IMPORTANT
The information given in sections 3.1 to 3.5 is for the "traditional" method of setting up
TSX AEM 160x modules, the only method available for TSX V3 (TSX P 47.30/67.20/
87.30) PLCs.
Although it is possible to use this method with TSX/PMX model 40 PLCs, it is strongly recommended that the TXT LPL7 PCL V43 or the TXT LPL7 PMS V43 software package is used for setting up modules. These packages have all the tools required for entering configuration parameters in conversational form, and automatically transferring these parameters from the PLC memory to the module memory. Section 3.6 reviews the main features of these software packages.

Intelligent modules
1.1-1 Introduction
Intelligent modules are preprogrammed processor modules designed by Telemecanique for distributed processing applications.
The modules are designed as follows :
Structure of an intelligent I/O module
PLC bus
Inputs from the application
Bus interface
Shared memory
Processing unit
Specific interface
Outputs to the application
They comprise :
• An interface bus using standard communication modes between the PLC processor and the intelligent module :
- Discrete interface
- Register interface
- Message interface
• A shared memory in which data is stored, accessible to both the intelligent module and the PLC processor
• A processing unit comprising a processor and operating software
• Inputs/outputs specific to the module
__________________________________________________________________________
1.1-2 Use
Intelligent modules simplify the user program by the employment of a processor with preprogrammed functions.
As these functions are configured by the user, use of the intelligent modules requires a knowledge of PL7-3 software. It may be necessary to refer to appropriate manuals for additional information.

General introduction
1
Safety
The inputs are protected against industrial interference and are electronically isolated from each other and from the internal PLC voltages. A grounding circuit uncouples the common reference for the channels.
Ease of use
The analog module requires no external power supply. Since the configuration is entirely defined by software and the functions are preprogrammed, the module is particularly easy to use.
Operating convenience
The modules and the terminal blocks can be inserted and removed while equipment is switched on. The PLC processor is continuously informed of the operating status of the module, and the user program can access all data for processing, if required.

Input stage : This comprises an overvoltage protection circuit and a filter on each channel to eliminate high frequency noise. The TSX AEM 1602 module has built-in current reading resistors.
Multiplexer : The solid state multiplexer sequentially switches the channels to be converted. The number of operations is unlimited.
Amplifier : Amplifies the input voltages for the two ranges :
±
10V and
±
5 V on the
TSX AEM 1601, and the 0-20 mA range of the TSX AEM 1602.
The 1-5 V and 4-20 mA ranges are derived from the
±
5 V and 0-20 mA ranges respectively.
Analog/digital converter : This double ramp converter converts the analog signal to digital values.
Isolated serial connection : The complete analog measurement circuit is at the input reference voltage and is isolated from the PLC bus. The module micro-controller manages the serial link via a serial interface circuit. The serial link is isolated by photocouplers. In the conversion section, a parallel to serial converter circuit transmits the code converted by the A/D converter, and a serial to parallel converter circuit controls the amplifier gain changes and the changes of multiplexer channel.
Processing : The micro-controller also manages the interface with the PLC, and corrects the analog measurements, based on coefficients stored in an EEPROM, as well as performing square root calculations and tests.
The bus interface carries data exchanges with the PLC processor : transmission of analog measurements, reception of the configuration, etc.

2.2-1 General
The software structure of the TSX AEM 160x modules is in two parts :

2.2-2 Data exchanges with the PLC processor
The software manages the standard interfaces :
• Discrete interface for transmitting fault data
• Register interface for transmitting status data
• Message interface for writing the configuration, reading the analog measurements, reading the fault bit strings, etc.
Used with TSX/PMX model 40 PLCs, the TSX AEM 16 module also has an extended register interface for transmitting analog measurements.

2.2-3 Measurement processing
The micro-controller performs the following processes :

2.2-4 Measurement sampling
The cycle time of the module depends on its operating mode, defined during configuration :
- Normal mode : The duration of the conversion cycle is as follows :
T cycle
= 15 ms x 16 channels, that is 240 ms
The converter resolution is 10 bits + sign
- Filtered mode : Depending on the filtering frequency, the duration of the conversion cycle is :
T cycle
= 80 ms x 16 channels, that is 1.28 s, for filtering at 50 Hz
T cycle
= 67 ms x 16 channels, that is 1.072 s, for filtering at 60 Hz
The advantage of this mode is that the fundamental frequency and the PLC supply voltage harmonics (50 or 60 Hz) are suppressed.
The converter resolution is 12 bits + sign.

