Troubleshooting Chart

Problem

Poor reception

Scanner will not power on

The keypad does not work

Scanner will not scan when

SCAN key is pressed

The scanner does not receive digital transmissions on digital frequencies or trunking systems

Possible Cause Remedy

Weak signals from distant stations Reposition radio for best reception

Attenuator in use on weak signals Check performance with and without attenuator activated, use setting with best reception

Strong signal overload from nearby transmitter(s)

Check performance with and without attenuator activated, use setting with best reception

AC or DC power supply not properly connected

Dead batteries

Keypad lock is activated

Check connection to AC or DC power source

Replace batteries

Press FUNC LOCK to disable keypad lock

The scanner may need to be reset or initialized

Possible “birdie” frequency programmed

The scanner may need to be reset or initialized

No channels programmed, or only one channel programmed, or all channels locked out

Follow steps to reset or initialize the scanner on Page 104

Tighten squelch, apply attenuator or lock out the “birdie” frequency

Follow steps to reset/reinitialize the scanner on Page 104

Ensure that the scanner has more than one channel programmed and enabled for scanning

SQUELCH control is not adjusted properly

The digital channel or talkgroup is not using APCO-25 digital modulation

The digital channel or talkgroup is encrypted

The digital channel or talkgroup is being transmitted from a distant location

Turn SQUELCH control clockwise until scanning resumes

The scanner can only receive

APCO-25 C4FM IMBE digital signals

The scanner will not receive encrypted traffic

Reposition the scanner or use an outdoor antenna to improve reception
