Remove all contents from the carton.

Insert the wheel assembly into the wheel bracket. The "J" shape of the wheel assembly should point away from the unit.

Align the hole in the wheel bracket with the desired hole in the wheel assembly. Insert the clevis pin through the aligned holes. Insert the cotter pin into the clevis pin.

Loosen the two handlebar knobs. Swing the handlebars up into the operating position.

NOTE: Do not pinch the throttle cable or switch wires.

Tighten the two handlebar knobs to secure the handlebars. Readjust the throttle cable and switch wires.

NOTE: Do not over tighten the handlebar knobs.

Set the unit on a flat, level surface. Unscrew the oil fill plug. Pour the entire bottle of oil into the oil fill hole. Reinstall the oil fill plug.

NOTE: DO NOT overfill. Never add oil directly into the fuel tank. DO NOT mix oil with gasoline.

Place the unit on a level surface.

Remove the fuel cap. Fill the fuel tank. Replace the fuel cap. Move the unit at least 30 ft. (9.1 m) from the fuel container and the fueling site before starting the engine.

NOTE: Use fresh unleaded gasoline (less than 30 days old).

60 seconds.

Then squeeze the throttle control for an additional 30 to

60 seconds to let the engine warm up further. The unit may be used during this period.

NOTE: For users on U.S. Forest Land and in the states of California, Maine, Oregon and Washington.

All U.S. Forest Land and the state of California (Public Resources Codes 4442 and 4443), Oregon and

Washington require, by law that certain internal combustion engines operated on forest brush and/or grasscovered areas be equipped with a spark arrestor, maintained in effective working order, or the engine be constructed, equipped and maintained for the prevention of fire. Check with your state or local authorities for regulations pertaining to these requirements. Failure to follow these requirements could subject you to liability or a fine. This unit is factory equipped with a spark arrestor.

SAFETY

• Never start or run the unit inside a closed room or building. Breathing exhaust fumes can kill.

Operate this unit only in a well ventilated outdoor area.

WHILE OPERATING

• Wear safety glasses or goggles that meet current ANSI Z87.1 standards and are marked as such.

Wear ear/hearing protection when operating this unit. Wear a face or dust mask if the operation is dusty.

• Wear heavy long pants, boots, gloves and a long sleeve shirt. Do not wear loose clothing, jewelry, short pants, sandals or go barefoot. Secure hair above shoulder level.

• This unit has a clutch. The tines remain stationary when the engine is idling. If they do not, take the unit to a Troy-Bilt or other qualified service dealer for an adjustment.

• Be sure the tines are not in contact with anything before starting the unit.

• Use the unit only in daylight or good artificial light.

• Avoid accidental starting. Be in the starting position whenever pulling the starter rope. The operator and unit must be in a stable position while starting. Refer to Starting and Stopping .

• Use the right tool. Only use this tool for its intended purpose.

• Use extreme caution when reversing or pulling the unit towards you.

• Do not overreach. Always keep proper footing and balance. Take extra care when working on steep slopes or inclines.

• Always hold the unit with both hands when operating. Keep a firm grip on both handles or grips.

• Keep hands, face, and feet away from all moving parts. Do not touch or try to stop the tines when they are rotating.

• Do not touch the engine or muffler. These parts get extremely hot from operation, even after the unit is turned off.

• Do not operate the engine faster than the speed needed to cultivate. Do not run the engine at high speed when you are not cultivating.

• Always stop the engine when cultivating is delayed or when walking from one cultivating location to another.

• If you strike or become entangled with a foreign object, stop the engine immediately and check for damage. Do not operate before repairing damage. Do not operate the unit with loose or damaged parts.

• Turn the engine to off and disconnect the spark plug for maintenance or repair.

• Use only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) replacement parts and accessories for this unit, as listed in the Parts List section of this manual. Use of any other parts or accessories could lead to serious injury to the user, or damage to the unit, and void the warranty.

• Keep the unit clean of vegetation and other materials that may become lodged between the tines and guard.

• To reduce fire hazard, replace a faulty muffler and spark arrestor. Keep the engine and muffler free from grass, leaves, excessive grease or carbon build up.

OTHER SAFETY WARNINGS

• Never store the unit with fuel in the tank, inside a building where fumes may reach an open flame

(pilot lights, etc.) or sparks (switches, electrical motors, etc.).

• Allow the engine to cool before storing or transporting. Be sure to secure the unit while transporting.

• Store the unit in a dry place, secured or at a height to prevent unauthorized use or damage. Keep out of the reach of children.

• Never douse or squirt the unit with water or any other liquid. Keep handles dry, clean and free from debris. Clean after each use, see Cleaning and Storage instructions.

• Clean tines with a household cleaner to remove any gum buildup. Oil the tines with machine oil to prevent rust.

• Keep these instructions. Refer to them often and use them to instruct other users. If you loan this unit to others, also loan them these instructions.

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE OPERATING

WARNING: When using the unit, all safety rules must be followed. Please read these instructions before operating the unit in order to ensure the safety of the operator and any bystanders. Please keep these instructions for later use.

• Read the instructions carefully. Be familiar with the controls and proper use of the unit.

• Do not operate this unit when tired, ill or under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication.

• Children and teens under the age of 15 must not use the unit, except for teens guided by an adult.

• All guards and safety attachments must be installed properly before operating the unit.

• Inspect the unit before use. Replace damaged parts. Check for fuel leaks. Make sure all fasteners are in place and secure. Replace parts that are cracked, chipped, or damaged in any way. Do not operate the unit with loose or damaged parts.

• Carefully inspect the area before starting the unit. Remove all debris and hard or sharp objects such as glass, wire, etc.

• Be aware of the risk of injury to the head, hands and feet.

• Clear the area of children, bystanders and pets; keep them outside a 50-foot (15 m) radius, at a minimum. Even then, they are still at risk from thrown objects. Encourage bystanders to wear eye protection. If you are approached, stop the unit immediately.

• Squeeze the throttle control and check that it returns automatically to the idle position. Make all adjustments or repairs before using the unit.

WARNING: Gasoline is highly flammable, and its vapors can explode if ignited. Take the following precautions:

• Store fuel only in containers specifically designed and approved for the storage of such materials.

• Always stop the engine and allow it to cool before filling the tank. Never remove the fuel tank cap or add fuel when the engine is hot. Always loosen the fuel tank cap slowly to relieve any pressure in the tank before fueling.

• Always add fuel in a clean, well-ventilated outdoor area where there are no sparks or flames. DO

NOT smoke.

• Never operate the unit without the fuel cap securely in place.

• Avoid creating a source of ignition for spilled fuel. Wipe up any spilled fuel from the unit immediately, before starting the unit. Move the unit at least 30 ft. (9.1 m) from the fueling source and site before starting the engine. DO NOT smoke.

OIL AND FUEL

USING THE RIGHT OIL

Use a high-quality SAE 30 weight oil of API (American Petroleum Institute) service class SJ. DO NOT use dirty oil. Failure to use clean oil of the correct type can cause premature engine wear and failure.

ADDING OIL: INITIAL USE

WARNING: OVERFILLING THE CRANKCASE MAY CAUSE SERIOUS PERSONAL

INJURY. Check the oil level before each use. The importance of maintaining the proper oil level cannot be overemphasized. Change the oil according to the Maintenance Schedule .

NOTE: This unit was shipped without oil in the crankcase. Oil must be added before starting the unit.

NOTE: This unit comes with a 3.04 fluid oz. (90 ml) bottle of oil.

