Safety & Care Advice
This water softener’s control valve conforms to the highest industry standards for materials and structural integrity.
Water2buy™ products are for use with microbiologically safe water.
Read and follow all safety rules and operating instructions before first use of this product. If you have questions
when installing, operating or maintaining your water softener, log on to www.water2buy.com and watch the user
installation video for your product. The approximate time required to install this unit is 3 hours.
Your water softener is heavy take precaution to prevent injury.
Do not exceed 6.89bar (100psi) water pressure.
Do not exceed 40C (104F) water temperature.
Do not subject unit to freezing conditions
Subjecting your unit to these conditions will void the warranty.
Read all steps, guides and rules carefully before installing and using your water softener. Follow all steps exactly
to correctly install. Reading this manual will help you get all the benefits from your water softener. We recommend
that a trained professional install this water softener.
Please follow all local codes for plumbing this unit. Follow local electrical codes. Install a correctly sized electrical
bonding jumper between the inlet and outlet pipes when these devices are installed in metallic plumbing systems.
Inspect this unit carefully for carrier shortage or shipping damage before beginning installation of unit.
This system should not be used for treating water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality. The unit is
designed with the sole purpose of removing hardness.
Use only lead-free solder and flux, as required local codes, when installing soldered copper plumbing. Use caution
when ‘sweat joining’ metal pipes near this water conditioning system. Heat can adversely affect the plastic used in
this system and bypass valve. Use only silicone grease for lubrication of this unit.
Do not allow this water softener to freeze. Damage from freezing will void this water softener’s warranty. Do not
store flammable or volatile chemicals near this water softener.
For the purpose of plumbing system sizing, only the rated service (i.e."Normal") flow and corresponding pressure
loss may be used. The rated service flow rates are the flow rates.
Use at least 3 metres of tubing between the outlet of the water softener and the inlet to the water heater. Water
heaters can overheat to the extent that they can send heat back down the cold pipe into the unit control valve.
Hot water can severely damage the softener. A 3-metre total pipe run, including bends, elbows, and fittings, is a
reasonable distance to help hot water damage. A positive way to prevent hot water from flowing from heat source
to the water softener, in the event of a negative pressure situation, is to install a check valve in the soft water
tubing from the softener. If a check valve is installed, make sure the water-heating unit is equipped with a rated
temperature and pressure safety relief valve. Be sure that local codes are not violated.
Do not locate unit where it or its connections (including the drain and overflow lines) will ever be subjected
o
o
o
o
temperatures less than 1 C (34 F) or greater than 40 C (104 F).
Do not install unit near acid or acid fumes. The use of resin cleaners in an un-vented enclosure is not
recommended
Drain line – Important: If the unit is located more than 6 metres from drain, use 22mm tubing for distances 612metres. Purchase appropriate fitting to connect the 22mm tubing to the 15mm drain connection (v) on the
control valve.
If the unit is located where the drain line must be elevated. You may elevate the line up to 1.8 metres providing the
tubing length does not exceed 4.5 metres and water pressure at softener is not less than 1.bar (14 psi). You may
elevate an additional 60cm for each additional .7bar of water pressure.
Where the drain line is elevated but empties into a drain below the level of the control valve, form a 20cm loop at
the end of the tubing so that the bottom of the loop is level with the drain line connection. This will provide an
adequate siphon trap.
Where the drain empties into an overhead sewer line, a sink trap must be used.

1) Preparation Instructions:
Prior to installing your water softener follow these instructions
A
Add the plumbing fittings
Remove the red fastened
clips.
Apply silicon lube to the orings.
Push the o-rings into the
bypass assembly.
Put back on the red
fasteners.
B
Check the water flow
direction arrows on the
control valve. The flow
direction arrows must
match the direction of
your water flow.
C
Open the bypass valves
(meter models only)
Check both bypass valves
are open.
Use the tool supplied to turn
the red bypass valves fully
clockwise. The valves are
open when both are parallel.
NOTE: Failure to open
these will bypass the
water softener leaving you
with hard water.
[5]
1) Preparation Instructions:
NOTE: A loose seal on
the brine suction hose is
the most common cause
of malfunctioning. Use
an adjustable wrench to
make sure the plastic
nut is airtight.
D
Check brine suction hose
Check that the end of the
brine suction hose is
connected securely inside
the brine tank.
The brine suction pipe on
the inside should be wedged
at the size of the blue
vessel. The flotation buoy
end of the pipe should be on
the bottom of the brine tank.
