Important safety information

Your Tower speaker should be treated with care. The information below has been provided in the interest of safety and will help you to enjoy this product and the benefits it brings for many years.

• Keep the product and all its parts out of reach of small children.

• This product is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

• Keep it dry. Avoid exposure to precipitation, humidity and liquids which could all affect the product circuitry.

• Do NOT leave it in high temperatures as electronic devices and plastic parts may warp in heat.

• Do NOT leave it in low temperatures as moisture can form inside the product, which may damage the circuit board.

• Do NOT block or cover slots, holes or openings on the product by placing on soft furnishings such as carpets, rugs or beds as these are provided for functionality and/or ventilation to ensure safe operation of the product

• Do NOT store in dusty or dirty areas.

• Disconnect your Tower speaker from the mains power supply during thunderstorms.

• Always check that you have completely switched off your Tower speaker, before you change or disconnect the power supply.

• Only use the power supply that came with the product. Using an unauthorised power supply will invalidate your guarantee and may irrecoverably damage the product.

• Where the mains power plug or an appliance coupler is used as the disconnect device, the disconnect device shall remain readily operable.

• Do NOT attempt to open the product. This product does not contain any user serviceable parts. Unauthorised handling of the device may damage it and will void your warranty.

• Do NOT use your Tower speaker near emergency/intensive care medical equipment; if you have a pacemaker fitted or during an electrical storm.

• Do NOT use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents or detergents to clean the product. Wipe with a damp (not wet) soft cloth to clean.

• If the Tower speaker remote control will not be used for a long period of time, make sure that all of the batteries are removed from the battery compartment.

• Only use recommended batteries or those of the same equivalent type.

• Do not mix old and new batteries or batteries of different types.

• Batteries are to be inserted with the correct polarity.

• The supply terminals are not to be short-circuited.

• Do not attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries

• Dispose of old batteries carefully.

• Never throw batteries in a fire or attempt to open the outer casing.

Batteries are harmful if swallowed, so keep away from young children.

Instructions for use

Check the package contents

The package contains:

• 1 x Tower speaker

• 1 x Base

• 2 x Assembly screws

• 1 x Dock support stand

• 1 x Stereo audio connection cable with 3.5mm plug

• 1 x Mains adaptor

• 1 x Remote control

• 1 x Instruction manual

Where to put your Tower speaker

It is important that you consider carefully in advance where your Tower speaker will be situated and make sure that it is:

• on a flat and stable surface

Note: Never place your Tower speaker on antique or polished surfaces.

• within 1.4 metres of a power socket. Please ensure that the mains power lead is not a trip hazard.

• at least 1 metre away from other electrical appliances to avoid interference

• where it will be in range of the connected or ‘paired’ blutooth device (eg. iPod/ iPhone/iPad/Android/other phone/computer), which is about 10 metres or less

(33 feet or less) in line of sight.

• where you can easily access the controls on the top of the product, if you choose not to use the remote control.

• where you can fully extend the wire radio aerial

• away from bright sunlight or heat sources, such as a radiator

• not in a humid or very damp place such as a bathroom

Setting up

1. Attach the Tower speaker to the separate base using the screws supplied.

2. Insert the dock support stand supplied into the slot on the top of the Tower speaker, just behind the dock connector.

3. Insert 2 x AAA batteries into the remote control, noting the ‘+’ and ‘-’ markings and position the batteries the correct way around.

4. Replace the battery cover, making sure it ‘clicks’ shut.

5. Connect the mains power lead into the socket on the back of the Tower speaker at the top.

6. Plug the power adaptor into the mains power wall socket and switch on. The red

Standby led will light up.

7. Press and release the ‘ ’ button on the top of the Tower speaker or on the remote control. The display will fully switch on and the current mode (iPod/BT/LINE/AUX/

Radio frequency) will be displayed.

Using your Tower Speaker with Dock

Switch on

Press and release the ‘ ’ button on the top of the Tower speaker or on the remote control. The display will fully switch on and the current mode (iPod/BT/LINE/AUX/

Radio frequency) will be displayed.