Access to measurements from the user program
The user receives the measurements via the message interface channels and the extended register interface (only available on model 40 processors).
All the measurements provided to the user are made during the same sampling cycle
(time coherence of measurements in relation to each other).

2.3
Types of processing available
2.3-1 Monitoring for range overshoot
The input range defines the normal limits of operation for the sensor connected to the input.
The declaration of the input range has two principal functions :
• The setting of the error detection limits, which detect range overshoots
• Calculations for scaling
The following table gives the range numbers (to be entered during configuration) and the corresponding normal usage scales, as well as the lower range overshoot limit LL and the higher range overshoot limit HL.

The 1/5 V range is derived, by internal calculation, from the
±

➀
The measured value is within the declared full scale input range :
LL = 0 The module supplies the exact value between 0 and + 10 000
HL = 0
➁
The measured value is within the extended full scale range which solves problems of sensor dispersion :
LL = 0 The module supplies the exact value between -200 and 0
HL = 0 or between 10 000 and 10 200
➂
The measured value is below the LL limit (- 0.4 mA), an overshoot fault is detected and a fault data bit is transmitted to the user program :
LL = 1 The module supplies a value limited to -200
HL = 0
➃
The measured value is above the HL limit (+20.4 mA), an overshoot fault is detected and a fault data bit is transmitted to the user program :
LL = 0
HL = 1
The module supplies a value limited to +10 200
______________________________________________________________________
16
Operation 2
______________________________________________________________________
Fault detection limits
The module sets the fault detection limits according to the declared input range.
When the value of an input signal exceeds these limits, the converter saturates and the corresponding fault bits for the higher limit HL or the lower limit LL are set to 1 (section
4.3, fault bit string BDEF).
______________________________________________________________________
17
______________________________________________________________________
2.3-2 Calculating the square root (for flow rate measurements)
TSX AEM 1601/1602 modules perform square root extraction on request, using the following conventions :
• If the measured value is positive :
Square root of «Measured value» = - 100 x
• If the measured value is negative :
Square root of «Measured value» = - 100 x
The square root is extracted after standardizing the measurement.
Example of an application : flow rate measurement
Narrowing of a pipe creates a difference in pressure dp = p2-p1 related to the flow rate Q by the equation :
Q = K x 2 dp/I where K is a constant that is a function of the shape of the pipe, and l the volume of liquid.
P1
The square root extraction function thus provides a measurement proportional to a flow rate from a differential pressure sensor.
P2

18
Operation 2
______________________________________________________________________
2.3-3 Measurement scaling
TSX AEM 1601/1602 modules have only one measurement scaling mode : the "standard range" scaling mode.
The "standard range" scaling mode provides the user program with the measurement values expressed as a percentage of the full scale range using the following conventions :
• Unipolar range :
The measurements provided by the module are between :
0 and 10 000, that is 0 % and 100.00 % of the full scale range (0 to High Val.).
The overshoots permitted between the error detection limits HL and LL enable the digital values in the extended zone to be obtained.
Extended zone :
- 200 and + 10 200 without square root
- 1 414 (- 200 x 100) and + 10 099
( 10200 x 100) with square root.

2.3-4 Sensor break test
This test is designed to check the continuity of the external circuit. In other words to check the sensor and the connection between it and the input terminals.
If the wiring (line broken) or the sensor is defective, the module detects a fault.
Conditions for performing the test
TSX AEM 1602 module :
For the 4-20 mA input range, if the current measured at an input is 0 mA +/- 80 mA, the module declares a sensor break on this input.
The sensor break test is not available on the 0-20 mA ranges.
The test is continuously performed on all the configured inputs in the 4-20 mA range.
TSX AEM 1601 module :
On the
±
5 V and
±
10 V ranges, a device measures the impedance of the channel sensor
(i + 8) while it samples the channel (i).
The impedance of the connected sensor must be
≤
1 K
Ω
. A sensor break is detected if the sensor impedance is > 100 K
Ω
.
The test is optional for the
±
5 V and
±
10 V ranges. It is only performed if the 4-bit byte
RUP (i) in the configuration table is set to 1 (cf. § 3.2.2).
The test is continuously performed on all the configured inputs in the 1-5 V range.
When a fault is detected, the module :
• Sets the "sensor break fault" bit (fault bit string BDEF) for the corresponding channel to 1.
• Sets the "application fault" bit in the complementary status register word to 1.
• Illuminates the ERR indicator lamp on the front panel of the module.
• Sets the "channel fault" bit for the corresponding channel to 1.
Using the "channel fault" bit prevents measurements being validated when a fault is detected.
The 1-5 V range
The actions mentioned above are inhibited. If the voltage measured is 0
±
20 mV, the sensor break bit is set to 1.

