected value must therefore comprise five digits with two after the decimal point).
• The CCX 17 is connected to the FIPIO fieldbus at connection point 16, the temperature value is written by the PLC in the third word of the ROW table reserved for this connection point (the address of this word is ROW16,0,2).
• The display is in standard size and the message must be printed in continuous printout.
Parameter selection :
• Since this message requires data from the PLC, data relating to the type of field must be made available.
• The message text must include an indication of the field size of the value displayed.
The conventional method is to represent each expected character by an underscore
"_". Thus, in this example, the message text must include six underscores (five for the number itself plus one for the decimal point).
• The type of field must be ANA (16-bit internal word).
• The display format must be Decimal with two digits after the decimal point
(decimal places = 2). If, for example, the contents of ROW16,0,2 is 12345, the display is 123,45
The screen corresponding to this example is as follows :

Creating status message groups
5.5-1 Principles of data entry and description of the screen
After starting PL7-MMI 17, click on this icon or select the Screen/Message
Groups function. A window is displayed which is used to assign various previously created messages to a group number.
Group number Selects the group number.
And Clear screen
Clears the CCX 17 operator panel screen before the corresponding group is displayed.
Message number
Enables the messages which make up the group to be selected. Data relating to the messages selected (number and content) is displayed in the corresponding box.
A message is inserted in the list above the current line (in reverse video).
The maximum number of groups and the number of messages per group depend on the type of CCX 17 operator panel :
• CCX 17 20 : 50 groups of eight messages maximum
• CCX 17 30 : 100 groups of 16 messages maximum.
An error message is displayed if the maximum number of messages per group is exceeded.

5.5-2 Example of a status message group
Important :
A group can contain several different messages. Thus, the user must take note of the display position (line and column numbers) of each of the messages of the group on-screen to avoid any message being overwritten.

Assigning the operator panel command keys
5.6-1 Principles of data entry and description of the screen
After starting PL7-MMI 17, click on this icon or select the Screen/
Command Keys function.
A window is displayed containing a table which is used to configure the manual command keys for the operator panels (these keys can either be assigned to PLC internal bits, or to RIW word bits or to CCX 17 discrete outputs if they have them). The principles of data entry are identical to those for status messages (for more details, see section 5.3).
Data can be entered using two different screens, one screen in the form of a spreadsheet and the other in the form of a dialog box displaying all the parameters relating to a particular command key (this screen format is used for the rest of this section).

Displays the name of the device to which the variable to be updated is assigned. This name is declared when the device is configured
(see section 5.2-3).
Specifies the address of the internal bit Bi assigned to the key. If the symbol assigned to the bit already exists in the station database, it is taken into account automatically when the screen is confirmed. If not, the terminal suggests running the database in order to update it.

If the symbol already exists, the symbol assigned to the variable is taken into account automatically when the screen is confirmed.
Displays the comment for the variable assigned to the bit (for information purposes only). It is defined in the station database.
Warning :
When a CCX 17 is connected to a FIPIO fieldbus, the command keys not assigned to addresses or symbols are automatically assigned :
• to a bit in the first RIW word corresponding to the connection point when a CCX 17 is connected to a FIPIO fieldbus,
• to the corresponding discrete outputs in the case of CCX 17-20FPS or LPS or
CCX 17-30LPS.
An example of a CCX 17-30LPS on connection point 16 and which does not have a bit assigned to the command keys (variable and symbol fields empty) :
Key n
°
1 is assigned to bit RIW16,0,0,0 as well as to discrete output number 1,
Key n
°
2 is assigned to bit RIW16,0,0,1 as well as to discrete output number 2,
Key n
°
3 is assigned to bit RIW16,0,0,2 as well as to discrete output number 3,
Key n
°
4 is assigned to bit RIW16,0,0,3 as well as to discrete output number 4,
Key n
°
5 is assigned to bit RIW16,0,0,4 as well as to discrete output number 5,
Key n
°
6 is assigned to bit RIW16,0,0,5 as well as to discrete output number 6,
Key n

7 is assigned to bit RIW16,0,0,6 as well as to discrete output number 7,
Key n
°
8 is assigned to bit RIW16,0,0,7 as well as to discrete output number 8.
For any given command key, this principle of automatically assigning to an RIW bit and / or a discrete output is exclusive, with standard assigning of command keys to internal bits in the PLC.

