Working With Text

Many drawings use text as a means of providing labels, explanations, or specifications for portions of the drawing. AutoSketch makes placing text in your drawing—whether it is a word, phrase, or several paragraphs—easy, accurate, and powerful.

AutoSketch’s rich text capabilities allow you to apply formatting, such as bold or italics, to any or all characters within a text string. That means you can use the Text Editor to select specific words (instead of entire text entities) for formatting, font changes, or resizing. AutoSketch even allows you to place entire paragraphs in a drawing using the text wrapping feature.

You can create and edit AutoSketch text using the Text Editor dialog box or you can do inplace editing directly in the drawing. The inplace editor provides a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) interface that allows you to see your text rendered directly into the drawing as you type. The Text Editor dialog box provides a blank workspace for you to compose and edit your text before placing it in the drawing. AutoSketch allows you to choose the editing mode that you prefer and thereafter defaults to the last edit mode used.

AutoSketch does not consider text to represent real objects in the drawing.

Instead, it views text as annotation to the drawing (similar to markers, dimensions, and hatch patterns). Therefore, AutoSketch scales text and other annotation entities at output size. If you enter text that is .25" high, it prints as .25" high, regardless of the current drawing scale. This is consistent with most drafting standards, which specify text size in terms of printed output.

Three geometric properties define a text entity in AutoSketch: basepoint, angle, and character height. You can change the geometric properties of a text entity by changing the corresponding settings on the edit bar.