Dialogue with the PLC
2.4-1 General
There are 4 types of data exchange with the PLC processor via the complete I/O bus :
• Discrete interface, with address Ixy,i
• Register interface, with address I/OWxy,i
• Message interface
• Extended register interface x = rack number y = slot number in the rack i = see later in this document
For each of these data exchanges there are corresponding data objects which can be utilized by the user program. The extended register interface is only available on model 40 processors.
_____________________________________________________________________
2.4-2 Discrete interface
TSX AEM 160x modules have a 16 input discrete interface.
The user can access 16 bit objects as well as the fault bit via the program.
Data exchanges are systematically performed during each task cycle in which the module is configured.
The interface indicates the fault status for each channel. Status 1 indicates that the corresponding channel has an application type fault (sensor breaks, range overshoot) and that the application program should ignore the measurement.

2.4-3 Register interface
TSX AEM 1601-1602 modules have eight input word registers and eight output word registers. Data exchanges are performed systematically during each PLC cycle.
8 input register words :
Standard status word IWxy,0
IWxy,1
IWxy,2
IWxy,3
IWxy,4
IWxy,5
IWxy,6
IWxy,7

2 registers are used : IWxy,0 and IWxy,2. They provide 2 status words which give the operating status (operating modes, module fault, etc).
8 output register words :
OWxy,0
OWxy,1
OWxy,2
OWxy,3
OWxy,4
OWxy,5

22
Operation 2
______________________________________________________________________
2.4-4 Message interface
The message interface is used to transfer data tables between the module and the PLC processor. The transfer is programmed via a CPL text block and is initiated by the user program.
This type of dialogue is used for writing and re-reading the configuration, and for reading measurements and associated faults.
Data specific to each transfer is organized into internal words (Wi) or constant words,
CWi, (for transmission only).
A more detailed description of programming using the message interface is given in the sections relating to each exchange :
• Configuration (section 3)
• Reading measurements (section 4.1)
• Processing faults (section 4.3)

Module operating modes
2.5-1 Description
The following flow chart illustrates the operating modes of TSX AEM 160x modules
Initial self-test
1
6
➤ RUN module
2
STOP module
5
Awaiting configuration
4
➤ 3
The module runs an initial self-test procedure 1 on power up, initialization request or following a power break.
If no fault is detected during this procedure, the module then operates in RUN or STOP mode (depending on the value of the standard control word) in the default configuration.
To use the module for an application, it must be configured. To do this the user must program the following :
• Place the module in STOP mode ➂ , if it is not already in this mode
• Transmit the configuration via the message interface ➄
• Set the module to RUN mode ➅ .
If the configuration received is faulty or incomplete the module waits until a valid configuration is received ➄ .
The use of the configuration loading function blocks in the TXT L PL7 PCL and
TXT L PL7 PMS programs (which can only run on V4 generation processors) simplifies the programmming of loading operations for the user.
Once configured and running (RUN module and RUN channel), the module is ready to sample measurements.
Standard discrete data, register data and extended register data are exchanged during each task cycle in which the module is configured.
______________________________________________________________________
24
Operation 2
______________________________________________________________________
2.5-2 Controlling the operating modes
The user has access to a control register word which is used to force the module into the required operating mode.
The status register words give information on the operating mode of the module :
• Initial self-test
• RUN/STOP module
• Awaiting configuration ➃
• Operating in default configuration
_____________________________________________________________________
2.5-3 Behaviour of the module in the event of a power break
The TSX AEM 1601/1602 modules do not have a protected memory. All data is lost
(including the configuration and the threshold values), when they are disconnected from the power supply provided by the PLC.
The module must therefore be reconfigured and the threshold values reprogrammed in the event of:
• A cold restart (SY0 = 1),
• A hot restart, when the power supply reserve has been exhausted
• When the module is installed in the PLC.
All these types of restart are described in the PL7-3, TXT DR PL7-3 V4E and
TSX D 22 002E reference manuals.
Complementary status word bit (IWxy,2,D) indicates when the module is operating in the default configuration. This bit can thus be used to detect the loss of the configuration, and to request that the configuration specific to the application is transferred again (see example in section 3).
_____________________________________________________________________
2.5-4 Effect of faults on the operating modes
When an acquisition or conversion fault is detected on the module, it changes to STOP mode, and remains in this mode until the fault disappears.
When an application (sensor or wiring) fault is detected, the module continues to operate in RUN mode.

