We hope you will enjoy weaving on it for years to come. The Spring II is a floor loom with a countermarch system. It is available in 90 or 110 cm weaving widths, with either 8 or 12 shafts. The 8 shaft version is expandable to 12 with a 4 shaft extension set. The Spring has been redesigned in 2020 and this version is more robust, heavier, with a new standing beater and an improved brake system. The unique parallel countermarch system developed by Louët guarantees light treadling and a large shed with equal tension on all warp threads. The floating breast beam ensures that the tension on the warp remains the same, every time you advance your warp. Tying the treadle is easy with the pre-cut tie-up cords. The warp beam can be folded inward; in the folded position the depth of the loom is 28 7/8 “. The breast and cloth beams and the reed can be easily removed allowing easy access to the heddles during the threading of the warp. In the online helpdesk (see link) you will find an instruction for setting up the warp (search for ‘set up warp’). IMPORTANT INTRODUCTIE • Nederlands The loom is partially pre-assembled and all cords are adjusted to the right length. Follow the manual carefully and do not change the settings of the height of the lamms and shafts. Read the user instructions for the countermarche for the correct tie-up. This manual guides you step-by-step through the final assembly. In the second section you will find usage tips and an overview of the available extra accessories and spareparts. BELANGRIJK Spring II – V3 – EN/NL Het getouw is gedeeltelijk voorgemonteerd en alle koorden zijn op de goede lengte afgesteld. Volg de handleiding nauwkeurig en verander niets aan de instellingen van de hoogte van de schemels en schachtlatten. Lees de gebruikersinstructies voor de contramarche voor het correct aanbinden. Deze handleiding begeleidt je stapsgewijs door de eindmontage. In het tweede gedeelte vind je gebruikstips en een overzicht van de beschikbare extra accessoires en reserve-onderdelen. INTRODUCTION • INTRODUCTIE Gefeliciteerd met de aanschaf van het Spring II weefgetouw. We hopen dat je er jaren lang met plezier op zult weven. De Spring II is een trappergetouw met contramars systeem. Verkrijgbaar in 90 of 110 cm weefbreedte met naar keuze in 8 of 12 schachten. De 8-schachts versie is uitbreidbaar met 4 extra schachten en trappers. De Spring is in 2020 volledig herzien en deze versie heeft een zwaardere uitvoering van het houten gedeelte, staande rietlade en een verbeterd opboomsysteem. Het unieke door Louët ontwikkelde parallele contramars systeem garandeert een lichte bediening en een grote sprong met gelijke spanning op alle scheringdraden. Dankzij de verende borstboom blijft de spanning op de schering steeds gelijk. Het aanbinden van de trappers is eenvoudig met de op maat gemaakte trapperkoorden. De scheerboom kan worden ingeklapt waarna de diepte van het getouw 74 cm is. Omdat de borst- en doekboom en het riet eenvoudig verwijderd kunnen worden zijn de hevels makkelijk bereikbaar tijdens het inrijgen van de schering. Open the boxes and hardware bags at the time the instruction indicates that. Hardware is packaged by weight and as a result, sometimes, you will have leftovers. If a part is missing or broken, find the part number (see page 70 and send an email to customer service (see page 3). Screw holes are pre-drilled in the wood. Use the Pz2-screwdriver provided. The screw cuts a thread into the wood. If you need to remove a screw and later replace it, make sure you use the existing thread in the wood. The best way to do that is to insert the screw and turn it in the opposite the direction, un-screwing, until you feel it fall into the original groove. Then replace and tighten the screw again. SCHROEF • English In de handleiding wordt steeds aangegeven welke schroef je moet gebruiken. De schroefgaten zijn voorgeboord in het hout. Gebruik meegeleverde Pz2schroevendraaier. The small washer is positioned under the head of the bolt and the larger washer is between the pawl and the wood. Insert the bolt from the side that has the 18 mm hole and the long slot. When fastening, the bolt cuts a thread into the wood of the handle. Do not fasten the handle completely, so that the handle can rotate freely. 8B Take the 5 x 112 mm shaft and insert it through the hole in the middle of the axle of the • Nederlands warp beam, protruding equally on both sides. Then slide the brake disc onto the axle and push the shaft into the slot of the brake disc. 8A Monteer het handvat aan de remschijf. Use the 2 46 8F Insert the M8 x 80 mm carriage bolt from the inside through the hole just below the brake disc, slide the large washer onto it, then the short steel bushing, a small washer and then the longer steel bushing. Enough thread should protrude to pull the neck of the bolt into the wood when you tighten the cap nut. 8F.1 To prevent the head from turning, hit it with a hammer so that the square part of the head is forced into the wood. 8G Unscrew the cap nut and slide the brake lever around the bushing. Slide the last washer on the bolt and 8G.1 screw the cap the cap nut firmly. • Nederlands 8F Steek de slotbout M8 x 80 mm van binnen uit door het gat vlak onder de remschijf, schuif er de grote 8 mm ring op, dan de korte stalen bus, een kleine 8 mm ring en dan de langere stalen bus. Correct the position of the eye if necessary. Its position must be perpendicular to the screw hook when it is connected to the brake cable. 8I Hook one of the springs to the screw head closest to the pivot point of the lever, and • Nederlands the other end of this spring to the screw head on the warp beam support. Ask someone to hold the lever up (slightly above horizontal) so that the spring stays in place. If you don’t have help, you can also hold the lever up with your knee. 8H Steek het opengebogen draadoog door het oog van de strijkboombevestiging, leg er de grote 6 mm ring om en schroef de kartelmoer er een stukje op. Hook the other spring on the end of the brake cable and onto the other screw head on the brake lever. 