Overview
Overview
About this Document
This Installation Guide describes how to install and configure Nexio® Motion Server. This process applies to all versions of Nexio Motion Server, unless otherwise documented.
Application and Database Servers
This guide is based on an environment that has Motion Server set up across two servers: a database server and a single Motion Server with all components installed.
Alternatively, Motion Server can be set up across four servers: three application servers (Server API,
Core Services, and Device Manager Service) and a database server. If Nexio Motion is installed across multiple servers, apply the appropriate installation steps to the server that has multiple Nexio Motion components installed:
Server API Server: Install Wcf, Rest, and Database components.
Core Services Server: Install Core Services.
Device Manager Server: Install Device Manager Service.
Quick Install Reference
The new procedure is as followed:

Motion Server
Requirements
The following requirements must be met for the Motion Server.
Operating System:
Windows® Server 2012 or later
(Included in the OS Install) Microsoft® .NET Framework 4.6 with latest Service Pack
Settings:
The server running on, or several Motion services and/or an IIS instance hosting the Motion WCF
API, must be set to the same date, time and timezone than the SQL server instance. It is recommended to use NTP to keep all the servers on the same time.
Note: If this is not done and the server time is different than the DB server time, Spy results can be delayed.
Before You Begin
Review this section to ensure the topics listed are addressed prior to installing Motion Server.
Uninstall Previous Versions
Before installing Nexio® Motion Server, uninstall any previous versions of the product.
Create Domain Accounts
The following domain accounts are necessary to install and configure Nexio Motion Server. The actual account names may be defined by the installer.
[domain]\[Administrator] – This account is a member of the Administrators group within the specified domain. The installer uses this account to log on to the servers and install the Nexio Motion Server software.
[domain]\[Motion] – This account is a member of the Users group, Performance Monitor Users group, and Administrators group within the specified domain. The installer uses this account to run Windows services that are created for Nexio Insight components, as well as to configure components.
When installing the server on a system without a domain, if the domain field is left empty (i.e. no domain), the installer automatically uses the local machine name. Leaving the domain blank is for when you install using a local user (local to the machine).
© 2017 Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. 4/12/2017 | Page 19
Nexio Motion4 Server
Installation Reference Motion Server
Note: The server tool automatically adds the service user (this is the Windows user that runs the services) to the Administrators group.
Note: The following accounts are referenced in later sections of this guide. These values are provided for demonstration purposes only: ‘DOMAIN\Administrator’ and ‘DOMAIN\Motion.
Installation Rules, Locations, etc.
Nexio Motion can be installed without the Nexio® Insight App Server. In turn, this allows Nexio
Motion to run on SQL Express (for small systems).
Running Motion without Nexio Insight: If no Insight Endpoint is specified during configuration,
Motion works without authentication (i.e. arbitrary credentials can be used). For configuration details see Motion4 Operations Reference.
When installing the server on a system without a domain, if the domain field is left empty (i.e. no domain), the installer automatically uses the local machine name. Leaving the domain blank is for when you install using a local user (local to the machine).
Location of Tools folders: During installation a number of tools are installed for later use with
Motion 4. These are located in the following folders:
C:\Program Files\Imagine Communications\Motion\Server\database.tools
Database Configuration tool (dbconfig.exe)
C:\Program Files\Imagine Communications\Motion\Server\server.tools
Motion Server Configuration utility (serverconfig.exe.)
Batch files: StopAllServices.bat and StartAllServices.bat are used to start or stop all the
Motion4 services. These batch files only work when the services are installed/registered as services.
REST service: The configuration executable (restaipconfig application icon.) is included in the server.tools folder. Configuration requires providing the Motion Url, Motion user, password, logpath, and REST Service listening port.
Installing Nexio Motion Server
This section outlines the installation process for Motion Server.
Installed Prerequisites
With Motion 4.9 the following prerequisites are installed on Server 2012 as part of the Motion 4 server install. This brings the server to a working state, assuming the user sets up a connection to an SQL instance, and licenses the product.
1. The following windows features are enabled, if they are not already enabled. If they are already enabled, the installer status message will still say enabling, which indicates it is checking to see if the feature is already there:
IIS-WebServer
IIS-Security
IIS-BasicAuthentication