3.1
Principle
3.1-1 General
TSX 160x modules require configuration data to adapt them to a given application. This data defines the operating mode of the module and of each of its channels. Selection of the most suitable configuration simplifies the programming required to make use of the measurements provided by the module.
Configuring a module comprises :
• Defining the operating characteristics of the module
• Coding these characteristics, in hexadecimal codes or decimal values
• Transferring the codes and values to the module via a program
Reminder
The "traditional" method of setting up TSX AEM 160 x modules, the only means of set up available for V3 PLCs (TSX P43-30/67-20/87-30), is covered in sub-sections
3.1 to 3.5
The recommended set up method for model 40 PLCs and TXT L PL7 PCL/PMS software is given in sub-section 3.6.
_____________________________________________________________________________
3.1-2 Configuration data
Configuration data comprises :
• The operating mode
• The type of processing for each channel :
- Square root processing
- Range
- Sensor break processing

Configuration data should be coded in a word table located in the W (internal words) zone via a program or in the CW (constant words) zone.
______________________________________________________________________
3.1-3 Default configuration
TSX AEM 1601/1602 modules have a default configuration which enables them to operate immediately they are switched on.
The main function of the default configuration is to test the wiring. It is described in detail in section 3.3.
The default configuration is replaced by the user configuration as soon as it is transmitted by the user program.
___________________________________________________________________________
28
Configuration 3
___________________________________________________________________________
3.1-4 Transmission of configuration data
Once the configuration data has been coded and stored, it must be transmitted to the module.
The configuration data is transmitted from the PLC memory to the module memory via a program (using a CPL text block).
The following procedure must be used to transmit the configuration :
• Set the module to «STOP» mode,
• Wait until the module has stopped,
• Send the configuration via a CPL text block,
• Set the module to «RUN» mode.
Module power up
RUN module with default configuration
STOP module
If module is stopped send user configuration
Note : The configuration may be lost if there is a power break or if the module is removed from its slot. If this happens, the configuration must be sent again.
Set module to RUN mode
_____________________________________________________________________
3.1-5 Bits associated with configuration
Two bits, in the standard and complementary status words (and which can be accessed via a program) are associated with module configuration :
IWxy,0,B : At state 1 this bit indicates that the module is awaiting configuration (in the event of an invalid configuration being received).
IWxy,2,D : At state 1 this bit indicates that the module is operating with the default configuration.

Loading the configuration
3.4-1 Entering data
When the module configuration data has been defined and the corresponding codes determined, the codes must be stored in the PLC memory before they can be transferred to the module.
This can be performed in the W zone, but it is preferable to use the CW zone.
This screen shows an example of a configuration.
Hexadecimal codes are preceded by the letter H.

The confirmation report, TXTi,V, sent back by the module can be used after the data exchange to check that the data has been transmitted correctly. It is H’FE’ if the data exchange is correct, and H’FD’ if not.
Programming the transfer
The transfer should be programmed in the following way :
• Set the module to «STOP» by setting control register bit OWxy,0,C to 0.
• Check that the module has stopped by testing that status word bit IWxy,0,C is at 0.
• Then transfer the configuration. To do this, generate a rising edge on the S input of the text block.
• To check that the transfer has been successful :
- Check that TXTi,E is at 0,
- Check that TXTi,V is H’FE’.
• If the configuration has been successfully received, reset the module to RUN mode by setting the control register word bit
OWxy,0,C to 1.
Bit IWxy,0,C should then change to 1.

