Basic information

Introduction

Thank you for buying an Argus Rackmount KVM Switch.

The Rackmount KVM RJ45 series comply to RoHS III as well as to the eco directive

2009/125/EU.

To enjoy this product for a long time we recommend to read this manual carefully and especially paying attention to the security advices.

Safety

Intended use

2.1.1 Environmental

This product is only for indoor use and connecting of computers.

Don´t use and store it inside humid rooms or near water.

Don´t use it close to source of heat. The additional heat could lead to overheating and fire.

2.1.2 Disposal

Don´t put this device to normal waste.

Please read the instruction in chapter 8 for disposal of packaging and device.

2.2 General information

Please read this manual carefully before installing or using this product.

Keep this manual and pass it by passing of the product.

Please follow the instructions and warning of this manual before using the product.

The inobservance of this manual can effect violations and damage.

We disclaim liability for violations and damages caused by inobservance of this manual.

2.3 Danger and protection

Don´t damage the cable.

Don´t use patched or damaged cable.

Don´t put the device close to heating.

In case of strange noise or smell pull the power cord out of the socket.

Don´t open the device.

Please ensure, that all cables will be fixed permanently.

Keep the product away from children.

Don´t remove the cable with wet hands (electric strike).

3 Product information

The rackmount KVM RJ45 switches are devices to control different computers over long distances. Depending the model you can control 4-16 computer directly or up to 256 computer by cascading with other switches.

The devices are easy to install without using any additional software.

Toggling between computers will be made by switches at the front of the KVM or by using the integrated On-Screen menue.

These KVMs are comply to the EMC standards EN 55032 Class B und EN 55024. It can cause interferences on radio or other electronic devices by improper use. For proper use use screened network cable up from Cat 5e.

4 Mounting into a rack

1. Take out the KVM and check the package content for completeness or damages.

In case of missing parts or external damages, please contact your local dealer for replacement.

Please keep the original package for shipping in case of warranty case.

2. Take care to shut down all devices first.

3. Takeout the rackmount brackets and fix them with three screws each.

4. Fix the Rackmount KVM into the rack. The needed screws are not in the scope of delivery of the KVM but from the rack.

Installation and implementing 5

5.1 Direct connection

1. Connect a network cable to the KVM using ports 7 (look at pos. 3.4). Follow max. length of 50m. We recommend to use network cable Cat5e or up.

2. Connect the other side of the network cable with the dongle.

3. Connect the dongle with the monitor and USB port of the computer.

4. Repeat this for every computer.

5. Connect Monitor, keyboard and mouse with your console.

6. Connect the external power adapter with the KVM and with the electric grid.

7. The installation is complete.

Tip:

5.2 Cascading

1. Connect the computers like written before.

2. Connect Monitor, keyboard and mouse with your console.

3. Connect another KVM from Argus series, using the console port 5 (look at pos.

3.4).

4. Connect further computers with the additional KVM.

The KVM will always access to the first port. Either from first KVM or (if connected) from last KVM, if several KVMS are linked.

5.3 Operating

1. Hot-Swap

You can connect or disconnect computers without restart the KVM.

2. Turn off and Restart

Normally the rackmount KVM won´t be turned off. In case it´s necessary to turn it off, please follow these instructions:

1. Disconnet the KVM from power.

2. Turn off all linked computers.

3. Wait 10 seconds and connect the KVM to power again.

4. Turn on all linked computers.

5. It´s ready again.

6 Handling

You can control the KVM by using the switches at the front or by using Hotkeys.

6.1 Toggle by switches

Below is shown the KS-3108. The use of the other KVM is accordingly. Please look also at chapter 3.3.

The switches at the front of the device are control buttons as well as LED indicators.

You can switch between the computers by pushing the buttons. The right LEDs show the selected port. The left LEDs show the online status of these ports.

6.2 Toggle by On-Screen menue

To start the On-Screen menue press

„Ctrl“ or „Scroll“ twice.

F2 SCAN

The GOTO function allows you to switch directly to the connection port by typing the port name or its port number.

The "SCAN" function allows you to perform automatic port scanning of the connected computers. Users can switch ports in order to view the corresponding port computer status.

The SCAN function can automatically scan from current selected port, the scan interval can be set by users.

When scanning, a small window on the screen indicates the current port number.

Press [Space] to stop scanning, and the KVM switches to the port last scanned.

F3 LIST Choose between different view lists.

POWERED ON Shows only turned on computers.

POWERED ON+ Shows turned on computers from Quick View list.

QVIEW+NAME Shows named ports from Quick View list.

NAME Shows only named ports.

Choose option with arrow keys and press Enter.

Selects a port for Quick View. Selection will be shown by a triangle.

Deselect port by pressing F4 again

Give a name to a port. Choose first a port and then press F5.

Then entert he name of the port.

Set up On-Screen menue.

Choose option with arrow keys and press Enter.

OSD ACTIVATING HOTKEY

Short keys to open the OSD.

CTRL + CTRL HOTKEY is Ctrl

SCRLL + SCRLL HOTKEY is Scrl

ALT + ALT HOTKEY is Alt

SHIFT + SHIFT HOTKEY is Shift

SWITCH HOTKEY

Short keys to switch ports.

CTRL + CTRL + NUM HOTKEY is Ctrl.

SCRLL + SCRLL + NUM HOTKEY is Scrl

ALT + ALT + NUM HOTKEY is Alt

SHIFT + SHIFT + NUM HOTKEY is Shift

NUM is the wished port (E.g. 2 for port 2).

SCAN DURATION

Selects the scan interval

Possible: 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40 and 60 seconds

SCAN DURATION

Selects scan duration for each port

SET PASSWORD

Change password

SET SUPER PASSWORD

Change administrator password

CLEAR THE NAME LIST

Delete name list. Password necessary.

RESTORE DEFAULT VALUE

Password is necessary. After restore password is deleted.

LOCK CONSOLE

Locks/ Unlocks the control of ports by switches and OSD. Password necessary.

Maintenance

This device needs no maintenance which requires opening of the housing or working inside the device.

9 Disposal

Please dispose your product by using the special discharge point for electronic waste.

Please ask your municipality or disposal company in case of further questions.

Card boards and plastics of packaging can be disposed by using the usual way of disposal of these materials.

10 Warranty terms

Inter-Tech grants 24 months warranty by proper use up from the date of purchase.

In case of warranty please contact your local dealer or the dealer from which you bought the product.

We will grant no warranty by:

- Missing or damaged warranty seal,

- Negligent behavior,

- Improper use,

- Nonobservance of the manual,

- External violence,

- Acts of god,

- Damages caused by manipulation, upgrading, updating or reconstruction of hardware or software

- Damages caused by other harm,

In case of data loss Inter-Tech will only be liable at wanton negligence or deliberate intention or, in all other cases, only for the recovery of data from a continous, daily backup. Inter-Tech does not assume liability for all other matters.
