notes discussion
n
The COMOUTPUT command may function differently on different computer systems. For this reason, be careful when using it in applications that might be moved to another manufacturer's computer. For instance, on the
Prime, the response to any system command issued from within INFO (with SPAWN or
•
) is written to the como file, but not on UNIX or VMS. Also, the dash (-) in front of
END is obligatory on Prime, but optional on UNIX or VMS.
n
Make sure you close your COMOUTPUT file; otherwise, the file becomes large very quickly. The file remains open until you issue a COMOUTPUT -END command, you issue a COMOUTPUT command specifying another file, or you exit INFO (except on Prime).
You can use the COMOUTPUT command to open, and at some later time to close, an ASCII text file in which INFO records everything that is displayed at your terminal during your INFO session. This COMOUTPUT file receives a copy of all prompts, responses and other messages that are displayed at your terminal, whether they originate from interactive usage of INFO or from execution of INFO programs.
Note that all INFO prompts and all your responses processed while using a COMINPUT file are displayed at the terminal and, therefore, recorded in the COMOUTPUT file.
INFO Reference Manual Commands 97
COMOUTPUT
COMOUTPUT operates independently of the commands
COMINPUT, OUTPUT, LOG and SPOOL. While the displays associated with these commands are logged to the COMOUTPUT file, the data these commands generate is routed as usual.
If you issue a second COMOUTPUT command specifying a second COMOUTPUT file, INFO terminates logging to the first COMOUTPUT file before logging to the second
COMOUTPUT file. If the first and second COMOUTPUT files are the same file, or if a second COMOUTPUT file specified already exists, INFO overwrites the existing file.
INFO never appends information to a COMOUTPUT file.