Setup software
Setting up TSX AEM 160x modules is simple using PL7-PCL or PL7-PMS (1) software, which provide :
• An operator guide program which enables the user to enter module configuration parameters from an X-TEL workstation (sampling mode and period, input ranges, type of sampling, etc).
For this, it presents all the parameters in the form of a table with the type, limits and definition of each parameter.
This program also provides for :
- Transfers of the parameters between the module, PLC, disk or diskette.
- Print-outs of the parameters.
- Display of parameter changes (measurement of each channel, operating modes, faults, etc).
It uses the dedicated zone technique of model 40 PLCs.
• Two optional function blocks (OFB) specific to the processing of analog measurements which have been added to the other PL7-3 function blocks :
- ANALD (2) for loading the module configuration following a power break or when a module has been replaced.
- ANADG (2) used to monitor for faults which may occur on modules while operating
(for example terminal block fault) or on applications controlled by these modules (for example sensor break). Faults detected in this way are formatted for use by the
APPLIDIAG program (under the Software Workshop) or the DIAG program (under
MINI MONITOR 37).
Restrictions
PL7-PCL software can only by used on model 40 processors, version 4.3 or above.
PL7-PMS software can only be used on PMX type processors.

Using the measurements in message mode
This operating mode is only available to V3 TSX PLCs (TSX P47-30/67-20/87-30).
____________________________________________________________________
4.1-1 Accessing the measurements
In message mode the measurements are transmitted in 16 internal words (Wi) in response to the request «Read measurements».
This request is programmed using a CPL type text block in transmit/receive mode, with the following characteristics :
• Request code : TXTi,C = 1
• Address : TXTi,M = H’xy00’ (where x = Rack n
°
and y = Slot n
°
)
• Reception table : Wi[16] table of 16 words (32 bytes) containing the 16 measurements
(where Wi = channel 0 measurement, Wi+ 1 = channel 1 measurement, and so on, to Wi+ 15 = channel 15 measurement).
• It is not necessary to define a transmission table.
Confirmation reports : TXTi,V = H’81' if exchange correct, or H’FD’ if incorrect.
TXTi,S = 32 bytes if exchange correct (TXTi,E = 0).
Note :
If the module is in STOP mode, the measurements transmitted are not actual measurements, but the last measurements acquired before the module was stopped.
Conditions for validity and the digital-analog correspondence of the measurements are identical to those for accessing measurements in extended register mode (see section 4.2).

Additional programming information
The information in this section relates to the "traditional" method of setting up
TSX AEM 160x modules, which is the only method available for TSX V3 PLCs
(TSX 47-30/67-20/87-30). It is given for information only, as its use is optional.
Using TSX or PMX model 40 PLCs with PL7-PCL and PL7- PMS software means that the traditional method can be done away with completely as they provide the user with equivalent services.
The table on page 49 summarizes the differences between setting up using PL7-3 (with
TSX V3 PLCs) and that using PL7-PCL/PMS (with model 40 PLCs).

4.3-1 Fault processing (optional)
The user can utilize a program to accurately identify faults occurring on a TSX AEM
1601/1602 module or its external environment.
Types of faults
Faults which occur on a TSX AEM 1601/1602 module can be classified into three categories, according to their degree of gravity and their effect on the operation of the module :
• Blocking faults :
These are failures in the module processor or the interface to the bus. The module processor is halted, and no data exchange on the bus is possible.
• Module acquisition and conversion faults :
These are faults which occur on the measurement acquisition and conversion circuits in the module. The measurements are no longer valid and the module is forced to stop.
• Application faults :
These are caused by factors outside the module (range overshoot, sensor breaks, etc). They may occur on one channel only, while the other channels continue to operate correctly. The faulty channel is indicated to the user.

Programming without reading the fault bit string
When a fault disappears, bits IWxy,0,4 and IWxy,0,i (i = 6 or 7) remain at 1.
The fault is permanently memorized until the module is re-initialized.

IWxy,0,4
However, the indicator lamps and the fault bit Ixy,S change state as soon as the fault disappears.

For this reason, bits IW,xy,0,i (i = 6 or 7) should not be used in programming.