1. Unscrew the top of the oil bottle. Remove the paper seal.

Reinstall the top of the oil bottle.

2. Remove the cap from the oil bottle. Cut the tip off the funnel spout (Fig. 4).

Set the unit on a flat, level surface.

4. Unscrew the oil fill plug (Fig. 5).

5. Pour the entire bottle into the oil fill hole (Fig. 5). DO NOT overfill. Refer to Checking the Oil Level .

NOTE: Never add oil directly to the fuel tank. This unit has a fourcycle engine. DO NOT mix oil with gasoline.

6. Wipe up any oil that may have spilled.

7. Reinstall the oil fill plug.

NOTE: Make sure the O-ring is in place on the oil fill plug (Fig. 5).

NOTE: Save the empty oil bottle. Use the bottle to measure the correct amount of oil during future oil changes.

USING THE RIGHT FUEL

The use of old fuel is the most common cause of performance problems. Use only fresh, clean unleaded gasoline.

Definition of Blended Fuels

Today's fuels are often a blend of gasoline and oxygenates such as ethanol, methanol or MTBE

(ether). Alcohol-blended fuel absorbs water. As little as 1% water in the fuel can make fuel and oil separate, forming acids when stored. ALWAYS use fresh fuel (less than 30 days old).

NOTE: Dispose of old fuel according to federal, state and local regulations.

Using Blended Fuels

If using a blended fuel:

• Always use fresh unleaded gasoline

• Use the fuel additive STA-BIL® or an equivalent

• Drain the tank and run the engine dry before storing the unit

WARNING: DO NOT USE E85 FUEL IN THIS UNIT.

It has been proven that fuel containing greater than 10% ethanol will likely damage this engine and void the warranty.

Using Fuel Additives

Use a fuel additive, such as STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer or an equivalent, to inhibit corrosion and minimize gum deposits. Add 0.8 oz. (23 ml) of fuel additive per gallon of fuel, according to the instructions on the container. NEVER add fuel additives directly to the unit's fuel tank.

ASSEMBLY

INSTALLING AND ADJUSTING THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY

WARNING:

To prevent serious personal injury, the wheel assembly must be installed when operating the unit.

WARNING: To avoid injury from the tines, wear heavy gloves and a long sleeve shirt when installing the wheel assembly.

Installing the Wheel Assembly

1. Insert the wheel assembly into the wheel bracket. The "J" shape of the wheel assembly should point away from the unit

(Fig. 1).

2. Align the hole in the wheel bracket with the desired hole in the wheel assembly (Fig. 1).

3. Insert the clevis pin through the aligned holes (Fig. 1).

4. Insert the cotter pin into the clevis pin (Fig. 1).

NOTE: It may be necessary to adjust the position of the wheel assembly before using the unit.

Adjusting the Wheel Assembly

1. Remove the cotter pin from the clevis pin (Fig. 1).

2. Remove the clevis pin from the wheel bracket and wheel assembly (Fig. 1).

3. Align the hole in the wheel bracket with the desired hole in the wheel assembly (Fig. 1).

NOTE: Moving the wheel assembly down will raise the wheel height. Moving the wheel assembly up will lower the wheel height.

4. Insert the clevis pin through the aligned holes (Fig. 1).

5. Insert the cotter pin into the clevis pin (Fig. 1).

FUELING THE UNIT

WARNING: Gasoline is extremely flammable. Ignited vapors may explode. Always stop the engine and allow it to cool before filling the fuel tank. Do not smoke while filling the tank. Keep sparks and open flames at a distance from the area.

WARNING: Remove the fuel cap slowly to avoid injury from fuel spray. Never operate the unit without the fuel cap securely in place.

WARNING:

Add fuel in a clean, well ventilated outdoor area. Wipe up any spilled fuel immediately. Avoid creating a source of ignition for spilled fuel. Do not start the engine until fuel vapors dissipate.

1. Position the unit with the fuel cap facing up.

2. Remove the fuel cap.

3. Place the fuel container spout into the fill hole on the fuel tank and fill the tank.

NOTE: Do not overfill the tank.

4. Wipe up any fuel that may have spilled.

5. Reinstall the fuel cap.

6. Move the unit at least 30 ft. (9.1 m) from the fuel container and the fueling site before starting the engine.

POSITIONING THE HANDLEBARS

1. Loosen the two knobs on the inside of the handlebars (Fig. 2).

2. With the unit upright, swing the handlebars up into the operating position (Fig. 3).

NOTE: Take care not to pinch the throttle cable or switch wires when positioning the handlebar.

3. Tighten the knobs to secure the handlebars in place.

NOTE: Do not over-tighten the knobs.

STARTING AND STOPPING

WARNING:

Tines WILL ROTATE when STARTING . Always stand in starting position with foot on wheel when starting the unit.

WARNING: Operate this unit only in a well-ventilated outdoor area. Carbon monoxide exhaust fumes can be lethal in a confined area.

WARNING: Avoid accidentally starting the unit. To avoid serious injury, the operator and the unit must be in a stable position when pulling the starter rope (Fig. 8).

STARTING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Check the oil level. Refer to Checking the Oil Level .

2. Fill the fuel tank. Refer to Fueling the Unit .

NOTE: There is no need to turn the unit on. The On/Off switch is in the ON ( I ) position at all times (Fig. 6).

IF COLD...

For cold weather conditions (below 40°F), flip the Red

Cold Weather Start Lever (Fig. 7) back to the closed position and continue to step 3. DO NOT flip this lever back if the temperature is above 40°F.

NOTE: DO NOT squeeze the throttle control until step 6.

3. Slowly press and release the primer bulb 10 times (Fig. 7). If fuel cannot be seen in the primer bulb, press and release the primer bulb until fuel is visible.

NOTE: Make sure to always have the unit tilted back slightly to bring the tines off the ground when starting.

4. Hold the handlebar with one hand and grab the starter rope with the other hand, do not squeeze the throttle control (Fig. 8).

Using one foot to hold down the cultivator. Pull the starter rope in a controlled motion until the unit starts.

IF COLD...

For cold weather conditions (below 40°F), flip the Cold

Weather Start Lever forward to the open position after the unit has started and before squeezing the throttle control.

5. Once the unit starts, wait 60 seconds.

6. Squeezing the throttle control for an additional 30 to 60 seconds to let the engine warm up. The unit may be used during this time.

IF...

The engine does not start, go back to step 3.

IF...

The engine stops while squeezing the throttle, go back to step 4.

IF...

The engine is hot, go back to step 3.

OPERATION

OPERATING TIPS

WARNING: Dress properly to reduce the risk of injury when operating this unit. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Wear eye and ear/hearing protection. Wear heavy long pants, boots and gloves. Do not wear short pants, sandals or operate barefoot.

1. Move the cultivator to the work area prior to starting the engine. Transport the cultivator by pushing or pulling it along on its wheels.

WARNING: To prevent serious personal injury, never pick-up or carry the unit while the engine is running.

2. Start the unit by following the Starting Instructions .

3. With the engine running and the tines off the ground, depress the throttle control to increase the engine speed.

4. While holding the upper handle with both hands, slowly lower the cultivator until the tines make contact with the ground (Fig. 9).

5. As cultivating action begins, tilt the cultivator up slightly using the handle so that the tines can penetrate the ground.

6. Once the ground has been broken, continue at a moderate pace.

7. If the tines are digging too deep or not deep enough, adjust the wheel bracket as described in

Adjusting Tine Depth .

