Improper care or use of your blood pressure monitor may result in injury, damage to the unit or ineffective treatment. Following these instructions will ensure the blood pressure monitor’s ef fi cacy and long life.

GENERAL CAUTIONS AND WARNINGS

• Measurement results should be discussed with your physician or healthcare professional; never self-diagnose or attempt treatment as this may be dangerous

• Intended for adult use only; this device is not approved for infant or child use

• Keep out of reach of children

• Do not use the unit if it has any damaged parts (including power cord or plug and cuff), if it has been submersed in water or dropped

• If any abnormality occurs, discontinue use until the unit has been examined and repaired

• Only use included attachments and parts; do not use attachments from other brands or models as these may not be properly calibrated for use with this device and may result in measurement error

• Check the blood circulation of the user before measurement

• Do not disassemble the unit or attempt to repair it; substitution of a component different from that supplied may result in measurement error and will void manufacturer warranty

• Always follow local regulations for proper disposal of the monitor, cuff and batteries

OPERATING CAUTIONS AND WARNINGS

• Prolonged overin fl ation may cause congestion, swelling or bruising in some people

• Do not use this device with other diagonstic monitoring equipment

• Do not share this device with infected persons where there may be a risk of crosscontamination

• Consult with your physician before use if any of the following conditions are present: arrhythmia, in fl ammatory diseases, intravascular therapy, arterio-venous shunts or if a mastectomy has been performed.

• If you experience any discomfort or an abnormality occurs, stop using the device immediately; to stop the device during operation, press the START/STOP button and the cuff will automatically de fl ate

INTRODUCTION

It is recommended that you fi rst seek the advice and recommendation of your physician or healthcare professional when using home diagnostic devices, including blood pressure monitors.

Automatic digital blood pressure monitors use the oscillometric method to electronically measure your blood pressure. The monitor detects your blood’s movement through the artery in your arm and converts the movements into a digital reading. The oscillometric method does not require a stethoscope, making the monitor ideal for home use.

Blood pressure readings determined with this device are equivalent to measurements obtained by a trained healthcare professional using the cuff/stethoscope auscultation method, within the limits prescribed by the American

National Standard for Electronic or Automated Sphygmomanometers.

GETTING STARTED

Before Taking a Measurement

1. Your readings should only be interpreted by your physician or healthcare professional with access to your individual medical history. Regular use of a home blood pressure monitor will allow you to track and record your readings for discussion with your physician.

2. Conduct your measurement in a quiet place while seated in a relaxed position.

Rest for 15 minutes before taking your reading. If an error occurs or you desire to take a second reading, allow 15 minutes between readings for your blood vessels to return to normal.

3. Avoid smoking, eating, taking medication, alcohol, physical activity or any other stressful activity for 30 minutes prior to taking a reading.

4. Always remove any jewelry or constrictive clothing that may interfere with the cuff placement.

5. Keep yourself and the monitor still during measuring; do not talk during the reading.

6. It is recommended that you take your readings as the same time each day to better monitor any indications in your results.

7. Record your daily measurement on the included chart or some other written document to share with your physician.

BATTERY INSTALATION

This unit comes complete with 2 AAA batteries.

2 It is necessary to replace the batteries when the Low Battery symbol appears on the display or when the display does not turn on after the START button is pressed.

1. Press down and lift the cover.

2. Insert or replace 2 AAA batteries into the battery compartment, ensuring to match the indicated polarity symbols.

Always use new batteries.

3. Replace the battery cover.

4. Dispose of batteries according to local disposal and recycling regulations.

It is recommended to remove the batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period of time.

SETTING DATE/TIME

IT IS NECESSARY TO SET THE DATE AND TIME FOR THE UNIT EVERY

TIME BATTERIES ARE INITIALLY INSTALLED OR REPLACED.

DATE AND TIME WILL DEFAULT TO FACTORY SETTINGS, 12:00 A.M. /

1(M)-1(D), IF YOU DO NOT CHOOSE TO SET THE CORRECT DATA.

