1.1 Funktion
•
Erfassung der aktuellen Messwerte mit 200 Hz Sample-Rate
•
•
1 Bit Arbitrary Address Capable
2.2.2 Funktionsbezogenen Teile
Die funktionsbezogenen Teile sind konfigurierbar.
•
3 Bit Industrial Group (z.B. Global, Marine, Agriculture, ...)
•
7 Bit Vehicle System (Abhängig von Industrial Group: Tractor, trailer, …)
•
4 Bit Vehicle System Instance (Laufende Nummer für gleichartige Systeme)
•
8 Bit Function (abh. von Industrial Group: z.B. System Display, Leveling System,…)
•
5 Bit Function Instance (Laufende Nummer für gleichartige Funktionen)
•
3 Bit ECU-Instance (Laufende Nummer für Controller mit der gleichen Funktion)
Stand: 25.07.2017

Protokoll-Beschreibung SAE J1939 HIT 1000 / 1500 5
•
11 Bit Manufacturer Code
•
21 Bit Idendity
Die herstellerbezogenen Teile sind fest hinterlegt. Dadurch ist gewährleistet, dass die
Adresse weltweit eindeutig ist.
2.3 Adresse

1 Introduction
Protocol Description SAE J1939 HIT 1000 / 1500
1.1 Function
•
Recording of the current measured values with 200 Hz sample rate
•
Inclination calculation based on the acceleration components on 3 spatial axes with low pass function for HIT 1000 and HIT 1500 ( statical inclination measurement )
•
Inclination calculation based by the fusion of acceleration components and turn rate components for HIT 1500 ( motion compensated inclination measurement, highly dynamic )
•
Conversion of the inclination values into Euler angle (unit °, single or double axis)
•
Sending the current process value: o Cyclically, within the range from 5 milliseconds to 1 minute o On
1.2 Interface function
HIT has a CAN 2.0 B interface and can be operated according to the process defined in the standards SAE-J1939. The interface functions are divided into 3 parts:
•
Address
•
Configuration
•
Sending of measured values
2.1 Overview
Each HIT has a name and an address. Both can be configured by the user. The name of the
HIT is a 64 bit value and is clearly recognisable worldwide, the address is a 8 bit value which must be clearly recognisable at the bus. This means, it is not allowed to have two devices with the same address connected to the same bus.
During Address Claiming the HIT communicates its address and name to the other bus participants. This is a reaction to eventual address conflicts.
2.2 Name
The name consists of the following sections:
2.2.1 Addressing ability
•
1 Bit Arbitrary Address Capable
2.2.2 Function specific sections
The function specific sections are configurable.
•
3 Bit Industrial Group (i.e. Global, Marine, Agriculture, ...)
•
7 Bit Vehicle System (depends on Industrial Group: Tractor, trailer, …)
•
4 Bit Vehicle System Instance (sequence number for systems of the same kind)
•
8 Bit Function (depending on Industrial Group: i.e. System Display, Levelling System, …)
•
5 Bit Function Instance (sequence number for functions of the same kind)
•
3 Bit ECU-Instance (sequence number for controllers having the same function)
Edition: 2017-07-25 HYDAC ELECTRONIC GMBH Part No.: 669996

2.2.3 Manufacturer specific sections
•
11 Bit Manufacturer Code
•
21 Bit Idendity
The manufacturer specific sections are firmly defined. This ensures a worldwide clear address identification.
2.3 Address
The address can be set between 0 and 253. The address 254 is reserved for the status "no address assigned", the value 255 is used as broadcast address.
In each message the HIT sends, the address is assigned to the lowest 8 bits of the message ID.
2.4 Start-up process
After each start-up, the HIT sends an "Address Claimed" message. Thus, it communicates its address and its name to the other participants. This message can also be requested by other participants using a "request" message.
If an other participant sends an "Address Claimed" message using the same address, the reaction of the HIT depends on the name of the other participant.
If the HIT has a lower address, it again sends an "Address Claimed" message. If the HIT sends a higher address, it sends a "Cannot Claim" message and will then no more be available. It must be briefly disconnected from the supply voltage.
After sending an "Address Claimed" message, it takes 250 ms until the HIT takes up its regular operation mode. This is one of the requirements of SAE-J1939 to give other devices having the same address enough time to respond.
HIT is a "Service Configurable Device". This means, the address is adjustable, but it cannot be assigned a new address in normal bus mode. Going through a configuration process, HIT must be assigned a clearly defined address for its later bus, before it is getting connected to the bus for normal operation. The configuration process is described in the later chapter.
If 3 devices having the same address are connected to the bus, two of them will send a "Cannot Claim" message which is sent out at the same time in the worst case. This can lead to a bus error. For this reason, the user must make sure that the address at the bus is clearly defined.

