17
230 V relay
This relay disconnects the eCore power components from the mains voltage.
The contacts are closed if the eCore logic allows and if the mains voltage is
within tolerance. They are opened when the mains voltage is out of tolerance.
18
3 kW inverter
This inverter has the following tasks:
• Generate 230 V / 50 Hz voltage from the 12 Vg supply when the mains
voltage is not connected or is out of tolerance.
• Generate 230 V / 50 Hz voltage from the 12 Vg supply in order to
operate in parallel with the mains voltage (Power Sharing).
• Supply of the DC bus and the DC/DC converter in order to operate the
eCore as a PFC rectifier (Power Factor Correction) and to charge the
battery.
19
DC bus
This is the common point of all the eCore power sources, and it is not
accessible from outside. The voltage on the DC bus is between 350 and
380 Vg.

This rectifier converts the 3-phase voltage of a connected ePower T generator
into DC voltage that supplies the DC bus.
21
DC/DC converter
The DC/DC converter is divided into two parts:
• The up-converter transforms the 12 Vg voltage of the battery into DC bus
voltage that supplies the inverter (max. 2 kW).
• The down-converter transforms the DC bus voltage into 12 Vg voltage
that charges the house battery (max. 100 A).
22
eCore control logic
The control logic manages all the power elements, communication and all
eCore functions.

Earth relay
If the earth relay is switched on, the neutral conductor (N) of the inverter
output is connected internally to the protective earth (PE/GND).
If the earth relay is off, there is no connection between the neutral conductor
(N) and the protective earth (PE/GND).
Observe the regulations that apply in your country for this setting.
24
DC Kit switch
The DC Kit switch allows the house battery and the vehicle battery to be
switched in parallel. The DC Kit switch is closed when the D+ signal is highactive (vehicle engine is turned on) and the vehicle battery has sufficient
supply power from the vehicle charging system. The DC Kit switch is open
when the D+ signal is low-active (vehicle engine is turned off).
The control panel operates in three modes:
• Normal mode:
The display is switched on and all the LEDs of the LED light bars are lit from the
bottom to the current value.
• Screensaver mode:
The display is switched off and only the LED that indicates the current value lights
up on the LED light bars.
• Standby mode:
The display and all LEDs are switched off; only the standby LED flashes. In standby
mode, the system consumes only 2 mA.
When the main switch is switched to the “I” or “II” position, the control panel
switches to normal mode and opens the mode selection menu.
If no key is pressed within a minute, the control panel switches to standby mode. To
exit standby mode, press the SET button for 1 s.
Selecting an operating mode activates the eCore. If no key is pressed within a
minute, the control panel switches to screensaver mode. Press any key to exit
screensaver mode.

2: U0 phase (absorption)
Now the absorption charging process (U0 phase) begins, in which the charge
duration depends on the size and type of the battery. The charging voltage is
14.25 V constant (AGM: 14.4 V); the charging current depends on factors including
the type of battery, the ambient temperature and how deeply the battery was
discharged.
Phase 2 ends after no more than 8 h (AGM: 24 h) after reaching 14.25 V (AGM
14.4 V).
3: U phase (floating)
The U phase serves to maintain the battery capacity (100 %). During this phase, the
charging voltage is kept constant at 13.5 V (AGM: 13.8 V).

4: Conditioning
Every 14 days (AGM: 28 days), the battery charger switches back to phase 2 in order
to revive the battery. This prevents any fatigue symptoms such as sulphation.
Charging with the battery temperature sensor
The battery temperature sensor supplied with the device needs to be connected.
This adapts the charging voltage to the battery voltage. The charging voltage during
the U0 phase is increased or reduced according to the battery temperature (see the

At the beginning of the charging process, the flat battery is charged with a constant
current (100 % charge current) until the battery voltage reaches 13.6 V. The charging
current decreases when the battery has reached this charging level.
2: U phase (absorption and floating)
The U phase serves to maintain the battery capacity (100 %). During this phase, the
charging voltage is kept constant at 13.6 V.
When an eStore lithium battery is connected to the eCore, it takes control of eCore's
battery charger and defines the appropriate voltage and current for charging itself
thereby increasing the eStore performance and lifetime.
When eStore and eCore are connected all operations run automatically (see eStore

