Understanding ScanPoint User Roles
All users access ScanPoint via a secure account with specific role-based privileges and restrictions.
The five user roles are
• Clinical
• Technical
• Team Administrator (also called Account Administrator)
• Document Security Officer
• Patient Administrator
Users can have multiple roles within a team. For more information on teams, please refer to
“Understanding ScanPoint Teams” on page 16.
Clinical User
A clinical account typically belongs to the doctor, nurse, clinician, or healthcare worker who actually performs and annotates patient exams. The default home page for clinical users is the
Clinical users are assigned to teams made up of one or more clinical users assigned to use a particular ScanPoint-enabled instrument or set of instruments. Specifically, a team is defined as the group of users associated with a set of instrument part numbers and serial numbers. The clinical users assigned to a particular team have use rights to the instruments assigned to that team.

A second part of the Document Security Officer’s mandate would be to assure compliance with
HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) security rules in all transactions between ScanPoint and your facility’s EHR systems. This includes implementation of hardware, software and/or procedural mechanisms that record and examine activity in information systems that contain or use protected health information.
The Document Security Officer:
• Configures and tests the IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) Cross-Enterprise
Document Sharing (XDS) Registry and authentication
• Configures and tests HL7 (Health Level 7) options
• Tests the system configuration
• Makes the EHR connection live for team members

Understanding ScanPoint Teams ScanPoint ® 3.0 Image Management Technology
Understanding ScanPoint Teams
In the ScanPoint environment, an instrument team is a group of users (Clinical, Technical,
Document Security Officers and Team/Patient Administrators) associated with a particular
ScanPoint-enabled instrument, or set of instruments.
All ScanPoint users may request membership on an instrument team. These teams may include only a few people, or extend to an entire department or ward.
The Team Administrator assigns users to an instrument team based on requests from individual users to join a team. Team Administrators may also add new users to teams without a request to join the team using the “Add a login to the team” function explained on page 71.
Viewing Team Membership Status
Opening the My Account page allows users to view their team membership status (Figure 5):
Figure 5: My Teams pane on My Account page
The My Teams pane displays team details including the team name, a link to contact the Team
Administrator (in this case, John Smith), and the roles the user plays in the team (PSATC). There is also a link to Unsubscribe from the team. If the team details line ends with the word
“Pending”, the Team Administrator has not yet approved the user’s membership request.
Team membership status can be classified as:
• Active: Users with active memberships in a particular team can exercise all functions available for their user role(s) for that team.
• Under Review: Users whose memberships are under review failed an identity challenge.
Their team functions are suspended and they cannot access ScanPoint without assistance from Verathon Medical Customer Care.
For example, Clinical users whose memberships are under review do not have access to patient exam records. Technical users cannot schedule or perform instrument calibrations while their membership is under review.
Users who fail identity challenges at login may have their memberships placed under review until the Team Administrator reinstates them.
Joining a Team
You can apply to join an instrument team by going to the My Teams pane of your My Account page and clicking Join Another Team.
Comprehensive User’s Manual page 16

Uploading Exams with ActiveX Controls
NOTE: This section applies ONLY to users of BladderScan ® BVI 6000 series instruments that DO
NOT use the QuickPrint desktop utility to enable communications between their ScanPoint docking station and their Web-based ScanPoint account. All other users should skip this section and begin with “Uploading Exams with QuickPrint” on page 51.
ActiveX controls are distributed applications that work over the Internet through Web browsers.
Early versions of ScanPoint used ActiveX control to communicate between the instrument and the Web-based ScanPoint account. Newer versions of ScanPoint use the QuickPrint desktop utility to enable this communication.
The ScanPoint with ActiveX installer installs drivers for the ScanPoint docking station and preinstalls the ActiveX control. Users with the ActiveX control should be provided with sufficient privileges to install updates to the ActiveX control when necessary. The primary reason for updates is to renew the security certificate of the ActiveX control.
For instructions on connecting a docking station to the ScanPoint host computer, please refer to page 29 of this manual.