ADJUSTING THE TINE DEPTH

The tines should penetrate most garden soils approximately 5 to 6 inches. If necessary, adjust the tines as follows:

1. Stop the engine and allow it to cool. Grasp the spark plug wire firmly and pull the cap from the spark plug.

2. Raise the wheel height for shallower tine penetration or lower the wheel height for deeper tine penetration. Refer to Adjusting the Wheel Assembly in the

Assembly Instructions section.

3. Reconnect the spark plug wire and continue use.

STOPPING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Release the throttle control and allow the engine to idle.

2. Press and hold the On/Off switch in the OFF (O) position until the engine comes to a complete stop (Fig. 6).

STARTING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Check the oil level. Refer to Checking the Oil Level .

2. Fill the fuel tank. Refer to Fueling the Unit .

NOTE: There is no need to turn the unit on. The On/Off switch is in the ON ( I ) position at all times

(Fig. 6).

IF COLD...

For cold weather conditions (below 40°F), flip the Red Cold Weather Start Lever (Fig. 7) down to the start/closed position and continue to step 3. DO NOT flip this lever down if the temperature is above 40°F.

3. Slowly press and release the primer bulb 10 times (Fig. 7). If fuel cannot be seen in the primer bulb, press and release the primer bulb until fuel is visible.

NOTE: Make sure to always have the unit tilted back slightly to bring the tines off the ground when starting.

4. Hold the handlebar with one hand. Place the Plug-In Power Start or Power Bit Start into the back of the unit. Refer to the Operation section of the Plug-In Power Start or Power Bit Start operator’s manual.

5.

Do Not squeeze the throttle control , press and hold the Plug-In Plug-In Power Start or drill’s ON

(I) button for 2 second intervals until unit starts.

6. Once the unit starts, remove the Plug-In Power Start or drill from the rear of the unit and wait 60 seconds.

IF COLD...

For cold weather conditions (below 40°F), flip the Red Cold Weather Start Lever forward to the open position after the unit has started and before squeezing the throttle control.

7. Squeezing the throttle control for an additional 30 to 60 seconds to let the engine warm up. The unit may be used during this time.

IF...

The engine does not start, go back to step 3.

IF...

The engine stops while squeezing the throttle, go back to step 4.

IF...

The engine is hot, go back to step 3.

TRANSPORTING THE UNIT

WARNING: To prevent serious personal injury, always stop the engine when operation is delayed or when transporting the unit from one location to another.

1. Stop the engine.

2. Tilt the unit back until the tines clear the ground.

3. Push or pull the unit to the next location to be cultivated.

STOPPING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Release the throttle control and allow the engine to idle.

2. Press and hold the On/Off switch in the OFF (O) position until the engine comes to a complete stop (Fig. 6).

MAINTENANCE

WARNING:

To prevent serious injury, never perform maintenance or repairs while the unit is running. Always allow the unit to cool before servicing or repairing the unit.

Disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent the unit from starting accidentally.

MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE

Perform these required maintenance procedures at the frequency stated in the table. These procedures should also be a part of any seasonal tune-up.

NOTE: Some maintenance procedures may require special tools or skills. If you are unsure about these procedures, take your unit to any non-road engine repair establishment, individual or authorized service dealer.

NOTE: Maintenance, replacement, or repair of the emission control devices and system may be performed by any non-road engine repair establishment, individual or authorized service dealer.

NOTE: Please read the California/EPA statement that came with the unit for a complete listing of terms and coverage for the emissions control devices, such as the spark arrestor, muffler, carburetor, etc.

MAINTENANCE

MAINTAINING THE AIR FILTER

WARNING:

To avoid serious personal injury, always stop the engine and allow it to cool before cleaning or maintaining the unit.

Failure to maintain the air filter can result in poor performance or can cause permanent damage to the engine. Engine failure due to improper air filter maintenance is not covered by the product warranty.

Cleaning the Air Filter

1. Open the air filter cover by unscrewing the cover screw (Fig. 16).

2. Remove the air filter from inside the air filter housing (Fig. 17).

3. Wash the air filter in detergent and water. Rinse the air filter thoroughly and allow it to dry.

4. Lightly coat the air filter with clean SAE 30 oil.

5. Squeeze the air filter to spread and remove excess oil.

6. Reinstall the air filter inside the air filter housing (Fig. 17).

NOTE: Operating the unit without the air filter and air filter cover will VOID the warranty.

7. Insert the hooks on the air filter housing into the slots on the air filter cover (Fig. 17).

8. Swing the air filter cover to the left and align the cover screw with the cover screw hole (Fig. 17). Tighten the cover screw to secure the air filter cover.

NOTE: Do not over tighten as this may strip the screw.

TINE REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT

WARNING: To prevent serious personal injury, always wear heavy gloves when handling the tines.

All tines should be replaced at the same time as they will wear evenly through normal use. Work on one side at a time.

1. Make sure the unit is off.

NOTE: It may be necessary to lay the cultivator back in a horizontal position on a flat level surface with the upper handle touching the ground. It may also be necessary to wash any dirt off the tines and shaft for ease of removal.

2. Remove the retainer from the clevis pin that is between the 2 outer tines (Fig. 11).

3. Remove the clevis pin and slide the tines off of the shaft (Fig. 11).

4. Clean and oil the shaft.

5. Slide on the new tines with the hubs facing each other (Fig. 10).

NOTE: Make sure the single tine goes on the tine shaft first with the double tines on the outside and holes on the outer tines are aligned with the outer hole on the shaft (Fig. 10).

6. Secure the new tines to the shaft by sliding the clevis pin into the holes between the 2 outer tines (Fig. 11).

7. Insert the retainer into the clevis pin to secure the tines.

8. Repeat step 2 through 7 for the opposite side.

CHECKING THE OIL LEVEL

WARNING: OVERFILLING THE CRANKCASE MAY CAUSE SERIOUS PERSONAL

INJURY. Check the oil level before each use. The importance of maintaining the proper oil level cannot be overemphasized.

1. Stop the engine and allow it to cool.

2.

Set the unit on a flat, level surface . Position the unit so that the engine is horizontal (Fig. 12).

NOTE: Failure to keep the engine level may cause the oil to overfill.

3. Clean the area around the oil fill plug (Fig. 5) to prevent debris from entering the oil fill hole.

4. Unscrew the oil fill plug.

5. Look into the oil fill hole; use a flashlight if necessary. The oil level should just touch the bottom thread of the oil fill hole

(Fig. 13). If the oil level is too low, add oil to the oil fill hole until the oil level touches the bottom thread of the oil fill hole.

NOTE: DO NOT overfill the crankcase.

CHANGING THE OIL

Change the oil while the engine is still warm. The oil will flow freely and carry away more impurities.

1. Clean the area around the oil fill plug (Fig. 5) to prevent debris from entering the oil fill hole.

2. Unscrew the oil fill plug.

3. Tip the unit vertically to pour the oil out of the oil fill hole and into a container (Fig. 14). Allow ample time for complete drainage.

NOTE: Dispose of the old oil according to federal, state and local regulations.


5. Pour 3.04 fl.oz. (90 ml) of SAE 30 SJ oil into the oil fill hole.

NOTE: DO NOT overfill. Refer to Checking the Oil Level .

NOTE: Use the empty oil bottle saved from the initial use to measure the correct amount of oil. Fill the bottle to the top of the label to approximate 3.04 fl.oz. (90 ml) of oil (Fig. 15).