E
Adjust the mixing valve
The mixing valve should be
turned fully anti-clockwise in
order for your unit to
produce soft water.
F
Switch the overflow to the
outside.
Locate the overflow fitting on
the side of the brine tank.
Your overflow fitting will
need to be switched to the
outside as shown, as it is
turned inside during
transport.
[6]
2) Installing Your Water Softener:
We recommend watching the videos on www.water2buy.com
A
Decide on where you want
to locate your water
softener, usually a water
softener is located where the
mains water enters your
home. Typical locations
include; under the kitchen
sink, basement, garage or
pump-house. You will need
to locate near a power
source and drainage.
B
Turn off the mains water to
your home before
proceeding.
Cut the incoming water
mains pipe before any
branches of the mains water
pipe to ensure the whole
house has softened water.
IMPORTANT: Make sure
the cut is taken before the
tee piece for the pipe going
to the water storage tank.
C
Install an elbow joint on your
mains water pipe at both
ends of the cut.
Your local plumbing
regulations may require you
to install a ‘Non-return’ valve
on your mains water pipe.
[7]
2) Installing Your Water Softener:
D
Connect the mains water
pipe to the water inlet on the
control valve.
It’s important that you
check the water
directional flow
arrows on your unit.
E
Drill a 15mm hole through
the outside wall for a waste
pipe.
Drill another 15mm hole
through the outside wall for
the overflow pipe.
F
Locate the waste fitting on
the control valve.
Using 15mm tubing, connect
the waste fitting on the
control valve to a suitable
drain outside the building.
[8]
2) Installing Your Water Softener:
G
The waste pipe should not
be connected directly to the
drain; a 15mm air gap
should be left between the
waste pipe and the drain.
The overflow and the waste
pipe should not be joined
together.
H
Fill the tank with water
softener salt. Salt levels
need to be maintained at
approximately 100mm above
the bottom of the tank and
50mm from the top of the
tank.
Add 3-4 litres of water into
the tank on top of the salt.
I
Turn back on the mains
water.
Plug-in your water2buy
water softener.
Proceed with configuring the
settings on your unit. Refer
to your product manual for
guidance.
Check for leaks. We recommend regular checks for leaks for the first 24 hours after install.
IMPORTANT: Check for leaks at all joints and connections after turning on the mains
water. After 3 hours check for leaks at all joints and connections.
We recommend a further check after 24 hours.

5) Water Softener Troubleshooting: www.water2buy.com
WHAT KIND OF SALT IS BEST?
All Water2buy TM water softeners are designed to use any water softeners salt of good quality, including “rock,” “pellet,”
“solar,” or “evaporated” types. All rock salt, regardless of source, contains insoluble material, which collects at the bottom
of the salt storage tank and requires periodic clean out.
If purified salt products are used, the salt storage compartment will require less frequent clean out, but you must check
more frequently to prevent a “bridging” problem.
HOW CAN I START A MANUAL
REGENERATION CYCLE?
Do not run a manual backwash immediately before, after or
during an automatic backwash. Make sure the backwash
knob is at the ‘SERV’ position before beginning. Make sure
the backwash knob returns to the ‘SERV’ position when the
cycle is complete.
You can start a manual regeneration by turning the
manual backwash knob clockwise to the first position.
The process will take approximately 1 hour.
HOW MUCH SALT SHOULD I PUT INTO THE BRINE TANK?
Salt levels need to be maintained at approximately 100mm above the bottom of the tank and 50mm from the top of
the tank.
CAN I ADJUST THE SALT REFILL ON THE TIMER-CONTROLLED UNIT?
The salt refill is preset for you. Should you need to adjust, you will need to unscrew the back plate on the control
valve.
Refill volume can be adjusted through refill regulator (2).
To adjust the refill volume, release the screw (1) by a half turn, and then turn the Refill Regulator to the correct
volume to ‘2’. Finally tighten the screw (1).
[15]
5) Water Softener Troubleshooting: www.water2buy.com
I’M GETTING HARD WATER WHAT SHOULD I DO?
If you unexpectedly experience hard water, make these simple checks before calling Water2buy.
RUN MANUAL REGENERATION
See "HOW CAN I START A MANUAL
REGENERATION CYCLE?"
POWER SUPPLY
Check your power supply cable. Check that is plugged fully into the electric outlet. Be sure that the power outlet is
switched on. Reset softener to proper time of day and then plug in.
