Configure the wireless settings
a Turn on the machine by plugging in the power cord.
b Turn on your computer.
c Put the supplied CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. The opening screen will appear automatically. If the model name screen appears, choose your machine. If the language screen appears, choose your language.
d The CD-ROM main menu will appear. Click Initial Installation or Advanced.

Explorer to run the start.exe program from the root folder of the Brother CD-ROM.

4 g Choose With cable (Recommended) and then click Next.
h Read the Important Notice. Check the box after you confirm the wireless setting is enabled, and then click Next.

If the list is blank, check if the access point and the machine are powered on, and then click Refresh.

Note
The default Node name is “BRNxxxxxxxxxxxx”.

using the Brother installer application (Not available for MFC-5490CN and MFC-5890CN) k The wizard will search for wireless networks available from your machine. Choose the access point you wish to associate the machine with, and then click Next.
Note
• “SETUP” is the default SSID of the machine. Do not choose this SSID.
• If the list is blank, check that the access point has power and is broadcasting the SSID, and then see if the machine and the access point are within range for wireless communication. Then, click Refresh.
• If your access point is set to not broadcast the SSID you can manually add it by clicking the Add button.
Follow the on-screen instructions for entering the Name (SSID).
4 l If your network is not configured for Authentication and Encryption, the following screen will appear. To
continue configuration, click OK and go to n.

When configuring your Brother wireless machine, you must configure your machine to match the Authentication and Encryption settings of your existing wireless network. Choose the Authentication Method and
Encryption Mode from the pull-down menu in each setting box. Then enter the Network Key and click
Next.

• If you want to setup or configure additional WEP key indexes other than WEP key1, click Advanced.
• If you do not know the Authentication or Encryption settings for your network, contact your network administrator.
• If your wireless settings fail, an error message will appear during the installation of MFL-Pro Suite and the
connection again.
• If you are using WEP and the LCD displayed ‘Connected’ but your machine is not found, make sure you entered the WEP key correctly. The WEP key is case sensitive.
n Click Next. The settings will be sent to your machine. The settings will remain unchanged if you click
Cancel.
Note
• If you want to manually enter the IP address settings of your machine, click Change IP Address and enter the necessary IP address settings for your network.
• The control panel settings will be automatically changed to WLAN when the wireless settings are sent to your machine.

p Check the box after you confirm that you have completed the wireless settings, and then click Finish.

Initial Installation / Install MFL-Pro Suite from the CD-ROM menu.