To view all exams for a particular patient:
• From the Review History screen, click the Patient Name or Patient ID number.
• Alternately, from the Navigation Panel, select a patient’s name.
The Patient History page will open (Figure 47). This page has two sections:
• Exam Record: The center panel lists all exams performed on this patient in reverse chronological order.
• Results Charts: The small charts on the right side of the page aggregate exam data of the same type, allowing clinicians to review changes in these measurements over time.
Four charts will be displayed: o Post-void BladderScan ® -- this chart aggregates bladder volume measurements, in milliliters. o BladderScan ® UEBW – this chart aggregates measurements of bladder wall mass (ultrasound-estimated bladder weight (UEBW) taken by BladderScan
BVM 6500 or BVM 9500 instruments. o FloPoint ® Elite – this chart aggregates peak urinary flow measurements from
FloPoint Elite Uroflow Systems. o AortaScan ® -- this chart aggregates measurements of abdominal aortic diameter taken from AortaScan ® AMI 9700 or BladderScan BVI 9600 instruments.
NOTE: The Post-void BladderScan ® chart will only populate with exam data if the bladder volume measurements are taken within 20 minutes after a FloPoint Elite exam, so that they are truly identified as post-void residual (PVR) bladder volume measurements.
NOTE: Pre-void bladder volume measurements are not aggregated into a Results Chart, as they lack the utility of a PVR measurement in helping with the diagnosis and treatment of conditions such bladder outlet obstruction (BOO).
NOTE: One or more of the charts will not be populated with data if your facility does not use the instrument associated with this type of measurement.

Understanding BladderScan Images
Exam images generated by BladderScan BVI 6000 series and BVI 9000 series instruments utilize orientation icons (Figure 58) to assist with image interpretation.
Figure 58: An orientation icon is displayed in the upper left corner of each bladder volume scan image.
The circled image represents the instrument Probe: the circle represents the transducer (black rounded end) and the rectangle represents the handgrip. The white dot in the icon corresponds to the dot displayed at the upper left of the scan image.
All BladderScan bladder volume and bladder mass measurements should be taken with the Probe held
perpendicular to the patient’s spine, with the handgrip pointing to the patient’s right side.
AortaScan ® measurements are taken with the Probe
parallel to the spine, placed on the midline of the abdomen.
Assuming correct orientation of the Probe during a bladder volume measurement:
Indicates that the scan was taken in the sagittal plane, with the left side of the image towards the patient’s feet.
Indicates that the scan was taken in the transverse plane, with the left side of the image toward the patient’s right side.

Setting Up Teams
Teams are made up of one or more Clinical and/or Technical users assigned to use a particular
ScanPoint-enabled instrument or set of instruments. Specifically, a team is defined as the group of users associated with a set of instrument part numbers and serial numbers. The Clinical users assigned to a particular team have use rights to the instruments assigned to that team.
For example, a team may include several Clinical users (physicians or nurses) assigned to use a particular BladderScan ® bladder volume instrument and FloPoint ® Elite instrument assigned to their clinic within a larger facility. The team may also include a Technical user (a biomedical technician) assigned to calibrate and maintain those instruments.
To create new teams around a set of instruments, the Team Administrator must contact Verathon
Medical Customer Care for assistance. The Team Administrator will need to furnish the following information:
• Team Name
• A list of instrument part numbers and serial numbers to associate with the team.
To get contact information for Verathon Medical Customer Care or the subsidiary in your market, please visit: www.verathon.com/ContactUs.htm.
Once Verathon Medical Customer Care has established the team, you may add a login for the team and begin to add users via membership requests from users.
Granting Team Membership
Clinical and Technical users can request membership in an instrument team using the
Join Another Team button on their My Account page. The Team Administrator can approve or deny their requests.
Team membership can include a specified work location and audit log access privileges.

Disabling Team Membership
When an employee leaves the account team, the Team Administrator can disable the user’s login name and prevent further access to the patient records for that instrument account. Disabling the account prevents access to all exam records for that instrument account.
When you deactivate a user’s membership on an instrument team, an email is sent to the administrators of all other teams of which the user is a member asking for confirmation that the user is still active in their team. The other administrators can then confirm or reject the user’s request to remain active in their team.

