An unqualified CCHR command displays each CCHR setting. INFO prompts you for a response after each
CCHR setting is displayed.
n
INFO displays the CCHR settings in decimal form (octal on Prime), which represents the ASCII code values for the settings.
UNIX only
When INFO is installed, the default character settings are :
KEEP
CLEAR
TAB
= Dec 01
= Dec 02
= Dec 09
BACKTAB = \ 92
TRUNCATION = ! 33
(Ctrl-A)
(Ctrl-B)
(TAB key)

The CCHR settings are named for their default ASCII control character values. These settings are used during
INPUT FORM, ALTER, ADD and UPDATE processing as described below.
n
<KEEP>, or setting, is used during execution of INPUT
FORM and ALTER.
For INPUT FORM, it is used to skip (to move the terminal screen cursor) to the end of the form without changing any remaining field values.
For ALTER, it is used to accept the current values for all remaining record item characteristics and return to ENTER
COMMAND > level.
n
<CLEAR>, or setting, is used with the INPUT FORM command to skip to the end of the form while filling all remaining fields with appropriate null values (blanks or zeros).

CCHR
n
<TAB> is used with the INPUT FORM command to skip ahead one field without changing the value of the current input field.
n
<BACKTAB>, or backslash character (\), is used with the
INPUT FORM, ADD and UPDATE commands.
For INPUT FORM, it is used to skip back one field without changing the value of the current field.
For ADD and UPDATE, it is used when INFO prompts for individual items to display the value of the previous item, with a prompt for you to re-enter a value. This allows you to change the last value entered. Once you re-enter the changed value, INFO again prompts for the next item.
n
<TRUNCATION> is used in specifying “wild-carded” word items in word expressions. (INFO-Text only).
You can process the CCHR command in one of three ways: n
Enter only the command CCHR with no control characters.
INFO displays the current <KEEP> setting and waits for you to respond. If you press <RETURN>, INFO leaves the current setting unchanged; if you enter any other character, INFO changes the current setting to the specified character. INFO then displays the current setting of the <CLEAR> control character and again waits for a
<RETURN> or replacement character. INFO proceeds in this way for the <TAB> , <BACKTAB> and
<TRUNCATION> control settings, and then returns you to
ENTER COMMAND > level.
n
Enter the command CCHR followed by the character values which correspond to the settings you wish to change. Separate setting characters with commas. To skip over one of the character values — that is, to leave it unchanged — enter an extra comma to correspond to the position of the character. For example, to leave only the
TAB character unchanged, you might enter CCHR X,Y,,Z.
After you enter the CCHR command, INFO displays the new settings.

CCHR example
n
Enter the command CCHR followed by four commas.
INFO displays the current values of all four settings.
Note: When changing the CCHR settings, under Unix and
VMS you may enter either the character itself or its decimal value. On PRIME, you must enter the character itself.
A CCHR command dialog in which you change CCHR settings might look like this:
ENTER COMMAND >CCHR