The modifications made using this editor are only shown when the relevant characters are displayed on the CCX 17 operator panel.
The editor is used as follows :
First select the character to be modified, either by entering the character directly via the keyboard, or by scrolling through the list of characters. Once this selection has been made, the character selected then appears in the grid.
An ASCII character is represented by four different combinations :
• The ASCII character has not been modified.
• The ASCII character has been modified by the user in standard size format and retains its default status in double size format.
• The ASCII character has been modified in double size format and retains its default status in standard size format.
• The ASCII character has been modified in standard and double size format.
To meet these requirements, several buttons enable the characters to be modified in each of these modes.
Standard

6.1-3 Application coherence check
This function is run automatically when an existing application is opened (or imported). It ensures that the address-symbol assignments of the MMI application match those of the PLC database. It can also be run at the request of the user by selecting Utilities/Variable Coher-
ence.
Any inconsistencies detected between the station database and data entered in the various PL7-MMI 17 screens (different symbols, etc) are displayed and can be corrected automatically.
The screen is split into two boxes :
The Incoherences box displays any inconsistencies detected.
• Type specifies the type of message where there is inconsistency, denoted by :
- E for status messages
- A for alarm messages
- T for command keys
- C for the symbols and variables used for the Data link configuration.
• Num gives the message reference where there is inconsistency, denoted by :
- STA for the variables-symbol assignment of the status word,
- ALA for the variables-symbol assignments of the alarm field,
- COM for the variables-symbol assignment of the command field,
- the number in the case of status messages, alarm messages, or command keys.
• Symbol and variable indicate that the symbol and the variable are not consistent with the station database.
___________________________________________________________________________
6/4
Additional functions 6
The Corrections box indicates those corrections made by the PL7-MMI 17 program
(the automatic correction procedure is started by pressing the Variable key). There are two types of correction :
• Accepting the symbol shown in the PLC database when it differs from the symbol entered in PL7-MMI 17 (this may, for example, be caused by a modification to the PLC database).
• Creating a symbol assigned to the variable when its symbol does not exist in the PLC database. The symbol created corresponds to the variable preceded by # (or to
MMIxxx for the OFB elements or the ROW).
The data given in this box (Type, Num, etc) has the same meaning as in the Coherence box.
Important :
The corrections made by this function are local to the MMI application and do not modify the station database.
Variable Starts the correction function (with priority for the variable). A message indicates the end of the operation. The Corrections box then displays the modifications made.
Coherence Runs the consistency check again.
Sdbase
OK
Runs the station database so that the user can make the modifications.

