HEARING DAMAGE AND PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO

EXCESSIVE SPLs

Harbinger VâRi Series powered loudspeakers are capable of producing extremely loud volume levels that can cause permanent hearing damage to performers, production crews or the audience. Hearing protection is recommended during long-term exposure to high SPLs (sound pressure levels).

Remember, if it hurts, it is definitely too loud! Long term exposure to high SPLs first causes temporary threshold shifts; limiting your ability to hear the actual loudness and exercise good judgment.

Repeated long term exposure to high SPLs will cause permanent hearing loss.

Please note the recommended exposure limits in the accompanying table.

More information about these limits is available on the US government

Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) website at: www.osha.gov.

QUICK START GUIDE

SETTING UP / HELPFUL TIPS

• Position the VâRi speaker in the desired location, and ensure the speaker is stable.

• Make sure the Power Switch is OFF.

• Make certain Input Gain 1 & 2, and Master Volume are down.

MAKING THE CONNECTIONS

• Plug connections to Input 1. Check that the Mic/Line switch matches the source (Mic for microphones and instruments, Line for mixers, keyboards, or instruments with active pickups).

• Plug connections to Input 2. Note that Input 2 is a Line Input, and will not work well with a microphone.

• Plug connection to Aux In on mobile audio device or computer.

POWERING UP

• Turn on the power to any devices plugged into Input 1, Input 2, or

Aux Input.

• Power ON the speaker.

• Slowly turn the Master Volume to 12 o’clock.

• Slowly turn up the volume of the mobile audio device to the desired level.

• Turn Input 1 to the desired level.

• Turn Input 2 to the desired level.

CLIP LIGHT - LOCATED ON FRONT BEHIND GRILLE

• The SIG/CLIP LED will light up BLUE when the speaker is receiving a signal. If it is distorting, the LED will turn RED and the MASTER

VOLUME should be turned down.

FLOOR MONITOR APPLICATIONS

• Turn the Low EQ down slightly to reduce unwanted rumble and low-frequency build-up. This will reduce feedback and make vocals clearer.

LINKING MULTIPLE SPEAKERS

• If linking multiple speakers, plug the Line OUT connection of

Speaker 1 to the Line In connection of Speaker 2, and continue the daisy chain to the last speaker. (This is common where multiple monitor mixers share the same feed from the mixing board.)

• Turn the Power On in the order of the audio signal to prevent unwanted “pops”. First On / Last Off.

VâRi Series speakers can be used as Main Speakers or Monitor Speakers.

1 FRONT LED

The front-mounted LED has two functions. This switch toggles between those functions.

– ON position = Front-mounted LED indicates when power is on.

– S/L position = Front-mounted LED indicates when the limiter is engaged. (If LED turns red in this position, the speaker is distorting.)

2 MIC/LINE INPUT

The Mic/Line input features a balanced XLR jack, and balanced/ unbalanced TRS (tip/ring/sleeve) ¼” jack. Set the Mic/Line button to match the input device to prevent distortion. Unbalanced

¼” instrument jacks may be used here (start with the button in Line setting. If the gain is too low, turn the volume down, select Mic, and slowly raise the volume). For best results, use only the XLR or ¼” jack, not both.

3 LINE INPUT

The Line input features a balanced XLR jack, and an unbalanced RCA jack. For best results, use only the XLR or RCA jack, not both.

4 2 BAND EQ

The LOW EQ will provide +/- 12dB of boost or cut below 100Hz.

Turn the LOW EQ up to add bass or warmth to the speaker. Turn the LOW EQ down to remove rumble and noise when the program material does not contain low frequencies, or when using the speaker as a floor monitor.

The HIGH EQ will provide +/- 12dB of boost or cut above 10kHz.

Turn the HIGH EQ up to add clarity and definition to vocals, acoustic instruments, or backing tracks. Turn the HIGH EQ down to reduce hiss or feedback.

6

5 SIG/CLIP LED

The SIG/CLIP LED will light up BLUE when the speaker is receiving a signal. If it is distorting, the LED will turn RED and the MASTER

VOLUME should be turned down.

6 POWER LED

The Power LED indicates that the VâRi speaker’s AC power cord is connected to an electrical outlet, and the Power Switch is turned on.

7 MASTER VOLUME

The Master Volume controls the overall volume of all 3 inputs.

8 LINE OUTPUT

The Line Output is used to link multiple speakers together using the same audio signal. Connect the Line Output of the first speaker to the

Line Input of the next speaker in the signal path.

9 AUX INPUT

1 /

8

” Stereo input for connecting mobile audio devices to VâRi 2000

Series speaker. Note the Aux Input feeds directly to the Master

Volume control, and does not have an input gain adjustment. For best results, adjust the volume on the device to the desired level, then set the Mic/Instrument, Line Inputs, and Master Volume level.

10 POWER SWITCH

Turn the VâRi speaker ON or OFF.

11 IEC POWER INPUT AND FUSE CARRIER

The IEC AC cable plug inserts into this jack. This is also where the main fuse housing is located.
