runs the system editor specified in external variable .INFOEDIT for
VMS/PRIME or _INFOEDIT for UNIX with command line options set by .INFOEXT for VMS/PRIME or _INFOEXT for UNIX.
arguments
IF_name | PG_name | RP_name | SF_name the INFO file to be changed
SYSTEM indicates that the specified file is a SYSTEM file.
[PRINT] sends a copy of the non-datafile to your spool file after you make any changes to it. If you include the PRINT option for a SYSTEM file, INFO assumes that all the data in the file is printable; it does not perform any data conversion before printing.
[LINE] edits an INFO program with the source line numbers intact.
notes
n
The option PRINT behaves differently with CHANGE. With
CHANGE the PROGRAM is written to the SPOOL file only at start up time, meaning amendments made do not reflect to the SPOOL file. EDIT writes to the SPOOL file at the end of your editing session whether it has been amended or not.
n
When editing an INFO report, the current number of column headers and the report width will be displayed, and you will be asked if these are to be changed or retained.
The title lines are displayed with a (TITLE) prefix and any new titles should be input in the same format. On leaving the editor, if you quit or file with no changes, you will be asked if you wish to apply your title or column changes.

EDIT examples
n
When editing an INFO special form, the current number of lines per page and columns per line are displayed, and you are asked if these are to be changed or retained. On leaving the editor, if you quit or file with no changes, you will be asked if you wish to apply your line and column changes.
n
With EDIT you can use your choice of editor or wordprocessor; the default is the SYSTEM editor.
n
If you wish to change EDIT to use another editor, simply change the logical/global variable .INFOEDIT or environment variable _INFOEDIT to the name of the editor. If your editor has any command line options, then set the logical/global variable .INFOEXT or environment variable _INFOEXT to the command line options you usually use with the editor.
n
Quitting from the editor will not decode the program, input form, etc. Only writing the file will decode it, thereby requiring a compilation when it is next executed.
For INFO utility command:
ENTER COMMAND >GVSET '._INFOEDIT' 'EMACS'
ENTER COMMAND >GVSET '._INFOEXT' '-W-TERM ANSI'
For SYSTEM:
OK,SET_VAR. _INFOEDIT:= EMACS
OK,SET_VAR. _INFOEXT:= -W-TERM ANSI