Reading the fault bit string
The fault bit string is read via the text block. It is optional and its main purpose is the accurate location of faults.
The content of the bit string is described on the preceding pages.
The action of reading the fault bit string
(BDEF) acknowledges a fault detected by bits IWxy,0,4, and IWxy,0,i (i = 6 or 7), after it has disappeared, whether the reading takes place before or after the disappearance of the fault.
IWxy,0, bit 4,6 and 7 change to zero :
• When the fault disappears, if they have been acknowledged by reading the fault bits.
• When the fault bits are read after the fault has disappeared.
The message read after detection of fault n
°

°
2.

The user will not be informed of the second fault IWxy,0,4 and IWxy,0,i = 1, (i = 6 or 7) until the first fault has disappeared. Thus fault n
°
2 can only be acknowledged after a new reading of the fault bit string.
It is therefore necessary to sample the fault bit string continuously to detect the appearance or disappearance of new faults.

How the received bit string is used depends on the requirements of the user. He may simply wish to keep the bits in internal words and read them in ADJUST or DATA mode on the TSX T507 terminal. Or he may wish to store them in word tables so that the development of faults can be displayed.

4.3-3 Re-reading the configuration
Re-reading the configuration consists of transferring the configuration data from the module memory to the PLC memory. The configuration is read as a whole.
For this, the user must program a transmit/receive text block.
Characteristics of the text block (TSX 47-30/47-40/67/87/107)
The text block should have the following characteristics :
• CPL type : to enable exchange between the user program and the module.
• Request code : TXTi,C = H’41'
• Address and channel number :
TXTi,M = H’xy63'
• It is not necessary to define a transmission table.
TXTi,L = 0
• The reception table length must be 34 bytes to be able to receive the whole configuration.

Description
To establish a central measurement acquisition station for :
• 16 measurements from 4-20 mA sensors
• 16 measurements from 0-10 V sensors
The following processing is necessary :
Acquisition will be at the normal rate for TSX AEM 160x modules, that is 240 ms. After checking for validity (no sensor break, measurement within valid period) the measurements are smoothed using a 1st order filter before being transferred to an external device (display unit / recording unit).

Note
This example will only deal with the processing of measurements via the programming of
TSX AEM 16 modules. The assumption is made that the module is connected on a UNI-TELWAY bus, and thus can be accessed via UNI-TE protocol requests.

Measurements are obtained using 2 modules :
• A TSX AEM 1601 for the 16 0-10 V measurements.
• A TSX AEM 1602 for the 16 4-20 mA measurements.
The modules provide the CPU with both the measurement values and the data for checking their validity.
Checks are performed by the CPU using this data. If a measurement is invalid, it is replaced by the value - 2000.

Configuration of the TSX AEM 160x modules
• TSX AEM 1601 : NORMAL mode
All 16 channels are configured in the same way :
- Without square root
- Range -10/+10V (of which only the 0-10 V part is used)
- Sensor break test activated
• TSX AEM 1602 : NORMAL mode
All 16 channels are set up for 4-20 mA (NB : the sensor break test is implicit in this measurement range).
It is assumed that the first 8 channels are assigned to flow rate measurements, for which the special "square root extraction" function is required.

Analysis
The acquisition speed is 240 ms for 16 channels, and it is usual to adopt an identical time period for processing.
Task AUX0 will be used to read measurements, and perform the checking and filtering processes as well as managing the modules.

Filtering
Filtering is performed by a subroutine, giving improved program legibility. The storage buffer is located in W200 (32 words). The contents of the buffer will be transferred to the processing device via a text block TXT (or a function block if the processor used is a model 40).

5.2
Implementation using a V3 PLC
The AEM module configuration parameters are entered using PL7-3 in CONFIGURATION mode.
The PLC memory is transferred to the module memory via a text block using request code H'40".
The measurements are read using text blocks (request code 1).
Processed measurements are transferred to the device which will use them using a text block (programming for this part of the processing is provided without being explicitly stated).
Selecting the processor
Since there is a small number of modules (< 4) and little processing to be performed, a
TSX 47-30 PLC will be suitable for this type of application.

