1 Introduction
The TBX SAP 10 gateway presented in this document is used to connect the AS-i sensor-actuator bus, via the FIPIO network, to PLCs in the following ranges :
• TSX model 40
• APRIL 5000
• Premium
This module is integrated in a distributed architecture, based on the FIPIO network, and can be used to decentralize I/O at the lowest control system level.
This user manual is set out in the following way :
Part A "Presentation" briefly describes the AS-i bus and certain components. The main functions of the TBX SAP 10 are given, together with its technical characteristics.
Part B "Hardware Setup" describes the module power supply, AS-i connection, connection to the FIPIO network and the pinout.
Part C "Use with PL7" presents gateway integration, programming and diagnostics using PL7 programming software on Premium PLCs.

2 Main Characteristics of the AS-i Bus
AS-i is a system which manages exchanges using one master alone. By scanning the
AS-i bus, it calls each detected slave in turn and waits for its response. It is the interface between the AS-i bus and the PLC.
The serial communication frame is composed of :
• 4 data bits (D0 to D3)
• 4 parameter-setting bits (P0 to P3)
The address of the slave involved is coded on 5 bits.
In the AS-i master request, the outputs are set to positions, and in the slave request, the inputs are fed back.
Bits P0 to P3 are used for "intelligent" sensors integrating the AS-i asic, the operation of which can be modified during use.
A
Slave addressing :
Each slave connected to the AS-i bus has an address from 1 to 31 (coded on 5 bits).
The supplied slaves have address 0 (address memorized in the read-only slave memory).
This address is programmed using a special addressing terminal.
Slave identification :
All slave devices connected to the AS-i bus are identified by an I/O Code and an
Identification code, which enables the AS-i master to recognize the configuration present on the bus.
These profiles have been drawn up by the AS-i association and they are used to distinguish the input modules, output modules, mixed modules, and "intelligent" devices, etc.
Maximum number of I/O :
An AS-i bus can have a maximum of 31 slaves. The AS-i communication frame comprises 4 data bits. The AS-i master writes the outputs in its request, the AS-i slave feeds back the input status in its response.
Thus, a maximum of 124 inputs + 124 outputs, or 248 binary I/O can be managed, when only active splitter blocks are used.
An AS-i bus can only support 31 "intelligent" slaves since these devices must use 4 data bits (D0 to D3).
AS-i cable :
The AS-i cable is a two-wire link which transmits the communication and power supply of the connected devices. The link does not need to be shielded or twisted, the wire cross-section can be 2 x 1.5 mm 2 or 2 x 2.5 mm 2 , depending on the current consumed by the devices.
2/1
A
Maximum length of the AS-i bus :
The tree structure of the AS-i bus uses each point of the link as the start of a new branch.
The total length of all the segments may be up to 100 m without repeater and 300 m with a maximum of two repeaters.
AS-i bus scan time :
The AS-i system always sends information of an identical length to each slave on the bus. The AS-i scan time depends on the number of slaves connected to the bus (when
31 slaves are present, this time will be a maximum of 5 ms).
However, this scan time must not be confused with the response time of the
TBX SAP 10 module over the FIPIO network in relation to the PLC.
Reliability, flexibility :
The transmission process used (current modulation) ensures reliable operation. The master monitors the line voltage and the transmitted data. It detects transmission errors as well as slave malfunctions and transmits this information to the PLC. The user can thus react to messages sent.
Exchange or connection of a new slave during operation does not disturb communication in progress with the other slaves.
2/2
3 TBX SAP 10 Operating Principle
3.1
Master Profiles
The AS-i system operates according to the master-slave principle. The AS-i master controls data exchanges with a maximum of 31 slaves. The specifications for the AS-i master establish a distinction between masters depending on the number of services proposed (definition of profiles). There are three master profiles (M0, M1, M2). The AS-i specifications clearly define the functions that a master should possess in a given profile.
Three levels (or profiles) of AS-i master functions can be distinguished :
Profile M0 : «Minimum Master»
The master exchanges data with the various slaves. The master adopts the configuration of the slaves connected to the bus on power-up as the configuration for the AS-i bus, and offers the minimum I/O management functions.
Profile M1 : «Full Master»
This profile covers the full range of functions defined in the AS-i master specifications.
Profile M2 : «Reduced Master»
This profile is the same as profile M0 with the additional possibility of setting the slave parameters.
For a TBX SAP 10, the profile used is M2 with the additional possibility of feeding back diagnostic information to the PLC.

Structure of an AS-i Slave
The AS-i slave is equipped with an integrated circuit for connection to the AS-i bus. The integrated circuit comprises :
• 4 configurable data I/O
• 4 slave parameter states
The other operating parameters, configuration data with I/O assignment, identification codes and address are saved in a read-only memory.

The outputs are destined for control system components and are transmitted by the AS-i master to the AS-i slave. Input values are memorized by the AS-i slave and are made available to the master.
Parameters :
The AS-i slave parameter states enable the AS-i master to transmit those values which are not interpreted as I/O data.
These parameters may be used for controlling and switching sensor or actuator internal operating modes.
Examples : motor start circuit : high or low rotation speed, start-up, stopping, etc.
proximity detectors : range, clearing background, etc.
One might envisage using these parameters to correct a calibration value during the different phases of operation. This function can be performed on slaves with an integrated AS-i connection providing they support this function. Only a master with profile M1 or M2 can modify these parameters.

TBX SAP 10 Operating Principle 3
A
Configuration / Identification
The I/O configuration (or I/O Code) defines the data of the AS-i slave used as inputs, outputs or bidirectional outputs.
The I/O configuration (4 bits) is defined by the slave manufacturer and is specified in the documentation for this slave.
The type of AS-i slave (or Identification Code) is defined by the I/O configuration and also by an identification code. The latter is coded by each slave on 4 bits. It is also specific to the manufacturer and outlined in the documentation.
The slave address on delivery is address 0. So that data exchange is possible, slaves must be programmed with an address between 1 and 31. Address 0 is reserved for special functions.
3.3
PLC - TBX SAP 10 - AS-i Slaves Architecture
So that the PLC can access the information structure of an AS-i slave, the TBX SAP 10 must integrate the data fields and manage the lists defined below :

A
Initialization
The master is initialized on every power-up or during operation when it changes from
"Configuration" mode to " Protected" mode. During this initialization which lasts around
1 second, the images of the AS-i bus inputs and outputs are all at 0, as seen from the
PLC application.
Start-up
Detection phase : Recognition of connected slaves
The AS-i master scans the AS-i bus to detect the number of slaves present, the addresses occupied and the identification of each device.
The detected slaves are entered in the LDS (list of detected slaves) and the Identification Codes in the Configuration/Identification table of the AS-i bus.
If no slaves are detected on the AS-i bus, the AS-i master remains in this phase and waits for the presence of a device before changing to the activation phase.
Slave activation phase :
After identifying the devices connected on the AS-i bus, these may be activated
(rendered usable) by a specific call from the AS-i master. The activation of detected slaves depends on the operating mode of the AS-i master :
• configuration mode : All the slaves detected on the AS-i bus are activated. This mode is primarily used to save the actual configuration of the AS-i bus to the reference configuration (simplified method for programming the desired configuration).
• protected mode : Only slaves whose identification conforms to that contained in the reference configuration are activated.
The activated slaves are entered in the LAS (list of activated slaves).
Nominal operation
Data exchange phase
The master cyclically transmits data (output data) to the various slaves and receives in return acknowledgment messages (data as inputs). In the event of a transmission error, the master repeats the call.
The scan time for interrogating all the slaves on an AS-i line is less than 5 ms.
3/6
TBX SAP 10 Operating Principle 3
A
Management phase
It is during this phase that :
• the slave parameters are modified
• the self-addressing function is executed
• the AS-i bus configuration is saved to the reference configuration
• all instructions apart from cyclical data exchanges are transmitted
Save phase
It is during this phase that the LDS and LAS lists are managed on connection or disappearance of a device on the AS-i bus. A newly connected slave is entered in the
LDS (list of detected slaves) and activated then entered in the LAS (list of activated slaves) depending on the AS-i master operating mode.
A faulty slave disappears from the LDS and the LAS and causes a configuration fault.

