Verifying Database Connection
Your IntelliTrack application contains a database that stores your data and all data transactions. It is located on a PC or network server. In IntelliTrack v8.x applications, the database is managed by SQL Server or SQL Express.
During application installation, SQL login is set and your IntelliTrack database is created. To verify database creation and connection, you must know your SQL Login information (including server name and/or instance) and your IntelliTrack database name.
IntelliTrack
Database
The database is created during application installation. When you use the database that is created during application installation, it is automatically given a name. The default database name for each application is found in the table below.

Information
During application installation, the default logon information for SQL
Server is set as username “sa” and password IntelliTrack#2008. You are able to change the database name and SQL Server logon information.
However, for SQL 2008, a strong password is required. For more informa-
tion on the SQL login password requirements, see “SQL Server 2008 Login

for more information.
SQL Server 2008 Login Strong Password Requirements
The default IntelliTrack password for SQL Server 2008 login is
IntelliTrack#2008. It is set during application installation. It is a strong password. If you want to use another password for SQL login, be aware

Database Maintenance that it must be a strong password. A strong password meets the following requirements:
1.
•
•
•
Can’t contain the account name or part of the account name in it.
Must be at least 8 characters long.
•
Must contain characters from at least 3 of the following 4 categories:
Latin uppercase (A-Z)
Latin lowercase (a-z)
Base 10 digits (0-9)
Non-alphanumeric characters such as exclamation point (!), dollar sign ($), number sign (#), or percent (%)
In order for you to successfully startup and run your IntelliTrack application, the database must be attached to your application. If your IntelliTrack application cannot find its database, it will not startup or run. The database connection is managed through SQL Server and encompasses three main components: server name, server log on information, and database name.
You are able to verify your database connection from the DATA.UDL file that is located in the IntelliTrack program folder. By default, the Intelli-
Track application program folder is installed on the computer’s C drive.
The table below shows the default path for each of IntelliTrack’s applications. The DATA.UDL file is found in this directory.

Database Connection Test Example
You are able to easily test your IntelliTrack application’s database connection by using the DATA.UDL file. In this example, the Check In-Out database connection is tested by using the DATA.UDL file. You may test any
IntelliTrack application’s database connection in the same way.
1.
2.
Go to the IntelliTrack Check In-Out program folder. By default it is installed on C:\Program Files\Intelli-
Track\DMS\Check In Out\8.1. Locate the DATA.UDL file.
Select the DATA.UDL file and then double-click it.
3.
The Data Link Properties screen appears. The Data Link Properties screen shows the database information that is currently stored by the application, including the server name, server logon information (username and password), and the database name on the server. Generally, this information is set during product installation.

To test the server and database connection for Check In-Out, select the
Test Connection button in the Data Link Properties screen.
5.
If the database is properly setup and connected to Check In-Out, the following message appears: Test Connection Succeeded. This means that the application can find the database and connect to it; and when you open Check In-Out, the information found in this database will be included in the application forms, history, and reports.
268

6.
If the test connection fails, it is usually because the database cannot be located or the server name or logon information is wrong. If this is the case, the database may not have been created during installation, or the name is different than the one entered. Or, the server connection information to the database is entered incorrectly. We suggest that you contact your network administrator for help in determining this database connection information for the Check In-Out application.
Connecting to the Database with SQL
Server
Management
Studio
SQL Server or SQL Express is an application that manages and runs your
IntelliTrack database. (If you do not have a full version of SQL Server on your system, IntelliTrack application installation will run and install SQL
Express.) Part of the SQL Server and SQL Express 2008 installation includes the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. You are able to use the Management Studio to access the server (data engine type) and database for your IntelliTrack application. It can be a useful tool in monitoring and maintaining your database. By default the SQL Server Management Studio is installed on C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\100\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE.
To connect to your database in SQL Server Management Studio, please refer to the steps that follow.
1.
2.
To open the SQL Server Management Studio, click Start > All Pro-
grams > Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
The Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio opens. The Connect to
Server dialog also appears onscreen.

To restore the most recent database backup file found in the databackup folder in your Check In Out directory, double-click the restore utility file restore.bat. The most recent backup file, backup.dat, found in the databackup folder in your Check In Out directory, is restored.
Important:The Backup and Restore batch files are created during the database installation and they use the database settings from the installation. If the database settings are wrong, the utilities will not work. If you change the database settings, you must update them in the batch files. (You may edit the batch files in Notepad.)
Databackup Folder Permissions
Important: The databackup folder in your program directory must have proper permissions in order to create a backup database with the backup utility.
In order to back up your database with the backup.bat utility, the
databackup folder in your IntelliTrack Program directory must have read/write access for the service account that SQL Server uses for the server instance containing the database being backed up. Typically, this account is named the Network Service account. To make sure that your
databackup folder contains the necessary permissions, please refer to the steps that follow.
1.
First, identify the name of the service account that SQL Server is using for the server instance containing the database being backed up. In order to identify the name of the service account, go to your computer’s
Administrative Tools, which are available from the Control Panel.