ADJUSTING THE IDLE SPEED

WARNING: The tines may spin during idle speed adjustments. Wear protective clothing and observe all safety instructions to prevent serious personal injury.

NOTE: Careless adjustments can seriously damage the unit. A qualified service dealer should make carburetor adjustments.

If, after checking the fuel and cleaning the air filter, the engine still will not idle, adjust the idle speed screw as follows:

1. Start the engine. Refer to Starting and Stopping .

2. Release the throttle control and let the engine idle. If the engine stops, use a small Phillips screwdriver to turn the idle speed screw clockwise, 1/8 of a turn at a time (as needed) until the engine idles smoothly (Fig. 18).

3. If the engine is idling too quickly, turn the idle speed screw counterclockwise, 1/8 of a turn at a time (as needed) to reduce the idle speed (Fig. 18).

Checking the fuel, cleaning the air filter, and adjusting the idle speed should solve most engine problems. If not, and any of the following conditions are true, take the unit to a qualified service dealer:

• the engine will not idle

• the engine hesitates or stalls on acceleration

• there is a loss of engine power

CHECKING THE ROCKER ARM CLEARANCE

This adjustment requires disassembly of the engine. If you feel unsure or unqualified to perform this, take the unit to a qualified service dealer.

The engine must be cold when checking or adjusting the rocker arm clearance. This task should be performed inside, in a clean, dust-free area.

1. Remove the 6 screws from the engine cover with a flat-head screwdriver or T-25 Torx screwdriver (Fig. 19). Remove the engine cover.

2. Disconnect the spark plug wire.

3. Clean the area around the spark plug.

4. Remove the spark plug from the cylinder with a 5/8 in. socket, turning counterclockwise.

5. Clean the rocker arm cover.

6. Remove the screw from the rocker arm cover with a flat-head screwdriver or T-25 Torx screwdriver (Fig. 20). Remove the rocker arm cover and gasket (Fig. 21).

7. Look into the spark plug hole (Fig. 20) and pull the starter rope slowly to move the piston. Make sure:

• The piston is at the top of its travel (top dead center)

• Both rocker arms move freely and both valves are closed

If these statements are not true, repeat this step.

8. Use a feeler gauge to measure the clearance between one of the valve stems and its corresponding rocker arm (Fig. 22).

Repeat this process for the other valve stem and rocker arm.

The recommended clearance is 0.003 – 0.006 in. (0.076 – 0.152

mm) . Use a standard automotive 0.005 in. (0.127 mm) feeler gauge. The feeler gauge should slide between the rocker arm and valve stem with a slight amount of resistance, without binding (Fig. 22).

9. If the clearance is not within specification: a. Turn the adjusting nut with a 5/16 inch (8 mm) wrench or nut driver (Fig. 22).

10. Install a new gasket and reinstall the rocker arm cover. Torque the screw to: 20–30 in•lb (2.2–3.4 N•m) .

11. Inspect and reinstall the spark plug. Refer to Maintaining the Spark Plug .

12. Reconnect the spark plug wire.

13. Reinstall the engine cover. Check the alignment of the engine cover before tightening the screws.

Tighten the screws.

MAINTENANCE

MAINTAINING THE SPARK PLUG

1. Stop the engine and allow it to cool.

2. Remove the 6 screws from the engine cover with a flat-head screwdriver or T-25 Torx screwdriver

(Fig. 19). Remove the engine cover.

3. Grasp the spark plug boot firmly and pull it from the spark plug.

4. Clean around the spark plug. Remove the spark plug from the cylinder head with a 5/8-inch socket, turning counterclockwise.

WARNING: Do not sand blast, scrape or clean spark plug electrodes. Grit in the engine could damage the cylinder.

5. Inspect the spark plug. If the spark plug is cracked, fouled or dirty, replace it with a replacement part #753-05784 , a Champion RDZ4H or an equivalent spark plug.

6. Use a feeler gauge to set the air gap at 0.025 in. (0.635 mm)

(Fig. 23).

7. Install the spark plug in the cylinder head. Tighten the spark plug with a 5/8-inch socket, turning it clockwise until snug.

NOTE: If using a torque wrench, torque to:

110-120 in.•lb. (12.3-13.5 N•m). Do not over tighten.

8. Reattach the spark plug boot.

9. Reinstall the engine cover. Check the alignment of the engine cover before tightening the screws. Tighten the screws.

TROUBLESHOOTING

CLEANING AND STORAGE

CLEANING

WARNING: To avoid serious personal injury, always stop the engine and allow it to cool before cleaning or maintaining the unit.

Use a small brush to clean the outside of the unit. Do not use strong detergents. Household cleaners that contain aromatic oils such as pine and lemon, and solvents such as kerosene, can damage plastic. Wipe off any moisture with a soft cloth.

STORAGE

• Never store a fueled unit where fumes may reach an open flame or spark.

• Allow the engine to cool before storing.

• Lock up the unit to prevent unauthorized use or damage.

• Store the unit in a dry, well-ventilated area.

• Store the unit out of the reach of children.

Long-term Storage

1. Remove the fuel cap, tip the unit and drain the fuel into an approved container.

2. Start the engine and allow it to run until it stalls. This ensures that all fuel has been drained from the carburetor.

3. Allow the engine to cool. Remove the spark plug and put 5 drops of any high quality motor oil into the cylinder. Pull the starter rope slowly to distribute the oil. Reinstall the spark plug.

4. Thoroughly clean the unit and inspect it for any loose or damaged parts. Repair or replace damaged parts and tighten loose screws, nuts or bolts.

Preparing the Unit for Use after Long-term Storage

1. Remove the spark plug and drain all of the oil from the cylinder.

2. Change the oil. Refer to Changing the Oil .

NOTE: Do not use fuel that has been stored for more than 30 days. Dispose of old fuel and oil according to federal, state and local regulations.

SEGURIDAD

ADVERTENCIAS DE SEGURIDAD PARA UNIDADES DE GASOLINA

ADVERTENCIA: La gasolina es muy inflamable y sus gases pueden explotar si se encienden. Tome las siguientes precauciones:

• Almacene el combustible solo en los recipientes diseñados y aprobados específicamente para estos materiales.

• Pare siempre el motor y deje que se enfríe antes de llenar el tanque. Nunca quite la tapa del tanque de combustible ni eche combustible cuando el motor esté caliente. Antes de llenar el tanque, siempre afloje la tapa lentamente para disipar la presión del mismo.

• Siempre agregue el combustible en un área exterior bien ventilada y limpia, donde no haya chispas ni llamas. NO fume.

• No opere nunca la unidad si la tapa del combustible no está bien asegurada en su lugar.

• Evite el peligro de incendio debido a combustible derramado. Limpie de inmediato todo combustible derramado de la unidad antes de encenderla. Antes de arrancar el motor, aleje la unidad a una distancia de 30 pies (9.1 m) como mínimo del lugar de abasto de combustible. NO fume.

• No arranque ni use nunca la unidad dentro de una habitación o edificio cerrados. Inhalar los gases de escape puede ser fatal. Opere esta unidad solamente en un área exterior bien ventilada.

AL OPERAR LA UNIDAD

• Use gafas o lentes de seguridad que cumplan con las normas actuales ANSI Z87.1 y estén marcados como tales. Use siempre protección para los oídos al operar esta unidad. Si la operación levanta polvo, lleve puesta una máscara facial o contra el polvo.

• Use pantalones largos y gruesos, botas, guantes y camisa de mangas largas. No use ropa holgada, alhajas, pantalones cortos, sandalias ni ande descalzo. Asegure su cabello por encima del nivel de los hombros.

