USING THE UNIT SAFELY

Used for instructions intended to alert the user to the risk of death or severe injury should the unit be used improperly.

* Material damage refers to damage or other adverse effects caused with respect to the home and all its furnishings, as well to domestic animals or pets.

The symbol alerts the user to important instructions or warnings.The specific meaning of the symbol is determined by the design contained within the triangle. In the case of the symbol at left, it is used for general cautions, warnings, or alerts to danger.

The symbol alerts the user to items that must never be carried out (are forbidden). The specific thing that must not be done is indicated by the design contained within the circle. In the case of the symbol at left, it means that the unit must never be disassembled.

• Immediately turn the power off, and request servicing by your retailer, the nearest Roland

Service Center, or an authorized Roland distributor, as listed on the “Information” page when:

• Objects have fallen into, or liquid has been spilled onto the unit; or

• The unit has been exposed to rain (or otherwise has become wet); or

• The unit does not appear to operate normally or exhibits a marked change in performance.

Owner’s Manual pages 5 and 6 , please read and observe the following:

• While the automatic keyboard is in operation, avoid doing anything that could hamper the action of the keys, such as using undue force to press a key, or forcing up a depressed key. By doing so, you risk causing malfunction.

Operate During Song Playback

Turning On the Power

* Be sure to follow the steps below when turning the power on or off. By turning on devices in the wrong order, you risk causing malfunction and/or damage to speakers and other devices.

Before you switch on the power, turn the volume fig.00-21 down by rotating the [Volume] knob to “Min.”

• The included power cord is connected to the AC inlet on the bottom of the piano.

• The power cord is correctly connected to the AC outlet.

* Be sure to use the supplied power cord.

Press the [Power] switch.

After a few seconds, the unit becomes operable and playing the keyboard produces sound.

* This unit is equipped with a protection circuit. A brief interval

(a few seconds) after power up is required before the unit will operate normally.

Adjusting the Sound Volume

You can adjusts the overall volume level.

1.

Rotate the [Volume] knob to the left or right.

The volume increases as the knob is rotated to “Max”

(the right) and decreases as the dial is rotated to “Min”

(the left).

The mark to the upper right of the Volume knob indicates the volume level typically produced by an acoustic piano. This is usually the most appropriate volume for your piano performances.

If you want to play back songs, insert the floppy disk into the disk drive.

This procedure isn’t necessary when you’re playing back preset songs, or songs saved in user memory.

3.

Touch either the < >, < >, or < > icon.

To select songs from disk touch < > (DISK), to select preset songs touch < > (PRESET), or to select songs from user memory touch < > (USER).

4.

Touch < > (All Song Play) on the screen.

Song playback starts, and the keys move in keeping with the song.

All songs are played back in sequence. The on-screen

< > (Play) changes to < > (Stop). When the last song has finished playing, playback then repeats after returning to the first song.

5.

Press the Stop [ ] button or touch < > (Stop) on screen to stop playback of the songs.

* If the keys do not move when you play music files, it could be because a mistake has been made with respect to the Part that

makes the keys move. For details, refer to “Changing the Part

That Makes the Keys Move” (p. 4).

Playing Back a Single Song

Choosing the Song to Play

Back

1.

Press the [Song/Disk] button.

A Song/Disk screen appears.

2.

If you want to play back songs, insert the floppy disk into the disk drive.

This procedure isn’t necessary when you’re playing back preset songs, or songs saved in user memory.

3.

Touch either the < >, < >, or < > icon.

To select songs from disk touch < > (DISK), to select preset songs touch < > (PRESET), or to select songs from user memory touch < > (USER).

Touch Page < > and < > to switch screens, and touch the screen to choose a song.

You can also use the dial to choose a song. When you use the dial, the pages are switched automatically, without having to touch Page < > and < >.

Playing Back a Song

5.

Press the Play [ ] button or touch < > (Play) on the screen to play back the song.

Song playback starts, and the keys move in keeping with the song.

The on-screen < > (Play) changes to < > (Stop).

You can press the [Score] button to display the score for the selected song.

Stopping Song Playback

6.

Press the Stop [ ] button or touch < > (Stop) on screen to stop playback.

If you let the selected song play to the end, playback stops automatically.

The on-screen < > (Stop) changes to < > (Play).

7.

Press the Reset [ ] button to go back to the beginning of the song.

❍ Important Notes about the Automatic

Keyboard

• The keys will not move during recording.

• To ensure more accurate expression during play, separate systems are used for song play and keyboard drive. This means that depending on the song, the movement of the keyboard may differ slightly from song play.

Before you switch off the power, turn the volume down by rotating the [Volume] knob to “Min” all the way.

2.

Press the [Power] switch.

Changing the Part That

Makes the Keys Move

Using the Track Buttons to

Choose the Part That Makes the Keys Move

Upon power-up, the instrument is set so the keys move in keeping with the performances of the Whole, Upper, and

Lower tracks. You can change the parts that key movement will reflect by pressing the Track buttons, and changing the buttons that are lighted.

The following shows the relationship between the Track buttons, played parts, and keyboard movement.

1.

Choose the song to play (p. 3, 4).

2.

Press the Track button you want to have associated with key movement a number of times, until the button’s light is flashing.

Each time you press a Track button, its light changes to the next state, in this order: lighted → extinguished → flashing → lighted →....

3.

Press the Play [ ] button.

Song playback starts, and the keys move in accord with what is played as a result of the flashing Track button or buttons.

Using the 16 Track Sequencer

Screen to Choose the Part That

Makes the Keys Move

You can get the keys to move in keeping with the performance of parts selected with the 16 Track Sequencer screen.

1.

Choose the song to play (p. 3, 4).

2.

Press the [Composer Navigator] button.

The Composer Navigator screen will appear.

3.

Touch <16 Track Sequencer>

The 16 Track Sequencer screen will appear.

4.

Touch the part you want to have associated with key movement.

The following shows the relationship between the indication in the display (icons), played parts, and keyboard movement.

5.

Suppressing Movement of the Automatic Keyboard

1.

Press the [Composer Navigator] button.

The Composer Navigator screen will appear.

2.

Touch <MovingKey> to switch the automatic keyboard on or off.
