You can determine if other users can tell whether you are available or not.
From the IM online menu, select Availability and one of the following:
Available—Others see your status as online and you receive availability information and messages from others.
Do not disturb—Although others see your status as online, you do not receive availability information and messages from others.
Appear offline—Although others see your status as offline, you receive availability information and messages from others.
• INSTANT MESSAGES
You can send instant messages to anyone if you have the person’s user name. You can also add that person to your contact list during an instant messaging session.
See “Add a new contact from the inbox” on page 106 for instructions.
Write and send instant messages

From the IM online menu, select My contacts > Write message.
The User ID screen appears.

Enter the user name of the person to whom you want to send an instant message.

Select Options > OK.
The Conversation view appears with the contact’s name at the top.

Select Options > Write message and enter a message.
Note: Predictive text input is automatically enabled for writing messages.
See “Predictive text input” on page 21 for information on using predictive text.

Select Options > Send.
Receive and reply to instant messages
When you receive an instant message, a screen appears, showing you have a new instant message with the name of the sender.

Select Open > Options > Write message and enter a message.

Select Options > Send.
• CHAT SESSIONS
If you want to chat with a person, you must first add that person to the contact list. See “Add a new contact to the contact list” on page 106 for instructions.

Chat session from the contact list view

From the IM online menu, select My contacts.

Select the contact with whom you want to chat; then select Chat.
The conversation view appears with the contact’s name at the top.

Select Options > Write message and enter a message.

Select Options > Send.
The conversation view appears with your user name and message displaying.

After your contact replies, repeat steps 3-4 to continue your chat session.
Chat session from the inbox view
You can only initiate a chat session from this view, if an active chat is open or has been saved. See “Save chat history” on page 105 for information on saving chat sessions.

From the IM online menu, select Inbox.

Scroll to the contact with whom you want to chat.

Select Options > Open > Options > Write message and enter a message.

Select Options > Send.
The conversation view appears with your user name and most recent message displaying.

After your contact replies, repeat steps 4-5 to continue your chat session.
Quit chat session
From the conversation view, select Back > Options > End convers.
Conversation ended appears.
Save chat history

From the conversation view, select Options > Save.
The Conversation name screen appears.

Enter the name you want to use for the conversation and select Options > Save.
Conversation saved appears.
View chat history
From the IM offline menu, select Saved convers. and the chat history you want to view.
Rename chat history

From the IM offline menu, select Saved convers. and the chat history you want to rename.
