Requirements to Perform These Procedures
The laser imager must be installed by qualified service personnel.
It is recommended that the installer has the following skills to successfully
perform the installation:

Completing the Uncrating
1. Remove the side panels of the crate.
Foil bag
2. With scissors, cut the foil bag all around the base of the imager.
3. Remove the foil bag.

4. Use the Hex wrench to remove the two bolts from the bracket.
5. Lift the bracket up slightly and remove it.
6. Repeat Step 4 and Step 5 for the other brackets.

CAUTION:
The imager is 70 kg (155 lb).

7. Using safe lifting techniques, lift the imager from the shipping pallet
at the locations shown above.
Checking the Accessories
Check that the following items are included with the crate:
1. A bag containing electrical accessories:
• Three power cords
• Network cable
2. Boxes containing three charcoal filters.
3. A box containing a 10 in. film tray.
4. A box containing a 14 in. film tray.

Moving the Imager
IMPORTANT: You will need a wheeled-cart capable of supporting the
weight of the imager.
1. Move the imager and accessories to the location where the imager
will be installed.
2. Position the imager temporarily so there is a space of at least 1 m
(39 in.) at the back of the imager for installation of the power cord
and network cable.

8. Use the adjustable wrench to turn the 2 hex nuts on the back of the
optics assembly from the upper position to the lower (operating)
position as shown.
9. Set the back panel in place and install the 10 screws.
10. Lift the hood.
11. Install the left and right panels.

12. Pull the front panel forward.
13. Use the adjustable wrench to turn the front hex nut from the upper
position to the lower (operating) position.

Completing the Installation
AC power

1. Open the package of electrical accessories you removed previously.
2. Select the correct power cord for your AC power outlets:
• 7E9349 - for North American installations
• 7F6848 - for European installations
• 7F3990 - for Chinese installations
If your imager is located outside the areas listed above, you may be
able to use one of these power cords if the plug matches the power
outlets in your building.
If you cannot use any of the power cords provided, you must obtain a
suitable power cord locally. You must use an agency-approved power
cord with a plug type suitable for your location.
3. Connect the power cord to the AC power connector on the imager.
4. Connect the power cord to the wall AC power outlet.

5. Press the power switch to the ON (|) position.
The logo appears on the local panel during startup. Wait for the
startup to complete. The startup sequence takes approximately
3 minutes to complete.
NOTE: If the imager does not start up, contact your service representative.
6. Install the two film trays.
NOTE: Do not install film or the film savers at this time.
7. From a laptop computer, select Start&gt;Settings&gt;Network
Connections.
NOTE: Depending on your operating system, this could be Start &gt;
Settings &gt; Network and Dial-up Connections.
8. Right-click on Local Area Connection.
9. Select Properties.
10. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
11. Click Properties.
IMPORTANT: Remember or write down your current settings, as you will
have to reset your laptop to these settings near the end of
the installation.

12. Select the Radio button next to Use the following IP Address.
13. Type:
• IP Address: 123.123.123.1
• Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
14. Click OK.

15. Using a crossover cable, connect the laptop computer to the network
port on the imager.
16. Start MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER.
17. In the Address field, type: 123.123.123.123
18. Click Go.
The main window for the Web Portal appears.

19. From the drop-down box in the upper middle of the window, select
your language.

20. Click Log On.
The following window appears.
21. Type:
• User ID: LocalService
• Password: DV5800
Note: These are the system defaults.The password is the same for the
5800 and 5850 Laser Imagers.
22. Click Login.
23. From the main window, select Configuration &gt;
Installation Assistant.
The Installation Assistant Instruction window appears.
24. To begin, click the forward arrow at the bottom of the window.
The following window appears.
25. Click Modify.

IMPORTANT: The System Clock is set in the factory. At installation, the
Time Zone has to be reset if the laser imager is installed in
some other Time Zone. When you reset the Time Zone
value, the Time and Date display correctly.

30. Will the clock be set manually or do you use a time server for
sychronization?

33. Click Save.
34. Click the forward arrow twice to return to the main window.
35. Select Utilities &gt; Session &gt; Restart.
36. Click Restart.
Wait for the imager to restart. The imager requires approximately 30
minutes to warm up. After completing the warm up cycle, the imager
will print a test film followed by a calibration film. While the imager
is warming up, continue with Step 37.
37. Disconnect the crossover cable from the imager and the laptop
computer.
Network connection
38. Connect the network cable to the network connector on the imager.
39. Connect the other end of the network cable to the nearest network
connector.

40. Press the film tray unlock buttons on the local panel.
41. Remove the film trays.
NOTE: Before loading a new package of film, clean any particles from the
inside surface of the film tray, including the ramp and top edge of
the tray.

42. Pull the diverter (plastic bar) and bag holder (silver bar) into the up
position.
43. Press the new film package down in the tray with the label facing up.
44. Pull the front flap of the film package forward and place it under the
diverter (1).
45. Set the back end of the film package under the bag holder (2).
46. Press down firmly using both hands so the film package sits flat
against the bottom of the tray.

47. Swing the bag holder of the film tray back in place.
Tear strip
48. Remove the tear strip from the plastic bag.
49. Swing the diverter of the film tray back in place.
IMPORTANT:
Do not install the Film Saver onto the film tray.
50. Slide the tray back into the imager slot.

Plastic bag
51. To remove the plastic bag so the imager can access the film, pull the
plastic bag tail firmly and smoothly. The entire film bag will slide
out.
52. After the imager has completed the warm-up cycle, send a test print
from each modality that will print to the imager.
53. Check the quality of each image. If the quality is not acceptable,
contact your service representative.
IMPORTANT: You must reset the network settings for your laptop
computer to their settings before you did Step 12 of this
procedure.
54. Connect your laptop computer to your network.
55. On your laptop computer, start MICROSOFT INTERNET
EXPLORER.
56. In the Address field, type: http://&lt;IP address&gt;
Note: &lt;IP address&gt; is the IP address of the imager.
57. Click Go.
The main window for the Web Portal appears.

58. Click the Log On icon.
The User Login window appears.
59. Enter your User ID and password for a level 3 user.
60. Click Login.
The items on the left side of the display will differ according to your
level of access.
61. Select Utilities &gt; Backup/Restore.
62. To make a backup of the configuration parameters to the hard drive of
the imager, click Backup.
63. To download the a copy of the backup data to your laptop computer:
a. Click Download Backup.
b. Select a destination on your laptop computer to save the file.
c. Click Save to place the backup file in the selected destination.
64. Log off from the Web Portal.
Discarding Excess Material
When you have completed all installation steps and the imager is
operational, discard all excess materials (shipping crate, extra power cords,
etc.) in a manner suitable to local ordinances.