Additional functions 6
6.2-3 Remote transfer : Choice of CCX 17 address
Before starting the remote transfer (in whichever direction), the user must specify the address of the operator panel being used. To do this, start the Transfer/Remote/
CCX 17 Address function. The value of this address is directly linked to the type of network on which the programming terminal and the CCX 17 operator panel are connected :
Examples of screens
UNI-TELWAY protocol FIPIO protocol
Operator panel protocol
Specifies the current protocol for the remote operator panel.
PLC address
Specifies the PLC address on which the CCX 17 operator panel is connected, in the form "network number.station number" when the remote PLC is on another network. This field is set by default to the station address. The network number must be between 0 and 127, the station number between 0 and 63 (address 0,254 is also allowed).
CCX 17 address
Only offered if the chosen protocol is UNI-TELWAY, this field specifies the address of the operator panel. There are two possibilities :
• the operator panel is connected via an SCM UNI-TELWAY module, enter the module slot (rack number and module number) and the data link address of the operator panel on the bus plus 100. The
Rack/Module value and the data link address is entered in decimal.
If, for example, the SCM module is installed in rack 4 at slot 1 and the operator panel is connected at data link address 23, the
"Operator panel address" field has the value 65,123 (ie 41 in hexadecimal = 65 in decimal),
• the operator panel is connected via a UNI-TELWAY port integrated into the processor, this field must then only indicate the data link address of the operator panel plus 100.
FIPIO connection point
Only offered if the chosen protocol is FIPIO, this field specifies the
CCX 17 connection point on the FIPIO fieldbus (the possible values are between 1 and 62).
___________________________________________________________________________
6/15
6.2-4 Remote transfer : terminal to CCX 17
This function is started by clicking on this icon or by selecting Transfer/
Remote/Terminal to CCX 17 and enables the current application to be transferred partially or totally via a communication network (MAPWAY,
FIPWAY or ETHWAY type) to the CCX 17 operator panel.
The programming terminal is connected to a PLC architecture element (PLC terminal port, network, etc) and can access, due to the transparent network, all the elements of the architecture.
The active communication driver is specified in the Communication-Driver menu of the initial XTEL or MINI-XTEL main window.
If the user has not specified the CCX 17 address, the screen described in section
6.2-3 is offered.
6.2-5 Remote transfer : CCX 17 to terminal
This function, started by selecting Transfer/Remote/CCX 17 to terminal, enables the complete application contained in the CCX 17 to be transferred to the programming terminal via a communication network (MAPWAY, FIPWAY or ETHWAY type).
The programming terminal is connected to a PLC architecture element (PLC terminal port, network, etc) and can access, due to the transparent network, all the elements of the architecture.
Before starting the transfer, the user must select the address of the operator panel and of the PLC to which it is connected. For more details relating to this procedure, see section 6.2-3.
Once this function has been confirmed, a message indicates to the user that the transfer is in progress. In the same way, if an application is present on the terminal, a message requests confirmation to replace it. To avoid any overwriting, it is recommended that a new application be opened before the transfer is started.

7 Communication via the mailbox
7.1
Programming parameters
Reminders :
Once the PL7-MMI 17 software has loaded the various types of message into the CCX 17 operator panel, the PLC application program can communicate with the operator panel via a mailbox system which uses internal word tables. The various communication principles and acknowledgment mechanisms, for status messages as well as alarm messages, are described in section 4.2. The section below only describes the coding of lamps on the illuminated indicator bank.
Wi
The mailbox used in the PLC word memory enables various commands to be sent to the
CCX 17 operator panel. It contains a command table structured as follows :
Wi Indicator lamp status
Wi+1 Number of group to be displayed
Wi+2 Number of 1st status message to be displayed
Wi+3 Number of 2nd status message to be displayed
Wn
...
...
Number of last status message to be displayed
Both the start of this table and its length are defined by the user when the application is created using PL7-MMI 17 (see section 5.2-2).
Managing the status of lamps on the illuminated indicator bank
The first word in the table assigned to the mailbox zone contains the coding information for each indicator lamp.
• bits 0 to 3 : status of green indicator lamp
• bits 4 to 7 : status of yellow indicator lamp
• bits 8 to 11 : status of red indicator lamp.
The status of these indicator lamps is coded on these four bits as follows :
• 0000 : indicator lamp status unchanged, enabling each indicator lamp to be controlled separately
• 0001 : indicator lamp off
• 0010 : indicator lamp on
• 1111 : indicator lamp flashing.

8.1
List of commands
Reminder :
Once the PL7-MMI 17 software has loaded the various types of message into the CCX 17 operator panel, the PLC application program can communicate with the operator panel by sending specific commands via text function blocks.
TxTi
As a general rule, any command destined for a CCX 17 operator panel is made up of a 16-bit word representing the command number, possibly followed by one or several parameters associated with this command.
Whatever type of command is sent, the CCX 17 operator panel systematically sends a confirmation to the transmission text block (to TXTi,V parameter for PL7-3 language or to TXTi,R parameter for PL7-2 language).
Details on text block parameter coding are given in section 8.2.
The table on the next two pages shows the various options for communication via text blocks and their associated commands.