4 Components of an AS-i System
4.1
AS-i Splitter Blocks
AS-i defines a concept of modular interconnection of subscribers via modules known as splitter blocks.
They provide the link between the sensors or actuators and the AS-i bus.
These compact modules (45mm x 45mm x 80mm approx.) are connected via the AS-i cable.
Their degree of protection is IP67.
A distinction is made between :
• active splitter blocks (integrating the asic for the AS-i bus)
These are used to connect up to four standard sensors/actuators to the same AS-i address using standard M12 sockets (pinout conforming to DIN standard IEC 947
5-2).
This type of splitter block is very popular in upgrading existing machines because it avoids intervention on the installation.
• passive splitter blocks (not integrating the asic for the AS-i bus)
These are used to connect up to four sensors/actuators integrating the AS-i asic
(intelligent sensors) using standard M12 sockets (pinout conforming to DIN standard
IEC 947 5-2).
This type of splitter block can be used for new machines but it has the disadvantage of using four AS-i addresses.
Examples : motor starters, photo-electric cells, proximity sensors, etc.
These splitter blocks comprise :
• a connection interface with M12 sockets as well as indicator LEDs.
The diagram opposite shows a connection interface with 2 inputs - 2 outputs; other interfaces are available (4 inputs, 4 outputs, etc).
A
Caution : the I/O channels of certain slaves are numbered from 1 to 4 (for example
I-1, I-2, O-3, O-4) whereas channels in the PLC are always numbered from 0 to 3.
example of correspondence :
I-1 corresponds to %I....\n,0 channel 0 of the slave
I- 2 corresponds to %I....\n,1 channel 1 of the slave

"Intelligent" Sensors
These sensors, integrating the AS-i asic, can be directly connected to the AS-i bus or to a passive splitter block module; they have, being an AS-i bus slave, 4 parametersetting bits (P0 to P3) which enable information to be written such as time delay, field depth settings, etc.
Each of these "intelligent" slaves is accompanied by documentation describing the use of parameters P0 to P3, the default value of these parameters, the AS-i profile used, etc.

AS-i Power Supplies
Special features:
The simultaneous transmission of data and energy on a single cable requires data transmission to be filtered in relation to the power supply. For this reason the AS-i power supply integrates a decoupling filter which supports the maximum DC current from the power supply. The power supply has a standardized impedance in relation to the data transmission frequencies. These AS-i power supplies can be placed at any point on the AS-i bus, but it is advisable to place them as close as possible to areas of high energy consumption. They are 30 VDC power supplies designed to communicate over 100m.
When actuators consuming high levels of energy are present, this block should be augmented by an auxiliary supply to handle the contactor coils.

AS-i Cables
The AS-i cable, comprising a non-shielded, non-twisted pair, simultaneously transmits communication data and the power supply (30 Vdc) :
• to sensors and actuators connected to the splitter block modules (for actuators which consume large amounts of energy, a conventional auxiliary power supply is necessary)
• to "intelligent" sensors
• to the TBX SAP 10 analog interface
It is possible to use any traditional standard cable (type H05VV) with a cross-section
1.5 to 2.5 mm 2 (depending on the consumption of all slaves) with splitter blocks integrating screw terminals.
Using the special AS-i ribbon cable has the advantage of enabling immediate connection to AS-i slaves, with an automatic locating device, using "vampire" clip technology. (See AS-i reference manual : XDOC5511•)

5 TBX SAP 10 Functions (AS-i Master)
In addition to managing the I/O, the TBX SAP 10 (AS-i master) M2 profile enables :
• parameter-setting of "intelligent" slaves
• selection of the AS-i bus reference configuration
• change of operating mode
As with any device connected to the FIPIO network, diagnostics information is available.
The TBX SAP 10 has a display block enabling the feedback of diagnostic information on its own status and that of the AS-i bus.
A
5.1
Reading AS-i Bus Inputs
With a maximum of 31 slaves on the AS-i bus, the TBX SAP 10 is capable of feeding back the state of 124 discrete inputs to the PLC.
Information is fed back cyclically to the PLC on the FIPIO network.
An indication of the validity of the AS-i bus input information is also available in the PLC program; it indicates whether the TBX SAP 10 is ready for operation or not.
5.2
Writing AS-i Bus Outputs
With a maximum of 31 slaves on the AS-i bus, the TBX SAP 10 is capable of writing 124 discrete outputs on the AS-i bus.
Information is transported cyclically on the FIPIO network to the TBX SAP 10.
Note
Slave outputs are written before inputs are read.
5/1
A
5.3
Configuring the AS-i Bus
Whatever the TBX SAP 10 operating mode, it constantly compares the actual configuration of the AS-i bus with the reference configuration.
In the event of inconsistency, a configuration fault is signalled to the PLC.
This reference configuration is obtained by configuration in X-TEL, ORPHEE or PL7, or by saving the actual configuration of the AS-i bus at a given moment.
5/2
TBX SAP 10 Functions (AS-i Master) 5
A
5.4
Changing the TBX SAP 10 Operating Mode
In nominal operation, the TBX SAP 10 can run in one of two modes :
• "Configuration" mode
• "Protected" mode
In "Configuration" mode, all slaves detected on the network are activated and can be used directly.
A configuration fault is fed back to the PLC if the actual configuration on the AS-i bus is not the same as the reference configuration. However, non-conforming slaves will still be activated and can still be used.
In this mode, the self-addressing function can not be used.
This mode is used during installation and for starting a machine, especially in order to test all the devices.
It is not possible to change to "Protected" mode if one of the slaves on the AS-i bus has the address 0.
In "Protected" mode, only those slaves present on the AS-i bus, whose identification is identical to that contained in the reference configuration, are activated.
In this mode, the self-addressing function is available.
Changing from "Configuration" mode to "Protected" mode causes the complete reinitialization of TBX SAP 10 which lasts for approximately 1 second, and sets all the AS-i bus I/O to 0.
In addition to these two modes is "Diagnostics" mode which enables the lists of detected slaves (LDS), projected slaves (LPS) in the reference configuration and activated slaves (LAS) on the AS-i bus, to be fed back to the PLC.
Caution
In this mode, these lists replace the state of the AS-i bus inputs; they must not however be taken into account in the application program, since the outputs of the AS-i bus continue to be controlled.
5.5
Setting Parameters for "Intelligent" Slaves
Parameters can be set for some AS-i slaves (limit switches, photo-electric cells). The adjustment parameters for each slave can be alarms, test signals, tripping time delays, range lengths. The TBX SAP 10 can be used to modify the value of each of these parameters during operation to adapt to changes in the installation. It detects values modified by the PLC and sends new values to the slaves concerned.
5/3
A
5.6
Changing a Faulty Slave
When the TBX SAP 10 is operating in "Protected" mode, the self-addressing function can be used in the event of failure of a single slave on the AS-i bus.
When the user intervenes to change the slave (a slave is always factory-set with the address 0), the master detects the new device with address 0. If its identification corresponds to the projected device , the master will automatically assign it a new address which was that of the faulty device.
This offers the advantage of being able to rapidly locate a malfunction and to intervene on the installation without having to use special equipment.
If several slaves fail, the master can no longer automatically assign the addresses to the new device and the address of each slave has to be programmed using the programmer before connecting them to the ASI bus.
5.7
Diagnostics Information Feedback
The TBX SAP 10 is capable of cyclically feeding back diagnostics information on its own status and that of the AS-i bus.
This information can be used in the PLC program in order to manage the I/O correctly.
The TBX SAP 10 display block comprises :
• 4 standard LEDs for FIPIO devices (RUN, DEF, COM, I/O) indicating the overall operating status
• a matrix of 32 LEDs associated with the AS-i bus addresses indicating the status of the connected devices

2 TBX SAP 10 Module Power Supply
The TBX SAP 10 AS-i master needs to be supplied directly from a 24V or 48V DC voltage source, isolated from ground at 1500V rms.
Using this external source has the advantage of being able to cut the power supply to the AS-i bus without interrupting communication between the PLC and the TBX SAP
10.
For sites without mains power, TELEMECANIQUE offers a power supply module reference TBX SUP 10 supplying a 24V / 1A DC voltage. This supplies the necessary power for several TBX modules.
The power dissipated by the TBX SAP 10 module is 2 W.

FIPIO Addressing for AS-i Module
A TBX SAP 10 AS-i master on the FIPIO network can be identified by its connection point.
The connection point number represents the physical address of the AS-i module on the FIPIO network and can take a value between 1 and 62.
On FIPIO, address 0 is reserved for the PLC (TSX model 40 or APRIL 5000) which is the bus manager. Address 63 is reserved for the programming terminal.
The FIPIO address for the AS-i master module is configured via micro-switches located on the top of the TBX BLP 01 connector used for connection to the bus.
These micro-switches, of which there are 8, enable binary coding as indicated below, for a maximum of 62 devices per architecture.