8K Tighten the cable by turning the knurled nut until the brake lever is slightly above • Nederlands horizontal. Releasing the lever, it will lower slightly below horizontal. Correct this by lifting the brake lever slightly again and turning the knurled nut near the cable. 8J Neem de remkabel, haak die aan het draadoog boven de remschijf en leid de kabel één slag tegen de klok in de groef van de remschijf. Bij de Spring-II is het systeem iets gewijzigd, waardoor de schachtlatten breder zijn en er meer ruimte is voor de hevels. Louëts parallelle contramars heeft het voordeel dat het veel compacter en stabieler is. De schachten en schemels bewegen volledig horizontaal op en neer. Bij de contramars wordt de trapper aan schemels verbonden. Deze schemels en de schachten zijn aan de koorden van de parallelle contramars verbonden. Elke schacht heeft twee schemels: de bovenste schemel trekt een schacht naar beneden. Een verbinding van de trapper aan de onderste schemel trekt een schacht omhoog. Op de tekening is een weergave van de opwaartse beweging van een schacht te zien bij het naar beneden duwen van een trapper die verbonden is aan de onderste schemel van een schacht. 1. LOUET’S PARALLEL COUNTERMARCH SYSTEM • LOUET PARALLELLE CONTRAMARS Jan Louët developed the unique parallel countermarch system for Louët’s first countermarche loom ‘Hollandia’ in the 1980s. With the Spring II, the system has been slightly modified. By making the shafts wider there is more space for the heddles. The advantage of countermarch is that when opening the shed, the selected warp threads are pulled upwards and at the same time the remaining warp threads are pulled downwards. This creates a large shed with equal tension on all warp ends. In the traditional countermarch, this was achieved by a large structure on top of the loom. Louët’s parallel countermarch has the advantage of being much more compact and stable. The shafts and lamms all move up and down in perfect horizontal position. In the countermarch, a treadle is tied to two sets of lamms. The lamms and the shafts are attached to the cords of the parallel countermarch. Each shaft has two lamms: the upper lamm pulls a shaft downwards. The lower lamm pulls a shaft upwards. The drawing shows a representation of the upwards movement of a shaft when pressing a treadle connected to the lower lamm of a shaft. The exact height of the shafts is determined by the place where the warp end goes through the eye of the heddle. With the shafts locked by the blocking pin, the warp end runs through the middle of the eye of the heddle at shaft 1, and near the top of the heddle eye at shaft 12 . Only in exceptional circumstances will the heights have to be adjusted again. Please contact support by e-mail (see page 2) before adjusting shaft and lamm heights. In the event that an adjustment needs to be made, you only do so while there is a warp on the loom, and your cloth has been advanced past the breast beam and the treadles are tied-up Spring II – V3 – EN/NL BELANGRIJK: Bij een nieuw getouw is de alles perfect afgesteld. Controleer daarna of de koorden weer correct lopen; de buitenste koorden liggen tussen uitsteeksels van schachtbevestiging; de binnenste koorden lopen tussen de schachten. 5. ADDING AND MOVING HEDDLES • AANBRENGEN EN VERPLAATSEN VAN HEVELS • Lock the shafts with the blocking pin Pull the cord hook with the white nut one side off the top shaft bar, but leave that hook in the cord! Hang the heddle bundle over the top shaft bar and click the hook back on the shaft. Now pull the cord hook of the lower shaft bar. Insert the lower shaft bar through the lower loop of bundle heddles. Remove the binding strips and spread the heddles. Click the hook back on the bottom shaft bar. Check that the cords are running correctly again; the outer cords go between the shafthooks and the inner cords between the shafts 62 • English 63 6. WARPING: RADDLE COVER AND OTHER WARPING TIPS 6A Slide the raddle covers over the raddle. Put the warp on the cover before the threads are distributed. As soon as the warp threads are in the raddle, you can slide an other raddle cover over the raddle from the other side to prevent the threads from going out of the raddle while warping. After warping remove the raddle covers and then lift the warp out of the raddle. • Nederlands 6B Use of the clamps. The clamps are a tool that can come in handy at all kinds of times when setting up a warp. In this photo you can see how the reed is clamped flat on the lower beater bar for threading the reed. One of the warping sticks is on top of the reed. This allows you to see the reed dents better. Dit maakt dat je de de rietopeningen beter ziet. ADJUST BEATER SETTINGS The fine adjustment of the height of the beater is best done when there is a warp on the loom and you have woven approx 10” so that the apron bar has passed the breast beam. Make sure the treadle tie up is correctly done (see instructions for treadle tie up) and the warp tension is set properly (see instructions floating breast beam). The most important adjustment is that the hinge hooks are adjusted to the same height left and right . When pressing the treadle the lower half of the shed should JUST touch the lower beater bar on both sides 7A. If the beater is askew, this can lead to selvedge problems. Correct the height by first unscrewing the locking nut of the hinge hooks and then turning the hinge hooks in or out; The reed is lowered by turning the hinge hooks clockwise. The reed rises higher by turning the hinge hooks counterclockwise. 7B Use the adjustment jig to determine the correct height of the reed stand. When the beater height is good, tighten the lock nut firmly again. Make sure the hooks point outward, perpendicular to the side support. If the beater does not bump into both buffers, first check that the hinge hooks are perpendicular to the side. BLOCK UNUSED SHAFTS – SINKING SHAFTS Prevent the shafts that you do not use for the weaving project from sinking down by securing them with shaft blocking pin. This is happens more often if there are few shafts and/or few treadles in use or if there is a low tension on the warp. However, we recommend checking that all screws are still tight after the first few months. This is particularly important when the loom is in a dry environment. Check this every year. 13.