Switch off

Press and release the ‘ ’ button on the top of the Tower speaker or on the remote control. The Tower speaker will go into Standby mode and the red Standby led will light up.

To completely switch off the Tower speaker, switch off the mains power at the wall socket.

Note: If you do not use your Tower speaker for 15 minutes and no audio signal is received, the speaker will automatically go into standby mode. Press the ‘ ’ button on the top of the speaker or on the remote control to switch the product back on.

Change the mode

Briefly press the ‘Source’ button on the top of the Tower speaker or on the remote control to change modes. iPod/BT/LINE/AUX/Radio modes are available. Please check the display, which will confirm the mode.

Adjusting the volume

Use the ‘Volume +’ or ‘Volume -’ buttons on the Tower speaker or on the remote control to adjust the volume. When you adjust the volume, please check the display which will confirm the volume setting.

Mute

Press and release the ‘Mute’ button on the remote control to turn the sound off. ‘Mute’ will be displayed

Press and release the ‘Mute’ button to turn the sound on again.

Adjusting the bass setting

Use the ‘Bass +’ or ‘Bass -’ buttons on the remote control to adjust the bass setting.

When you adjust the bass, please check the display, which will confirm the setting.

The remote signal may not be received if there is an obstacle between the remote and the Tower speaker.

Direct sunlight or other bright light sources shining on the remote sensor may affect the performance of the remote control.

iPod/iPhone/iPad mode

iPod/iPhone/iPad mode

Check that your Tower speaker is in iPod mode. If you are not already in iPod mode, briefly press and release the ‘Source’ button on the top of your Tower speaker or on the remote control, until you are in iPod mode (check the display).

Note: Your Tower speaker has an Apple lightning connector. The lightning connector works with iPhone 5, iPad (4th generation), iPad mini, iPod touch (5th generation and iPod nano (7th generation).

Dock your iPod/iPhone/iPad

Note: If you use a cover with your iPod/iPhone/iPad, please remove it before attempting to dock your product.

Line up the connector on the bottom of your iPod/iPhone/iPad with the dock connector on the top of the Tower speaker and push down to connect.

The dock will begin to charge your iPod/iPhone/iPad, if necessary and will begin to play the music stored on your iPod/iPhone/iPad.

Charging will stop automatically when your iPod/iPhone/iPad is fully charged (check your iPod/iPhone/iPad display).

Note: Care should be taken when connecting your iPod/iPhone/iPad to the dock connector to avoid damage. Please ensure to line up your iPod/iPhone/iPad with the dock connector before pushing down.

Playing your iPod/iPhone/iPad

You can use the controls on the top of the Tower speaker or on the remote control when your iPod/iPhone/iPad is docked.

Note: Menu and Enter button functions on the remote control cannot be used with

Apple OS 7.0 or above.

Play/Pause: Briefly press the ll button to play/pause.

Skip forward: Press and hold the skip l button.

Skip back:

Next track:

Press and hold the skip l button.

Briefly press the skip l button.

Previous track: Briefly press the skip l button.

Repeat: Press the repeat button to set repeat single/repeat all/repeat off modes. Check your iPod/iPhone/iPad display.

Random: Press the random button to turn random playback on or off.

Menu:

Enter:

Press the menu button to display your iPod/iPhone menu. Check your product display.

Press the menu button repeatedly to enter or exit the display menus.

/ (Up/Down)

Use the up and down buttons to move up and down or highlight the displayed options.

Press to select a highlighted option.

Note: The Menu and / (Up and Down) functions cannot be used with an iPad.

Please access your docked iPad directly.

Remove your iPod/iPhone/iPad

Hold the Tower speaker steady with one hand and pull up your iPod/iPhone/iPad with the other hand, until it is clear of the dock connector.

Bluetooth mode

Bluetooth (BT) mode

Check that your Tower speaker is in Bluetooth mode. If you are not already in

Bluetooth mode, briefly press and release the ‘Source’ button on the top of the Tower speaker or on the remote control until you are in Bluetooth mode (check the display,

‘BT’ will be displayed).