Functions of the eCore
eCore is the control unit of the eSystem energy management system.
Inverter
The inverter component of eCore can operate in three operating modes:
• Independent inverter
• PFC rectifier (Power Factor Correction) to supply the battery charger
• Inverter parallel to the mains voltage
The inverter operates independently when the mains voltage is outside of the
tolerance values. The supply voltage comes from the house battery.
As soon as the mains voltage is within the tolerance values, the inverter operates in
parallel with the mains voltage. If the connected load is higher than the configured
input current, the inverter takes the additional energy required from the house
battery and operates as a generator to keep the mains voltage from being overloaded. A warning tone sounds to indicate that the battery is being discharged.
When the load is less than the configured input current, the inverter is connected to
the mains voltage and the residual power from the mains is used to charge the house
battery.
If the load is less than 85% of the configured input current, it can operate as a PFC
rectifier (Power Factor Correction) and charge the battery. If the mains voltage is
disconnected, the inverter switches from the PFC rectifier to independent inverter
operation (within 10 ms).

ePower generator
An ePower generator (1800 W) can be connected to the eCore:
• A multipolar armoured cable is supplied with the ePower T generator. This cable
includes a high voltage/frequency 3-phase cable supplying the power from the
generator to the eCore and a CAN bus connection. Via the CAN bus the eCore
can fully monitor and control the ePower T generator.
• 12 Vg connection: this connection must be connected directly to the house
battery and is used to start the generator
I
NOTE
• For safety reasons, the Autostart function must be activated manually
each time the eCore is switched on.
• The generator can also be started manually from the control panel.
• All generator working parameters can be set using the control panel.
The connection to the generator allows using the system in following ways:
• Standard generator using the generator mode: The generator runs producing
electrical power. The eCore works like an inverter to convert the energy from the
generator into a stable 230 V/50 Hz voltage and to charge the house battery.
• Support battery charger using the autostart function: the generator automatically
starts when the house battery voltage falls below 12,5 V and stops if the charging
current falls below the 80 % of the maximum current after the U0 phase.
• Support for the house battery in case of high load using the Heavy-Duty function:
the generator automatically starts if the house battery discharges more than 1 kW
for more than 1 min and can be used for power generation and recharging the
battery. It is automatically turned off if the output load drops to less than 1 kW for
more than 5 min.
You can set the following parameters:
• Manually turn on/off the generator
• Set a Quiet period (this is the time during which it is not allowed to turn on the
generator)

DC kit function
The DC kit function connects the supply and vehicle battery in parallel. This makes
the following functions available:
• Charging of the house battery while the vehicle engine is running
• Supplying 230 V power consuming devices with voltage from the alternator and
vehicle battery when the vehicle engine is running
• Supporting the vehicle battery during starting of the vehicle (DC Boost function)
The rated current is 100 A.
The following is required to enable the DC kit function:
• The D+ signal is active.
• The voltage of the vehicle battery is higher than the voltage of the house battery.
• The voltage of the vehicle battery is higher than 13.6 V and less 15 V.
• The voltage difference between the vehicle battery and the house battery is less
than 2 V.
Air Conditioners that do not possess CAN or LIN communication may be controlled
via the aux contacts to drive the energy save mode. DC kit function works as follows:
• If the vehicle engine is off, the D+ signal is low: If the vehicle engine is not
running, then the DC Kit switch (fig. 3 24, page 4) and the AUX contacts
(fig. 3 3, page 4) are open. The air conditioner runs in normal mode.
• If the vehicle engine is running, the D+ signal is high:
– If the battery voltage is higher than 13.6 V and the voltage difference between
the supply and vehicle battery is less than 2 V, then the DC Kit switch
(fig. 3 24, page 4) closes and the AUX contacts (fig. 3 3, page 4) remain
open. The air conditioner runs in normal mode.
– If the battery voltage is below 12.5 V, then the DC Kit switch (fig. 3 24,
page 4) remains closed and the AUX contacts (fig. 3 3, page 4) are close
switching the air conditioner to energy save mode. The air conditioner runs in
energy-saving mode (the compressor is switched off).
– If the battery voltage falls below 12 V, then the DC Kit switch (fig. 3 24,
page 4) opens to avoid overdischarge of the vehicle battery.
I

NOTE
If the DC Kit switch (fig. 3 24, page 4) is closed, then the battery
charger is switched off to keep the house battery from being overcharged.