ScanPoint for Technical Users (Biomedical Engineers)
Overview
The My Instruments page is the default home page for Technical users. The My Instruments page displays a list of instruments assigned to your account. Instruments are listed in reverse chronological order by calibration expiration date, then grouped by model and serial number.
From the My Instruments page, you can schedule instruments for calibration, view calibration reports and inspect the application update history for AortaScan ® and BladderScan ® BVI 9000 series instruments. When you schedule an instrument for calibration, ScanPoint automatically generates an email notice to the Team Administrator three days prior to the scheduled date so that the Team Administrator can have the instrument available for pickup.
The ScanPoint system also generates automatic email notices to you providing a link to instruments requiring calibration within the next 35 days.
Calibrating Your Instruments
AortaScan ® , BladderScan ® and FloPoint ® Elite instruments require the following periodic maintenance activities:
• Appropriate cleaning after use (see the instrument’s user manual for details)
• Weekly inspection for cracks or other damage (see the instrument’s user manual for details)
• Annual calibration to ensure accurate clinical results
The annual calibration process for these instruments takes approximately 15 minutes. You can calibrate your instrument as often as you like; you do not have to wait for the next scheduled calibration date. However, at a minimum, you must calibrate your AortaScan, BladderScan or
FloPoint ® Elite instrument once every 12 months.
NOTE: On BladderScan BVI 6000 series instruments, you will not be able to perform exams if the calibration period has elapsed. You will be able to perform patient exams with a FloPoint Elite or BladderScan BVI 9000 series instruments, but the accuracy of the measurements may be compromised.
NOTE: To calibrate a FloPoint Elite instrument, you should contact Verathon Medical Customer
Care to order the Calibration Fluid 4-pack and a Calibration Quick Reference Card approximately
30 days before your instrument requires calibration. See page 78 for details.

ScanPoint for Document Security Officers ScanPoint ® 3.0 Image Management Technology
ScanPoint for Document Security Officers
Overview
The Document Security Officer is responsible for managing the security and integrity of patient data in exchanges between ScanPoint and third party electronic health record (EHR) systems.
The Document Security Officer uses ScanPoint system audit logs to monitor what actions individual users perform as well as who accessed a particular patient’s exam records. ScanPoint maintains a record of all occurrences of access to patient health information that can be audited at any time.
Document Sharing Registry and authentication
• Configures and tests HL7 (Health Level 7) document transfer options
• Makes the EHR connection live for team members
The My Account page is the default home page for Document Security Officers. The page displays a list of instruments assigned to your account. Instruments are listed in reverse chronological order by calibration expiration date, then grouped by model and serial number.
Audit Logs
Every patient record, exam and user has an associated audit log that tracks each time the record is accessed or edited. These logs may be retrieved as a comma-separated value (CSV) file by a user with the Document Security Officer role.
To access the log for a particular patient, log into ScanPoint. On the My Account tab, select
Patients from the left navigation panel. A page will open that allows you to sort, filter, and search for a particular patient ID. Once you find the patient of interest, check the checkbox at the right of the page and click the Download Patient Audit Log button.
To access the log for a particular user, log into ScanPoint. On the My Account tab, select
Logins. A page will open where you may sort, filter, or search for the members of your teams.
Once you have found the user login of interest, check the checkbox to the right of the page and click the Download Login Audit Log button.
From the Exam Home page:
• Open the Review History or Patient History page and select the desired exam by checking the box in the far right column.
• In the upper right corner, click
to generate an Exam Audit Report. The audit report lists date, time, IP address, user’s login name, full name, address, and account privileges.

An alternate method would be:
• From the Review History or Patient History page, open the desired exam by clicking on the Measurement value. The Exam Results page will open.
• Click
to generate an Exam Audit Report.
Only Document Security Officers can review audit logs. The Team Administrator has the authority to set or remove that role for any user on the team. If a user has exam audit authority, the auditor can open an exam and generate an Exam Audit Report, providing dates, times, user names, and actions that occurred with the exam. Most entries will be for viewing access to patient records, as opposed to annotation or audit access.
NOTE: The start date for the audit log shall be the date of installation of ScanPoint 3.0 on the
ScanPoint servers. Audit logs for access prior to ScanPoint 3.0 are not available through this interface. Should additional logs be necessary, please contact Verathon Medical Customer Care for assistance.
All log files are provided as a comma separated value (CSV) file. If multiple selections are included in the download request, the records for all selections will be intermingled.