The date/time feature is on the bottom left of the display screen, Fig 1. The date and time will alternate every four seconds regardless of the operating mode.

1. When the unit is off, press and hold the START and

MEM button at the same time. The unit will beep once and the month will begin to fl ash, Fig. 2.

2. Press the MEM button to change until the desired number appears. To scroll through the numbers quicker, hold down the MEM button as the numbers advance.

3. Press the START button to con fi rm the month entry.

4. Next, the date will blink. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to set the date, then hours, then minutes. This unit does not track the year.

5. After setting the minutes, the unit will automatically exit out of the date/time setting mode.

When the monitor is off, the date and time will still appear on the display.

APPLYING YOUR CUFF

PROPER CUFF FIT AND PLACEMENT IS CRITICAL IN OBTAINING

ACCURATE BLOOD PRESSURE MEASUREMENTS. PLEASE READ THESE

INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY AND CONSIDER CONSULTING WITH YOUR

PHYSICIAN FOR FURTHER DIRECTION.

Before applying your blood pressure cuff, be sure your wrist is within the appropriate cuff range: Wrist Circumference

Range Suitable for 5-1/2” – 7-5/8” (14 – 19.5 cm)

Reminder, it is important to avoid smoking, eating, taking medication, alcohol consumption or physical activity 30 minutes prior to taking a reading.

If for any reason you are unable to or should not use your left wrist, please modify the instructions for cuff application to your right wrist. Your physician can help you identify which wrist is best for you to take measurements from.

1. Remove any constrictive clothing or jewelry that may interfere with cuff placement.

2. Be seated at a table or desk with your feet fl at on the fl oor and your legs uncrossed.

3. Hold your left arm in front of you with your palm facing upward.

4. Apply the preformed cuff to your left wrist so that the digital display face is positioned on the inside area of your wrist facing you, Fig. 1.

5. Adjust the cuff 1/4” - 1/2” from the edge of the head of the ulna bone, Fig. 2.

6. The cuff should fi t comfortably, yet snugly around your wrist.

If you are not comfortable with applying your cuff, please seek the assistance of another member of your household or work with your physician to practice the cuff application. Incorrectly applied cuffs may result in inaccurate readings.

TAKING YOUR MEASUREMENTS

Please read the preceding portions of this manual prior to taking your fi rst reading.

Reminder, it is important to avoid smoking, eating, taking medication, alcohol consumption or physical activity 30 minutes prior to taking a reading.

1. Rest your elbow on a solid surface with your palm facing upward. Elevate your arm so that the cuff is at the same level as your heart, Fig 1. Be certain that cuff is elevated to the proper level; you may choose to support your hand with a folded towel or book.

Relax your left hand.

2. Press the START button to turn the unit on; the unit will run a self-test, Fig 2.

3. The display will brie fl y show a fl ashing arrow and ‘0’ before the measurement begins, Fig 3.

4. The cuff will automatically in fl ate to approximately

190mmHg or 40 mmHg higher than the last systolic pressure reading stored in memory.

5. When the in fl ation has reached optimum level, the display will begin to show the decreasing pressure while you feel the pressure of the cuff decrease.

TAKING YOUR MEASUREMENTS

6. When the measurement is complete, your blood pressure measurement and pulse will display separately on the screen alternating repeatedly every

2-3 seconds, Fig 4. The systolic and diastolic readings will display at the same time.

7. The Hypertension Indicator will indicate your reading range in the right side of the display, Fig 5. See page

14 for a chart interpreting the Hypertension Indicator results.

8. If an irregular heartbeat was detected during the reading, the Irregular Heartbeat Detector icon will appear fl ashing on the display for both the measurement results and pulse results screens, Fig 6.

See page 13 for more information on the Irregular

Heartbeat Detector feature.

9. The reading will automatically be stored in memory, up to 60 readings.

10.Select START to turn the unit off and conserve energy and battery life. The unit will automatically shut-off and revert to time/date mode after approximately 1 minute.

