1.1
Functions offered
Experience shows that most failures in an automated system (about 90%) are first-level failures caused by sensors and actuators. These failures can easily be corrected by the operator, provided that their cause is known. This is the purpose of diagnostic
assistance software.
This manual describes the setup and use of PL7-3 diagnostic assistance software :
• DIAG, an option of the TXT L PL7 M37 V52E software which is designed for an operator dialogue environment.
This program monitors the application by means of optional function blocks which provide "diagnostic" functions. For further information, refer to the documentation on diagnostic OFBs (ref. TXT DM FBD V52E). The following services are available to the user :
• Error indication, in the form of alarms
• Availability of failure analysis functions :
- Display of the function block and the errors detected
- Display and real-time animation of the Literal statement or Ladder network being diagnosed
- Display of the extended comment associated with a mnemonic symbol
• Initialization of the OFBs, after correction of the errors.
The mnemonic symbols and associated comments are provided by the XTEL-SDBASE mnemonic symbol database.

Using the display screen
DIAG uses four standard zones to display information on the screen :
1
2
3
4
1 Alarm zone. The zone displays in real time the contents of the alarm zone generated by the ALARMS task : time of the alarm, D if the alarm was generated by a diagnostic
OFB, * if the alarm must be acknowledged, the mnemonic symbol and its associated comment, and the total number of active alarms. For example :
17:05:43 D * VALVE6 Incorrect flow Alarms = 15
2 Action bar. Each action is associated with an <Si> function key. These keys can be found on TSX CPX 27/37 process control terminals (with TSX PCM 27/37 module) or on T CCX 77FP operator terminals. On a standard keyboard, these actions are accessed by simultaneously pressing keys <Shift> and <Fi>.
3 Diagnostic information zone (equation diagnosed, optional function block, internal data, STATUS word, etc).
4

Using DIAG 2
____________________________________________________________________________
2.1
Configuring the software
This operation is compulsory after each installation or reinstallation of DIAG software.
Once the DIAG software is installed, the dialogue application must be defined (1 to 4) as well as the type of target machine (TSX CPM, CCX 77FP or PC compatible) and configured. Refer to the PL7-MMI 37 manual section 3.1 : Selecting the target machine.
Once the selection has been made, the function DIAG PROCESS in PL7-MMI 37 must be declared and configured. The files generated are transferred to the target machine
(TSX DCM, CCX 77FP or PC compatible).
Declaring the DIAG PROCESS option
This operation is necessary for the DIAG PROCESS function to become a task which is recognized by the PL7-MMI 37 design software.
• Pull down the Utilities menu of the main PL7-MMI 37 screen and select Add option, which displays the list of options available.
• Select the option DIAG PROCESS. It then appears in reverse video.
• Validate the selection.
Configuring the DIAG PROCESS option
This operation enables :
1 Generation of the symbol database which will be transferred to the cartridge so that it can be used by the DIAG PROCESS function. The only symbols which will be selected are those which have the DIAGPCM criterion in XTEL-SDBASE.
2
Listing the system files which must be loaded in the cartridge for the DIAG tool. This list is specific to the PL7-3 application developed for that station.
Preliminary operations
Before proceeding with the configuration, check that :
• The PL7-3 application for the target PLC has been saved on disk with the default name : PL7_3
• At least one variable allocated by a mnemonic symbol by DIAGPCM exists in the
XTEL-SDBASE database.
Caution : Ensure that the PL7-3 application stored on disk is as up to date as the PLC application to be diagnosed.
To configure the DIAG PROCESS option, proceed as follows :
• Pull down the Creation menu of the main PL7-MMI 37 screen and select the
Configuration Manager. The following screen is displayed :
___________________________________________________________________________
7
2 Using DIAG
___________________________________________________________________________
• Select DIAG PROCESS : Configuration and confirm the selection by pressing OK.
At the end of the configuration press OK again and then quit the configuration manager. NB : If there are a large number of DIAGPCM type symbols, configuration may take a few minutes.
Creation of tables and transfer to the operator dialogue target machine
In order to use the DIAG PROCESS option, a new image of the operator dialogue application must be generated and transferred to the memory of the target machine (cartridge for the
TSX PCM module, hard disk for the CCX 77FP terminal or PC compatible). To do this under
PL7-MMI 37 :
• Pull down the Generation menu of the main PL7-MMI 37 screen and select Creation of tables
• Once the tables are created, pull down the Generation menu again, select Task
Selector and then select the DIAG PROCESS task
• Pull down the Transfer menu to load the image generated onto the target machine.
_____________________________________________________________________
2.2
Execution of the DIAG function in the foreground
There are three ways of displaying the DIAG PROCESS function in the foreground :
• From the list of alarms screen. To do this, the operator must select from this list the alarm to be diagnosed by using the "Select" item of the function key
<F4> - BANNER. Once the alarm is selected, the DIAG key starts the execution of the function in the foreground :
• from a graphic screen by using a function key "FOR" value "DIAG", defined in the design of the operator dialogue application
• from the Run-time manager screen by pressing <F10>.
___________________________________________________________________________

Using DIAG 2
____________________________________________________________________________
2.3
Screen levels
DIAG software has four levels of display screen :
• Display of alarms
• Description of the alarm
• Display of the monitored equation
• Display of an OFB.
1 Display of alarms
This function is not performed by DIAG itself, but by the ALARMS task or the graphic task :
• During operation, the ALARMS task monitors the alarm conditions defined by the configuration tables, so as to inform the operator of errors in the monitored process.
The operator can select an alarm on the screen showing the list of alarms and execute
DIAG in the foreground, in order to display more detailed information concerning the alarm displayed.
• A graphic screen, animated by the graphic task, can comprise a zone which displays the alarm banner. If the designer has provided a command in this screen which requests execution of DIAG in the foreground, the operator can diagnose this alarm.
2 Description of the alarm
The description of the selected alarm (extended comment associated with the symbol of the alarm variable) is displayed in the first DIAG screen.
3 Display of the monitored equation
If the symbol of the alarm variable is associated with an OFB of the type EVDGS,
MVDGS or TRDGS (with recording of the source), it is possible to display the diagnosed
Literal statement or Ladder network in real time.
4 Display of an OFB
If the selected alarm is associated with a diagnostic OFB, DIAG allows it to be displayed as follows :
• Display of the I/O and their states
• Display of the internal data and constants
• Display of the status word.