ScanPoint for Document Security Officers ScanPoint ® 3.0 Image Management Technology
Managing Patient Demographic Information in ScanPoint
Patient demographic management includes a number of elements. As ScanPoint is a separate patient identity domain from a customer’s EHR system, some form of cross-referencing of patient
IDs is required. This is accomplished by requiring a user to enter a patient ID and Name in the exam record.
Additionally ScanPoint stores a unique ScanPoint ID for each Patient ID and Name combination and tracks all variations and possible combinations of these two items. Local regulations or policy may still prevent entry of the true Patient ID, but in such cases the customer’s EHR system will be required to provide the cross-referencing mechanism between the true Patient ID and the
Patient ID entered in ScanPoint.
Identifiers also have an assigning authority. The assigning authority must be entered, as it is a required element in the patient identifier format defined by HL7.
ScanPoint sends both the user’s ID and the ScanPoint ID in the patient identifier list to support cross-referencing in either ScanPoint or the customer’s EHR system.
The final patient demographic configuration option is the format and validation rule for patient identifiers. Because ScanPoint relies on manual entry by the user of the patient ID, an incorrect identifier could be entered in ScanPoint and create an inconsistency when the exam report is published to the document registry or the observation is sent to the EHR system.
The establishment of a format rule, and the validation of the customer’s Patient ID entry to the format rule, reduces the likelihood of entry of an incorrect identifier into ScanPoint.
The Team Administrator can set the string format on the My Account page. The format string may consist of the following constraints:
• An “A” indicates that a character must appear in that position of the format string.
• A “0” indicates that a digit must appear in that position of the format string.
• A “*” indicates that any number of characters or digits may appear in that position.
• A “?” indicates that any character or digit may appear in that position.
• Other characters or symbols in the format string represent characters that must appear in that position.
As an example, the format String “AA-000” would correspond to the following patient ID’s: “BZ-
012”, “AB-987” but not “F-123” (only 1 character at the start), “ABC-123” (3 characters at the start) or “ABC123” (3 characters at the start and no dash). Similarly, the format string “VER-*-?” would correspond to patient ID’s “VER-LastName0123-1” or “VER-123ABC-A” but not “123ABC-
A” (missing the “VER-“ prefix) or “VER-ABC123-A1” (extra digit at the end of the string).
Implementing External Interfaces to EHR Systems
Document Security Officers can configure ScanPoint 3.0 for automated export of patient exam records to an electronic medical record (EMR) or electronic health record (EHR) system using either Health Level 7 (HL7) unsolicited observation reporting (ORU) or the Integrating the
Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS) services.
NOTE: Exams transferred to EMR/EHR systems are marked as obsolete within ScanPoint.
Using the Site Preferences pane on the My Account page, the user can configure obsolete documents to display in gray text on the Review History page.
Comprehensive User’s Manual page 82

Implementing HL7 Unsolicited Observation Reporting (ORU) and Web Service
Authentication
ScanPoint 3.0 provides a mechanism to send HL7 version 2.5.1 Unsolicited Observations with text measurement information to an EHR system.
However, HL7 protocols do not include any mechanism for authentication. Since ScanPoint 3.0 is external to a customer’s EHR system, authentication is absolutely necessary to protect patient health information.
To manage the authentication process, ScanPoint customers must implement a Web service that is published and maintained at the customer’s facility.
To request a document outlining the implementation of HL7 ORU and web service authentication for ScanPoint 3.0, please contact Verathon Medical Customer Care and request the document titled Implementing ScanPoint 3.0 External Interfaces at 1-800-331-2313.
Implementing IHE Cross Document Sharing (XDS) Document Source
The Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) is an initiative to use established standards to address specific clinical needs in support of optimal patient care.
The IHE technical framework defines a profile called Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS) as a mechanism to coordinate document retrieval and search between multiple information systems. ScanPoint 3.0 implements the Provide and Register Document Set-b transaction and sends a HITSP/C32 continuity of care document with an embedded PDF of the exam report.
The XDS profile is described in full in the IHE IT Infrastructure technical framework.
To request a document outlining the implementation of IHE XDS and Audit Trail and Node
Authentication (ATNA) for ScanPoint 3.0, please contact Verathon Medical Customer Care and request the document titled Implementing ScanPoint 3.0 External Interfaces at 1-800-331-
2313.

