REPLACING TYPE AT-2 OR TYPE AT-3 SOURCE-TRANSFER CONTROL step 4
Remove the input plug from the input receptacle located on the programming panel at the rear of the control and immediately transfer it to the shorting receptacle. See Figure 3.
1
step 10
Connect the ground wire to the underside of the replacement Type AT control enclosure. See Figure 4.
Step 11
Set the timer adjustment dials and operating-mode selector switches on the programming panel of the replacement Type AT control in accordance with the settings of the replaced control, as noted in Step 6.
Failure to immediately place the input plug on the shorting receptacle may result in damage to the voltage sensors and voltage limiters that will render the automatic-transfer scheme inoperative.
step 12
Place the manual/automatic operation selector switch on the replacement Type AT control faceplate in the
“MANUAL” position. See Figure 1.
This procedure short-circuits and isolates the secondaries of the voltage sensors, if furnished, and isolates the voltage transformers.
Step 5
Remove the left-hand entrance bay plug and the righthand entrance bay plug from their receptacles on the programming panel. See Figure 3. On Type AT-2 controls, make note of which source is the “preferred” and which is the “alternate,” so that the replacement control can be set accordingly. If thecontrol isfurnished
with optional remote-indication feature (Catalog
Number Suffix “-Al ‘I): Also remove the remoteindication output plug from its associated receptacle on the programming panel.
step 13
Connect the left-hand entrance bay plug and the righthand entrance bay plug to their receptacles on the programming panel of the replacement Type AT control. See Figure 3. On Type AT-2 controls, make sure that the “preferred” and “alternate” settings are in accordance with the designations noted in Step 5. If
the control is furnished with optional remote-
indicationfeature (Catalog NumberSuflix “-Al ‘): Also
connect the remote-indication output plug to its associated receptacle on the programming panel of the replacement Type AT control.
Step 6
Make note of the tuner-adjustment dial settings on the programming panel, as well as the settings of the operating-mode selector switches on the programming panel, so that the replacement control can be set accordingly. See Figure 3.
Step 7
Discpnnect the ground wire from the underside of the
Type AT control enclosure. See Figure 4.
Step 8
Remove and retain the four W-20X W hex-head stainless-steel cap screws and lo&washers at the top and bottom of the Type AT control enclosure, which secure the control to the telescoping support rails. See
Figure 2. Then remove the Type AT control.
Step 9
Set the replacement Type AT control into place and secure it to the telescoping support rails using the
W-20X W’ hex-head stainless-steel cap screws and lockwashers retained from Step 8. See Figure 2.

Step 14
Remove the four WL20X 1” hex-head zinc-plated cap screws, lo&washers, and flat washers at the top and bottom of the Type AT-12 control enclosure, which secure the control to the upper mounting bracket and to the lower-left and lower-right mounting brackets.
See Figure 18. Retain the hardware.
(d) Remove the lower-center access panel surrounding the Type AT-12 control faceplate, which is secured at the bottom by a l/4”--20X3/4” hex-head stainlesssteel cap screw, lockwasher, and flat washer. See
Figure 15. Retain the hardware.
(e) Proceed to Step 13.
Step 12
For pad-mounted gear models having an “R4”
supplement to the catalog number: Remove the switch operator vertical access panels from both the left-hand and right-hand sides of the low-voltage control compartment, using the following procedure.
(a) Remove the bolted cover labeled “Terminal Blocks” on each side. See Figure 16.
(b) The switch operator vertical access panel on each side of the low-voltage control compartment is secured by live W-20X W hex-head stainless-steel cap screws, lo&washers, and flat washers. See
Figure 16. Two wire leads are connected to the charging-shaft access port switch on the back of each panel. Remove the five screws and associated lockwashers and flat washers from each switch operator vertical access panel, taking care not to damage the wire leads or to bend the terminals of the access port switch. Retain the hardware.
Mark the positions of the leads and disconnect them.
step 15
Remove the lope AT-12 control from the low-voltage control compartment by sliding it forward, to the right, and out from behind the center channel.
Step 16
Insert the replacement Type AT-12 control into the right-hand side of the low-voltage control compartment. Slide it in, then to the left, and behind the center channel.
Step 17
Loosely attach the replacement Type AT-12 control to the upper mounting bracket and to the lower-left and lower-right mounting brackets using the four
W-20X 1” hex-head zinc-plated cap screws, lockwashers, and flat washers retained from Step 14. See
Figure 18. Slide the control forward, toward the center channel, as far as possible. Then securely tighten the screws.