2. .Net 3.5 is installed if the user does not yet have it installed
3. Write HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\VC\VCRedist\x64 &
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\VC\VCRedist\x86 installed to being 1. This is because logging checks these reg keys to check if VC++ 2010 is installed.
4. The VC++ 2015 redistributable is installed with the server and the client.
5. .Net 4.6 is installed it if it is not present.
6. HsMediaLibraries (required by the CIFS DC) are included in the Motion server MSI and are only installed if the CIFS DC is installed.
Hsmediaext.exe, and its required dlls are installed with the Motion Server in the CIFS folder, in a sub folder called hsmedia. A value added to the system Path variable allows calling hsmediaext from this new location.
On Motion server uninstall, the addition to the path variable as well as the hxmedia components are removed.
Note: Uninstalling Insight doesn't uninstall the HsMediaLibraries required by the CIFS DC.
Installing Nexio Motion Server Components
Use the following procedure to install Motion Server with all components.
Install Notes: If none of the features or prerequisites required for Motion are installed, the installer will take about 10 minutes to fully install everything.
1. Select and run the Motion Server installer. This install file covers 64 bit installations.
2. On the Welcome screen click Next.
3. On the Custom Setup screen:
To install all components select 'Motion Server'.
(Option) To install individual components, expand the list and select the subcomponent(s) to install as required.
Device Controllers are categorized into functional sub components to allow for easier selection during installation. Categories are:

8. Magellan Diagnostic Logger: Magellan Diagnostic logging 2.0 is installed by the Motion4.9 server installer and higher, with the logging installer running in a non-interactive mode; the user only has the option to cancel it. This results in the Diagnostic Logging installer showing and then closing when it completes and returning to the Nexio Motion Install Wizard, without requiring user interaction.
The installer only tries to install logging if it is not already installed.

Create the Nexio Motion database
Once Motion Server is installed use this procedure to create the Nexio Motion Database.
Note: Starting with Motion 4.7 the initial DB size is set to 1GB growth to 10%, and the fill factor is set to
60.
1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Imagine Communications\Motion\Server\database.tools folder, and run dbconfig.exe. This tool will create the Nexio Motion database.
2. Specify the following…
SQL Server Machine Name: Enter the hostname/IP address of the Database Server.
Database Name: Enter the name of the database to be created.
Database File Directory: Specify the database file path.
By default, the DB is installed in the SQL server instance data folder: C:\Program
File\Imagine Communications\Motion\Server\Database Files.
A check box allows the operator to override the default location, which then requires the user to enter the path to the DB.
Note: This folder needs to exist on the SQL server machine and that SQL Server service need to have R/W access to it.
User Name: The tool auto-populates the NT user with the information gathered from IIS (i.e.
The user credential provided at the setup time for the windows service and the app pool - along

Success is displayed in green
If successful, a single "OK" button is displayed.
If Failure, re-enable the main window is re-enabled so the operator can adjust the settings to correct the error and retry.
About Database Keys and Description Column
With Motion v4.5 and higher, by default the configuration Database tables are populated with all possible keys used by the system. They also have a Description column describing each setting and its value boundaries.
About the IsSystem column: IsSystem means that the server uses that setting only and the server doesn't allow to get or change that setting through the client API. (e.g.: MaintenanceMode, only the server can put itself into and step out of maintenance mode.)