INTERPRETING YOUR RESULTS

Irregular Heartbeat Detector

An irregular heartbeat is de fi ned as a heartbeat rhythm that is more than 25% slower or 25% faster than the average measurement detected while the monitor is conducting the measurement. When this device detects an irregular rhythm two or more times during the reading, the IHB icon will appear on the display screen.

This monitor will operate if the icon appears, but the results may be compromised, especially if this symbol appears often. Please consult with your physician or trained healthcare professional for further information regarding an irregular heartbeat and if this symbol appears frequently.

INTERPRETING YOUR RESULTS

Hypertension Indicator

This unit features our unique Hypertension Indicator. The World Health

Organization has established globally accepted standards for the assessment of high or low blood pressure readings

This chart can help you identify where a given blood pressure measurement falls according to World Health Organization standards. This chart should only be considered as a guideline; always consult with your physician to interpret your individual results. Never adjust your medication(s) dosage, or severely alter your diet or exercise routine without consulting with your physician.

MEMORY FUNCTIONS

Recalling Measurements in Memory

You can recall up to 60 total measurements in memory. These measurements can be shared with your physician or trained healthcare professional.

1. Press and release the MEM button. The unit will show how many measurements are stored within the bank, Fig 1.

2. Press the MEM button again to scroll through the saved measurements. Measurements will appear on the display from oldest to most current.

All results for a given measurement will display, including measurement results, pulse rate, Hypertension Indicator,

Irregular Heartbeat alert (if applicable), and date/time stamp, Fig 2. The measurement results and pulse results will alternate, fl ashing between measurement and pulse every

2-3 seconds.

3. When the number of readings exceeds 60, the oldest data will be replaced with the new record.

4. Press START to turn the monitor OFF at any time during review of the stored measurements.

Clearing Measurements from Memory

1. Press and release the MEM button. The unit will display how many measurements are stored within the bank.

2. Press and hold down the MEM button until four horizontal lines fl ash, Fig. 3. This indicates that all measurements have been erased.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Proper care and maintenance of your blood pressure monitor will help ensure long life for the product; improper use of the monitor may void the included warranty.

Always disconnect the cuff and tubing from the monitor prior to cleaning and storage.

• Do not use any liquids on the monitor; use a soft, dry cloth to clean the monitor as needed

• Storage outside of stated storage temperature may result in measurement error or device malfunction; storage environment temperature is: -4°F – 131°F (-20°C –

55°C); Humidity: ≤ 90% RH

• Avoid high temperatures and direct sunlight

• Always keep the unit unplugged while not in use; remove the batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period of time

• Do not attempt to disassemble your monitor; disassembling your monitor may void the manufacturers warranty

• Do not subject the monitor to strong shocks; take care not to drop the monitor

• With proper care, the monitor will maintain performance for a minimum of 10,000 measurements or three years

• No components of this device can be maintained by the user; the circut diagrams, component part list, descriptions, calibration instruction or other information which will assist the user’s appropriately quali fi ed technical personnel to repair those parts of equipment which are designated repairable can be supplied

• It is recommended that monitor performance be reviewed every two years or after service or repair; please contact your service provider or call Customer Care

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Cuff Care and Maintenance

• The cuff should not be submerged or washed in a washing machine, but may be spot cleaned with a mild-detergent as needed

• To disinfect the cuff, wipe the inside (skin contact side) of the cuff using a soft cloth slightly moistened with 75-90% ethyl rubbing alcohol and allow to air dry; it is suggested to disinfect the cuff frequently when used in clinical settings or if the cuff is contaminated in any way

• Never attempt to iron or dry the cuff; if the cuff becomes wet, allow the cuff to air dry completely before use or storage

• Do not attempt to remove the tube and bladder from the nylon cuff as this may damage the cuff

• Take care not to forcefully bend or kink the tubing during storage

Congratulations on your purchase of a Digital Blood Pressure Monitor. Your Digital Blood Pressure Monitor is covered by the following limited warranty commencing upon the date of purchase, and subject to the following terms and conditions:

The Warrantor warrants that its Digital Blood Pressure Monitor will be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal consumer usage for a period of one year for the original purchaser of the product.

