Excessive Breakage Of

Sickle Sections Or Guards.

Sickle hold-downs not adjusted properly.

Cutterbar operating too low in stony conditions.

Float is set too heavy.

Adjust hold-downs.

Raise cutterbar, using skid shoes.

Adjust float springs for lighter float.

Bent or broken guard.

Header angle too steep.

Straighten or replace.

Flatten header angle.

Reduce reel speed.

Raise reel.

Reduce cam setting.

Excessive slack in reel drive chain.

Tighten chain.

SYMPTOM PROBLEM SOLUTION

Reel Motion Is Uneven Or

Stalls In Heavy Crop.

Reel speed too fast.

Reel fingers not aggressive enough.

Reel too low.

Relief valve on windrower has low relief pressure setting.

Reduce reel speed.

Move to a more aggressive finger pitch notch.

Raise reel.

Increase relief pressure to manufacturer’s recommendations.

Low oil reservoir level on windrower. (NOTE: Sometimes more than one reservoir.)

Relief valve malfunction.

Cutting tough crops with highspeed (19 tooth) reel drive sprocket.

Fill to proper level.

Replace relief valve.

Replace with high torque (10 tooth) or 14 tooth reel drive sprocket.

Plastic Fingers Cut At Tip.

Insufficient reel to cutterbar clearance.

Increase clearance.

Raise header.

Decrease header tilt.

Reel digging into ground with reel speed faster than ground speed.

Plastic Fingers Bent Close to

Tine Tube.

Excessive plugging at cutterbar with wads of crop accumulating at cutterbar while maintaining reel operation.

Correct plugging/cutting issues.

Stop reel before plugging becomes excessive.
