strips a character field of any characters not appearing in a given set.

item-2 the target character_item

item-3 Set of valid characters:character_item

In effect STRIP is MOVE with stripping, and therefore mimics MOVE used interactively and in odd/even program sections.

n item-1 and item-2 can be the same item.