Operating modes of the eCore
If the main switch (fig. 1 12, page 3) is in the “I” position, eCore operates in the
following modes:
• Charging mode: In this mode, eCore works as a battery charger only keeping
all the other functions turned off. This mode is useful when the vehicle is stopped
for an extended period.
• Manual mode: In this mode, the functions of the eCore can be individually
enabled or disabled.
• Generator mode: For this mode, an ePower T generator must be connected.
In this mode, the mains voltage is disconnected and the battery charger is
switched on when the power of the generator is sufficient.
• UPS mode (Uninterruptible Power Supply): In this mode, eCore operates as an
uninterruptible power supply. The device supplies connected power consuming
devices from a battery when the mains voltage fails.
If the main switch is in the “II” position, the eCore operates in Automatic mode. In
this mode, eCore enables or disables the functions automatically.
Charging mode (ONLY CHARGER)
In this mode the eCore works as a battery charger and maintainer. AC power
generation from the inverter is not available. The maximum charging current is
limited by the MAX AC IN value, and Power Sharing is disabled. In this configuration
the whole eCore system consumption is reduced to a minimum. In this mode the
eCore attempts to recover the battery in the case of discharge (battery voltage less
than 10.5 V).
A charger wake-up function can be set to automatically wake up the eCore if the
mains is connected or the vehicle runs (D+ high).

Automatic mode (AUTO MODE)
In this mode, eCore enables or disables the functions automatically, taking the
following parameters into account.
• The mains voltage has priority.
• The battery is charged when the output current is less than the set maximum
mains current (MAX AC IN). The charging current is limited by the available
current from the mains voltage.
• The inverter is switched on when the output current is higher than the set
maximum value. This prevents overloading of the mains voltage.
If the battery charger is enabled at this moment, it is switched off. If the output
current drops below the maximum value, the battery charger is switched on
again if necessary.
• When the battery charge is too low, the generator is started (if the Autostart
function is enabled); it remains on until the battery is charged.
Manual mode (MANUAL MODE)
In this mode, the functions of the eCore can be individually enabled or disabled. By
default, the functions work in automatic mode.
Generator mode (GENERATOR MODE)
In this mode, the eCore simulates a generator. This requires that an ePower T
generator is connected.
The eCore disconnects the mains voltage. It switches on the battery charger if the
power from the generator is sufficient. As the mains voltage is switched off in this
mode, Power Sharing is not available.

UPS mode (UPS MODE)
In this mode, eCore works as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS = uninterruptible
power supply) and supplies connected power consuming devices with battery
current if the mains voltage fails. This mode is useful for connected power consuming
devices that should not shut down in the event of mains voltage failure.
This mode takes the following parameters into account:
• The mains voltage has priority.
• A redundancy alarm is activated. This alarm informs the user that the required
output power is higher than the maximum inverter capacity when supplied by the
battery (max. 2000 W) and the inverter will not be able to provide sufficient
power in the event of mains voltage failure.
• The Power Sharing function is not available. If the output power is higher than the
inverter capacity, the power consuming devices are no longer supplied. The
house battery will automatically be charged when the output load is less than the
inverter‘s maximum output.
• When the battery voltage is too low, the generator is started (if the Autostart
function is enabled); it remains on until the battery is charged.

Additional functions of the eCore
I
NOTE
This function is only available if an ePower T generator is connected to
the eCore.
The Quiet function of the generator activates the Quiet period. This is the time during
which the generator can not be started (during the night, for example). This Quiet
period can be adjusted.
Heavy-Duty function
I
NOTE
This function is only available if an ePower T generator is connected to
the eCore.
By default, this function is deactivated.
The Heavy-Duty function of the generator starts the generator automatically to support the output power required by the power consuming devices in the case of
need.
When the power being drawn from the house battery is more than 1000 W for at
least a minute, the generator starts. When the power is between 1000 W and 1500
W, the generator supplies the power consuming devices and charges the battery. If
the power is above 1500 W, the generator supports the mains voltage.
If the required power falls below 1000 W for a least five minutes, the generator is
switched off automatically.
DC Boost function
This function can only be activated manually. It serves to support the vehicle battery
when the vehicle is being started.
This function requires the following:
• The D+ signal is not active.
• The voltage of the house battery is higher than the voltage of the vehicle battery.
• The voltage difference between the house battery and the vehicle battery is less
than 2 V.

Smart Wake-up function (SWF)
This function is enabled as default. The eCore automatically wakes up from standby
to the automatic mode, if the D+ signal goes high (vehicle engine running) or the
mains power is connected. No confirmation by the user is required to wake up the
eCore. The eCore remains in automatic mode until both power sources alternator
and mains voltage are removed. With both power sources lost a timeout countdown
(adjustable) begins (chapter “Battery save function (BATT SAVE)” on page 40). The
eCore returns to standby when the countdown reaches zero.
The eCore automatically re-starts when one of the power sources alternator or mains
power becomes available.
For additional protection, a battery voltage threshold can be set, below which the
eCore switches to standby in order to save battery energy. If an ePower generator is
present, the GEN AUTO function is manually enabled by the user and the generator
is running, it is considered as a third power source and the timeout to standby is disabled until the generator stops.
I
EN
NOTE
Because the eCore automatically starts the AC power generation without user action the generator automatic functions are disabled. The user
can manually enable the GEN AUTO function after the eCore wake-up.
By disabling the smart wake-up function in the user setup menu
this function is permanently disabled and the eCore switches to
automatic mode (the automatic standby and SWF remain
disabled at next wake-up).
If the generator is turned on when the D+ signal and the mains voltage
are disconnected, the eCore won‘t initiate the coundown to timeout
until the generator stops running.
For further details see the flowchart (fig. b, page 12 and fig. c,
page 13).