Example for coding at address 62 (use of addresses 64 to 256 is reserved).
Modification of the address is only taken into account after power-down/power-up of the TBX SAP 10. If the address is modified whilst the TBX SAP 10 is powered up, this causes an internal fault and disconnection from the FIPIO network.

1 Integration using PL7
1.1
Selecting the TBX SAP 10 Gateway
After selecting the File / New window from the bar, select the processor for the new device : C
The processors which have an integrated FIPIO link are :
TSX P 57252 / 57352 / 57452, TPMX P57352 / 452, or TPCX P573512.
Confirming this window opens the Application Browser. Selecting "Hardware
Configuration" accesses a representation of a configuration with the FIPIO bus connection integrated in the processor. Opening an existing application opens the browser directly .
1/1
C
Double-clicking on the representation of the processor FIPIO connector opens a window showing by default a minimum structure of the FIPIO bus.
Grayed-out rectangles on the bus indicate the two reserved addresses : 0 for the bus manager, and 63 for the privileged terminal. The connection points available are indicated by a small circle.
A cursor is used to set the length of the FIPIO bus. The default value is 1km and the maximum is 15 k. The value is set in increments of 1km.
This length must be set, as it is required for taking account of the signal propagation time on the bus, and therefore for calculation of the network cycle time by the processor.
1/2
Integration using PL7 1
Double-clicking on a small circle representing a connection point opens the "Add /
Modify a Device" window.
This window shows the list of devices which can be connected at the selected connection point. First select the "Gateway" element in the Families window, then the
"TBX SAP 10" base module.
The connection point number of the device to be configured should be entered in this window.
There is also the option to add a comment, of a maximum of 80 characters, about the device connected at the connection point.
C
1/3
C
Once the connection point has been confirmed, the composition of the device at the selected connection point is displayed in the FIPIO configuration window.

Setting the TBX SAP 10 Module Parameters
When a TBX SAP 10 module has been declared, it is possible, by clicking on the module, to access its configuration as for an in-rack module. This screen provides access to the display and modification of parameters in offline mode, and to debugging in online mode.
C
1
1 This pulldown list is used to select the operating mode : configuration (or debug).
2 This information ensures that the data from the AS-i communication channel will be scanned according to the MAST task (cannot be configured as FAST task).
3 This field is used to define the slave devices which are already connected or which are to be connected on the bus.
4 This field is used to display each of the slaves.
1/5
C
Selecting slave devices to be connected
Selection principle
The "AS-i interface configuration" zone of the screen is used to configure all the projected slaves on the bus.
The slaves are numbered from 1 to 31
(access via the scroll bar).
Selecting the "Edit / Add AS-i slave" menu or double-clicking on the slot of the address of the slave to be configured, opens the
"Associate a Profile" screen.
1
2
This screen gives access to the list of AS-i products families. Selecting one of the families (1) accesses the AS-i devices catalog (2).
The OK button can be used to confirm the selection.
Note :
The list of families has 2 particular elements :
• Standard profiles : selecting this family allows the user to select an AS-i profile from 240 possible profiles. The characteristics linked to this profile can be accessed by clicking on the View button.
• Private families : a PL7 user can manage a specific AS-i device catalog file from his programming terminal (see the next section).
Caution : an application which uses AS-i products from the private family catalog is always linked to the use of the same family catalog.
1/6
In the "AS-interface Configuration" box, the reference for the connected device appears next to the slave number.
Integration using PL7 1
C
The following commands can be used to modify this selection :
• "Edit / Delete AS-i slave" deletes the selected device
• "Edit / Cut AS-i slave" cuts the selected device
• "Edit / Copy AS-i slave" copies the selected device
• "Edit / Paste AS-i slave" pastes the device previously cut or copied to the selected slot
Selecting the View button in the "Associate a Profile" screen also provides a description of an AS-i slave.
It is also possible to access all the information in the catalog file by clicking the Details button.
1/7
C
Adding and modifying a profile in the catalog
From the "Associate a Profile" screen, it is possible, by selecting "Private Family" then
"Add", to define the profile of a slave which is not available in the standard catalog.
To do this :
• Define the name of the slave device
• Enter a comment (optional)
• Define the IO and ID data of the profile
• Select the inputs and outputs used by the slave
• Define the setting to 1 or 0 of each parameter linked to the slave device. The parameters for each slave can be programmed on 4 bits, and are specific to each slave. When a box is checked, the corresponding parameter is set to 1. By default, all of the parameters are at 1
A slave defined in this way is added to the private family catalog.
This profile can then be used as a standard catalog profile. Pressing "Modify" allows the name and comments relating to the profile of the slave to be modified. The I/O and
ID data of the profile can no longer be modified once the window is confirmed.
1/8
Integration using PL7 1
Configuring slaves
The "Slave i configuration" zone in the Configuration screen displays the data associated with the slave selected in the "AS-interface configuration" zone.
C
The data in the "Slave i configuration" zone cannot be modified in this screen (except for the activation or deactivation of parameters).
Profile : consists of the IO and ID data, it is determined by the type of device selected.
It is defined by the user if the profile has been added.
Comment : this is determined by the type of device selected. It is defined by the user if the profile has been added and can be modified in the "Define an AS-interface Profile" screen.
Asi symbol : the symbols associated with the slave I/O are defined using the variables editor.
Parameters : these are determined by the type of device selected. They are defined by the user if the profile has been added and can be modified in the "Define an
AS-interface Profile" screen.
The parameters are activated and the deactivated via checkboxes. By default, all the parameters are activated.
1/9
C
General parameters
Replacing a faulty slave :
A faulty slave can be replaced by a slave of the same type easily without stopping the
AS-i bus. If the replacement slave is programmed with the same address, using the pocket programmer, and it has the same profile, it will be automatically inserted in the list of detected slaves (LDS) and activated.
If the new slave is brand new (address 0, new slave), and if it has the same profile, the slave automatically takes the address of the slave it replaces and is therefore in the list of detected slaves and in the list of activated slaves.
Minor modification of a configuration :
The automatic addressing option can be used to make minor changes to the configuration without using the pocket programmer. If the slave to be inserted is projected in the PL7 configuration, if it has the same profile as that which is expected, and if it has address 0 (as a new slave), then the AS-i module will program the slave with the value preset during configuration. This is only possible if a single slave is missing from the configuration. It is possible to modify an application by following the above procedure as many times as possible.
Important : for the insertion to be effective, it is necessary to :
• Add the new slave in the configuration screen in offline mode
• Transfer the configuration to the PLC in online mode
• Physically connect the new slave with address 0 to the AS-i bus
1/10
Integration using PL7 1
Confirming the configuration after modification
When quitting the function after modifying the module configuration parameters, the new configuration must be confirmed. To do this, several possibilities are available :
1 Confirm using the toolbar by clicking on the corresponding icon or by selecting the confirm command in the shortcut menu.
2 Quit the function without confirming the parameters. This displays a dialog box which enables the user to confirm the new configuration.
3 Pull down the PL7 Edit menu and select Confirm.
C
Global reconfiguration
Before quitting the configuration editor after modifying all the configuration parameters of the channels on each module, global reconfiguration is necessary. When the editor is closed, a dialog box asks for this global reconfiguration to be confirmed.
1/11
C
Global reconfiguration must be performed in offline mode, so that the modifications confirmed for each module are taken into account in the application.
This reconfiguration is performed :
• using the "Confirm" icon, the Edit/Confirm command, or the confirm command in the shortcut menu
• by closing the configuration editor without global confirmation, and then confirming global reconfiguration

3.3-2 Gateway Diagnostics via PL7
This is performed via the module debug screen, which can only be accessed in online mode. This screen provides access to gateway diagnostics in the event of a fault.
This screen is also used, for each AS-i communication gateway in the application, to display the slave connections, the parameters of each of the slaves, and to write and force the selected channel.
The Debug function of an AS-i communication module is accessed by double-clicking in the Application Browser on the Station, Configuration and Hardware configuration icons, then on the representation of the FIPIO connector and on that of the gateway.
By default, in online mode, the Debug function is selected, and the scrolling dialog box in the command zone can be used to return to the Configuration function.

