Control panel setup
Scan to FTP (For MFC-5890CN and MFC-6490CW)
The details required to use Scan to FTP can be entered manually at the control panel to pre-configure and store the details in an FTP Profile. You can configure up to five FTP server profiles.

Passive Mode
You can set Passive Mode to OFF or ON depending on your FTP server and network firewall configuration.
By default this setting is ON. In most cases this setting can remain as default.
6 a Press Menu.
b Press a or b to choose Network.
Press OK.
c Press a or b to choose Scan to FTP.
Press OK.
d Press a or b to choose Passive Mode.
Press OK.
e Press d or c to choose On or Off.
f Press Stop/Exit.
Port number
You can change the port number used to access the FTP server. The default for this setting is port 21. In most cases this setting can remain as default.

b Press a or b to choose Network.
Press OK.
c Press a or b to choose Scan to FTP.
Press OK.
d Press a or b to choose Port Number.
Press OK.
e Enter the port number.
Press OK.
f Press Stop/Exit.

Creating a user defined File Name
In addition to the seven preset file names you can store two user defined file names that can be used for creating an FTP Server Profile.
a Press Menu.
b Press a or b to choose Network.
Press OK.
c Press a or b to choose Scan to FTP.
Press OK.
d Press a or b to choose File Name1 or File Name2.
Press OK.
e Enter a file name you want to use. A maximum of 15 characters can be entered for each of the user defined names.
Press OK.
f Press Stop/Exit.

Pre-configuring your FTP profiles
a Press Menu.
b Press a or b to choose Network.
Press OK. c Press a or b to choose Scan to FTP.
Press OK. d Press a or b to choose Setup Profile.
Press OK. e Press a or b to choose Not Registered.
Press OK. f Press a or b to choose Profile Name.
Press OK. g Enter the name that you want to use for the profile of the FTP server. This name will be displayed on the
LCD of the machine and can be up to 30 characters.
Press OK.
6 h Press a or b to choose Host Address.
Press OK. i Enter the Host Address (for example ftp.example.com) (up to 60 characters) or the IP address (for example 192.23.56.189).
Press OK.

Press OK. k Enter the destination folder where your document will be stored on the FTP server (for example
/brother/abc/) (up to 60 characters).
Press OK. l Press a or b to choose Username.
Press OK. m Enter the Username that has been registered with the FTP server for the machine (up to 32 characters).
Press OK. n Press a or b to choose Password.
Press OK. o Enter the Password for access to the FTP server (up to 32 characters).
Press OK. p Press a or b to choose Quality.
Press OK. q Press a or b to choose Color 150 dpi, Color 300 dpi, Color 600 dpi, B/W 200x100 dpi or
B/W 200 dpi.
Press OK. r Choose the file type for the document. Press a or b to choose File Type.
Press OK. s Press a or b to choose PDF or JPEG for color or gray scale documents and PDF or TIFF for B/W documents.
Press OK.
Note
For MFC-6490CW
If you are using the scanner glass of the machine, choose the document size.
• Press a or b to choose Glass ScanSize.
• Press d or c to choose Letter, Legal, Ledger, A4, or A3 for US, A4, A3, Letter, Legal or Ledger for UK.
Press OK. t Press a or b to choose Passive Mode.
u Press d or c to choose On or Off.
Press OK. v Press a or b to choose Port Number.
w Enter the port number.
Press OK.

Control panel setup x Choose the file name you want to use for the scanned document. You can choose from seven preset and two user defined File Names. The file name that will be used for your document will be the file name you selected plus the last 6 digits of the flatbed/ADF scanner counter plus the file extension (For example, BRNxxxxxxxxxxxx098765.pdf). You can also manually enter a File Name up to 15 characters.
Press a or b to choose File Name.
Press OK. y Press a or b to choose the file name you want to use.
Press OK. z After you have set all the settings, press a or b to choose Complete.
Press OK.
Press Stop/Exit.
