Network Setup
Network Settings
This section assumes a system using XP on a Gig-E network, and that the following have already been performed: LanaCFG, set lana 0 for WINS TCP/IP on the automation NICs for all Clients and Device Servers, and that valid IP addresses and a valid Subnet are set. Make substitutions as needed for parts where your setup differs from those described in this document.
1. (If changing your network to Gig-E all TCP/IP) Open Network Connections menu, rightclick automation NIC and choose Properties.
2. Highlight TCP/IP and choose Properties…
3. Select the Advanced tab.
• Speed & Duplex settings – (Press the Advanced button) Set ALL NICs and all ports on the Switch to 1000/Full Duplex. All ports and all NICs must match, or problems will occur.
**NOTE – if any NICs DO NOT display an option for 1000/Full, then set all NICs and all
Switch ports to “Auto”**
Recommended NIC is Intel-Pro 1000. Avoid consumer-grade NICs and switches.

• Name it “TCPAckFrequency”
• Right click it, and choose Modify.
Network Setup
• Make the Value Data = 1, and choose Hexadecimal, then OK. You must restart the
PC afterwards. This needs to be done on all Clients and on the Device Server.
Windows XP (and Server 2003)
Considerations
Check to ensure that the following XP/Server 2003 Default Settings are corrected.
Internet Time setting
Make sure this is disabled on all XP and Server 2003 boxes. Go to Start/Control Panel/Date,
Time, Language and Regional Options, then choose the Internet Time tab. Uncheck the
“Automatically Sync…” option.

Clients
Network Setup
Do NOT use old versions. Do NOT use old INIs. Reboot after installing so old Windows
Registry DLL associations are refreshed.
Air Client – Do NOT use older Air Clients. v3.14.7 is the lowest you should go.
Datagram size and DLLs have been changed and problems (such as increased likelihood of Transmission List corruption) may arise from using mismatched older versions with the newer DS software. Do not copy INIs from non-version 3 Air Clients.
Media Client – Do NOT use older Media Clients. v3.10 is the lowest you should go.
DLLs have changed significantly which result in significantly improved performance.
Using older Media Clients will cause a loss of these improvements, and result in application crashes. Do NOT copy Media Client INIs, as this may introduce conflicting features that will cause significantly bad performance.
With your new MC INIs make sure these settings are changed from default, back to what you need…
SQL
Ensure the ASSEG 32-char fix steps (BELOW) are followed BEFORE you start using Media
Client. This needs to be done when all clients are down.
Steps to resolve Legacy 16-character title in Multi-Segment…

Installation, Configuration, and Operations Reference Network Setup
1. In Enterprise Manager on MAIN-FS Expand Tree (as shown below) and navigate to
ASDB, then click on “Tables”
2. Then, choose ASSEG (in Right-side pane).
3. Right Click on ASSEG and Choose “Design Table”
4. Within Design Table Window, select the Title Length entry, and correct it to read “32”
5. CLOSE all open Air Clients and Media Clients (all things with a SQL DB connection to
File Server BEFORE you click on SAVE) SAVE changes by clicking the Disk icon.
6. Relaunch all clients.
INIs
DEVICE SERVER – v9 INIs can be used on the newer DS versions, but you will need to send them to Tech Support for analysis and possible adjustments
AIR CLIENT – Avoid copying non-v3 INIs to a v3 Air Client
MEDIA CLIENT – Never copy any pre-v3.10 Media Client INIs to v3.10

IMPORTANT Device Server Configuration
Tweaks…
AO Logic
It is important that BOTH AO checkboxes be set. This will return Hard Start Logic functionality to “v9-style” behavior. This is most important at call-letter net affiliate type stations…
AP Logic
There are two changes here…
v11 registers events across Air and Protect differently
The following config adjustments help this function better. Make sure that Disk Port
Comm timeout values are high NONE LOWER THAN 30, and that on a Protect port they are higher than on the Air Side. (As shown above) Do this for all A/P pairs.

Only Swap one Event in A-P…
Checking this box will return to v9-like AP behavior. The new logic swaps the entire column when the AP button is hit, or a failure is sensed. Many customers prefer the new logic, this is a user-preference item.
Cue With Data Settings
Review Port: Review Ports on Media Lists will not allow for Shuttling, or Cue to, or Goto commands unless this setting is checked. This should ONLY be done on Review Ports
(not to on-air ports), unless otherwise recommended by the vendor.

Play to Air ports (Cue with Data): Make sure the new “Segment Play Search Path” parameters are set. These may default to all blank, and will cause problems if they are all left as “Invalid”