Periodic maintenance, repair and replacement of parts due to normal wear and tear are excluded from coverage. Defects or damage that result from: (a) improper operation, storage, misuse or abuse, accident or neglect, such as physical damage

(cracks, scratches, etc.) to the surface of the product resulting from misuse; (b) contact with liquid, water, rain, extreme humidity or heavy perspiration, sand, dirt or the like, extreme heat, or food; (c) use of the Digital Blood Pressure Monitor for commercial purposes or subjecting the Digital Blood Pressure Monitor to abnormal usage or conditions; or (d) other acts which are not the fault of the Warrantor, are excluded from coverage. This warranty does not cover batteries or other power sources that may be provided with, or used with the Digital Blood Pressure Monitor.

If the Digital Blood Pressure Monitor fails to conform to this limited warranty, return the Digital Blood Pressure Monitor to:

Attn: Repair Department, 1175 Lakeside Drive, Gurnee, IL, 60031. When returning a product, please also include: (i) a copy of your receipt, bill of sale or other comparable proof of purchase; (ii) a written description of the problem; and (iii) your name, address and telephone number. Carefully package the product to avoid any damage that may occur while in transit; shipping insurance with returned receipt is recommended. At our option, the Warrantor will repair or replace the unit found to be defective in materials or workmanship under normal consumer usage. INTRODUCCIÓN

Se recomienda que usted primero busca el consejo y la recomendación de su médico o profesional de cuidados médicos cuando utilice dispositivos de diagnóstico en el hogar, incluidos monitores de presión arterial.

Los monitores automáticos digitales de presión arterial emplean el método oscilométrico para medir la presión arterial electrónicamente. El monitor detecta el movimiento de la sangre por la arteria de su brazo y convierte dichos movimientos en una lectura digital. El método oscilométrico no requiere de un estetoscopio; con lo cual, el equipo resulta ideal para uso doméstico

Las lecturas de la presión arterial determinadas con este dispositivo son equivalentes a las mediciones obtenidas por un profesional de cuidados médicos capacitado mediante el método de auscultación con brazalete/estetoscopio, dentro de los límites prescritos por la norma nacional estadounidense para es fi gmomanómetros electrónicos o automatizados (American National Standard for Electronic or automated Sphygmomanometers).

CÓMO COMENZAR

Antes de tomarse la presión

1. Sus lecturas sólo deben ser interpretadas por su médico o profesional de cuidados médicos con acceso a su historia clínica individual. El uso periódico de un monitor en el hogar le permitirá rastrear y registrar sus lecturas para comentarlas con su médico.

2. Tómese la presión en un lugar tranquilo y sentado en una posición relajada.

Descanse durante 15 minutos antes de tomarse la presión. Si se produce un error o si desea tomar una segunda lectura, deje transcurrir 15 minutos entre lecturas para que sus vasos sanguíneos se normalicen.

3. Evite fumar, comer, tomar medicación, beber alcohol, hacer actividad física o cualquier otra actividad estresante 30 minutos antes de tomarse la presión.

4. Quítese siempre las joyas o indumentaria apretada que pudiere interferir en la colocación del brazalete.

5. Manténgase quieto usted y el monitor durante la medición; no hable durante la lectura.

6. Se recomienda tomarse la presión a la misma hora todos los días para controlar mejor las indicaciones en sus resultados.

7. Registre su medición diaria en la planilla que se incluye o en algún otro documento escrito para compartirla con su médico.

AJUSTE DE FECHA Y HORA

ES NECESARIO AJUSTAR LA FECHA Y HORA DE LA UNIDAD CUANDO SE

COLOCAN LAS BATERÍAS POR PRIMERA VEZ O CADA VEZ QUE SE LAS

REEMPLAZA.

