Cleaning the Wheels, Tires and Track
Periodically check the locomotive wheels andpickups
for dirt and buildup, whichcan cause poor electrical
contact andtraction and prematurelywear outthe
neoprenetraction tires. Wheels andtires can be cleaned
usingdenatured(not rubbing) alcohol appliedwith a
cottonswab.
To cleanthetrack, use RailKing TrackCleaning Fluid
andaclean rag or denatured(notrubbing) alcohol. Unplug the transformerand wipe the
rails of the track,turningtheragfrequentlytoensurethatyouareusingcleancloth onthe
rails. Because themanufacturing processleaves a coatingonRealTrax center rail, you
shouldcleantherailsafterthe first 30minutesofuse(youmaynotice anelectrical smell
duringinitial useas the coating wears off; thisisnormal). Thereafter, keep aneyeonthe
track andclean it when it gets dirty to ensure good electrical contact andto lengthen the
life ofthe tires.