3 Configuration
Protocol Description SAE J1939 HIT 1000 / 1500
3.1 Overview
The HIT has different settings which can be read and written by a master using SAE-J1939 messages. This is carried out by means of a so-called proprietary parameter group A with the PGN 61184 (0x00EF00). The data of the messages then contain information on which settings must be read or written and on the values themselves as well.
3.2 Possible settings
All settings are managed in an object list OL (similar to CANopen). All configuration objects have an index, by means of which they can be addressed individually. In the following table, all the settings with their corresponding index are listed. Some settings are readable only
(ro = read only), others are writable as well (rw = read write).
The design of the conficuration message is described in chapter 3.5The design of the conficuration message is PGN 61184 (0x00EF00) ..
Index r/w dc ack Value
(Byte 1) (Byte 2) (Byte 3) (Byte 4) (Byte 5) (Byte 6) (Byte 7) (Byte 8)
The data type defines the width of data in the value range (bytes 5 .. 8) of the message. In a uint16 value for example, only the two first bytes (byte 5 and byte 6) of the value range of the configuration message are used and interpreted as unsigned 16 bit integer value.

3.3.7 Send measured data
3.3.7.1 Send measured data cyclically
The device cyclically sends its measured data by means of the PGN set in the user set-up
(see index 22-24, 32-34, 42-44 and 52-54).
• If Transmission Rate (Index 21, 31, 41, 51) is one value higher than 0, this PG is sent
•
• cyclically. The transmission rate is indicated in [ms].
The Data page bit is always 0.
The values 0xFFFF and 0xFFFE are reserved for SAE J1939. This means, the measured value at the lower measuring range limit must be greater than or equal to 0 and the value at the upper measuring range limit must be lower than or equal to
4294967293. If the value 0xFFFE is sent, it means "Error" according to SAE J1939 and the device modus and the device status will be set accordingly.
3.3.7.2 Send measured data on request
The device sends its measured data when requesting the PG via a request message (PGN
59904 (0x00EA00)) by means of the PGN set in the user set-up (see index 22-24, 32-34,
42-44 and 52-54).
•
•
If Transmission Rate (Index 21, 31, 41, 51) is 0, this PG is sent exclusively on request.
The Data page bit is always 0.

3.3.8.4 Device mode and device status
The device mode and the device status display the status of the device. Both indications are
24 bits long. The first byte contains the device mode, the following two bytes contain the device status. In the device status, each bit has a particular meaning.
The following table indicates which errors lead to which mode and which value corresponds to which device status. In case of multiple errors, the status will result from an or-operation of the error values.

No active error present, device is ready for operation
No active fault is present, however the device is currently not operational. Individual device functions may have been switched off or the device is in a startup phase, etc.
A minor fault has recently occurred. As soon as the error has been rectified, the device will work again.
A moderate fault has occurred. The error may possibly be eliminated by switching the device
On/Off.
A serious error is present; the unit must be sent in to the manufacturer.
The device is in bootloader mode and does not carry out any other operations.

3.4 Carry out configuration
Before the settings can be changed the HIT must be set to its editing mode. The changed settings must then be stored and a restart must be carried out. Please see chapter "commands" below.
To read and write the settings, the master sends a message with the PGN 61184
(0x00EF00) to the HIT's address. The HIT responds by the same PGN and sends an acknowledge code. In case of reading requests the requested data are written into the value range of the response.

4 Commands
4.1 Start editing mode
Before the settings are written, the master must set the HIT to an editing mode. This is carried out by writing the string "edit" into the Index 101. In the editing mode, HIT only reacts to configuration commands. The editing mode can only be finished by restart. Before restart, the settings must be saved.

4.2 Edit Baud rate
The Baud rate is set via a Baud rate index. The parameter is located on index 2 of the OD.
A new Baud rate will not be saved before the Baud rate index has been changed, saved and the device has been restarted.
4.3 Saving the settings
The changed settings will not automatically become persistent, which means, they will not be stored permanently. For this purpose, an extra storage process must be carried out explicitely. This is carried out by writing the string "save" into the Index 102.

4.5 Restart
A restart is carried out by briefly disconnecting HIT from the power supply. A restart can also be carried out by writing the string "boot" into the index 104.
Depending on the configuration, HIT sends the current inclination, acceleration and gyro values via individual messages. The configuration was described in the previous chapter. In addition to being sent cyclically, the measured value can also be requested by means of a
"request" message, PGN 59904 (0x00EA00) at any time.
6 Miscellaneous
The Software Identification (Version number) can be requested by means of a "request" message on PGN 65242 (0x00FEDA).