Free Camping function
This function is enabled as default. Free camping means the user has to manually
wake up eCore because no other external power sources are available (mains is
disconnected and engine is turned off). In this case eCore starts a countdown to
standby (chapter “Battery save function (BATT SAVE)” on page 40) to save battery
energy. The countdown to standby is cancelled when at least one of the following
conditions is met:
• mains is connected
• vehicle engine is running
• ePower generator is running
• output load is more than 150 W
I
NOTE
This energy saving feature is available only when eCore is manually
turned on from standby.
Drive Away Alarm
The Drive Away Alarm activates a visual alarm (alarm menu on the eCore display) and
an audible alarm, if both power sources alternator and mains voltage are connected
and the vehicle engine is on. This will remind the user to disconnect the mains power
line before driving away.
The alarm stops automatically after 1 minute. The alarm menu automatically
disappears if the alarm condition is no longer met (mains is disconnected or engine
is turned off). To exit from the alarm menu press any key.
I
38
NOTE
If the Smart Wake-up function (SWF) is not active the eCore wakes up in
case of Drive Away Alarm, but no power is generated (unless manually
set).

Night Mode
Night Mode is an active standby of the eCore. When Night Mode is active the eCore
ventilation system is forced off. If the mains line is connected, the eCore works as a
battery charger. If the mains line is not connected, the eCore switches to active
standby. As soon as the mains line is connected the eCore activates the battery
charger.
To activate Night Mode:
➤ Press and hold SET for 5 s from any status screen.
To exit from Night Mode:
➤ Press and hold SET for 1 s.
I
NOTE
• If the internal temperature is higher than 50 °C, Night Mode is
activated and the eCore ventilation system is active.
• If the AC load is higher than the MAX AC IN value, it‘s not possible to
activate Night Mode.
• If the vehicle engine is on, it‘s not possible to activate Night Mode.
• Night Mode is automatically disabled, when the AC load surpasses
the MAX AC IN value or the vehicle engine is started.
AC SUPPORT function
The AC SUPPORT function supports the mains line when AC loads are higher than
the preset MAX AC IN value (mains fuse). By default, this function is disabled.
Load support continues while the overload persists and the battery voltage is
sufficient.
When the AC SUPPORT function is disabled, the eCore supports the mains for a
limited time (chapter “Battery save function (BATT SAVE)” on page 40), after which
the eCore stops power generation and allows mains overload. If the mains line fuse
trips, the eCore enters standby, saving battery capacity.
I
EN
NOTE
• If a connected ePower generator starts during the battery save
countdown, it is considered as a power source and the countdown
is reset. However, if loads are higher than the generator output and
the battery is discharging, the battery save countdown continues.
• Power from the DC Kit (engine alternator) is not considered as a
power source for the AC SUPPORT function, so the battery save
function is not affected by the DC KIT status.

Battery save function (BATT SAVE)
The battery save function protects batteries from discharge, when the eCore is
operating automatically. It starts a countdown and at the end of this countdown the
eCore stops power generation from the battery and switches to standby (depending
on the function which activated the screen). If power generation is needed during
the countdown, it is possible to pause the countdown by pressing the SET button.
The countdown to standby is continued by pressing the SET button again.
I
NOTE
While the countdown is paused, power generation will continue,
drawing current from the battery if necessary.
The battery save function has a status menu (fig. 5, page 6) that is visible only if the
battery save function is active. When battery savefunction is active, the eCore shows
this screen as default (after navigation in other screens or menus, the eCore returns
to the battery save countdown). This screen is activated during the AC SUPPORT
function and/or Smart Wake up Function (SWF).

power is available, to charge the vehicle battery.
In case of generator started manually or by Autostart, if
Quiet is enabled, eCore turns off the generator for the
programmed Quiet period (it isn‘t possible to start up
the generator, not even manually). At the end of the
Quiet period the generator starts up if Autostart is
enabled.
In case of generator started by Autostart, if the output
load is less than PGen and the battery charger is active,
the charger completes the constant current phase and
eCore turns off the generator when the battery current
falls below 80 % of the constant current during the
constant voltage phase.