SI USTED NO ELIJE AJUSTAR LA INFORMACIÓN CORRECTA, LA FECHA Y LA

HORA INDICADA, 12:00 A.M. / 1(M)-1(D), SERÁN LAS DETERMINADAS

POR DEFECTO POR EL FABRICANTE.

La función de fecha/hora se encuentra en la parte inferior izquierda del visor, Fig 1. La fecha y la hora alternarán cada cuatro segundos, independientemente del modo de funcionamiento.

1. Con la unidad apagada, pulse y sostenga simultáneamente los botones START (de inicio) y MEM (de memoria). Comenzará a titilar el mes, Fig. 2.

2. Pulse el botón MEM para cambiar el número hasta que se visualice el número deseado. Si desea que los números pasen más rápido, mantenga pulsado el botón MEM mientras avanzan los números.

3. Pulse el botón START para con fi rmar el ingreso del mes.

4. A continuación, titilará la fecha. Repita los pasos 2 y 3 para ajustar la fecha, después las horas, luego los minutos. Esta unidad no registra el año.

5. Una vez ajustados los minutos, la unidad saldrá automáticamente del modo de ajuste de fecha/hora.

Antes de colocarse el brazalete de presión arterial, asegúrese de que la muñeca esté dentro del rango de brazalete correspondiente.

Rango de circunferencia de muñeca adecuado para: 5-1/2” – 7-

5/8” (14 – 19.5 cm)

Recuerde: es importante evitar fumar, comer, tomar medicación, beber alcohol o realizar actividad física 30 minutos antes de tomarse la presión.

Si, por cualquier motivo, usted no puede o no debe usar la muñeca izquierda, modi fi que las instrucciones para colocación del brazalete en la muñeca derecha. Su médico puede ayudarlo a identi fi car la muñeca que le resulte mejor para tomarse la presión.

1. Quítese cualquier indumentaria apretada o joya que pudiere interferir con la colocación del brazalete.

2. Permanezca sentado a una mesa o escritorio, con los pies planos sobre el suelo y las piernas sin cruzar .

3. Sosténgase el brazo izquierdo frente a usted, con la palma hacia arriba.

4. Colóquese el brazalete preformado en la muñeca izquierda de manera tal que la cara del visor digital quede posicionada del lado interior de la muñeca, mirando hacia usted, Fig. 1.

5. Ajuste el brazalete 1/4” - 1/2” desde el borde de la cabeza del hueso cúbito,

6. El brazalete debe sentirse cómodo, aunque ajustado, alrededor de la muñeca.

Si no se siente cómodo al colocarse el brazalete, procure la ayuda de otro integrante de la familia o practique la colocación del brazalete con su médico. La colocación incorrecta del brazalete dará como resultado lecturas inexactas.

TOMANDO SUS MEDIDAS

Lea las partes precedentes de este manual antes de tomarse la presión arterial por primera vez.

Recuerde: es importante evitar fumar, comer, tomar medicación, beber alcohol o realizar actividad física 30 minutos antes de tomarse la presión.

1. El codo debe descansar en una super fi cie sólida, con la palma de la mano hacia arriba. Eleve el brazo de manera tal que el brazalete y el corazón se encuentren alineados, Fig. 1.

2. Pulse el botón de encendido ( START ) para encender la unidad, que ejecutará una prueba automática, Fig. 2.

3. El visor mostrará brevemente una fl echa titilante y el número ‘0’ antes de que comience la medición, Fig 3.

4. El brazalete se in fl ará automáticamente hasta alcanzar aproximadamente 190mmHg o 40 mmHg más que la

última lectura de presión sistólica almacenada en la memoria.

5. Cuando el proceso de in fl ado haya alcanzado su óptimo nivel, el visor comenzará a mostrar la presión disminuyendo y usted sentirá cómo disminuye la presión en el brazalete.

