How to prepare a Business Activity Statement (BAS) form using HandiTax 2016?

To prepare a Business Activity Statement (BAS) form in HandiTax 2016, you first need to attach the relevant form type (Form GA for monthly/quarterly or Form GR for annual) to a specific client in the client database. Once the form is attached, you can populate it using several methods:

  • Import from HandiLedger: If your client's financial data is in HandiLedger 2016, you can prepare the BAS there and then transfer the information directly into HandiTax 2016.
  • Import from Sage One: You can configure HandiTax 2016 to access and import their BAS information directly from Sage One accounting software. This requires setting up access to your Sage One login information within HandiTax 2016.
  • Generate from Activity Statement Summary reports: You can also generate BAS forms from details contained in the monthly Activity Statement Summary Report (OM report) provided by the ATO. This is done through the Report Navigator within HandiTax 2016.

After preparing the form, it is your responsibility to check the contents for accuracy before lodging it with the ATO.

What is the purpose of the sequence number when working with BAS/IAS forms?

When selecting a BAS or IAS form, the system will prompt you to change the sequence number if the Period Start and Period End dates do not coincide with the Sequence number. This ensures record consistency.