• Esta unidad tiene un embrague. Los dientes permanecen estacionarios cuando el motor trabaja en vacío. De no hacerlo, lleve la unidad a Troy-Bilt o a otro distribuidor de servicio calificado para un ajuste.

• Antes de arrancar la unidad, asegúrese de que los dientes no estén haciendo contacto con ningún objeto.

• Use la unidad únicamente a la luz del día o con buena luz artificial.

• Evite los arranques accidentales. Póngase en la posición de arranque siempre que tire de la cuerda. El operador y la unidad deben estar en una posición estable durante el arranque.

• Use la herramienta correcta. Use esta herramienta solamente con el propósito previsto.

• Ponga extremo cuidado al dar marcha atrás o retroceder la unidad.

Tenga mucho cuidado cuando esté trabajando en pendientes pronunciadas o inclinadas.

• Sostenga siempre la unidad con ambas manos al operarla. Agarre firmemente ambos mangos o empuñaduras.

• Mantenga las manos, la cara y los pies lejos de todas las partes móviles. No toque ni trate de detener los dientes cuando estén girando.

• No toque el motor ni el silenciador. Estas partes se ponen extremadamente calientes durante la operación y aún después de apagada la unidad.

• No opere el motor a una velocidad mayor que la necesaria para cultivar. No ponga a funcionar el motor a alta velocidad si no está cultivando.

• Apague siempre el motor cuando el cultivo se demore o al caminar de un lugar de cultivo a otro.

• Si golpea o se enreda con un objeto extraño, pare de inmediato el motor y verifique si hay algún daño.

No ponga a funcionar el equipo sin reparar el daño. No opere la unidad si hay piezas flojas o dañadas.

• Apague el motor y desconecte la bujía para darle mantenimiento o hacer reparaciones.

• Utilice solamente las piezas de repuesto y accesorios del fabricante original que se listan en la sección Lista de piezas de este manual. El uso de cualquier pieza o accesorio no autorizado podría causar lesiones graves al usuario o daños a la unidad y anular la garantía.

• Mantenga la unidad limpia de vegetación y otros materiales que puedan trabarse entre los dientes y el protector.

• Limpie los dientes con un limpiador casero para eliminar la acumulación de resina. Engrase los dientes con aceite de máquina para evitar la corrosión.

• Guarde estas instrucciones. Consúltelas con frecuencia y utilícelas para instruir a otros usuarios.

1. Afloje las dos perillas del lado interior del manubrio (Fig. 2).

2. Con la unidad en posición vertical, gire el manubrio hacia arriba hasta la posición de operación (Fig. 3).

NOTA: Tenga cuidado de no pellizcar el cable del regulador o los cables del interruptor cuando coloque el manubrio.

PERSONALES GRAVES. Compruebe el nivel de aceite antes de cada uso. No se puede subestimar la importancia de mantener el nivel adecuado de aceite. Cambie el aceite según el Plan de Mantenimiento .

NOTA: Esta unidad se envió sin aceite en el cárter. Se debe añadir aceite antes de arrancar la unidad.

NOTA: Esta unidad incluye una botella de aceite de 3.04 onzas fluidas (90 ml).

1. Desenrosque la tapa de la botella de aceite. Quite el sello de papel. Reinstale el tope de la botella de aceite.

2. Quite la tapa de la botella de aceite. Corte la punta de la boquilla del embudo (Fig. 4).

NOTA: Nunca añada el aceite directamente al tanque de combustible. Esta unidad tiene un motor de cuatro tiempos.

USAR EL COMBUSTIBLE CORRECTO

El uso de un combustible viejo es la causa más común de problemas de funcionamiento. Utilice solamente gasolina fresca, limpia y sin plomo.

Definición de combustibles mezclados

Los combustibles actuales son con frecuencia una mezcla de gasolina e hidrocarburos oxigenados como el etanol, metanol o MTBE (éter). El combustible mezclado con alcohol absorbe agua. Un 1% de agua es suficiente para separar la mezcla de aceite y alcohol o formar ácidos al estar guardado.

Utilice SIEMPRE combustible fresco (con menos de 30 días).

NOTA: Deseche el aceite viejo, de conformidad con las regulaciones federales, estatales y locales.

Uso de combustibles mezclados

Si utiliza un combustible mezclado:

• Use siempre gasolina sin plomo fresca

• Use el aditivo STA-BIL® o un equivalente

• Vacíe el tanque y eche a andar el motor en seco antes de guardar la unidad

ADVERTENCIA: NO USE COMBUSTIBLE E85 EN ESTA UNIDAD.

Se ha comprobado que es probable que el combustible con más de 10% de etanol dañe este motor, lo que anulará la garantía.

Uso de aditivos para combustible

Use un aditivo, como el estabilizador de gasolina STA-BIL o un equivalente, para evitar la corrosión y minimizar los depósitos de goma. Eche 0.8 onzas (23 ml) de aditivo por galón de combustible según las instrucciones del recipiente. No eche NUNCA los aditivos directamente en el tanque de combustible de la unidad.

ENSAMBLAJE

INSTALACIÓN Y AJUSTE DEL ENSAMBLAJE DE LA RUEDA

ADVERTENCIA: Para evitar lesiones personales graves, el ensamblaje de la rueda debe ser instalado antes de poner en funcionamiento la unidad.

ADVERTENCIA: Cuando instale el ensamblaje de la rueda y para evitar lesionarse con los dientes, use guantes resistentes y camisa de mangas largas.

1. Inserte el ensamblaje de la rueda dentro de la guía de la rueda.

La sección curvada en forma de J del ensamblaje de la rueda debe apuntar hacia afuera de la unidad (Fig. 1).

NOTA: Antes de utilizar la unidad, puede que sea necesario ajustar la posición del ensamblaje de la rueda.

1. Quite el pasador de chaveta del pasador de horquilla (Fig. 1).

2. Quite el pasador de horquilla de la guía y el ensamblaje de la rueda (Fig. 1).

3. Alinee el orificio de la guía de la rueda con el orificio correspondiente del ensamblaje de la rueda (Fig. 1).

NOTA: Mover el ensamblaje de la rueda hacia abajo aumentará la altura de la rueda. Si sube el ensamblaje de la rueda disminuirá la altura de la misma.

4. Coloque el pasador de horquilla a través de los orificios alineados (Fig. 1).

5. Inserte el pasador de chaveta en el pasador de horquilla (Fig. 1).

ABASTECER DE COMBUSTIBLE LA UNIDAD

ADVERTENCIA: La gasolina es sumamente inflamable. De prenderse, los vapores pueden hacer explosión. Pare siempre el motor y deje que se enfríe antes de llenar el tanque de combustible. No fume mientras llena el tanque. Aléjese de los lugares donde haya chispas y llamas expuestas.

ADVERTENCIA: Quite lentamente la tapa de combustible a fin de evitar lesiones por salpicaduras. No opere nunca la unidad si la tapa del combustible no está bien asegurada en su lugar.

ADVERTENCIA: Eche el combustible en un área exterior bien ventilada y limpia. Limpie de inmediato todo el combustible derramado. Evite el peligro de incendio debido a combustible derramado. No arranque el motor hasta que no se hayan disipado los vapores de combustible.

1. Coloque la unidad con la tapa del tanque de combustible mirando hacia arriba.

2. Quítele la tapa al tanque.

3. Coloque la boquilla del depósito de gasolina en el orificio de llenado del tanque de combustible y llénelo.

NOTA: No rebose el tanque.