About the DB Cleanup Service
Motion Server
The Cleanup Service deletes Workflow Instances and related items which are older than a configured specified time.
Note: A customer's configuration is not overwritten during an upgrade.
1. Select the gear button on the top right of the standalone application.
2. The System Settings & Environment variables popup dialog is displayed.
3. Select the System Settings tab. There are only two parameter options available to access:
Cleanup Time: Possible value is a time in timespan format: DD.hh:mm:ss. Default value is 3 days.
The Cleanup Service will delete Workflow Instances and related items which are older than this specified time.
After changing this value a Cleanup Service restart is required.
Note: In Motion 4.8 the default setting of the Database’s Cleanup Time was changed from 30 days to 3 days. Since a customer's configuration is not overwritten during an upgrade, customers upgrading their system to 4.9 will show their previously set default. For example: 30
Days.
Configuring REST API
Configuration requires providing providing information, such as the Motion Url, Websocket Port, File
Notification URL, and REST Service listening port.
1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Imagine Communications\Motion\Server\server.tools folder, and run the restapiconfig application icon.
(If Windows user access control is enabled, run it as administrator.)
This tool will do the initial configuration.
2. On the REST API dialog configure the following parameters as required.
The REST API uses the Motion system user by default (MotionSystem).

Installation Reference Motion Server
Listening port: The port on which the REST API will listen on. The default service listening TCP port is 9005. Change the port if TCP/9005 is already used by another service on your system.
Motion URL: The URL to the Motion WCF API. (The default Motion URL for the REST API is http://localhost/Motion.)
Configure connections necessary to get notifications on file changes:
Websocket Port: Specify the port that the REST API will attempt to open the file notification websocket on. If the REST API cannot open this port, it will try the next 100 in an attempt to find an open port.
Note: Currently, the websocket only notifies the user for closed/changed and deleted events.
Note: When connected to this port, the client is expected to send a message of type
MotionNotificationRestriction at which point they will start getting file change notifications of type MotionFileDescription.
On the Server configuration tool, configure "Message Service" and "Rabbit Connection" parameters. These coordinate the notification socket used by the REST API for getting notifications on file changes.
Note: The notification socket provides notifications about workflow instance status changes.
Specifically, it provides notifications of the following events: Created, Started,
ActivityCreated, ActivityProgress, ActivityCompleted, Paused, Resumed, Aborted, Failed, and
Completed.
logPath: All the logs goes to Magellan Diagnostic Logging.
Verbose Logging: Check to enable logging of all requests.
Log Folder: Click to browse for a logging folder.
3. In the Motion REST API dialog, click Save.

Motion 4.7 Upgrade Note
The following additional steps are required when upgrading.
Workflows
During an upgrade Motion will attempt to load a workflow in the invariant culture. If that fails, it will try loading it in the system culture. Motion will also save all new/updated workflows in the invariant culture. While this will work in most cases, it will still fail if the user tries to load an old workflow created on a system that had a culture that was not the local systems or the invariant.
This means that after upgrading to 4.7, the workflow needs to be exported from that system to be importable on all (4.7+) systems. Alternatively 4.7 can be installed on a separate system, the language settings changed to Portuguese (or other required language), the workflow imported, and then the workflow exported. The resulting workflow will be importable on all 4.7+ systems, regardless of language settings.
FTP Endpoints
When upgrading to Motion 4.7 the root path of an FTP spy will be cleared and must be manually re-entered in the endpoint's parameters."
System Backup Dialog Box: configuration export
Users are warned about system backup "upgrades" that aren't supported by a message in the system backup dialog box that explains this feature is only to export a configuration to support and can only be restored on the exact same system version.
The backup contains the version number, so the user is warned when trying to restore a backup with a version different from the system version.
Preparing for the upgrade
Perform the following "check" steps before starting the upgrade.
Review and list of all currently installed devices to ensure that you have a good list of the device drivers to select when running the install.
Execute a run as command prompt with the Motion services user to ensure that you have the correct password.