BLOWN FUSE
Check the house fuse or circuit breaker panel. Replace a blown-out fuse or reset an open circuit breaker. Consult a
registered electrician when dealing with any electrical
POWER FAILURE
Any interruption in your power supply, or time changes, such as daylight savings, will disrupt your softener’s
recharge schedule by causing the timer to run off schedule. Reset time to the correct time of day.
SALT SUPPLY
Check it. Refill if necessary and wait approximately four hours for the salt to dissolve before initiating a recharge
cycle.
INCREASED USAGE
Guests, family additions, new water-using appliances, etc. all will result in more water usage and will require more
capacity from your softener. You can reprogram your recharging schedule by following the directions on adjustments
for your softener in this manual.
NO WATER
If you aren’t getting any water flow at all, make sure your water supply is working. Open a tap ahead of the softener
(outside tap) to see if you have any water pressure.
CONTINUOUS FLOW TO DRAIN
If water runs to drain continuously. Check to make sure unit is not in regeneration. If it is regenerating, allow unit to
finish cycle, and then reset time of day if necessary.
SALT BRIDGING
Salt “bridging” occurs when a gap has formed between the salt and the water preventing the salt from dissolving in
the water to make brine. No brine = no soft water. High humidity and/or use of some brands of purified salt products
may cause a salt bridge to form.
The best way to check and eliminate a salt bridging problem is to take a brush handle then carefully begin to probe
down through the salt with the handle. Continue to probe and break up the bridge.
MIXING VALVE
If your unit has an optional mixing valve installed you need to turn it fully anti-clockwise hand tight. Marked A in
diagram.
[16]
5) Water Softener Troubleshooting: www.water2buy.com
THE BRINE TANK IS OVERFLOWING WAHT SHOULD I DO?
TIGHTEN THE BRINE SUCTION HOSE CONNECTION
Tighten the plastic nut (B) and brass nut (A) make sure the seal on both is airtight.
TIGHTEN THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE CONTROL VALVE AND VESSEL
This is the threaded joint (C) in picture above where the control valve joins onto the brine tank. Hold the vessel
steady inside the tank and twist the control valve tight.
CLEAN THE INJECTORS
Unplug the control valve.
Turn the bypass valves fully anticlockwise into bypass position (perpendicular).
Using a screwdriver, remove injector screen and injector cap (A)
Use a screwdriver to unscrew the outer injector (B).
Insert the screwdriver and unscrew the inner injector (C).
Tilt the unit to remove the inner injector. Caution the unit may be heavy, seek assistance.
Remove the screen gauze.
Clean screen gauze using a fine brush.
Flush the gauze with water until clean.
Flush water into the injector recess of the valve to flush out debris.
Clean the injector with a pin or paperclip.
Lubricate the O-rings on the injector. Lubricate the injector cap and lubricate the injector screen with silicone
lubricant.
Reinstall the injector, injector cap and injector screen. Do not over-tighten the plastic cap. Seat the cap lightly into
position. Over tightening may cause breakage of the plastic cap that may not be immediately evident.
Plug in the control valve power.
Follow the setup and configuration process for your unit.
Slowly turn the bypass valves clockwise to open.
[17]
5) Water Softener Troubleshooting: www.water2buy.com
SERVICE OF YOUR WATER SOFTENER
We recommend watching the videos on www.water2buy.com
Following these simple steps will ensure continued trouble free service, and will keep your water softener looking like new
for years.
Do not place heavy objects on top of the salt storage tank or case.
Use only mild soap and warm water when cleaning the exterior of the softener. Never use harsh, abrasive cleaning
compounds or those, which contain acid, such as vinegar, bleach and similar products.
WARNING: Protect your water softener and the entire drain line from freezing temperatures.
DANGER: If your unit should freeze, do not attempt to disassemble it. Contact Water2buy.com
The timer is very accurate. Keep setting correct to assure recharging at the proper time.
A periodic clean out of the Salt Storage Tank is necessary to keep your Water2buy Water Softener at peak operating
efficiency. Do it at least every 2 years when the salt supply is low. Follow these step-by-step procedures:
Remove the salt storage tank cover and the cap from the brine valve chamber.
If you’d like to save any clean, dry salt remaining in the tank, remove it and place it in a clean container.
Using a scoop, dig out and discard as much remaining salt, water and debris as possible.
Lay the salt tank on its side and direct a brisk stream of water from your garden hose to its inside to rinse out all residue.
Using a household scrub brush and a mild soapy solution, clean the salt plate. This will complete the tank cleaning.
Fill the salt storage tank with 10-15cm of water.
Fill the tank with salt to within a few cm’s from the top.
The technology upon which the control valve is based is well established and proven in service over many years.