4. Limpie todo el combustible que pueda haberse derramado.

5. Vuelva a ponerle la tapa al tanque de gasolina.

6. Antes de arrancar el motor, aleje la unidad a una distancia de 30 pies (9.1 m) como mínimo del lugar de abasto de combustible.

ARRANQUE Y PARADA

ADVERTENCIA:

Los dientes GIRARÁN al ARRANCAR . Para arrancar la unidad, párese siempre en la posición de arranque y ponga un pie en la rueda.

ADVERTENCIA: Opere esta unidad solamente en un área exterior bien ventilada. El monóxido de carbono de los gases de escape puede ser letal en un área confinada.

ADVERTENCIA: Evite arrancar la unidad por accidente. A fin de evitar lesiones graves, el operador y la unidad deben estar en una posición estable al tirar de la cuerda de arranque (Fig. 8).

INSTRUCCIONES DE ARRANQUE

1. Verifique el nivel de aceite. Consulte la sección Cómo comprobar el nivel de aceite .

NOTA: No hay necesidad de encender la unidad. El interruptor de

Encendido/Apagado debe estar en la posición ENCENDIDO ( I ) en todo momento (Fig. 6).

Para funcionamiento en tiempo de frío (por debajo de 40°F), gire la palanca de arranque roja para tiempo frío (Fig.

7) hacia abajo hasta la posición de cerrada y continúe al paso

3. Oprima y suelte despacio la pera del cebador 10 veces (Fig. 7).

Si no se ve combustible en la pera del cebador, oprima y suelte la pera hasta que se vea el combustible.

NOTA: Incline la unidad ligeramente hacia atrás para levantar las púas del suelo al arrancar.

CONSEJOS PARA LA OPERACIÓN

ADVERTENCIA:

Vista en forma adecuada para reducir el riesgo de lesiones cuando opere esta unidad. No use ropa holgada ni alhajas. Use protección ocular y auditiva. Use pantalones largos y gruesos, botas y guantes. No use pantalones cortos, sandalias ni trabaje descalzo.

1. Mueva el cultivador al área de trabajo antes de arrancar el motor. Transporte la cultivadora empujándola o halándola sobre sus ruedas.

ADVERTENCIA: Para evitar graves lesiones personales, nunca levante ni transporte la unidad con el motor en marcha.

2. Arranque la unidad siguiendo las Instrucciones de arranque .

3. Con el motor en marcha y las púas sin tocar el suelo, oprima el control del regulador para aumentar la velocidad del motor.

4. Mientras que sostiene la manija superior con ambas manos, baje lentamente el cultivador hasta que las púas hacen contacto con el suelo (Fig. 9).

5. A medida que comienza el cultivo, incline el cultivador ligeramente usando los manubrios de modo que las púas puedan penetrar en la tierra.

6. Una vez que la tierra se haya aflojado, siga avanzando a un paso moderado.

ADVERTENCIA: Para evitar graves lesiones personales, tenga mucho cuidado cuando invierta o gire la unidad hacia usted.

7. Si las púas están cavando con una profundidad excesiva o insuficiente, ajuste el soporte de la rueda de acuerdo a la sección de Ajuste de la Profundidad de las Púas .

AJUSTE DE LA PROFUNDIDAD

Los dientes deberían entrar de 5 a 6 pulgadas en la mayoría de los suelos de jardín. De ser necesario, ajuste los dientes como sigue:

1. Apague el motor y espere que se enfríe. Tome el alambre de la bujía con firmeza y sáquelo de la bujía de encendido.

2. Para que los dientes entren a menos profundidad, suba la altura de la rueda, de lo contrario, baje la altura de la rueda.

3. Vuelva a conectar el cable de la bujía de encendido y continúe su uso.

TRANSPORTE DE LA UNIDAD

ADVERTENCIA: Para evitar lesiones personales graves, apague siempre el motor cuando la operación se demore o al mover la unidad de un lugar a otro.

INSTRUCCIONES DE APAGADO

1. Suelte el control del regulador y deje que el motor trabaje en vacío.

2. Oprima y no suelte el interruptor de control de Encendido y Apagado en la posición APAGADO (O) hasta que el motor se detenga por completo (Fig. 6).

1. Apague el motor.

2. Incline la unidad hacia atrás hasta que las púas desmalezan la tierra.

3. Empuje o lleve la unidad hasta el próximo lugar que deba cultivar.

INSTRUCCIONES DE ARRANQUE

1. Verifique el nivel de aceite. Consulte la sección Cómo comprobar el nivel de aceite .

2. Llene el tanque de combustible. Consulte Abastecer de combustible la unidad .

NOTA: No hay necesidad de encender la unidad. El interruptor de Encendido/Apagado debe estar en la posición ENCENDIDO ( I ) en todo momento (Fig. 6).


Para funcionamiento en tiempo de frío (por debajo de 40°F), gire la palanca de arranque roja para tiempo frío (Fig. 7) hacia abajo hasta la posición de cerrada y continúe al paso

3. NO gire esta palanca hacia abajo si la temperatura está por encima de 40°F.

3. Oprima y suelte despacio la pera del cebador 10 veces (Fig. 7). Si no se ve combustible en la pera del cebador, oprima y suelte la pera hasta que se vea el combustible.

NOTA: Asegúrese de tener siempre la unidad inclinada un poco hacia atrás para que los dientes de la tierra cuando se inicia.

4. Mantenga el manillar con una mano. Coloque el arrancador eléctrico o el accesorio de arranque eléctrico opcional en la parte trasera de la unidad. Consulte la sección de Operación del manual del operador del Arrancador Eléctrico o Accesorio de Arranque Eléctrico Opcional Power Start Bit™.

5.

No apriete el acelerador , oprima y mantenga oprimido el botón ON (I) del arrancador eléctrico o del Power Bit Start™ equipado con taladro a intervalos no mayores de 2 segundos hasta que la unidad arranque.

6. Una vez que la unidad se inicia, quitar el arrancador eléctrico o el taladro de la unidad y espere

60 segundos.


Para funcionamiento en tiempo de frío (por debajo de 40°F), gire la palanca de arranque roja para tiempo frío de nuevo hacia arriba a la posición de abierta después de que la unidad haya arrancado y antes de oprimir el control del regulador.

7. Apriete el control del regulador y deje que el motor se caliente de 30 a 60 segundos. La unidad se puede usar durante este tiempo.

El motor no arranca, regrese al paso 3.

SI...

El motor se para mientras oprime el regulador, regrese al paso 4.

SI...

El motor está caliente, regrese al paso 3.

INSTRUCCIONES DE APAGADO

1. Suelte el control del regulador y deje que el motor trabaje en vacío.

2. Oprima y no suelte el interruptor de control de Encendido y Apagado en la posición APAGADO (O) hasta que el motor se detenga por completo (Fig. 6).

MANTENIMIENTO

ADVERTENCIA:

Para evitar lesiones graves, no haga nunca ningún mantenimiento ni reparación con la unidad funcionando. Siempre deje que la unidad se enfríe antes de darle mantenimiento o repararla. Desconecte el cable de la bujía para evitar que la unidad arranque por accidente.

PLAN DE MANTENIMIENTO

Lleve a cabo los procedimientos necesarios de mantenimiento con la frecuencia indicada en la tabla.

Estos procedimientos deberán también formar parte de cualquier ajuste de temporada.

