item-1 A-type item to be read
item-2 Character item to receive the line of text. The item should be wide enough to receive the whole line or text will be lost
item-3 Numeric item to receive the return code:-
1 Text item file not successfully opened
0 O.K
-1 End of file detected.
This command enables the user to achieve controlled output of text items by setting lines of text one at a time into a character variable. The line can then be transferred to a Forms Control form, or DISPLAYed or PRINTed as required. The end of the text item file is detected by the command so that the user can insert page throws etc.
when needed.
The command does not allow reformatting of the text into shorter lines and if this is attempted line ends will be lost.
If TXGET is not repeatedly called until all the text in an item has been read then TXCLOSE must be used to close the text item file before continuing with the program.