Connecting or ‘Pairing’ with your Tower speaker

In Bluetooth (BT) Mode:

1. On your Tower speaker ‘BT’ will flash in the display whilst trying to connect with other Bluetooth devices.

2. On the device that you would like to connect to your Tower speaker via Bluetooth

(e.g. iPhone/iPad/Android/other phone/Computer), turn on Bluetooth connectivity and ensure that it is ‘discoverable’.

Note: If necessary, refer to the instructions for your device to add or set up

Bluetooth

3. Select to ‘Add new device’, if necessary.

Note: Some products will automatically search for a new device and so the ‘Add new device’ option is not available.

4. When found, your Tower speaker will be displayed as ‘BUSH Audio’. Select the device name to begin pairing.

5. When pairing is complete the ‘BT’ in the Tower speaker display will stop flashing and a tone will sound.

6. Now that you have paired your device with the Tower speaker, it will connect to it when it is within range, which is about 10 metres or less (33 feet or less), line of sight.

Note: If your device requests a password, please enter ‘0000’.

Please ensure that you disconnect any audio connection cables from the Tower speaker before you attempt to play any music via Bluetooth.

Listening to Music/Audio using Bluetooth

In Bluetooth mode:

1. Select and start the music or audio that you wish to listen to on your paired

Bluetooth device.

Note: If your previously paired device is within range but does not automatically connect, go to the Bluetooth connectivity settings on your device and select

‘BUSH Audio’ to reconnect.

2. You can use the controls on your Bluetooth device as normal when it is paired with the Tower speaker.

Using the FM radio

Wire FM aerial

Please make sure that the wire FM aerial on the back of the Tower speaker is fully extended before you attempt to tune to an FM station. This will ensure that the maximum signal strength is available when the Tower speaker begins to scan.

Extending the aerial also ensures the best possible sound quality.

FM Radio mode

If you are not already in FM mode, briefly press and release the ‘Source’ button on the top of the Tower speaker or on the remote control, until you are in FM mode (check the display, an FM frequency such as 93.30 will be displayed).

If you were listening to an FM station when you switched the Tower speaker off then this station will be automatically selected when you switch the Tower speaker back on.

Tuning to an FM station

In FM mode:

1. Press and hold the ‘Tune -’ or the ‘Tune +’ button on the top of your Tower speaker or on the remote control. Your Tower speaker will begin to search for the next available station and then stop on that station.

‘Tune -’ scans down the frequency band and ‘Tune +’ scans up the frequency band.

2. Briefly press and release the ‘Tune -’ or the ‘Tune +’ button on the top of your

Tower speaker or on the remote control to fine tune each frequency if necessary.

Note: If reception is still poor check that the wire aerial is fully extended or try moving the Tower speaker to another location.

Storing an FM station preset

Your Tower speaker can store up to 20 FM radio stations in its preset memories for instant access to your favourite stations.

1. Tune the Tower speaker to the FM radio station that you wish to preset.

2. Press and release the ‘Memory’ button on the remote control.

3. ‘CHXX’ is displayed, where ‘XX’ is the number of the preset (01-20). The ‘XX’ will flash.

4. Press and release the ‘Memory’ button on the remote control again to store the preset. The ‘CHXX’ will stop flashing.

Note: If there is already an existing FM station stored under a preset, it will be over written when you store the new station.

Tune to an FM station preset

In FM mode:

1. Briefly press the ‘Channel -’ or ‘Channel +’ button on the remote control to move through the preset locations (01-20).

2. When you stop on a preset location your Tower speaker will tune to that station and begin to play.

Stereo/Mono

When listening to the radio you can switch between stereo and mono.

1. Press and release the ‘Stereo/Mono’ button on the remote control to switch between Stereo and Mono. An icon on the Tower speaker display will confirm if you are in Stereo or Mono mode.

LINE in mode

LINE in mode

If you are not already in LINE in mode, briefly press and release the ‘Source’ button on the top of the Tower speaker or on the remote control until you are in LINE in mode.

‘LINE’ will be displayed.