NOTA: Algunos procedimientos de mantenimiento pueden requerir el uso de herramientas o habilidades especiales. Si no está seguro acerca de estos procedimientos, lleve su unidad a un establecimiento de reparación, persona o distribuidor de servicio autorizado que arregle motores para uso fuera de la carretera.

NOTA: El mantenimiento, la sustitución o arreglo de dispositivos para el control de emisiones y sistemas pueden ser hechos por cualquier establecimiento de reparación, persona o proveedor de servicio autorizado que arregle motores para uso fuera de la carretera.

MANTENIMIENTO

MANTENIMIENTO DEL FILTRO DE AIRE

ADVERTENCIA:

Para evitar lesiones personales graves, apague siempre el motor y deje que se enfríe antes de limpiar o dar mantenimiento a la unidad.

No dar mantenimiento al filtro de aire correctamente puede hacer que el motor funcione mal o dañarlo para siempre. La falla del motor debida al mantenimiento inadecuado del filtro no está cubierta por la garantía del producto.

1. Abra la tapa del filtro de aire desenroscando el tornillo correspondiente (Fig. 16).

2. Saque el filtro de aire del interior de la caja (Fig. 17).

3. Lave el filtro de aire con agua y detergente. Enjuague bien el filtro y déjelo secar.

4. Recúbralo con una ligera capa de aceite SAE 30 limpio.

5. Exprima el filtro para esparcir y eliminar el exceso de aceite.

6. Vuelva a poner el filtro dentro de la caja del filtro de aire (Fig. 17).

NOTA: Operar la unidad sin el filtro de aire, ANULARÁ la garantía.

7. Inserte los ganchos de la caja del filtro de aire en las ranuras de la tapa del filtro (Fig. 17).

8. Gire la cubierta del filtro de aire hacia la izquierda y alinee el tornillo de la cubierta con el orificio correspondiente (Fig. 17).

Apriete el tornillo para asegurar la tapa del filtro de aire.

NOTA: No apriete demasiado ya que se puede dañar la rosca del tornillo.

SACAR Y CAMBIAR LOS DIENTES

ADVERTENCIA: Para evitar lesiones personales graves, use siempre guantes resistentes al manipular los dientes.

Todos los dientes deberán reemplazarse a la misma vez, ya que se desgastarán uniformemente por el uso normal. Trabaje seguido en cada lado.

2. Quite el retén del pasador de horquilla que está entre los 2 dientes exteriores (Fig. 11)

3. Quite el pasador de horquilla y saque los dientes del eje (Fig. 11).

4. Limpie y engrase el eje.

5. Coloque los dientes nuevos con los bujes encarados uno al otro (Fig. 10).

NOTA: Asegúrese de poner primero en el eje el diente simple y los dientes dobles en el exterior, así como de alinear los orificios de los dientes externos y del exterior del eje (Fig. 10).

6. Sujete los nuevos dientes en el eje colocando el pasador de horquilla en los orificios que están entre los 2 dientes externos.

7. Insértele el retén al pasador de horquilla para asegurar los dientes.

8. Repita los pasos 2 al 7 para el lado opuesto.

AJUSTAR LA VELOCIDAD DE MARCHA EN VACÍO

ADVERTENCIA: Los dientes pueden girar durante los ajustes de marcha en vacío. Use ropa de protección y observe todas las instrucciones de seguridad para evitar lesiones personales graves.

NOTA: Los ajustes negligentes pueden dañar seriamente la unidad.

Los ajustes del carburador debe hacerlos un distribuidor de servicio autorizado.

Si después de comprobar el combustible y limpiar el filtro de aire, el motor aún no trabaja en vacío, ajuste el tornillo de marcha en vacío de la siguiente manera:

1. Arranque el motor. Consulte la sección Arranque y Parada .

2. Suelte el control del regulador y deje que el motor trabaje en vacío. Si el motor se apaga, use un destornillador pequeño

Phillips para girar el tornillo de marcha en vacío en el sentido de las agujas del reloj, dándole 1/8 de vuelta cada vez (según sea necesario), hasta que el motor funcione en marcha en vacío sin inconvenientes (Fig. 18).

3. Si el motor entra en marcha en vacío muy rápidamente, gire el tornillo de marcha en vacío en sentido contrario a las agujas del reloj 1/8 de vuelta cada vez (según sea necesario) para reducir la marcha en vacío (Fig. 18).

Comprobar el combustible, limpiar el filtro de aire y ajustar la marcha en vacío, deberían resolver la mayoría de los problemas del motor. En caso contrario y de no cumplirse ninguna de las siguientes condiciones, lleve la unidad a un distribuidor de servicio calificado:

• el motor no funciona en marcha en vacío

• el motor falla o se cala al acelerar

• hay una pérdida de potencia del motor

CÓMO COMPROBAR EL NIVEL DE ACEITE

ADVERTENCIA: LLENAR DEMASIADO EL CÁRTER PUEDE CAUSAR LESIONES

PERSONALES GRAVES. Compruebe el nivel de aceite antes de cada uso. No se puede subestimar la importancia de mantener el nivel adecuado de aceite.

1. Detenga el motor y déjelo enfriar.

2.

Coloque la unidad en una superficie plana . Coloca la unidad de manera que el motor este de forma horizontal (Fig. 12).

NOTA: No mantener el motor nivelado puede causar que el aceite se derrame.

3. Limpie el área alrededor del tapón de llenado de aceite (Fig. 5) para evitar que entren desechos al orificio de llenado de aceite.

4. Desenrosque el tapón de llenado de aceite.

5. Inspeccione el orificio de llenado de aceite, use una linterna si es necesario. El nivel de aceite debe tocar justamente la rosca inferior del tapón de llenado de aceite (Fig. 13). Si el nivel de aceite está muy bajo, añada aceite al orificio de llenado hasta que el aceite toque la rosca inferior del orificio.

CÓMO CAMBIAR EL ACEITE

Cambie el aceite con el motor todavía caliente. El aceite fluirá libremente y arrastrará más impurezas.

1. Limpie el área alrededor del tapón de llenado de aceite (Fig. 5) para evitar que entren desechos al orificio de llenado de aceite.

2. Desenrosque el tapón de llenado de aceite.

3. Incline la unidad verticalmente para verter el aceite del orifico de llenado en un recipiente (Fig. 14). Dele suficiente tiempo para que drene completamente.

NOTA: Deseche el aceite viejo, de conformidad con las regulaciones federales, estatales y locales.


5. Vierta 3.04 onzas fluidas (90 ml) de aceite SAE 30 SJ en el orificio de llenado de aceite.

NOTA: NO rebose el tanque. Consulte la sección Cómo comprobar el nivel de aceite .

CÓMO COMPROBAR LA HOLGURA DEL BALANCÍN

Para hacer este ajuste es necesario desarmar el motor. Si usted no está seguro o no se considera calificado para realizar esto, lleve la unidad a centro de servicio calificado.

El motor tiene que estar frío cuando verifique o ajuste la holgura del balancín. Esta tarea debe realizarse en interiores, en un área limpia y libre de polvo.

1. Quite los 6 tornillos de la tapa del motor con un destornillador plano o un destornillador Torx T-25 (Fig. 19). Quite la cubierta del motor.

2. Desconecte el cable de la bujía.

3. Limpie el área alrededor de la bujía.

4. Saque la bujía del cilindro girándola en sentido contrario a las agujas del reloj con una llave de bujía de 5/8.

5. Limpie la tapa del balancín.

6. Quite el tornillo de la tapa del balancín con un destornillador plano o un destornillador Torx T-25 (Fig. 20). Quite la tapa del balancín y la junta.(Fig. 21).

