Operating keyboard macros
Macros are used to pre-record tasks that you perform frequently. Macros can be operated using a very small number of keystrokes, and may, therefore, greatly reduce the number of keystrokes required to perform a certain task.
For information on keyboard macros, please refer to the "Advanced Features 2011" manual.
Using the calculators
Sage Handisoft provides two handy calculators:
General calculator, which works in the same manner as a standard calculator. It is available in all Sage Handisoft products.
Tax calculator, which allows you to calculate the tax for an individual, and the number of days between two dates.
To access the General Calculator
You can access the general calculator tool directly from within HandiTax 2016. Either:
Press CTRL+F7, or
From the Tools menu, click Calculator.

Real-time estimates
A very handy feature in HandiTax 2016 is the display of real-time estimates in the Status Bar at the foot of all tax return forms. You can select two values to display, and they are updated automatically as you edit the form. The values you can select depend on the form you have open.
For example, if you are editing an I form, you could have a running total of the Taxable Income
(Tax Inc) and Estimated Tax (Estimate) continuously displayed in the Status Bar.
Note: The values will not be displayed on the Status Bar if the “Return Information” window is enabled. See Enabling and disabling the “Return Information” window in Chapter 5, “Preparing a tax form”.
Setting the display
You can select the values to be continuously displayed on the Status Bar of the Tax Form windows.
1. To select the values, double-click on the status bar of the Tax Form Window. The "Select values for display" window will open.

2. In the Value Name fields, select the values you want displayed.
3. Click OK.
HandiTax 2016 will display the chosen values in the Status Bar.
SMS messaging
If you have purchased the Sage Handisoft Notify module, you can send SMS messages to your clients.
To send an SMS message, click the SMS button or, from the Tools menu, point to SMS
Message and click Send SMS Message. The “SMS Message” window will open.
For more information, see the “Sage Handisoft 2016 Advanced Features” manual.
