17.4 General Specifications

See

Section 2.2

for power/current specifications, and Section 2.4.1

for dimension/weight specifications.

17.5 Mounting Requirements

The GPS 20A will mount remotely. The GPS 20A will be secured to the airframe using four screws supplied by the installer. Refer to

Section 17.9

for outline and installation drawings.

17.6 Unit Installation

Fabrication of a wiring harness is required. Sound mechanical and electrical methods and practices are

recommended for installation of the GPS 20A. Refer to Section 2.3

for wiring considerations, and to

Section 26.12

for pinouts.

1. Mount the unit to a suitable mounting location using (4) #10-32 pan or hex head screws.

2. Assemble the connector backshells and wiring harness.

3. Connect CAN terminator to unit if required (

Section 2.3.1.3.3

).

4. Connect backshell connectors.

17.7 Antennas

The GPS 20A requires the installation and use of a GA 35, GA 36, GA 37. Refer to Section 23 for antenna

information.

17.8 Antenna Cable Requirements

Cable loss from the GPS/SBAS antenna should be between 1.5 dB and 6.5 dB in order to maintain proper rejection to interference signals.

Coaxial connectors and adapters, such as TNC to BNC, add additional loss to the cable and should be considered when computing the cable loss. A typical loss of 0.2 dB can be used for each connection.

For RG-142B or RG-400, 1.5 dB equates to a length of approximately 6.5 feet of cable with a connector on each end.

For installations that require less than 6.5 ft of cable, the cable may be coiled, taking into account the minimum bend radius of the cable.