The window is divided into three parts which are used to indicate the level at which the fault has occurred. For a module or a channel, faults can be internal, external or other.
Example of the screen :
External faults :
• Slave device faulty
• Line error (AS-i power supply switched off or terminal block error)
• Difference between physical configuration and PL7 configuration
Internal faults :
• Internal software fault
• Communication fault with the processor
• Configuration, parameter definition, or control error

3.4
AS-i Bus Diagnostics
3.4-1 Visual AS-i Bus Diagnostics
When a fault occurs on the AS-i bus, the gateway I/O indicator lamp is lit while this fault is present.
A fault on the AS-i bus may have one of three origins :
• No AS-i bus power supply
• Slave present at address 0
• AS-i bus configuration fault
No AS-i power supply :
When the AS-i power supply disappears, all the LEDs on the slaves projected in the reference configuration flash, whatever the TBX SAP 10 operating mode.
Slave present at address 0 :
When a slave with address 0 is connected on the AS-i bus, LED 0 of the left-hand row flashes, whatever the TBX SAP 10 operating mode.
AS-i bus configuration fault :
Whatever the TBX SAP 10 operating mode, it continuously compares the actual configuration of the AS-i bus with the reference configuration.
When a slave disappears or is missing from the AS-i bus, the LED of the address concerned flashes, whatever the TBX SAP 10 operating mode.
When a slave whose profile is different from that in the reference configuration is installed on the AS-i bus, the LED of the address concerned lights up if the TBX SAP
10 is in "Configuration" mode (in this case, the slave is still activated), flashes if the TBX
SAP 10 is in "Protected" mode (in this case, the slave is not activated).

3.4-2 AS-i Bus Diagnostics via PL7
Presentation of the diagnostic objects
There are three types of diagnostic information
• information which is always available
• information available after an explicit exchange
• information available after a request for diagnostics from the AS-i bus
Addressing
The diagnostic objects have the following syntax :
%object type\p.2.c\0.y.z
p = processor slot (0 or 1) c = FIPIO connection point y = AS-i number of the slave z = object rank or ERR
"Diagnostic" inputs
Inputs %I\p.2.c\0.0.0 to %I\p.2.c\0.0.3 always contain information about the status of the
AS-i bus and the current operating mode of the TBX SAP 10 module.
• %I\p.2.c\0.0.0: when this bit is at 1, the TBX SAP 10 module operates in "Protected" mode and only activates the slaves whose configuration is identical to that in the reference configuration. When this bit is at 0, the TBX SAP 10 module operates in
"Configuration" mode and activates all the slaves present on the AS-i bus.
• %I\p.2.c\0.0.1: when this bit is at 1, the TBX SAP 10 module operates in "Diagnostic" mode and in this case, it is not the AS-i bus inputs which are fed back but the lists of detected, programmed and activated slaves.
In this mode, the AS-i bus outputs are always set.
• %I\p.2.c\0.0.2: when this bit is at 1, it indicates that the actual AS-i bus configuration and the reference configuration stored in the read-only memory of the TBX SAP 10 are inconsistent. This bit can be set to 1 whatever the operating mode of the TBX
SAP 10 (Configuration, Protected, Diagnostic).
• %I\p.2.c\0.0.3: when this bit is at 1, it indicates the presence of a slave with address
0 on the AS-i bus.
3/8
Diagnostics using PL7 3
AS-i channel status objects
These objects are only exchanged on a PL7 instruction : READ_STS %CH\p.2.c\0.0.2.
The status provides information on all the slaves present on the AS-i communication channel. This 16-bit word contains diagnostic information on the TBX SAP 10 module and diagnostic information relating to exchanges with the TBX SAP 10 over the FIPIO network.
The low order byte contains diagnostic information from the TBX SAP 10.
The high order byte contains diagnostic information from the PLC.
C
Object Function Meaning
%MW\p.2.c\0.0.2
Status generated bit 0 : not used by the bit 1 : AS-i bus configuration fault
TBX SAP 10 bit 2 : slave with address 0 present on the AS-i bus bit 3 : no AS-i power supply bit 4 : internal module fault (failure) bit 5 : hardware configuration fault bit 6 : PLC communication fault bit 7 : reserved
Status generated bit 8 : configuration fault by the PLC bit 9 : module missing bit A : module not operating bit B : module faulty bit C : internal fault, PLC hardware fault bit D : internal fault, PLC system fault bit E : dialog fault, FIPIO communication fault bit F : dialog fault, TBX SAP 10 parameter definition
fault
For example %MW\p.2.c\0.0.2:X1 indicates an AS-i bus configuration fault
AS-i bus configuration fault : this bit indicates that the AS-i bus configuration and the reference configuration are inconsistent.
If the TBX SAP 10 is in "Protected" mode, the slaves of the addresses concerned are no longer activated.
If the TBX SAP 10 is in "Configuration" mode, this fault is signalled but the slaves of the addresses concerned remain activated.
Presence of slave with address 0 : this bit signals the presence of a slave with address
0 on the AS-i bus. This does not affect the operation of the AS-i bus, but causes an AS-i bus configuration error.
When this bit is at 1, it is not possible to switch from "Configuration" mode to "Protected" mode.
3/9
C
No AS-i power supply : when this bit is at 1 :
• All the AS-i bus outputs are set to 0
• All the AS-i bus inputs fed back to the PLC equal 0
This register is updated even when the PLC is stopped.
When one of the STATUS bits is set to 1, the processor I/O LED lights up.

LDS List of Detected Slaves.
Memorization of the addresses of all the slaves present on the AS-i bus.
LPS List of Projected Slaves.
List of slave addresses which must be taken into account when a configuration is received. In this case the AS-i bus is in AS-i protected mode.
AS-i protected mode corresponds to PL7 configured mode.
LAS List of Activated Slaves.
List of addresses of projected and detected slaves. Their identification must also be consistent with that given in the reference configuration information.
TBX SAP 10 connected on FIPIO :
When the TBX SAP 10 is connected on FIPIO, it is the activated slaves (LAS) which are displayed on the display block LEDs, ie. the slaves which can set outputs and feed back inputs.
If the TBX SAP 10 is disconnected from FIPIO during operation, only the activated slaves are displayed.

4 Operating Modes with PL7
4.1
Precautions when Changing Operating Mode
There are several phases in the operation of the TBX SAP 10 gateway.
Phase 1 : Initializing the PLC
• Initialization of the TBX SAP 10 with the values set during configuration.
• The TBX should be in configuration mode. The mode indication bit should be at zero.
• The AS-i outputs are at zero.
Phase 2 : Accessing AS-i slaves
The PLC is initialized and the AS-i slaves can be accessed.
The gateway is in configuration mode unless the mode indication bit is set to 1.
Phase 3 : Switching to AS-i configuration mode if required
Switching from configuration mode to protected mode causes a reinitialization of the
TBX SAP 10 for 1 second, which has the following effects :
• Evolution of word %MW\x\y.0.2
• The configuration fault bit is set to 1
• The processor signals an external fault
• The input confirmation word is equal to 1
Once the gateway has been reinitialized, the configuration fault bit is set to zero and the external fault disappears.
Reinitialization of the gateway is complete when bit 0 of the input confirmation word is equal to 0 : the TBX SAP10 is then ready to operate.
If the TBX is in protected mode, switching from STOP to RUN, switching on the PLC, breaking the FIPIO connection or a module power supply fault causes a reconfiguration of the TBX SAP 10.
During a switch from configuration mode to protected mode, the slave I/O should not be accessed until the gateway reinitialization is complete. The application should take this switching phase into account by monitoring the input confirmation word.
C

C
Phase 4 : Switching to diagnostic mode if required
The status of the AS-i network can be displayed in diagnostic mode by acting on a bit or clicking on the 'AS-i Bus Diag.' button.
Caution : It is not the inputs which are fed back in the input image words but the status of the AS-i bus (the lists of detected, programmed and activated slaves).
As the PLC is in RUN, the application must take this change of mode into account to avoid interpreting the status of the AS-i bus rather than the inputs, as in this operating mode the outputs are always activated.
Diagnostic mode is described in section 3.5-1.