5.3
Implementation using a V4 PLC
Introduction
Model 40 PLCs can be programmed using the method described in sub-section 5.2. In fact it is the only method for PLCs which are version 4.3 and below. However, from version
4.3 onwards, it is preferable to use methods specific to Model 40 PLCs in order to make use of their new features and the features of the PL7-PCL and PL7-PMS installation software :
• Division of the PLC memory into dedicated zones
• Function blocks
Differences as compared with implementation using a V3 PLC
• AEM module configuration parameters are entered using PL7-PCL or PL7-PMS installation software in CONFIGURATION mode.
• These parameters are transferred from the PLC memory to the module memory using an Optional Function Block (ANALD or AEMLD).
• The measurements are read via the Extended Register interface (READEXT instruction).
• The processed measurements are transferred to the device which will use them using an OFB (COMUW) (programming for this part of the processing is provided without being explicitly stated).
Selecting the processor
A TSX P47-420 is selected for the same reasons that a TSX P47-30 was chosen in sub-section 5.2. The built-in UNI-TELWAY port removes the necessity for the
TSX SCM 21 module.
Configuring the synchronous tasks
Identical method to that described in paragraph 5.2 :
74F00506.TIF
______________________________________________________________________
67
______________________________________________________________________
Entering the I/O configuration for the application
1. Enter the codes for the modules used.
74F00507.TIF
2. Assign the TSX AEM 16 modules to task AUX0.
Entering the configuration parameters
These are entered using the PL7-PCL or PL7-PMS set up software, in CONFIGURATION mode (refer to the TSX DM PL7 PCL V4E or TXT DM PL7 PMS V4E manuals).
Assigning the function blocks
The text blocks in paragraph 5.2 are replaced by function blocks. If the installation is performed using the PL7-PCL software :
• The ANALD0 function block is reserved for the TSX AEM 1601 module
• The ANALD1 function block is reserved for the TSX AEM 1602 module
In the same way, assuming that the UNI-TELWAY processor port is implemented using the PL7-COM (1) program, function block COMUW0 is reserved for the exchange of data with the user device.
Note
To complete the comparison with the assignment of text blocks in sub-section 5.2, it should be noted that no function block is necessary for accessing measurements provided by the modules.
(1) Communication software - complete reference : TXT L PL7 CMM V42 E.

68
Application example 5
Assigning the PL7-3 variables
This is similar to the process described in sub-section 5.2, but :
• The read buffer for raw measurements from the AEM 1601 module is in W99 [17].
• The read buffer for raw measurements from the AEM 1602 is in W119 [17].
This is so that the measurements occupy the same positions in the memory (W100 to W115 and W120 to W135).
The channel status word occupies positions W99 and W119.

6.3-2 Connection principle
It is advisable to take the following precautions to protect the signal from induced outside noise in serial mode and from common mode noise :
Type of cable
Use screened twisted pairs, with a minimum cross-section of 0.22 mm 2 .
_____________________________________________________________________
81
_____________________________________________________________________
Cable screening
Since there are a large number of channels, a cable with a minimum of 16 twisted pairs and general screening (external ø 15 mm max.) should be used for connecting the BLK 4 terminal block and the intermediate terminal block. Twisted pair cables with separate screening should be used for connecting the intermediate terminal block and the sensors.
The cable screening should be connected to the PLC earth (ground) through a
TSX RAC 20 grounding strip which must be fitted to the PLC rack.
Routing the cables :
• The measurement cables must be kept away from the discrete I/O cables (especially the relay outputs) and the power cables.
• Parallel routing must be avoided (a minimum distance of 20cm must be maintained between cables) and wires should be crossed at right angles.
_____________________________________________________________________
6.3-3 Referencing the channel inputs and sensors
TSX AEM 1601/1602 modules have 16 inputs which have a common point but are isolated from the PLC bus.
For safety reasons, the module has an RC network (4.7 nF/20 MOhms) for earthing
(grounding) the channel reference voltage.
TSX BLK4
It is preferable to use "floating" sensors
(not referenced to ground).
Example to the right : wiring of four "floating" sensors.

Recalibration
TSX AEM 1601 and TSX AEM 1602 modules are factory preset and checked before delivery.
The high quality of the components used means that any error developing over time will be within the stated limits. However, to enable the user to compensate for any drift which may occur, or for those used to performing regular adjustments, the modules may be recalibrated provided that the correct version of AEM module set up software is available, that is :
• TXT L PL7 PCL V42 version
≥
4.6
• TXT L PL7 PMS V42 version
≥
4.6
As these software packages are only compatible with model 40 PLCs, version 4.3 and above, it is not possible to recalibrate TSX V3 PLCs.
The recalibration procedure is described in the user manuals supplied with the above set up software packages.
