8.3 Shadow stop

Whenever this is required, all ENERCON wind energy turbines can be fitted with the control system for the shadow stop feature. This can be necessary when the turbines are located in the direct vicinity of buildings.

The basis for the shadow stop function is provided by calculated times in which shadow formation can occur as a result of the angle of the sun and the geographical position of the turbine, and which can consequently lead to irritation for people living or working near the turbine. These times are entered in the control system. If the shadow of the rotor reaches a certain building and/or point on the ground, the turbine can be stopped until the shadow has moved away from the building or the point.

Parallel to the pre-set times, a light sensor determines the light intensity and recognises whether a shadow is cast. Only if the brightness during these times exceeds the pre-set value is the shadow shutdown function activated.

You can operate the shadow stop function using the LC display (see section

5.3.7).