Configuring EMR settings
The EMR Settings page (Figure 75) provides the following functions:
• Select another team: This drop-down menu allows you to configure the settings for a particular team. The list contains only those teams to which the current user has a membership that includes the Document Security Officer role.
• Measurement Codes: All Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems use a coding system to represent measurement data within the EHR system. This table presents the measurements supported by ScanPoint and the code and coding system used for that measurement.
ScanPoint 3.0 supports two coding systems for measurements:
• Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC
® )
• Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine-Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT)
SNOMED CT is restricted to those countries who are members of the International Health
Terminology Standards Development Organization due to licensing restrictions from that organization.
NOTE: ScanPoint 3.0 does not provide any actual codes or code recommendations per the licensing requirements. Customers are encouraged to identify codes compatible with their
EHR system.
The measurement name, code, coding system and an Edit command are presented for each measurement. Clicking the Edit command changes the view of the table to provide the opportunity to edit the code and coding system to fit the customer’s EHR system.
• Measurement Name: Edits in this field are not saved by ScanPoint.
• Code: Enter the code for the measurement in this field.
• Coding System: Select LOINC or SNOMED CT.
• Update: Clicking this button will save the code and coding system setting.
NOTE: Once a code is set, it can be changed to another code or coding system but it cannot be removed.
• Cancel: Clicking this button will cancel changes to the measurement, except as noted in the Update entry.
• External HL7 System: This section of the page configures the ORU export function.
• Enable HL7 transfer: When checked, after test and with settings applied, all exams that are annotated in ScanPoint’s Web interface will be exported to the EHR system.
Exported exams will be marked as obsolete in ScanPoint and either displayed in gray text or hidden, depending on the Site Preferences selected by the user.
• Check PID-3 length: Checking this option will verify that the PID-3 length is 255 characters or less.

