8.5 LUBRICATION

CAUTION

To avoid personal injury, before servicing header or opening drive covers, follow procedures in Section 8.1 PREPARATION

FOR SERVICING.

Refer to Section 8.3.4 Recommended Fluids and

Lubricants for recommended greases.

G e. To achieve a snug fit between the aft end of the shield and header frame, loosen bolts (F), and adjust the latch (G) to re-position the shield. f. Tighten bolts (F).

SAMPLE GREASE DECAL

The greasing points are marked on the machine by decals showing a grease gun (A), and grease interval (B) in hours of operation.

Log hours of operation, and use the

"Maintenance Checklist" provided to keep a record of scheduled maintenance.

Refer to Section 8.11 MAINTENANCE

SCHEDULE. a. Wipe grease fitting with a clean cloth before greasing, to avoid injecting dirt and grit. b. Inject grease through fitting with grease gun until grease overflows fitting, except where noted. c. Leave excess grease on fitting to keep out dirt. d. Replace any loose or broken fittings immediately. e. If fitting will not take grease, remove and clean thoroughly. Also clean lubricant passageway.

Replace fitting if necessary.

Refer to the illustrations on the following pages to identify the various locations that require lubrication.

DIFFICULT OR IF U-JOINT STOPS TAKING GREASE.

OVER-GREASING WILL DAMAGE U-JOINT. 6 - 8 PUMPS ARE

SUFFICIENT AT FIRST GREASE (FACTORY). DECREASE

GREASE INTERVAL AS U-JOINT WEARS AND REQUIRES

MORE THAN 6 PUMPS.

NOTE

To prevent binding and/or excessive wear caused by sickle pressing on guards, do not over- grease. If more than 6 to 8 pumps of the grease gun are required to fill the cavity, replace the seal in the sickle head.

NOTE

Check for signs of excessive heating on first few guards after greasing. If required, relieve pressure by depressing checkball in grease fitting.
