Appendix B: Wireless Guest Access

What is guest access

The Netgear 7550 has a guest access feature that can be enabled so that guests of the customer may access Internet services without the ability to connect to any of the customer’s computers or the 7550’s gateway menu. Things to note about Guest Access:

Guest access permits access to the Internet

Guest uses a second private LAN, with a network address block that is distinctly different (192.168.5.0/24) than that of the 7550’s private

LAN (192.168.254.0/24)

Due to the separate network address block, guest users are unable to access the gateway menu (192.168.254.254) or any computer on the private or public LAN

One good reason for a customer to want guest access enabled is so they can provide internet access without the risk of those guests accessing the customer’s computers

Just like normal wireless, guest access MUST be secured and the preferred encryption method is WPA/WPA2/WPA Any

Guest access options screen

Guest access options reside in the 7550’s wireless settings, the 6 th

option in the menu wireless settings menu

After entering the Guest Access screen, follow the steps in the next section
