Viewing Drawing Details

Sometimes it is helpful to compose a drawing with multiple scales. The Detail

View command allows you to define and place a rectangular area on the page in which the detail of a previously saved view appears. In an architectural floorplan, for example, you might want the details of a particular office to appear in the drawing. Just zoom to the area of the drawing you want to include as a detail view. When the size of the view is satisfactory, save it with a unique name. Once you’ve saved the view you can incorporate it into the drawing as a detail view in one of two ways. You can either draw a rectangle in which the view of the detail is automatically scaled, or you can place a rectangle and specify the scale.

For more information on zooming and creating a custom view see “Zooming

In and Out” on page 90, and “Saving and Recalling Views” on page 94.

4 On the Custom View drop-down list on the edit bar, click the previously saved view.

5 Click the point that defines one corner of the rectangle. A rubber-band rectangle appears and follows the pointer.

6 Click the point that defines the opposite corner to draw the rectangle in which the detail view appears.

7 Right-click to complete the detail view.

8 (optional) To view the details with a transparent background, click the

Transparent check box on the edit bar. The detail view will assume the background color of whatever is behind it.

9 (optional) To change the scale of the detail view to a fixed scale, click the

Fixed Scale check box on the edit bar. The fixed scale will only change the scale of the detail view, the size of the rectangle will not change.