1. Connect an audio cable (not supplied) to the Audio Output Jacks (White = Left /

Red = Right) on the DVD player to the rear of the Tower speaker.

2. Start the DVD/VCR/DVR and select the audio/video files to start the playback.

AUX in mode

Aux in mode

If you are not already in Aux in mode, briefly press and release the ‘Source’ button on the top of the Tower speaker or on the remote control until you are in Aux in mode.

‘AUX’ will be displayed.

Using the Stereo audio connection cable with 3.5mm plug supplied, Aux in allows for a quick and easy connection to an external sound source.

1. Connect one end of the audio connection cable to the headphone (or auxiliary out) socket of your secondary device, connect the other end to the Aux in socket on the top of your Tower speaker.

2. Press the ‘Play’ button on your external device to start playback through the Tower speaker.

3. To gain optimal volume levels, adjust the output volume level on both the secondary device and on the Tower speaker

Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing problems with your Tower speaker, there are some quick and easy checks that you can do, which may help to solve the problem.

Problem

No sound / power:

Solution

• Check that the mains power cable is connected securely, is plugged in and the power switched on.

• Check that you are not in Standby mode. Press the button on the top of the Tower speaker or on the remote control to turn the Tower speaker on.

• Increase the volume.

• The connected device is not in playback mode.

• Check that you are in the correct mode for the music that you wish to listen to. Press ‘Source’ on the Tower speaker or on the remote control to change the mode.

Sound distortion: • The volume or bass levels are too high. Please reduce the volume or bass levels.

• The volume level of the connected device is too high. Please reduce the volume of the connected device.

Radio reception is poor: • Fully extend the wire aerial to get the best reception and sound quality.

• Retune for radio stations, see page 13.

• Try moving your Tower speaker to another location to see if reception improves.

• Check that you do not have other electrical equipment too close to your Tower speaker, causing interference.

Problem Solution

Your iPod/iPhone/iPad does not dock:

• If you use a cover with your iPod/iPhone/iPad, please remove it before docking your product.

• Remove your iPod/iPhone/iPad and check that the connector on the dock and your iPod/iPhone/iPad are clean and free from obstructions.

iPod/iPhone/iPad does not play:

• Check that the power lead is plugged into the back of the Tower speaker and that the mains adaptor is plugged in and switched on.

• Check that the Tower speaker is not in Standby mode. Press and release the ‘ ’ button on the top of the Tower speaker or on the remote control to power on the Tower speaker.

• Check that the iPod/iPhone/iPad is docked. Line up the connector on the bottom of your iPod/ iPhone/iPad with the connector on the Tower speaker and push down to connect.

• Check that you are in iPod mode. Briefly press and release the ‘Source’ button on the top of the

Tower speaker or on the remote control until

IPOD is displayed.

• Check that you have selected a music track.

• Check that your iPod/iPhone/iPad is not paused and that the volume on the Tower speaker is turned up.

iPod/iPhone does not charge:

• Check that the Tower speaker is connected to mains power.

• Check that your iPod/iPhone/iPad has been pushed fully home onto the dock connector.

• Your iPod/iPhone/iPad may already be fully charged. Check your iPod/iPhone/iPad screen.

Problem

Unable to pair with a

Bluetooth device:

Solution

• Check that you are in Bluetooth mode. Press and release the ‘Source’ button on the top of the Tower speaker or on the remote control until you are in Bluetooth (BT) mode. Check the display.

• Ensure that you are within range of the Tower speaker for Bluetooth functionality (less than 10 metres, line of sight).

• Move the Tower speaker and Bluetooth device away from other Bluetooth devices/electrical equipment.

• If possible, turn off other nearby Bluetooth devices or disable their Bluetooth functionality.

Aux in/LINE in function failure

• Check that you are in the correct mode for the connected external device. Press and release the ‘Source’ button on the top of the Tower speaker or on the remote control until you are in the appropriate mode (AUX in or LINE will be displayed).

Remote control no longer works

• Ensure that you are in range of the Tower speaker when you use the Remote control and

+/- 30 degrees. See page 9.

• The batteries may be exhausted. Please replace the batteries.