4.2
Replacing a Faulty Slave
Automatic programming of an address when a faulty slave is replaced is only possible if the following two conditions are met :
• The TBX SAP 10 must be operating in "Protected" mode
• Only one slave must be faulty
In this case, the TBX SAP 10 signals the fault to the PLC by indicating a configuration error on the AS-i bus.
To determine the address of the faulty slave, it is necessary to :
• Either switch the TBX SAP 10 to "Diagnostic" mode and view the list of activated slaves
(LAS)
• Or check the number of the LED which is flashing on the TBX SAP 10 display block
It is then possible to change the faulty slave by :
• Disconnecting the faulty slave from the AS-i bus
• Connecting an identical slave (with the same identification code and I/O code) in its place with address 0 (default address on delivery)
The TBX SAP 10 then automatically assigns the address of the faulty slave to the new slave connected on the AS-i bus. It is immediately activated and operational.
On the TBX SAP 10 display block :
• The I/O LED goes out
• The address LED which was flashing is lit continuously
• The fault fed back to the PLC disappears

1.1
FIPIO Standard Profile
To develop an application using TBX SAP 10 modules on the FIPIO bus, these modules must be declared via :
• The X-TEL-CONF software tool for Series 7, TSX model 40 PLCs
• The ORPHEE configuration editor for Series 1000, APRIL 5000 PLCs
These respective software workshop tools can be used to generate operating parameters for the FIPIO network automatically which will then be loaded in the PLC.
The TBX SAP 10 module belongs to the STD_P family of devices. This family enables connection on FIPIO of devices conforming to FIPIO standard profiles, defined in the context of the FIPIO connection program.
For ORPHEE, this type of device is declared by associating one of the modules from the STD_P family to a connection point on the FIPIO bus.
The standard profile used by the TBX SAP 10 module is the FSD C8 P profile, the characteristics for which are as follows :
•
• FSD -> FIPIO Standard Device
C8 -> Compact device :
- 8 words for the image of the AS-i bus inputs
- 8 words for the image of the AS-i bus outputs
• P -> Device for which Parameters can be set :
- 16 configuration words for the AS-i bus
- 32 words for setting the AS-i slave parameters and the master operating mode
A series of screens guides the user through configuration of the AS-i bus and parameter
-setting of slaves on the AS-i bus.

Integration using X-TEL
1.2-1 Limitations
Configuration, programming and diagnostics of the TBX SAP 10 module on the FIPIO network using the X-TEL-CONF tool is possible via the software workshop :
• X-TEL V52, if the set of TXT R CTG V52E catalog disks has been installed
• X-TEL V6, using PL7-3 V6 software
The TBX SAP 10 module can only be used with version V5.3 and above of Series 7,
TSX model 40 processors.
1.2-2 Selecting the TBX SAP 10 Module
In the Station Tools window, click on the Conf tool to access the Station-Tool-conf. screen.
In the Configure menu choose Remote I/O to access the Configuration of remote
Devices screen, enabling the choice of each connection point.
Access to remote configurations requires the prior declaration, in the Configure - Rack
I/O menu, of a processor with an integrated FIPIO link.

D
The screen is divided into 64 zones numbered from 0 to 63. Each zone represents a connection point to the FIPIO network and can be occupied by a device, with the exception of zones 0 and 63 which are reserved for the PLC and the programming terminal respectively.
The number of the TBX SAP 10 module connection point can be between 1 and 62.
Connection point
The number of the connection point defined using X-TEL must be the same as the address defined by the coding micro-switches of the TBX SAP 10 module.
The connection point can be selected by using the scrolling arrows or the mouse. The number of the connection point is then grayed out. The FIPIO configuration can be accessed by pressing the ENTER key or by double-clicking on the grayed line.
Device family
For use with X-TEL V52, the STD_P device family is only available if the set of TXT R
CTG V52E catalog disks has been installed beforehand.
For use with X-TEL V6, the STD_P can be accessed directly without additional installation.

ENTER to access the dialog box below :
The name of the parameter to be modified is indicated as well as the minimum and maximum values, the unit is not significant.
The value to be entered is hexadecimal.
X-TEL does not monitor the values of entered parameters ; if an incorrect value is entered, this may cause a configuration fault on the AS-i bus or the undesired operation of an AS-i slave.
1/6
Software Setup using X-TEL and Orphee 1
1.2-4 Selecting the Reference Configuration
The AS-i master continuously compares the actual configuration on the AS-i bus with a reference configuration which could be either that :
• Programmed in the PLC in words CNF0 to CNF15
• Physically present on the AS-i bus and saved on connection to the PLC
In the case of inconsistency, a fault is indicated to the PLC.
The TBX SAP 10 module can operate in various modes :
Configuration mode : The AS-i master activates all slaves present on the AS-i bus even if the actual configuration on the bus is different to the reference configuration. The slaves can then be used immediately.
This mode should be used for commissioning and installation of the AS-i bus.
Protected mode : This mode is recommended during operation when the slaves connected to the AS-i bus are already functioning correctly.
Any slave whose identification does not match the reference configuration is not activated.
Diagnostic mode : It is no longer the state of the AS-i bus discrete inputs which are fed back to the PLC, but the lists of detected slaves which have been programmed and activated (see "Diagnostics" section).
The TBX SAP 10 operating mode should always be the "Configuration" mode on initialization of the PLC : bit 0 of the PRM 0 word should always be 0. "Configuration" mode should only be changed to "Protected" mode if all the AS-i bus discrete outputs are at 0. This operation entails complete initialization of the AS-i master and a change to 0 of all the discrete outputs.
Selection of the reference configuration for the TBX SAP 10 depends on the value of bit 2 of the PRM 0 word :
Bit 2 Bit 1 Bit 0
0 0 0
1 0 0
Configuration mode : Reference configuration entered in
CNF0 to CNF15
Configuration mode : Reference configuration same as that for the AS-i bus
Entering words CNF0 to CNF15 is not necessary
D
1/7
D
The TBX SAP 10 operating mode can only be modified during operation by updating the PRM Ax,0,0 word and by setting bit SENDPRMx,0,0 to 1 to send the value, x being the number of the FIPIO connection point (see "Programming" section).
Using the SENDPRMx,0,0, bit does not modify the content of words PRM0 to
PRM31, but enables registers PRMAx,0,0 to PRMAx,0,F to be sent.
However, words PRM0 to PRM31 are sent to the TBX SAP 10 module every time the PLC is initialized.
1.2-5 Programming the AS-i Bus Configuration
The TBX SAP 10 module continuously compares the actual configuration of the AS-i bus with a reference configuration which can be either that programmed in the PLC in words CNF0 to CNF15, or that present on the AS-i bus and saved on connection to the
PLC.
If the reference configuration chosen is that of the AS-i bus, it is not necessary to complete words CNF0 to CNF15.
Each AS-i slave is identified on a byte by a particular profile defined by the AS-i consortium. This identification is contained in a slave EEPROM, which enables the AS-i master to determine the current configuration on the AS-i bus.
The identification principle is as follows :
Bits (7..4)
Identification code
Bits (3..0)
I/O code
Type of slave device Distribution of I/O on bits
0 : active splitter blocks
1 : slaves for which parameters can be set
D0 to D3 of the slave

This means that if table CNF0 to CNF15 is not completed and if it only contains values
= 0, the network will be configured with 124 inputs because the profile 0.0 corresponds to a 4-input active splitter block.
By using devices with a 07h profile, it will be possible to obtain a maximum configuration of 124 AS-i inputs + 124 AS-i outputs, that is 248 I/O.
Examples : slave 8 = 2IN/2OUT slave 9 = 4 OUT slave 25 = 4IN slave 24 = none
CNF4 = 0803h
CNF12 = 00FFh
To modify this configuration, return each time to this screen, enter the new values then reload the program in the PLC using the X-TEL-TRANSFER tool.
No modification can be made during operation.

1.2-6 Setting "Intelligent" Slave Parameters
It is possible to modify parameters using the four bits P0 to P3 of the AS-i communication frame (devices for which the Identification code is 1).
Words PRM 0 to PRM 15 are used to transmit the desired initial parameter values on
PLC and AS-i master start-up (examples : inductive sensor, photoelectric cell, illuminated indicator bank, motor starter, etc).
The documentation for each of these devices must be consulted to find out the default operation.

1.3-1 Limitations
The ORPHEE configuration editor enables the connection to and configuration of devices on the FIPIO bus. Configuration of the TBX SAP 10 module requires ORPHEE version •V6.2.
The following paragraphs describe the operating mode for use of the TBX SAP 10 module on the FIPIO bus, controlled by APRIL 5000.
For more details on the principles of connecting and configuring devices on the FIPIO bus, refer to the documentation "ORPHEE/ORPHEE-DIAG option for using the FIPIO bus on APRIL 5000" ref. TEM10000/10800E.
Installation of the TBX SAP 10 module is only possible with a CPU5030 or CPU5130 version • 2.
D
1.3-2 Selecting the TBX SAP 10 Module
The TBX SAP 10 module can be accessed in the STD_P family of the FIPIO network configuration screen.
To connect a TBX SAP 10 to FIPIO, click on the STD_P button, enter the connection point number (1 to 62) and select the FSD C8 P standard profile.
The number of the connection point defined using ORPHEE should be identical to the address defined by the coding micro-switches of module TBX SAP 10.

