Information on the operating instructions
1 Information on the operating instructions
These operating instructions apply to the MST9 application tool only.
Please read these instructions carefully and ensure that they are
understood by any persons using the tool.
Within this document you will find images illustrating best practice
guidelines for operating and maintaining the MST9 application tool, along
with contact details for your local HellermannTyton country representative.
2 Intended use
The MST9 tool is intended for the application of MST-M series metal ties.
The tool is not suitable for use with alternative cable ties (e.g. plastic) and
must also not be modified or interfered with by any user.
We are not liable for any damage and claims arising from the improper
operation or use of the cable tie installation tool, nor are we responsible
for any damages caused by defects resulting from inappropriate or
unsuitable use of the tool, incorrect or careless treatment, normal wear
and tear as well as any modifications made to the tool by the customer of
a third party.
The warranty/repair by HellermannTyton does not include the rectification
of faults that results from force majeure, external influences, customer
neglect (e.g. modifications or attachments, application errors etc.) or the
influence of third parties. The replacement of worn parts or spare parts
during or after maintenance work carried out according to
HellermannTyton instructions is also not included.
The application tool must only be operated when in a technically sound
condition.
3 Representation and layout of warning instructions
The hazard level with the associated warning symbol and explanation are
illustrated below.

4 Initial operation
The application tool can be used immediately.
ff Take the application tool out of the packaging and check it for damage.
If damaged, inform the supplier in writing immediately.

CAUTION
IT
There is a risk of injury when pulling the trigger and tightening the tie, or when
using unsuitable ties.
ff Always wear safety glasses during use.

ff When pulling the trigger, make sure that no limbs are between the trigger
and handle.
ff When working above head level, attach a safety cord to the hanging loop at
the bottom of the handle.

ff If necessary, attach a safety cord to the hanging loop 1 (Figure A ).
ff Set the desired tension force (see section „Setting the tension force“).
ff Tighten the tie by hand. Make sure that the marking TCA J 2 (Figure C ) is
facing up. MST-M series ties have a red mark 1 (Figure C ) printed on the
surface.
ff Insert the tie into the insertion slot as shown in Figure D .
ff Make sure that the head of the metal tie 2 (Figure E ) is positioned
correctly within the insertion slot 1 (Figure E ).
ff Figure F1 shows the correct position of the head. If the upper part of the
head is not flush with the surface of the insertion slot, the position is not
correct (Figure F2 ).
ff Keep pulling the trigger 4 (Figure A ) until the tension is released.

Setting the tension force
NOTICE
When tightening the metal tie, be careful not to let the head of the tie slip off
or slide out of the tool’s insertion slot.
Please note that if you do not squeeze the trigger firmly enough, the tightening
and cutting processes will not be completed properly.
ff After the tension has been released, squeeze the trigger hard to cut off
the end of the metal tie.
NOTICE
After the metal tie has been cut off, the head of the tie should still be in the
tool’s insertion slot.
If the head has slipped out of the slot, the punching process will not have been
completed properly.
ff When removing the tool, slide it down, away from the head of the metal
tie as shown in Figure G .
ff There should be an imprint in the center of the metal tie head (Figure G ) if
the punching process has been successfully completed.
7 Setting the tension force
The tension force that the application tool uses to tension the ties can be
set via the adjustment dial 2 (Figure B ).

The tension force is selected in N (Newton) using the tension force scale.

ff Adjust the tension by rotating the adjustment dial 2 (Figure B ) until the
tension indicator 1 (Figure B ) is aligned with the required tension setting
on the tension force scale.
The tension forces specified are only general reference values. Due to the
diversity of possible influences during processing and use, we recommend
to check the tension cut-off forces with a conventional force meter.

The application tool is largely maintenance-free.

The application tool can be damaged when opening the housing, making
changes to the components or if repairs are carried out incorrectly.

ff Tool only to be repaired by authorised personnel.

Repair work must only be carried out by the manufacturer or persons
authorised by the manufacturer. This also includes opening the application
tool and changing components or functions.

The blade should always be changed when the tie can no longer be
cut-off neatly or easily.

Unscrew the blade holder screws 1 (Figure H ).
Remove the blade holder 2 (Figure H ).
Remove the blade 3 (Figure H ) carefully.
If necessary, replace the punch 5 (Figure H ) by removing the pin 4
(Figure H ).
ff Insert a new and undamaged blade of the same size and design (see
section „Spare parts and accessories“). Observe the correct installation
direction.
ff Replace the blade holder 2 (Figure H ).
ff Tighten the screw of the blade holder 1 (Figure H ).

When used for its intended purpose, the application tool can be used
without time limit. In case of disposal, the application tool must be
disposed of correctly in accordance with the country-specific disposal
guidelines.

11 Spare parts and accessories
NOTICE
The use of spare parts and accessories not approved by the manufacturer may
lead to damage of the application tool.
ff Use only approved spare parts and accessories otherwise warranty claims
shall be rendered void.
Spare parts and accessories can be procured directly from the respective
HellermannTyton country representative.

ff Hold presset på avtrekkeren 4 (figur A ) til spenningen blir frigjort.
