INTRODUCTION

Origin Landscape speakers are designed so they can be part of a

70V system or an 8Ω system for smaller installs using a standard receiver. As part of a 70V system, they will need to be paired with a Crown CDi amplifier that has been designed to work with our

Landscape speakers. This manual will specifically cover setup with a Crown CDi amplifier in 70V mode.

• For more detailed information about the Crown CDi amplifier, refer to the Crown Operation Manual.

• For useful information about the relative merits of different wiring plans you may want to refer to the speaker installation manual (available on-line).

To connect your audio source to the Crown amplifier you will usually need cables with RCA connectors on the source end and bare wire on the Landscape amplifier end. The Crown amplifier channels are labeled CH1 and CH2. Both channels are identical.

Attach the bare wires from your cable to the Phoenix style connector provided in the amplifier box. Note the location of the positive and ground wires on the Phoenix connector. You must run a jumper wire from the ground terminal to the negative terminal; see Figure 1.

Balanced

When using the Origin Landscape series in a commercial installation it might be necessary to connect the amplifier using balanced wiring. Connect the wires from your source equipment to the Phoenix connector. Be sure to observe proper polarity when connecting the wires to the Phoenix connector. If your source equipment uses XLR connectors please confirm the polarity or pin out of your source equipment before terminating the Phoenix connector. see figure 2

Output Connections

Terminating the wires

Attach the supplied spade connectors to the ends of your speaker cables. Once the connectors are installed then connect the spades to the output connectors on the amplifier. Once your connections are finished place the supplied plastic cover over the connectors to prevent a short circuit or shock hazard.

CAUTION

Do not connect speaker wires to the amplifier until all other connections are completed.

WHICH PRESET TO USE?

The Crown CDi series amplifier you purchased from Origin Acoustics is preloaded with 18 presets to allow allow you to optimally configure your sound system for practically any circumstance.

The presets have been divided into two families -- the Active

Crossover family and the Passive Crossover family.

The Active Crossover family is recommended for most installs. It will have the subwoofers on one wire run (must be channel 1) and the satellite speakers on the other (must be channel 2). The active crossover removes the bass from the satellites, more effectively controls how the subwoofer interfaces with the satellites and allows the custom DSP (digital signal processing) to fed only to the speakers they were designed for.

• Preset 8 is designed to make the LS 64 sound full range when no subwoofer is to be used.

• Presets 15-19 require 2 or more amplifiers. They are intended for larger installs and also give you greater control over the balance between the subwoofer and the satellites.

• The Passive Crossover family, which is the approach you may be most familiar with, allows satellites and subwoofers to be on a single wire run.

• Presets 6 & 7 use the amplifier in bridged mode if only one channel is available. This is anticipated to be used when wire is pre-existing from a previous install.

HOW MANY SPEAKERS CAN BE

RUN ON EACH CHANNEL?

Origin Landscape speakers use an adjustable 70 volt transformer that not only let you to set speaker’s volume level relative to the other speakers in the system, but also allows you to increase the number of speakers that can be run on each channel. The chart below shows the maximum number of speakers you can use before the load becomes unsafe for the Crown CDi amplifiers (2Ω load). If you’re using the amplifier in bridged mode you’ll need to divide the maximum speaker number in half.