D
1.3-3 Configuring the TBX SAP 10 Module
The TBX SAP 10 appears in the form of standard profile FSD C8 P in the list of connected devices. It can be selected by using the direction keys and pressing ENTER or by double-clicking with the mouse to access the main parameter-setting screen of a device conforming to the standard profile :
Connection point : non-modifiable information zone indicating the FIPIO address of the device (between 1 and 62).
Device composition : non-modifiable information zone indicating the reference and designation of the TBX SAP 10 standard profile.
Comment : Comment entry line visible in Real time Display which forms part of the application dossier. This indicates that it is an AS-i master : it is the only place where a distinction can be made, in text format, between FIPIO devices of the same profile but different type (screw-driving machine, welding machine).
Input tabulation - Default : Validity word for AS-i bus discrete inputs. The variable to be entered is type %MW. Possible values are indicated in the 'Programming" section.
Input tabulation - Words : Table of 8 %MW type words in which the state of 124 AS-i bus discrete inputs are cyclically sent to the PLC, as well as the diagnostic bits. The distribution of inputs in the various %MW and the significance of the diagnostic bits are discussed in the 'Programming" section.

Output tabulation - Words : Table of 8 %MW type words in which the state of 124 AS-i bus discrete outputs are cyclically sent to the PLC. The distribution of outputs in the various %MW is indicated in the "Programming" section.
Default configuration : This box should never remain checked with the TBX SAP 10.
The values of parameters entered in the screens which can be accessed by the
Configuration and Adjustment buttons are sent to the TBX SAP 10 on each STOP ->
RUN transition or on each power-up of the PLC or TBX SAP 10.
Configuration : This button accesses the AS-i bus configuration screen.
Adjustment : This button accesses the selection screen for the AS-i reference configuration when the PLC changes to RUN and fixes the initial values of "intelligent" slave parameters.
ORPHEE does not monitor the values of parameters entered; if an incorrect value is entered, this may cause an AS-i bus configuration fault or undesired operation of an AS-i slave.

IN/OUT = Certain profiles define the I/O, meaning that on 4 data bits it is possible to simultaneously transmit output information and input information : in the master frame, it is the outputs which are positioned whereas in the slave response frame there will be the image of the inputs.
IN/OUT/NUL = Undetermined, in other words no slave connected to this address.
To indicate that no slave is present at one of the 31 addresses, an FF value must be entered in hexadecimal format which corresponds to no profile.
The AS-i bus configuration is completed in words CNF0 to CNF15. The values in

Examples : slave 8 = 2IN/2OUT slave 9 = 4 OUT slave 29 = 4IN slave 28 = none
CNF4 = 0803h
CNF14 = 00FFh
To modify this configuration, return each time to this screen, enter the new values then reload the program in the PLC.
No modification can be made during operation.

1.3-6 Setting "Intelligent" Slave Parameters
To enter parameters for intelligent slaves, it is possible to modify parameters using the four bits P0 to P3 of the AS-i communication frame (devices for which the Identification code is 1). Words PRM 0 to PRM 15 enable the desired initial parameter values to be transmitted on PLC and AS-i master start-up (examples : inductive sensor, photoelectric cell, illuminated indicator bank, motor starter, etc).
The documentation for each of these devices must be consulted to find out the default operation.
The initial parameter settings for "intelligent" slaves are completed by entering, in words
PRM 0 to PRM 15, the values in hexadecimal format between 00H and 0FH (only the four least significant bits are important).
Examples :
• Inductive sensor with AS-i profile = 1.1 at address 18
Parameter P3 = use of recognition flash PRM9 = 0008h
• Photoelectric cell with AS-i profile = 1.1 at address 7
Parameter P1 = active state of the detection input PRM 3 = 0200h
If there are no "intelligent" slaves in the configuration, the values of words PRM 0 to PRM
31 remain at 0.

D
2.1-5 TBX SAP 10 Operating Modes
While the ASI master is not connected to the FIPIO bus, it does not receive the configuration of the AS-i bus programmed by the user; in this case, the master does not activate any slaves and only scans the network to determine the list of detected devices.
In this case, the TBX SAP 10 display block indicates slaves detected on the bus. The user can thus see which AS-i addresses are already used and slaves can be installed at addresses which are still free.
When a device is connected to FIPIO, the TBX SAP 10 automatically receives CNFx configuration and PRMx adjustment words on its introduction onto the network : its operating mode is still "Configuration" mode.
Changing from one mode to another is carried out by modifying the value of bits 0 and
1 of the PRMAx, 0, 0 word by using the SENDPRMx, 0, 0, instruction where x is the address of the FIPIO connection point.

Bit 0

Change to Protected mode
Change to Diagnostic mode
"Configuration" mode
In this mode, all slaves detected on the AS-i bus are activated; writing the outputs and reading the inputs is directly possible.
The detected slaves can be identified by a continuously lit LED on the TBX SAP 10 display block : one lit LED per slave present.
LED 0 of the first row on the left of the display block flashes if a slave is present at address no. 0.
In the event of a configuration error or presence of a slave at address 0, the TBX SAP
10 I/O LED is lit and a fault is fed back to the PLC (for more details see the "Diagnostics" section).
It is not possible to change to "Protected" mode when a slave is present at address 0.
In this mode, the self-addressing function cannot be used (see the following paragraph).
"Configuration" mode should only be changed to "Protected" mode if all the AS-i bus discrete outputs are at 0. This operation entails complete initialization of the
AS-i master and changing to 0 of all the discrete outputs.
2/6
Programming using X-TEL and Orphee 2
"Protected" mode
In this mode, only slaves whose actual configuration on the AS-i bus (I/O Code and
Identification Code) is the same as the reference configuration are activated : outputs are positioned, inputs are fed back.
The reference configuration can be either that :
• programmed in words CNF0 to CNF15
• of the AS-i bus
Slaves activated on the AS-i bus are identified by a continuously lit LED on the TBX SAP
10 display block; if the LED flashes, the configurations are not the same.
In the event of a configuration error or presence of a slave at address 0, the TBX SAP
10 I/O LED is lit and a fault is fed back to the PLC (for more details see the "Diagnostics" section).
In this mode, the TBX SAP 10 self-addressing function is automatically available and can be used during a maintenance operation (see "Diagnostics" section).
In the event of a single slave malfunction, the fault is signaled by the master on its display block and also to the PLC. When the user intervenes to change the slave (a slave is always factory preset with address 0), the master detects the new device with address
0 and, if its profile corresponds to the projected device, the master will automatically assign it with a new address which was that of the failed slave.
This function can only be used if ONE AND ONLY ONE slave has malfunctioned. If several slaves have malfunctioned, the address of each slave has to be programmed using the AS-i programming terminal before being connected to the AS-i bus because the master cannot automatically assign an address to a new device.
Replacement of a failed device does therefore not require any intervention on the PLC.
"Diagnostic" mode
In this mode, it is no longer the AS-i bus inputs which are fed back to the PLC but the lists of the slaves which are detected, programmed and activated.
This mode can be useful for detecting the origin of a fault from the PLC in the event of an AS-i bus configuration error (for more details see "Diagnostics" section).
In this mode, outputs continue to be activated by the PLC.

2.1-6 Modifying the Reference Configuration
At any time, it is possible to modify the reference configuration in line with the expansion of the installation by updating the PRMAx, 0, 0 word and by setting the SENDPRMx,
0, 0 bit to 1 to send the value.
The method is as follows :
• Change to "Configuration" mode (compulsory) :
(bit 0 of word PRMAx, 0, 0 = 0)
• Save the physical configuration of the AS-i bus in the reference configuration :
(bit 2 of word PRMAx, 0, 0 = 1)
• Return to "Protected" mode :
(bit 0 of word PRMAx, 0, 0 = 1)
(bit 2 of word PRMAx, 0, 0 = 0)
At any time, the change from one mode to another can be verified in the diagnostic bits of word RIWx, 0, 0 (see "Diagnostics" section).
2/8
Programming using X-TEL and Orphee 2
2.1-7 AS-i Output Operating Mode
The outputs of the AS-i master follow the PLC operating modes and are controlled during the AS-i cycle (AS-i bus pooling of addresses 1 to 31) according to the values sent by the PLC at the end of each application program cycle.
However, various events may arise during nominal operation leading to differing scenarios :
D
FIPIO connection break or
AS-i power supply failure or
TBX SAP 10 failure or
PLC change to STOP or
Change from "Configuration" mode to "Protected" mode
-> AS-i outputs = 0
TBX SAP 10 module supply failure
AS-i slave malfunction ->
-> ASI outputs retain their state
Only the AS-i outputs of the malfunctioning slave change to and remain at 0
It is advisable to use the same power supply for the TBX SAP 10 module and AS-i discrete outputs since, in the event of module power supply failure, all the outputs also change to 0.
The use of "intelligent" slaves with a "Watch-Dog" function also enables the outputs to change to 0 in the event of an AS-i master problem : in this case, it is the slave which takes the initiative and positions the output to 0 once it ceases to be interrogated by the master.