Communication via text blocks 8
8.2
Programming parameters
8.2-1 Text function block parameters
The text block used must have the following characteristics :
• CPL type LOCAL text block
• TXTi,C = H'00FC' (unsolicited data request)
• TXTi,L = transmission table length, in bytes. The minimum length is one word (for the majority of commands), the maximum length depends on the number of parameters to be sent when using commands to display a status or alarm message issued by the
PLC.
• TXTi,M = CCX 17 operator panel address. This depends on the type of PLC
UNI-TELWAY module :
- If the module is integrated in the processor, TXTi,M must take the hexadecimal value H'FF' followed by the operator panel address (in hexadecimal) + H'64'. If, for example, the operator panel is at address 12 (12 = H'000C'), TXTi,M has the value
H'FF70'.
- If it is a TSX SCM... module, TXTi,M corresponds to the module location (rack and module number) followed by the operator panel address (in hexadecimal) + H'64'.
If, for example, the TSX SCM... module is in rack 0 at slot 5 and the operator panel is at address 6 (6 = H'0006'), TXTi,M has the value H'056A'.
• TXTi,V or TXTi,R contain the request code for operator panel response (H'00FC').
• Transmission table (in bytes) : The first word in the text block transmission table contains the command to be sent (coded in decimal), and the following words are assigned to any parameters which may be associated with the command (for example key number and bit number, etc).
• Reception table (in bytes) : this contains two words (three words in the case of commands 25 and 26, see section 10.1-2) :
- a status word giving the result of the exchange (H'07FE' if the exchange is successful, H'07FD' if unsuccessful),
- an additional status word which goes to 0 if the operation was successful and whose bits at 1 in the event of an error have the following meaning :
Bit 0 = 1 : Command not recognized by the CCX 17,
Bit 1 = 1 : Command buffer full,
Bit 2 = 1 : Command size (in bytes) less than the minimum size required,
Bit 3 = 1 : Command blocked (transfer in progress),
Bit 5 = 1 : Invalid command.

(command number = 6).
• The following words must contain the text of the message to be sent, including the underscores "_" representing the expected characters when a variable is displayed or entered. This text can have a maximum of 40 characters.
If the text has an odd number of characters, the last byte equals 0, if the text has an even number of characters and has less than 40 characters, the last word must take the value 0.
• A word which contains the number of the line where the message must be displayed.
• A word which contains the number of the column where the start of the message must be displayed.
• A zone of four characters (two words) containing the message characteristics and structured as follows :

S = standard size
D = double height and double width
- the third character (in upper case) corresponds to the printing option :
Y = yes
N = no
- the fourth character must be a blank (space).
If the user does not wish to display a variable, the next word must be at 0 (in this case the rest of the parameters are ignored), otherwise, the following parameters must be added :
• A word which contains the position of the variable to be displayed, counted according to the number of characters relative to the start of the message (standard or double characters).
• A word which contains the number of characters to be displayed.

9.2-2 Exchanges via mailbox
Managing the status messages
In the example shown, the mailbox structure is as follows :
Command table
W200 Status of the indicator lamps
W201 No. of the group to be displayed
W202 No. of the 1st message to be displayed
W203 No. of the 2nd message to be displayed
...

W209 No. of the last message to be displayed
Acknowledge on read table
W210 Status of the indicator lamps displayed
W211 No. of the group displayed
W212 No. of the 1st message displayed
W213 No. of the 2nd message displayed
...
...
W219 No. of the last message displayed
The application program contained in the PLC must therefore update the command table according to the process parameters. The user can check that the requested commands have been correctly executed by analyzing the acknowledge on read table.
Examples of commands :
<Displaying group 2
! IF B10 THEN 2
→
W201; ....
<Managing the Run key (shown by the green indicator lamp)
! IF B0 THEN H'011F'

<Managing the Stop key (shown by the red indicator lamp)
! IF B2 THEN H'0F11'
→
W200; RESET B0; ....
Managing the alarm messages
The table reserved for the alarm messages starts at B200 :
• Setting bit B200 to 1 displays and prints alarm message 1 (Emergency stop).
• Setting bit B201 to 1 displays and prints alarm message 2 (Overheating oven 4 : ---
°
C).
• Setting bit B202 to 1 displays and prints alarm message 3 (Insufficient humidity : ---%).