• External Service Settings: The HL7 protocols assume all communications occur within a trusted and secure environment. ScanPoint is a secure environment but it uses the public Internet for communications. To manage authentication between ScanPoint and an external EHR system, the external HL7 system will need to implement a custom Web service to process the authentication and, in turn, forward the ORU to the EHR system.
Comprehensive User’s Manual page 85
ScanPoint for Document Security Officers ScanPoint ® 3.0 Image Management Technology o Service URL: Enter the URL for the customer web service. Only SSL connections are permitted. o Service Login: Enter the user name that will be used to authenticate with the
Web service. o Service Password: Enter the password that will be used to authenticate with the
Web service. o Assigning Authority OID: Enter the object identifier for the assigning authority for patient information.
• HL7 Document Encryption o Encryption: Select either “No Encryption” or “RSA Encryption”. Selecting “No
Encryption” will result in transmission of a plain text document across the SSL channel. Selecting “RSA Encryption” will encrypt the entire document based on the public key stored in the site. o Certificate Public Key: Clicking this button enables the user to upload an X.509 certificate to the site that will be used to encrypt the HL7 ORU. Caution: A user should only upload their public key. Most personnel with IT security
knowledge will be aware of this fact.
• Test HL7 Settings: This link connects to a page where the HL7 export settings may be tested.
The page contains a text box to enter a patient ID and name and a button to send a test message.
ScanPoint will verify that the message was transmitted successfully. After verification of successful transmission, the user should verify that their EHR system received the message correctly. If the EHR system received the message successfully, the user may apply the settings for the team. Exams that are not successfully transmitted to the EHR system will be flagged in red and will likely require either additional demographic information, a corrected patient ID or a corrected patient name.
NOTE: Once applied, these settings will be used for every exam that is processed by the site and annotated with a Patient ID and name, with the following exceptions:
NOTE: Exam records taken using BladderScan ® BVI 6000 series and FloPoint ® Elite instruments that are annotated in QuickPrint will not be transferred automatically to an
EHR system even if conduits are established. They must be updated and saved
online in ScanPoint 3.0 to transfer automatically, or be transferred manually using the
Send to HL7 or Send to XDS buttons, as appropriate.
• XDS Settings: The XDS settings section enables configuration of ScanPoint to export the exam reports as a HITSP/C32 Continuity of Care Document with an embedded PDF of the ScanPoint patient exam report. The PDF format will be the report format chosen as the default setting for the team.
The continuity of care documents export to an Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE)
Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS) document registry. ScanPoint only acts as a document source.
For details on the IHE Technical Framework and the settings discussed below, please reference the IHE documentation at www.ihe.net.
Comprehensive User’s Manual page 86
ScanPoint ® 3.0 Image Management Technology ScanPoint for Document Security Officers
• Document Source Settings o Enable Document Source: Checking this checkbox enables configuration of
XDS settings and, ultimately, use of the XDS servers for document sharing. o External Repository URL: This URL represents the Web service endpoint that implements the XDS Document Repository functions for the customer site. The methods implemented by ScanPoint are Provide And Register Document Set-b.
Each document set will contain only one document representing a single exam from the site.
• Security Settings: The XDS service will only communicate over a TLS service. Each transmission to the customer service will be identified as being from a particular
ScanPoint team member. The facility name may be changed from the team name. o Certificate Thumbprint: Enter the certificate thumbprint for the certificate associated with the end point. ScanPoint will use this to verify the identity of the service. Only one team may use a particular certificate within the site. o Responsible Person: The name of a user with the Document Security Officer role who configures the Security Settings for the team. This setting is used for audit log records. o Facility Name: By default, the team name in ScanPoint is used for the facility name. The facility name identifies the source of patient identifiers:
The primary patient identifier is the Patient ID or Patient Name, which is entered by users when annotating exams. This information is said to be sourced from the customer site.
ScanPoint uses its own identification system and that information is appended to the patient identifier field as a secondary identifier.
• XDS Affinity Domain Settings: ScanPoint participates in a XDS Affinity Domain in that it acts as a Document Source within an affinity domain defined by the customer. Because it does not support the repository function, several teams within the site may effectively be a part of the same Affinity Domain provided each team connects to a server with a distinct certificate. o Class Code: This code specifies the particular kind of document that is included in the Provide And Register Document Set transaction. The value should draw from the customer's EMR coding scheme with appropriate codes, names and coding scheme entered.
Code: Enter the code for the Class Code that should be applied to Verathon ® exports.
Display Name: Enter the display name to be used.
Coding Scheme: Enter the coding scheme from which the code and name are taken.

ScanPoint ® 3.0 Image Management Technology ScanPoint for Patient Administrators
ScanPoint for Patient Administrators
Overview
Patient Administrators are specialist users who add or edit patient demographic information to existing patient records to correct EHR data entry errors. Patient administrators have access to limited patient information, such as patient ID and name, but do not have access to exam data.
The default home page for Patient Administrators is the My Account page.
Patient ID assignment in ScanPoint
In ScanPoint 2.x, all exams were assigned a patient ID and operator by the user. If the patient ID and name matched an existing record in the database, then the existing patient record is used. If not, then a new patient record would be created. If there was a clerical error in data entry, a new patient record was created and the exams would become separated from each other.
ScanPoint 3.0 incorporates safeguards against this issue. An auto-complete feature on the site can help a user to correctly enter patient ID and name to match existing patient records.
Also, in ScanPoint 3.0, it is possible for both Patient Administrators and Clinical users to correct mistyped patient identifiers and names, and save the correction. If multiple users attempt to make changes at the same time, the first user to save their result locks other users out of making changes.
Merging Patient Exam Data
On the My Account tab, a Patients Merge page is available to Patient Administrators and
Clinical users (Figure 77):
Figure 77: Patients Merge page
Comprehensive User’s Manual page 91
ScanPoint for Patient Administrators ScanPoint ® 3.0 Image Management Technology
With this interface, two or more patient records may be merged into a single record, reconnecting exams that had mistyped identifications.
To undo a merge, a Clinical user must open each exam that was incorrectly merged and re-enter the correct patient information in each exam and save the results.
Correcting Patient Demographic Information
Patient Administrators and Clinical users can correct errors in patient information using the
Patient Demographic Information page (Figure 78), which is accessed by clicking on a patient name found on the Patients page on the My Account tab. Technical users, Team
Administrators and Document Security Officers do not have access to this functionality.
Figure 78: Patient Demographic Information screen
All patient information in ScanPoint must be entered manually by the operator. ScanPoint does not support an interface to an admission (ADT) system. ScanPoint does not support the
Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise Patient Demographic Query profile.