When the ACT output of a WRIT_PRM CFB returns to 0, this ensures that the variable which sends the adjustment values on the FIPIO bus has been requested by the CPU.
However, this under no circumstance guarantees that the device has received the variable, or taken it into account.
As a result, if the device to which the adjustment parameters are destined is missing, the WRIT_PRM CFB requests the adjustment variable be sent and does not notify any error report.
It is possible to check that a change from one mode to another has been taken into account in the diagnostic bits.

2.2-5 TBX SAP 10 Operating Modes
While the ASI master is not connected to the FIPIO bus, it does not receive the configuration of the AS-i bus programmed by the user; in this case, the master does not activate any slaves and only scans the network to determine the list of detected devices.
The TBX SAP 10 display block then indicates slaves detected on the bus.
Changing from one mode to another is carried out by modifying the value of bits 0 and
1 of the PRM 0 word by using the WRIT_PRM CFB.

This operation entails complete reinitialization of the
AS-i master and changing to 0 of all the discrete outputs.
2/16
Programming using X-TEL and Orphee 2
"Protected" mode
In this mode, only slaves whose actual configuration on the AS-i bus (I/O Code and
Identification Code) is the same as the reference configuration are activated : outputs are positioned, inputs are fed back.
The reference configuration can be either that :
• programmed in words CNF0 to CNF15
• of the AS-i bus
Slaves activated on the AS-i bus are identified by a continuously lit LED on the TBX SAP
10 display block; if the LED flashes, the configurations (programmed and actual) are not the same.
In the event of a configuration error or presence of a slave at address 0, the TBX SAP
10 I/O LED is lit and a fault is fed back to the PLC (for more details see the "Diagnostics" section).
In this mode, the TBX SAP 10 self-addressing function is available and can be useful during a maintenance operation (see "Diagnostics" section).
In this mode, it is no longer the AS-i bus inputs which are fed back to the PLC but the lists of slaves which are detected, programmed and activated.
This mode can be useful for detecting the origin of a fault from the PLC in the event of an AS-i bus configuration error (for more details see "Diagnostics" section).
In this mode, outputs continue to be activated by the PLC.

2.2-6 Modifying the Reference Configuration
At any time, it is possible to modify the reference configuration in line with the expansion of the installation by using the word WRIT_PRM CFB.
The method is as follows :
• Change to "Configuration" mode (compulsory) :
(bit 0 of word PRM 0 = 0)
• Save the physical configuration of the AS-i bus in the reference configuration :
(bit 2 of word PRM 0 = 1)
• Return to "Protected" mode :
(bit 0 of word PRM 0 = 1)
(bit 2 of word PRM 0 = 0)
At any time, the change from one mode to another can be verified in the diagnostic bits of word 0 of the input tabulation (see "Diagnostics" section).
2/18
Programming using X-TEL and Orphee 2
2.2-7 AS-i Output Operating Mode
The outputs of the AS-i master follow the PLC operating modes and are controlled during the AS-i cycle (AS-i bus pooling of addresses 1 to 31) according to the values sent by the PLC at the end of each application program cycle.
However, various events may arise during nominal operation leading to differing scenarios : D
FIPIO connection break or
AS-i power supply failure or
TBX SAP 10 failure
or
PLC change to STOP or
Change from "Configuration" mode to "Protected" mode
-> AS-i outputs = 0
TBX SAP 10 module supply failure
AS-i slave malfunction
-> AS-i outputs
retain their state
-> Only the AS-i outputs of the malfunctioning
slave change to and remain at 0
It is advisable to use the same power supply for the TBX SAP 10 module and AS-i discrete outputs since, in the event of module power supply failure, all the outputs also change to 0.
The use of "intelligent" slaves with a "Watch-Dog" function also enables the outputs to change to 0 in the event of an AS-i master problem : in this case, it is the slave which takes the initiative and positions the output to 0 once it ceases to be interrogated by the master.

I/O module fault or a fault in a device connected to FIPIO.
Normally at 1, this bit is set to 0 on an in-rack
I/O module fault or a fault in a device connected to FIPIO and configured in the task.
This bit should be reset to 1 by the user program.
A SY16 bit is assigned to each of the configured tasks (IT, FAST, MAST, AUX0 to AUX3). It is therefore only significant for the task in which it is tested.
Normally at 1, this bit is set to 0 on a FIPIO device or FIPIO link fault.
This word signals a FIPIO communication fault between the processor and a device in the task.
Each bit (0 to 7) denotes a fault : bit 0 : global invalidity bit 1 : existence of invalid values bit 2 : total absence of updating bit 3 : partial absence of updating bit 4 : total dialog fault bit 5 : partial dialog fault bit 6 : global refresh fault bit 7 : partial refresh fault
Each bit of these 4 system words represents the state of the connection point. The presence of a bit at 0 indicates the appearance of an exchange or process fault with a device : for example SW118, 0 for connection point 0, etc

AS-i bus configuration fault : this bit signals an inconsistency between the configuration of the AS-i bus and the reference configuration.
If the TBX SAP 10 is in "Protected" mode, the slaves of the addresses concerned are no longer activated.
If the TBX SAP 10 is in "Configuration" mode, the fault is signaled but the slaves of the addresses concerned remain active.
Presence of slave at address 0 : this bit signals the presence of a slave at address
0 on the AS-i bus. This does not affect operation of the AS-i bus, but causes an AS-i bus configuration error.
When this bit is at 1, changing from "Configuration" mode to "Protected" mode is not possible.
AS-i power supply missing : when this bit is at 1 :
• All the AS-i bus outputs change to 0.
• All the AS-i bus inputs fed back to the PLC are at 0.
This register is updated even if the PLC is in STOP mode.
When one of the STATUSA bits changes to 1, the PLC processor I/O LED is lit.
D
3.1-3 AS-i Bus Input Validity Register : RD
This word of 16 bits indicates an error when the variables of the TBX SAP 10 module are updated (image of inputs).
If RD is at 0, the values of the AS-i bus inputs are valid and the TBX SAP 10 module is ready for operation.
The RD most significant byte is generated by the TBX SAP 10 module when the AS-i bus inputs are read and all the diagnostic information is at 0.
For the TBX SAP 10, bit 8 changes to 1 when it is not ready for operation.
The RD least significant byte is generated by the PLC processor. It is relative to the cyclical update of inputs over the FIPIO network. In this case, the RIW variables (image of inputs) can contain old and incorrect values and must be ignored by the application.
The RD register and RIW words (image of inputs) are not updated when the PLC is in
STOP mode : they retain their last value.
It may be useful to test bit 8 of the RD register to establish whether the TBX SAP 10 is ready to write outputs or feed back inputs.

3.1-4 4-bit Status Group : "Diagnostic" Mode
In the first four bits of the first register which is the image of inputs RIWx, 0, 0 information is stored on the state of the AS-i bus and on the current operating mode of the

Bit 0 : When this bit is at 1, the TBX SAP 10 module operates in "Protected" mode and only activates slaves with the same configuration as the reference configuration.
When this bit is at 0, the TBX SAP 10 module operates in "Configuration" mode and activates all the slaves present on the AS-i bus.
Bit 1 : When this bit is at 1, the TBX SAP 10 module operates in "Diagnostic" mode and in this case, it is not the AS-i bus inputs which are fed back but the lists of slaves which are detected , programmed and activated (see following paragraph).
In this mode, the AS-i bus outputs are always set.
Bit 2 : When this bit is at 1, it indicates an inconsistency between the actual configuration of the AS-i bus and the reference configuration stored in the read-only memory of the TBX SAP 10.
This bit can change to 1 whatever the TBX SAP 10 operating mode (Configuration,
Protected, Diagnostic).
Bit 3 : When this bit is at 1, it indicates the presence of a slave with address 0 on the
AS-i bus.
3.1-5 TBX SAP 10 "Diagnostic" Mode
In this mode, it is no longer the AS-i bus inputs which are fed back in the RIWx, 0, z, register but the lists of :
• Detected slaves on the AS-i bus (LDS)
• Projected slaves in the reference configuration (LPS)
• Activated slaves which can therefore be used on the AS-i bus (LAS)
It may be useful to change to this mode for determining, from the PLC, the origin of a malfunction in the event of an AS-i bus configuration error.

