4 The TG234 wireless access point
4 The TG234 wireless access point
Introduction
This chapter describes how to establish a wireless connection with your TG234.
The 5 GHz video bridge
The TG234 will set up your wireless connection using IEEE 802.11ac wireless 5 GHz.
The 5 GHz band regulations allow higher output power compared to the 2.4GHz band which is currently still the most popular frequency band for WLAN networks. The high power solution allows you to take full advantage of the 5 GHz band which translates into better performance making it a reliable carrier for video streams.
Furthermore, its scalable architecture guarantees a very low packet error rate on the wireless link for seamless high-speed wireless HD video streaming inside the home.
Setting up your wireless network
For more information on how to establish a wireless connection with the TG234, see
“4.1 Connecting via WPS” on page 37
or
“4.3 Connecting manually without WPS” on page 42
.
Keep your wireless connection secure!
When using an unsecured connection:
Everyone who is within the range of your TG234 can access your network.
People may use your connection to access the Internet.
Hackers may use your connection to commit computer crimes.
By default, the TG234 is uses a secure wireless connection. We recommend you not to change these settings. If needed, you
can change the default wireless key that is used to secure your connection. For more information, see
“4.4 Securing your wireless connection” on page 43
.

4.1 Connecting via WPS
WPS
Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) allows you to add new wireless clients to your local network in a swift and easy way.
Requirements
The wireless 5 GHz access point, or wireless 5 GHz client must support WPS, and the applicable WPS service (WPS PBC and/or WPS PIN) must be enabled. Check the documentation of your device for this.
If your gateway does not support WPS, see
“4.3 Connecting manually without WPS” on page 42
to set up your wireless
connection.
Procedure
For each device that you want to connect, proceed as follows:
1 Shortly press the WPS button on the TG234:
WPS
- or -
Start WPS on the TG234 GUI page.
See
“4.2 Starting WPS on the TG234 GUI” on page 39
for details.
2 The WPS button LED starts blinking orange slowly. This indicates that the TG234 is now searching for wireless networks that are in WPS registration mode.
3 Start WPS on the other device (for example, another TG234, a 5 GHz wireless gateway, a computer,...) of the wireless connection.
Consult the documentation of your gateway or device to find how to start WPS.
Once that you finished step 2, you have two minutes to finish step 3. Or you may need to repeat step 2 and 3 again.
4 The devices are now exchanging the wireless settings.
5 At the end of the procedure, the status of the WPS LED will change to one of the following:
Solid green
This indicates that you have successfully set up a connection.
Blinking orange
This indicates that each end of the wireless connection could not find each other. Use the same procedure to try again
(you do not need to wait until the LED turns off).
Blinking red
This indicates that an error occurred.