ScanPoint ® 3.0 Image Management Technology Appendix – Using the BladderScan ® BVI 6300
Appendix – Using the BladderScan
®
BVI 6300
The BladderScan ® BVI 6300 (Figure 79) was prescribed to individuals without bladder sensation as a result of spinal cord injury or other neurological problems to regain a more natural, volumebased voiding pattern. Patients using the BVI 6300 perform scans on their own bladder (Figure
80). The BVI 6300 displays measurements as a percentage of the patient’s target bladder volume, which is pre-programmed by the healthcare provider via ScanPoint.
When the patient comes for a follow-up appointment, the healthcare provider can view a record of all the patient’s exams using ScanPoint, as all exam data is saved on the instrument. To facilitate the monitoring of bladder function, the BladderScan ® BVI 6300 user selects pre-void and postvoid settings prior to every exam. ScanPoint tabulates and displays the patient’s exam results, including pre- and post-void exams, on a printable scatter plot.

Installing the BVI 6300 using ScanPoint with ActiveX controls
The healthcare provider programs the BVI 6300 via ScanPoint using ActiveX controls. ActiveX controls - small program building blocks - are distributed applications that work over the Internet through Web browsers. Examples include customized applications for gathering data, viewing certain kinds of files, and displaying animation.
What is Installed?
The ScanPoint with ActiveX installer installs drivers for the ScanPoint docking station and preinstalls the ActiveX controls for the BVI 6300. Users with the ActiveX controls should be provided with sufficient privileges to install updates to the ActiveX controls. Periodic updates are required to renew the security certificate of the ActiveX controls.

These tests must be performed in the above sequence within the same 20 minute period for optimum clinical utility. When this is done, ScanPoint provides a BAK Composite report that integrates the results from all three exams into one document.

Continuity of Care Record. A standard for a comprehensive data summary that aggregates data from multiple sources, health care records, medical legal documents, and health care encounters to form a comprehensive overall clinical picture of a patient’s current and relevant historical health care status. The healthcare provider can share the record in paper or electronic form either with the patient or with other healthcare providers.
ScanPoint reports can be exported in CCR format for EHR exchange.
Clinical Document Architecture. An HL7 - ANSI document markup standard that specifies the structure and semantics of clinical documents for the purpose of data exchange between different electronic health record (EHR) systems. ScanPoint patient exam reports can be exported in CDA format for EHR exchange.
Data Collection Module. The scanning components - hardware and software - of the BladderScan bladder volume instrument.
Device History Record. A record generated for each instrument beginning with the steps in the manufacturing process and continuing through the life of the instrument. Verathon ® uses
DHRs to track instrument ownership, usage, and maintenance history.

An organization that integrates the development efforts of EHR stakeholders.
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
(HIPAA) was enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1996.
Title I of HIPAA protects health insurance coverage for workers and their families when they change or lose their jobs. Title II of
HIPAA requires the establishment of national standards for electronic health care transactions and national identifiers for providers, health insurance plans, and employers.
Title II also addresses the security and privacy of health data. The standards are meant to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the nation’s health care system by encouraging the widespread use of electronic data interchange in the U.S. health care system
Health Level 7. HL7 is an international community of healthcare subject matter experts and information scientists collaborating to create standards for the exchange, management and integration of electronic healthcare information.

Meaning
Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) is a global initiative that creates the framework for passing electronic health records seamlessly – from application to application, system to system, and setting to setting – across multiple healthcare enterprises.
This group promotes real interconnection of health record systems through annual “Connectathon” competitions in North America,
Europe, and Asia. The Connectathon is an open test of multiple vendors’ products that are run through the transactions that are generally required in a real healthcare practice.
Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS) is a mechanism defined by IHE for coordinating document retrieval and search between multiple information systems. ScanPoint implements the
Provide And Register Document Set-b transaction and send a
HITSP/C32 continuity of care document with an embedded PDF of the patient exam report to a designated EHR system.
The XDS profile is described in full in the IHE IT Infrastructure technical framework at www.ihe.net.