6. Cuando haya terminado de medir, la medición de su pulso y presión arterial se exhibirán por separado en el visor, alternándose varias veces cada 2 a 3 segundos,

8. Si se detectó un latido irregular durante la lectura, en el visor se presentará el detector de latidos irregulares,

9. Los resultados se almacenarán automáticamente en el banco de memoria hasta 60 lecturas.

10.Seleccione START para apagar la unidad y ahorrar energía y la vida útil de las baterías. La unidad se apagará automáticamente y volverá al modo de fecha/hora después de aproximadamente 1 minuto.

INTERPRETACIÓN DE LOS RESULTADOS

Detector de Ritmo Cardíaco Irregular

Un ritmo cardíaco irregular se de fi ne como un ritmo cardíaco 25% más lento o

25% más rápido que la medición promedio detectada mientras el monitor lleva a cabo la medición. Cuando este dispositivo detecta un ritmo cardíaco irregular en dos o más ocasiones durante la lectura, aparecerá el símbolo IHB en la pantalla.

Este monitor operará si aparece el icono, pero los resultados podrían verse afectados, especialmente si dicho símbolo aparece con mucha frecuencia. FUNCIÓN DE MEMORIA

Memorización de mediciones en la memoria

Usted puede memorizar un máximo de 60 mediciones total. Mediante el registro de presión arterial que se incluye, puede compartir esas lecturas con su médico o con un profesional de cuidados médicos capacitado.

1. Pulse y libere el botón MEM. La unidad mostrará la cantidad de mediciones almacenadas en el banco, Fig. 1.

2. Pulse nuevamente el botón MEM para desplazarse por las mediciones que están almacenadas. Aparecerán en el visor, desde la más antigua hasta la más reciente.

Se mostrarán todos los resultados de una medición determinada, incluyendo los resultados de la medición, frecuencia del pulso, Indicador de Hipertensión, alerta de

Latido Irregular (si corresponde), y fecha/hora, Fig 2. Los resultados de la medición y los resultados del pulso alternarán, titilando entre la medición y el pulso cada 2 a

3 segundos.

3. Cuando el número de lecturas exceda las 60, las más antiguas serán reemplazadas por el nuevo registro.

4. Oprima START para apagar el monitor en cualquier momento durante la revisión de las mediciones almacenadas.

El buen cuidado y mantenimiento de su medidor de presión ayudará a asegurar la larga vida útil del producto. El uso inadecuado del medidor puede invalidar la garantía incluida.

Siempre desconecte la manga del medidor antes de limpiarlo y almacenarlo.

• No use ningún líquido para limpiar el medidor. Use un paño suave y seco para limpiarlo según sea necesario.

• Almacenar el medidor a temperaturas de almacenamiento que excedan las establecidas puede ocasionar errores o mal funcionamiento. La temperatura de almacenamiento recomendada es: -4°F – 131°F (-20°C – 55°C); Humedad: ≤ 90% RH

• Evite las altas temperaturas y la luz solar directa

• Mantenga siempre la unidad desconectada cuando no esté en uso. Retire las baterías si no planea usar el medidor durante un lapso prolongado

• No trate de desarmar su medidor, ya que ello podría invalidar la garantía del fabricante.

• No someta el medidor a golpes fuertes y no lo deje caer.

• Con el cuidad apropiado, el monitor mantendrá el rendimiento para un mínimo de

CUIDADO Y MANTENIMIENTO DE LA MANGA

• No sumerja la manga ni la lave en lavadora. Limpie las manchas con un detergente suave según sea necesario.

• Para desinfectar el brazalete, limpie el interior (lado de contacto con la piel) del manguito con un paño suave ligeramente humedecido con 75-90% de acetato de alcohol y dejar secar al aire; se sugiere para desinfectar el manguito con frecuencia cuando se utiliza en entornos clínicos o si el manguito está contaminado en modo alguno

• No trate de planchar o secar la manga. Si se humedece, deje que se seque con el aire completamente antes de usarla o almacenarla.

• No trate de retirar el tubo y la bolsa de aire de la manga de nylon, ya que esto podría dañarla.

• Trate de no doblar el tubo de manera forzada ni torcerlo durante el almacenamiento.
