Appendix V
Terminal Drivers
To change a terminal type within an INFO session, use the INFO command
TERM: an unqualified TERM command displays the current setting. To change the setting, simply type TERM terminal_type : a list of valid terminal types may be displayed by typing in an invalid type, such as TERM BOBO.
To change the terminal type for all INFO users, you need to attach to the
_INFOSYS directory and invoke INFO with the username re9 : any change you make to the terminal type in here will be reflected to all INFO users, unless they have their own local setting. It is also possible to define your own termial driver for use within INFO: in the re9 username in the _INFOSYS directory there is a program called P.NT, and running this will prompt you for details of the terminal, such as screen clear.
UNIX only
If you invoke INFO without the –n option, INFO will use the UNIX curses terminal handler; it will take the value of the UNIX environment variable TERM.
If you invoke INFO with the –n option, INFO will use its own terminal drivers for terminal handling. The default terminal type shipped is ANSI but this may be changed, either for an INFO session or system-wide.
If you are running INFO on a workstation X11 terminal, you would probably wish to use the curses library for terminal handling. If you are running INFO from an ANSI or VT100 compatible terminal, you may prefer to use the INFO terminal handling mode.