If integrated with ADC, ensure that you have the correct ADC Services hostname.
To upgrade Motion 4 Server and Client
1. Run StopAllServices.bat as Administrator in C:\Program Files\Imagine
Communications\Motion\Server\server.tools
2. Perform a full DB backup. The DB upgrade tool can perform this, but it will only use the default location for backup. An operator can always opt-out of the upgrade backup.
3. Check to ensure that all services are stopped and stop any that are not.
4. Uninstall the Motion Client in Control Panel – Programs and Features.
5. Uninstall the Motion Server in Control Panel – Programs and Features.
6. Install the new version of the Motion Server.
7. Run dbconfig.exe from C:\Program Files\Imagine Communications\Motion\Server\database.tools.
Run the Update Script.

IMPORTANT: If a DB upgrade is necessary, the tool will backup the DB automatically (to the default
SQl backup folder).
8. Navigate C:\Program Files\Imagine Communications\Motion\server\server.tools folder, and run serverconfig.exe. This tool will do the initial configuration.
IMPORTANT: Do not reuse config file backups. Config files contains reference to specific DLL versions, using a config file from a different version will cause the services to fail.
9. Run StartAllServices.bat as Administrator in C:\Program Files\Imagine
Communications\Motion\Server\server.tools
10. Check to ensure that all services are started.
11. Install the new version of the Motion Client.

Motion4 Licensing with Software
Dongle
About the Dongle
A software dongle ensures customer can only use the services for which what they have paid.
Note: There is a single license for the whole system, no matter how many clients or service instances are deployed.
Implementation: Licensing currently keys on the following:
Name
Expiry
Type
DateTime
Default
02/02/2222
Licensing Checks
The system routinely performs the following licensing checks:
Overall Application License
Check on service start for valid license. The service is immediately stopped if there is no valid license.
Check at midnight (local time) every day to see if license is still valid. Everything is gracefully shut down if the license is now expired.
User information
The Motion client title bar displays a warning (yellow/orange) when the license will expire in less than 6 months.
Motion client displays an error dialog when the license is expired asking the user to contact Imagine
Communications support. Once the message is acknowledged, the client closes. The same message is displayed if the user tries to login again.
The WCF and REST services are unaffected by the licensing and will continue to run even with an expired/invalid license.
The Insight client is also unaffected by the licensing. The Insight client remains able to view and start workflows (even though they won't run) without a valid Motion server license.
After a valid license has been applied, the user needs to start the services.

Baton DC Configuration Notes
Motion 4.7 includes a new Device Controller for Interra Systems Baton quality check device and adds
Baton DC to the installer under the Video Processing group.
Operation
The Baton Quality Control Device Controller uses personal Zenium engine just for Motion (deployed with
Motion), license server, a very simple blueprint, and the Zenium Baton plug-in to provide Baton QC support. The simple Web API can submit and monitor jobs in Zenium and then retrieve the job results.
The device controller generates a package (zip file) from the original report files.
Note: Always reusing the same Zenium instance ID without disposing of it allows it to stay loaded and so saves resources.
Deployment
The Baton DC is deployed with Motion.
The Zenium Server and the Zenium Repo Server that the DC uses must be deployed separately from
Motion. Motion doesn't necessarily have to be on the same machine as the device manager (all the URLs are configurable), but the default behavior assumes that it is.
Reference Note: For details on Zenium reference the Zenium Designer Users Guide.
Support Note: Contact support for Zenium components and related distributables.
Configuration notes:
1. The location of the file needs to be added in the Content Location in Baton
2. After installing Zenium and Motion, reboot the machine. If you get Kayak license error, restarting
DRCKayakServerServices may fix it
3. After installing Kayak server and plugin, go the links below to verify they are running properly:
-- http://wtl-jefffox:15080/console/ (You should see the Motion computer is requiring Zenium license)
4. Motion can point to Zenium Server on other machine. Just change the config file here: "C:\Program
Files\Imagine
Communications\Motion\Server\devicemanager\DeviceControllers\Baton\batondc.exe.config"