9.2-3 Exchanges via text blocks
Once the whole application is configured by PL7-MMI 17, the user can, if he wishes, choose text function block communication instead of mailbox communication (example below). These two types of communication can be used in the same application.
Assigning the text function blocks :
• TXT0 is assigned to display group 2.
• TXT1 is assigned to manage the command keys.
• TXT2 is assigned to manage the alarm messages.
The parameters are indicated in the following configuration screen (for communication via UNI-TELWAY) :
Reminders :
Parameter TXTi,M has the value H'xxyy' where xx corresponds to location of the communication module. Where an SCI link is integrated into the processor or in the case of a FIPIO fieldbus it takes the value H'FF'. The parameter yy represents the CCX 17 address, it has the following values :
• Either the CCX 17 link address + H'64' if communicating via UNI-TELWAY.
• Or the CCX 17 connection point number + H'64' if communicating via FIPIO.
The parameter TXTi,C takes the value H'00FC'.
Displaying message group 2
The example shown comprises two groups. Group 1 is displayed automatically
(displayed by default). Displaying group 2 is requested via TXT0 as follows :
___________________________________________________________________________
9/12
Application examples 9
• Reception table : starts at internal word W50 and is 4 bytes long,
• Transmission table : starts at word W52 and comprises two words (4 bytes long). The first word (W52) contains the display group command (command 5) and the second word contains the number of the group to be displayed (W53 = 2).
<Display group 2
! IF RE(I0,0) THEN 5
→
W52; 2
→
W53; EXCHG TXT0;
If an error occurs when the text block is transmitted, the reception table contains two words enabling the source of the error to be defined (see section 8.2-1).
Managing the Run and Stop keys
The example shown comprises two command keys. Displaying the luminous indicator lamps is requested via TXT1 as follows :
• Reception table : starts at internal word W60 and is four bytes long.
• Transmission table : starts at word W62 and comprises two words (4 bytes long). The first word (W62) contains the command to display the luminous indicator lamps
(command 8), and the display is coded in word W63.
<Managing the Run key
! IF B0 THEN 8
→
W62; H'011F'
→
W63; EXCHG TXT1;....
<Managing the Stop key
! IF B2 THEN 8
→
W62; H'0F11'
→
W63; EXCHG TXT1;....
If an error occurs when the text block is transmitted, the reception table contains two words enabling the source of the error to be defined (see section 8.2-1).
Managing the alarm messages
An alarm message is activated and deactivated via TXT2 as follows :
• Reception table : starts at internal word W70 and is four bytes long.
• Transmission table : starts at word W72 and comprises two words (4 bytes long). The first word (W72) contains either the command to activate the alarm (command 27) or the command to deactivate the alarm (command 29). The alarm number (eg alarm
2) to be displayed is coded in word W73.
<Managing activation of alarm 2
! IF RE(I0,1) THEN 27
→
W72; 2
→
W73; EXCHG TXT2;....
<Managing deactivation of alarm 2
! IF FE(I0,1) THEN 29
→
W72; 2
→
W73; EXCHG TXT2;....
If an error occurs when the text block is transmitted, the reception table contains two words enabling the source of the error to be defined (see section 8.2-1).

9.3
Application configured without PL7-MMI 17
9.3-1 Exchanges via text function block
When PL7-MMI 17 software is not available to the user, the PLC can still communicate with the CCX 17 operator panel. Communication is only performed via text function block
(see command details in section 8.2). The transmission table must contain all the parameters of the message to be sent.
Important : The transmission table for the text function blocks used on TSX 17 and
TSX 47-20 PLCs is limited to 30 bytes.
So as not to complicate this example, only the display of message number four
(Setpoint = ----
°
C) is shown below. This message is representative since it includes an updated variable which can be modified by the operator (incremental entry).
The text block used to send this message is TXT3. Its parameters are indicated below :
• TXT3,M = H'FF65' (CCX 17 address link = 1) for communication via UNI-TELWAY.
If communicating via FIPIO, TXT3,M = 'FF74' (CCX 17 connection point = 16, or H'10'
+ H'FF64' = H'FF74').
• Reception table : starts at internal word W80 and is four bytes long.
• Transmission table : starts at word W82 and includes 34 words (72 bytes long). The first word (W82) contains the status message display command (command 6), and the other words correspond to the message characteristics. The transmission table is detailed on the following page.
Reminder of the message 4 characteristics
Setpoint = ----