LPS list :
One of bits 0 to 31 indicates the detection of a slave on the AS-i bus.
One of bits 1 to 31 (bit 0 not used) signifies that a slave is projected in the reference configuration :

Diagnostics using ORPHEE
3.2-1 System Diagnostics
The system diagnostics functions for the TBX SAP 10 module connected to the FIPIO network are available in realtime display. It is possible to :
• Read the hardware configuration and compare it with the configuration programmed in the PLC
• Display the configuration in real time in the configuration editor.
Refer to the "FIPIO link on APRIL 5000 option" in the ORPHEE documentation (ref.
TEM10000/10800E) to find out more about these functions.
For module TBX SAP 10, details on the device and its possible faults are available in real time in the "Card Diagnostics" function of the "Diagnostics" menu in the configuration editor.
There are three types of fault : internal, external and logic.
Internal faults relate to a module.
Logic and external faults relate to a FIPIO device.
Whatever the device, the label of the message which appears for internal and logic faults is identical (see following lists).
Internal faults :
• DI1 = Base module fault
• DI2 = Communication module fault
• DI3 = Extension module fault
• DI1 = Not used
3/6
Diagnostics using X-TEL and Orphee 3
Logic faults :
• DL1 = Not used
• DL2 = The device parameters have not been set or are faulty
• DL3 = Not used
• DL4 = Communication fault
External faults :
• DE1 = AS-i power supply missing
• DE2 = Presence of slave with address 0
• DE3 = Configuration fault on the AS-i bus
• DE4 = Not used
AS-i power supply missing (DE1) : when this bit is at 1 :
• All AS-i bus outputs change to 0.
• All AS-i bus inputs fed back to the PLC are at 0.
Presence of slave at address 0 (DE2) : this bit signals the presence of a slave at address 0 on the AS-i bus. This does not affect operation of the AS-i bus, but causes an AS-i bus configuration error.
When this bit is at 1, changing from "Configuration" mode to "Protected" mode is not possible.
AS-i bus configuration fault (DE3) : this bit signals an inconsistency between the configuration of the AS-i bus and the reference configuration.
If the TBX SAP 10 is in "Protected" mode, the slaves of the addresses concerned are no longer activated.
If the TBX SAP 10 is in "Configuration" mode, the fault is signaled but the slaves of the addresses concerned remain active.
In the case of external faults, it is possible to trigger a %TD if this has been previously declared when the TBX SAP 10 was entered in the configuration editor.

3.2-2 Validity Word for AS-i Bus Inputs
This word of 16 bits, completed in the parameter-setting screen of an FSD C8 P standard device (see paragraph 3.3-3) indicates an error arising when the TBX SAP 10 module variables are updated (image of the inputs).
If this word is at 0, the AS-i bus input values are valid and the TBX SAP 10 module is ready for operation.
The most significant byte of this word is always at 0.
The least significant byte of this word is generated by the TBX SAP 10 when the AS-i bus inputs are read : if bit 0 is at 1, the eight words (image of the inputs) of the AS-i bus change to 0 and the diagnostic information is still updated.
For the TBX SAP 10, bit 0 changes to 1 when it is not ready for operation.
When the TBX SAP 10 module is disconnected from the FIPIO network or switched off, the validity word takes the value FF (hexadecimal) and in this case, the words (image of the inputs) are no longer valid : they keep their last value.
This fault word, the words (image of the inputs) as well as the diagnostic information are updated even when the PLC is in STOP mode.
It may be useful to test bit 0 of this word to determine whether the TBX SAP 10 is ready to write outputs or feed back inputs.
3.2-3 4-bit Status Group : "Diagnostic" Mode

The diagnostic bits (see previous section) are always available and the outputs can always be written.
For each of the three lists LDS, LPS and LAS, each bit corresponds to a slave address between 0 and 31 on the AS-i bus.
One of bits 0 to 31 indicates the detection of a slave on the AS-i bus.
LDS list :
LPS list : One of bits 1 to 31 (bit 0 not used) signifies that a slave is projected in the reference configuration :

• %TD DEF EXT is fed back for ORPHEE, the STATUSA word evolves for X-TEL
• The configuration fault bit is set to 1
• The processor signals an external fault
• The input validity word is equal to 1
Once the gateway has been reinitialized, the configuration fault bit is set to zero and the external fault disappears. This causes a %TD RUN for ORPHEE.
Reinitialization of the gateway is complete when bit 0 of the input validity word is equal to 0 : the TBX SAP10 is then ready to operate.
If the TBX is in protected mode, switching from STOP to RUN, switching on the PLC, breaking the FIPIO connection or a module power supply fault causes a reconfiguration of the TBX SAP 10.
D
Caution for ORPHEE, a "STOP" on an external fault and a change to RUN should not be configured in the module configuration editor (PLC diagnostic parameters).
During a switch from configuration mode to protected mode, slave I/O should not be accessed until the gateway reinitialization is complete. The application should take this switching phase into account by monitoring the input validity word.
3/11
D
Phase 4 : Switching to diagnostic mode if required
Caution: It is not the inputs which are fed back in the input image words but the status of the AS-i bus (the lists of detected, programmed and activated slaves).
As the PLC is in RUN, the application must take this change of mode into account to avoid interpreting the status of the AS-i bus rather than the inputs, as in this operating mode the outputs are always activated.

3.4-1 Description of the Indicator Lamps
The AS-i master is equipped with a display block comprising the four standard FIPIO indicator lamps (RUN, DEF, COM, I/O), providing information on its status.
This display block also possesses 32 indicators for signaling the AS-i bus configuration.
RUN indicator (green) : continuously lit if the device is operational
DEF indicator (red) : continuously lit if the device is faulty
flashing if the FIPIO link is faulty
COM indicator (yellow) : lit during communication to indicate that a FIPIO frame has been sent or received

When the DEF LED is off, the four rows of LEDs indicate the configuration status of the
AS-i bus.
Each indicator lamp corresponds to an AS-i slave address :

Slaves from 8 to 15
Third row :
Right-hand row :
Slaves from 16 to 23
Slaves from 24 to 31
TBX SAP 10 not connected to FIPIO :
On power-up of the TBX SAP 10 not connected to FIPIO, the list of detected slaves
(LDS) appears on the display LEDs. This is very useful during installation since it indicates those addresses occupied by the AS-i bus.
3/13
D
TBX SAP 10 connected to FIPIO :
When the TBX SAP 10 is connected to FIPIO, it is the activated slaves (LAS) which are displayed on the display block LEDs, in other words those slaves which are capable of setting the outputs and feeding back the inputs.
If the TBX SAP 10 is disconnected from FIPIO during operation, only the activated slaves are displayed.
3.4-2 Faults on the AS-i Bus
When a fault appears on the AS-i bus, the I/O indicator is lit when the fault is present.
A fault on the AS-i bus may have three origins :
• AS-i bus power supply missing
• Presence of a slave with address 0
• AS-i bus configuration fault
AS-i power supply missing :
When the AS-i power supply disappears, all the LEDs of slaves projected in the reference configuration flash whatever the TBX SAP 10 operating mode.
Presence of a slave at address 0 :
When a slave with address 0 is connected to the AS-i bus, LED 0 of the left-hand row flashes whatever the TBX SAP 10 operating mode.
AS-i bus configuration fault :
Whatever the TBX SAP 10 operating mode, this continuously compares the actual AS-i bus configuration with the reference configuration.
When a slave disappears or is missing from the AS-i bus, the LED of the address concerned flashes whatever the TBX SAP 10 operating mode.
When a slave whose profile is different to that of the reference configuration is installed on the AS-i bus, the LED of the address concerned is lit if the TBX SAP 10 is in
"Configuration" mode (in this case, the slave is still activated). If the TBX SAP 10 is in
"Protected" mode, the LED flashes (in this case, the slave is not activated).

3.4-3 Replacing a Faulty Slave
Automatic address programming for replacement of a faulty slave is possible if the two following conditions are satisfied :
• The TBX SAP 10 must be in "Protected" mode
• Only one slave must have failed
In this case, the TBX SAP 10 signals the fault to the PLC by indicating a configuration error on the AS-i bus.
To find out the address of the faulty slave, either :
• Change the TBX SAP 10 to "Diagnostic" mode and consult the list of activated slaves
(LAS)
• On the TBX SAP 10 display block, check the number of the LED which is flashing
In this case, it is possible to change the faulty slave by proceeding as follows :
• Disconnect the faulty AS-i bus slave
• Replace with an identical slave (same identification and I/O code) with address 0
(default address when supplied)
The TBX SAP 10 then automatically assigns the address of the faulty slave to the new slave connected to the AS-i bus : it is immediately active and operational.
On the TBX SAP 10 display block :
• The I/O LED switches off
• The LED of the address which was flashing remains continuously lit
• The fault fed back to the PLC disappears