7. Inspecciona el orificio de la bujía (Fig. 20) y hala la cuerda de arranque lentamente para mover el piston. Asegúrese de que:

• El pistón esté en la posición de máximo recorrido (punto muerto superior)

8. Use un calibrador de hoja para medir la holgura entre uno de los vástagos de las válvulas y su balancín correspondiente (Fig. 22).

Repite este proceso para el otro vástago de la válvula y el balancín. La holgura recomendada es de 0.003 pulgadas a

0.006 pulgadas (de 0.076 mm a 0.152 mm) . Use un calibrador de hoja automotriz estándar de 0.005 pulgadas (0.127 mm) . El calibrador de hoja debe deslizarse entre el balancín y el vástago de la válvula con una ligera resistencia, sin doblarse (Fig. 22).

b. Vuelva a comprobar y ajustar ambas holguras, según sea necesario.

10. Instale una junta nueva y reinstale la tapa del balancín. Apriete el tornillo a: 20–30 pulgada•libra

(2.2–3.4 N•m) .

11. Compruebe la bujía y vuelva a instalarla. Consulte el tema Mantenimiento de la bujía .

12. Vuelva a conectar el cable de la bujía.

13. Vuelva a instalar la cubierta del motor. Antes de apretar los tornillos, revise la alineación de la cubierta del motor. Apriete los tornillos.

MANTENIMIENTO

MANTENIMIENTO DE LA BUJÍA

1. Detenga el motor y déjelo enfriar.

2. Quite los 6 tornillos de la tapa del motor con un destornillador plano o un destornillador Torx T-25

(Fig. 19). Quite la cubierta del motor.

3. Agarre firmemente la pipa (capucha) y sáquela de la bujía.

4. Limpie alrededor de la bujía. Saque la bujía de la culata girándola en sentido contrario a la agujas del reloj con una llave de bujía de 5/8 de pulgada.

ADVERTENCIA: No sople, raspe ni limpie los electrodos con arena. La arenisca en el motor podría dañar el cilindro.

5. Inspeccione la bujía. Si la bujía de encendido está rajada, corroída o sucia, reemplácela con una pieza de repuesto #753-05784 , Champion RDZ4H o una bujía equivalente.

6. Use un calibrador de hoja para ajustar abertura de la bujía a

0.025 pulgadas (0.635 mm) (Fig. 23).

7. Instale la bujía en la culata del motor. Apriete la bujía en el sentido de las agujas del reloj con una llave de bujía de 5/8 hasta ajustarla.

NOTA: Si usa una llave dinamométrica, use un par de torsión de:

110-120 pulgada•libra (12.3-13.5 N•m). No apriete demasiado.

8. Vuelva a ponerle la pipa (capucha).

9. Vuelva a instalar la cubierta del motor. Antes de apretar los tornillos, revise la alineación de la cubierta del motor. Apriete los tornillos.

LIMPIEZA Y ALMACENAMIENTO

LIMPIEZA

ADVERTENCIA: Para evitar lesiones personales graves, apague siempre el motor y deje que se enfríe antes de limpiar o dar mantenimiento a la unidad.

Use un cepillo pequeño para limpiar la unidad por fuera. No utilice detergentes fuertes. Los limpiadores caseros que contienen aceites esenciales, por ejemplo, de pino y limón, y los solventes como el queroseno, pueden dañar el plástico. Seque la humedad con un paño suave.

ALMACENAMIENTO

• No guarde nunca la unidad con combustible en el tanque en un lugar en el que los gases puedan ponerse en contacto con una llama expuesta o chispas.

• Espere a que el motor se enfríe para guardar la unidad.

• Guarde la unidad bajo llave para evitar su uso no autorizado o daño.

• Guarde la unidad en un lugar seco y bien ventilado.

• Guarde la unidad fuera del alcance de los niños.

Almacenamiento a largo plazo

1. Quítele la tapa al tanque de combustible, incline la unidad y vacíe el combustible en un contenedor aprobado.

2. Arranque el motor y déjelo funcionar hasta que se cale. Con esto se asegura vaciar todo el combustible del carburador.

3. Espere a que el motor se enfríe. Quítele la bujía y eche 5 gotas de cualquier aceite de motor de alta calidad en el cilindro. Tire despacio de la cuerda de arranque para distribuir el aceite. Vuelva a poner la bujía.

4. Limpie bien la unidad y compruebe que no haya piezas sueltas o dañadas. Repare o reemplace las piezas dañadas y apriete los tornillos, tuercas o pernos flojos.

Preparar la unidad para usarla después de un almacenamiento prolongado

1. Saque la bujía y vacíe todo el aceite que está en el cilindro.

2. Cambie el aceite. Consulte la sección Cómo cambiar el aceite .

NOTA: No use un combustible que haya estado almacenado por más de 30 días. Deseche el aceite y el combustible viejos de conformidad con las regulaciones federales, estatales y locales.

The limited warranty set forth below is given by Troy-Bilt LLC (Troy-Bilt) with respect to new merchandise purchased and used in the United States, its possessions and territories.

Troy-Bilt warrants this product against defects in material and workmanship for a period of two (2) years commencing on the date of original purchase and will, at its option, repair or replace, free of charge, any part found to be defective in material or workmanship. This limited warranty shall only apply if this product has been operated and maintained in accordance with the Operator’s Manual furnished with the product, and has not been subject to misuse, abuse, commercial use, neglect, accident, improper maintenance, alteration, vandalism, theft, fire, water or damage because of other peril or natural disaster.

Damage resulting from the installation or use of any accessory or attachment not approved by Troy-Bilt for use with the product(s) covered by this manual will void your warranty as to any resulting damage.

This warranty is limited to ninety (90) days from the date of original retail purchase for any Troy-Bilt product that is used for rental or commercial purposes, or any other income-producing purpose.

This limited warranty does not provide coverage in the following cases:

A. Tune-ups - Spark Plugs, Carburetor Adjustments, Filters

B. Wear items - Bump Knobs, Outer Spools, Cutting Line, Inner Reels, Starter Pulley, Starter Ropes, Drive Belts, Saw Chains, Guide Bars, Cultivator Tines.

C. Troy-Bilt does not extend any warranty for products sold or exported outside of the United States of America, its possessions and territories, except those sold through Troy-Bilt’s authorized channels of export distribution.

Troy-Bilt reserves the right to change or improve the design of any Troy-Bilt Product without assuming any obligation to modify any product previously manufactured.

No implied warranty, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, applies after the applicable period of express written warranty above as to the parts as identified. No other express warranty or guaranty, whether written or oral, except as mentioned above, given by any person or entity, including a dealer or retailer, with respect to any product shall bind Troy-Bilt. During the period of the Warranty, the exclusive remedy is repair or replacement of the product as set forth above.

(Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you.)

The provisions as set forth in this Warranty provide the sole and exclusive remedy arising from the sales. Troy-Bilt shall not be liable for incidental or consequential loss or damages including, without limitation, expenses incurred for substitute or replacement lawn care services, for transportation or for related expenses, or for rental expenses to temporarily replace a warranted product.

(Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you.)

In no event shall recovery of any kind be greater than the amount of the purchase price of the product sold. Alteration of the safety features of the product shall void this Warranty. You assume the risk and liability for loss, damage, or injury to you and your property and/or to others and their property arising out of the use or misuse or inability to use the product.

This limited warranty shall not extend to anyone other than the original purchaser, original lessee or the person for whom it was purchased as a gift.
